This is the best quality recording I've ever heard of Jussi.
He had, not the strongest, not the most powerful, but the most beautiful voices ever heard.
His voice was powerful and strong enough to fill the old Metropolitan Opera house and I was in standing room at the top. Amazing singer!
Ive never heard Jussi have trouble with high notes, or strain or push. He could sing anything.

I never before heard Jussi Bjourling sing Cavalleria. He was truly an artist. He brought everything to his performance, including the most effortlessly beautiful tenor voice.

(Kill Bill 2) I own the Bjorling,Milanov,Merrill vinyl with Cavalleria and Pagliacci; actually I grew up with it, my father played it regularly. So, I probably have a bias; however, in keeping with the quote (above), I don't think I've ever heard a less than wonderful Bjorling recording. Thanks for posting this one.

In opera It doesent handle only about strong voice its handle about beaty of the voice and sang tecnic and performance also .

Thank you, very belatedly, Ingrid - I am sometimes so busy, I don't get around to my subscriptions - somehow I missed this. I love Bjoerling in this role - I have a recording of him with Milnov. One can never hear enough of his beautiful voice. In this recording, the quality is very superior to mine - I will try to upload mine after my next concert - at the end of April. Jussi captured me with song in 1958 and he has been my favorite tenor ever since. MY vinal recording of this opera and Pagliacci is very fine but I believe this particular recording actually surpasses the one I have. Wow!!!!! I'd sure like to get the whole opera. Is it available anywhere?
This is the 1958 recording. Maybe yours is just worn out.

Se dice que el gran Jussi Björling, había perdido cualidades vocales al final de su carrera.
That was wonderful singing, but... but... but... did he sound like a peasant? No. His tone is definitely patrician: all those Swedish, silvery overtones. He doesn't sound like a villager who's got out of his depth. The singing is tremendous (and I love the full recording, but I have to suspend belief a bit more than usual with Jussi in the role of peasant).
Gigli (amongst many others) managed to sound like the village idiot more convincingly (for some reason, see also Nemorino), and there have been many others who didn't have Jussi's stunning voice but who were more plausible in the role.
I'm probably talking out of the wrong end of my alimentary tract, but that's how I see it: wonderful, wonderful singing but not really what the opera needs.
