  • The new Lotus Emira now has AMG power from the lunatic M139 4-cylinder engine from the Mercedes-AMG A45. The 2.0 litre turbocharged engine is twined with AMG's eight-speed DCT gearbox with paddle change.
I was surprised how great the 4-cylinder sounded and the responsiveness of the paddle gearshift. This is in no way the lesser experience compared to the 3.5 Litre supercharged V6, its just a different experience. Its lighter than the V6 too, so Lotus haven't simplified, but they've added lightness!

Looks like you had a good time. I picked up my V6 manual yesterday but I do have a deposit on an I4 that will be executed around the time of the final run in a few years. I'm older so I figured one last manual before I move to the I4 DCT.

Same, I'll wait for the I4, especially since the manual trans isn't that great

One advantage with the V6 is you can increase the power with mods and tuning. I think the I4 is more limited because of the need for cooling which is difficult in a mid-engine car. The motor has the potential, but AMG's is in front engine cars.

A lot of people have complained about lack of responsiveness in the DCT gear shifts. Since you say it's responsive, do you think Lotus fixed the issues with it?

Possibly. I thought it was responsive when operated with the paddles, but maybe slightly slow when it was making the changes itself.

@@karlhurn so, according to other reviewers, the dct is best left alone in track mode where it's super quick. Looks to be you had a pretty serious instructor that was more comfortable leaving traction control on.....i have an I4 on order and dying for this content!!
