@National Socialism I live in an area of the country where almost all McDonald's are staffed by white people, and yes the ice cream machines and whatever makes the damn milkshakes is usually down

I don’t know why, but the entire time she’s stirring the milkshake I can’t help but laugh. Just the silence and everything. I feel like you could make a 10 hour loop of it and have her say “good things come to those who wait” every 30 seconds to a minute.

'The Native American tragedy'.
+Brandon Black yeah? and? I fail to see how the similarities to the native american tragedy made the movie suck, when it's based on fact.
Brandon Black
I hate to say it nut Im sympathetic with ray croc here because the McDonald's bros didn't know what they had and didn't take the opportunity
In this case they didn't jump at the opportunity of powdered milkshakes seeing how they were much cheaper to use
that's a bad business move when you think about it
Other people will jump at the opportunity and leave them behind
Croc (I'm probably spelling that wrong) knew it was a cheaper alternative and got to it before anyone else
THATS BUSINESS
Brandon Black even if the two are similar, that doesn’t make the movie horrible, it’s a great movie for what it’s not afraid to tell... plus a Native American like myself liked the movie and Keaton’s acting...

Ironically, in real life Joan and Ray have an affair and Ray begs her to leave her husband. She talks it over with her mom and daughter who threaten to cut all contact if she leaves hubby for Ray. Fun fact: the fast food industry is a huge reason why we have so much processed food today. "Thickening agents and emulsifiers simulate the texture of ice cream." The skyrocketing need for standardization consolidated meat and dairy farms until we have what we've got now -- loads of cheap, unhealthy food.
Not exactly. Processed foods was always a thing, but it became more mainstream after World War 2 for a variety of reasons: the rise of media advertisement that showcased fast and easy meals, convenience due to the expanding middle class with many women wanting to still keep jobs outside the home, the perception of patriotic duty during WWII and meal superiority during the Cold War, and new technology that made more types of food available to eat year round. Fast food industry just took advantage of what was already available to them.

Ray Kroc is like if Tom Nook's life worked out
The fact that Velma from Scooby Doo is serving Batman a powered vanilla milkshake. What a date!
"Good things comes for those who wait" basically she is telling Ray, in front of her own husband, that he will get the bigger prize (her) with a little patience and time when he becomes a millionaire with McDonalds, she will dump her husband for him, the sugar daddy who knew how to pay attention to her advice with the powder milk shake.

Ray Kroc put all the powered milk sakes in all the McDonald's except the original one so the McDonald's wouldn't find out.
No Collar yep, the McDonald Brothers wanted real milk but the problem with that, it was too much money. Kroc wanted to find ways to cut costs and expand.
Cutting costs isn't the only way to expand. Ray was just hung up on changing Everything about the original idea of McDonald's so he could be HIS thing. It's a personality defect he has.
There was nothing wrong with the markup on shakes. It was too time consuming to make, yes, in a business model that is about instant speed. It took her long enough to mix it in the glass, they could done a real shake by then.
Michael Tardi "powered"
Well there's that, but he did bring the real Milk back when McDonald's was big enough. Not sure if it was because he felt he owed the Brothers something or that because he made enough money to afford ice cream again, but it's easy to tell what he's going for.

@@Gunnersman1510 nailed it
@@axx012 He did, but he didn't have the power and influence that Kroc had....he was the top dog, something she clearly found very appealing. There is a scene in the movie where her husband says something along the lines of "well, you're the boss!" to Kroc, and the camera pans to her face with the realization that she is married to the franchisee, not the "boss". Her husband was on the receiving end of orders, not the one giving them. Females are often attracted to the "alpha male" in a societal hierarchy. When her husband started working for Kroc, that role changed and so did she.

At the time, Kroc needed things like this powder to help build his burgeoning burger empire. But after his kingdom was established, it was no longer necessary. The modern day milkshake machine debacle is like a parasite relying on a much bigger creature for survival.

Bruh it’s so funny seeing a corporation slowly downgrading their product for profit and greed. Beautiful movie
Not funny at all. Actually pathetic to watch capitalistic greed perpetually cutting corners in product quality to always increase the profit margin.
Dont forget that profit and innovation allowed them to expand to other categories. The original restaurant had burgers fries and shakes. How many different items do they offer now? Not to mention out of that profit, how many millions have they given to charitable causes?
@@Lehmann108 No one puts a gun to anyones head and says you have to eat there. The beauty of capitalism is the market, you, the consumer decides what exists in the marketplace. Their profit didnt fall from the sky. If youve ever eaten at a mcdonalds you helped make it what it is today.
@@Lehmann108it’s basic human nature, look at how many illicit drugs on the street are cut with baking soda and other poisons just to make an extra buck. When Batman, Ocean Master, and Hawkeye's wife, Laura Barton have dinner together.
Her ideas were so pedestrian, yet the movie almost features her ideas. Powdered milkshake? That had been around for a while already. A store next to a stadium? Yeah, real revolutionary. If this is really how events unfolded with her, you have to think that Ray let her hang around just so he could get some ass.
Well take count that this was around the 50s-60s, in those years women were considered only the ones who work at home, the ones that they're only there to attend their husband, that's what I thinl, also in the movie we see that Ray get tired of that only watching how his wife doesn't do anything
TheBlondie No they went back to using real ice cream years ago it says so near the end of the movie.
Isn't that why we keep them around? Just sayin...
This scene was just for the narrative of how they could get close so fast. Kroc sold milkshake machines and artificial milkshake mixes. He knew about powdered milkshakes.
After seeing this movie I'm probably never going to eat at McDonald's again, not like I was frequenting their establishments before anyway. Besides that Raymond Kroc comes across as an opportunistic sociopath.
Mathieu Cornez You echoe my true feelings. I am with you 100%, what a reptilian character.
Mathieu Cornez not really. He put in ALL the work. He had vision.
Firstly, the "artificial" milkshakes were never harmful, nevertheless, McDonald's reintroduced real milkshakes years ago.
Secondly, Ray Kroc was an opportunist, who enriched thousands of stockholders and franchise owners world-wide, which is to say nothing about the hundreds of thousands of unskilled, often young, workers who are afforded their first job at McDonalds.
I stopped eating mcdonalds after I compared it to wendy’s and burger king
