Honestly for cg from 1997, it holds up pretty well, I feel like they knew what they wanted from the violator and that helps speak the character into its visuals, regardless of the tech available at the time...
Well, Violator is the only decent CG creature. Everything else, especially Malbolgia and the Hell sequence, looks real bad, and I watched the Mummy returns where the Scorpion king has probably the worst one. But tbh, I find the former worse than Mummy returns. And don't give me that shit that it's the 90s, therefore CGI isn't as great as back then. Now, true that CGI is in it's younger age at the time, therefore ain't as great as today, but Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park are released within the early 90s, and their CGI are flawless. Hell, even Men in Black and Starship Troopers both released in 97 have impressive CGI too. This one is released in 97 as well, and 75% of the CGI sucks ass. With the 25% being the Violator himself. So, it doesn't really matter if it's released in the older days, long as the CGI held up.
@@phillipwalling7470 Well the difference between those films and this one is STARK due to them being so crunched for time, having a MUCH smaller team unlike MIB, Terminator 2 and Jurassic park's PLUS the budget was much lower than all of those as well, so that's the real reason the cg MOSTLY looks the way it does, I mean the hell scenes with all the hellspawn was done by a SINGLE DUDE cuz their team was THAT small, so he had to just reuse most of the takes OVER AND OVER and you can see that when you watch it as a lot of them do the same actions at the same time, so that just shows you how constrained they really were....
@@dmxdxl A single dude with alot of time on his hands without worrying about deadlines can make CGI on such a scale. Nowadays, it's a bit easier to make em, so it can be possible, but it could take years to make a legitimately great CGI sequence just for one guy to make.

4:00 my favorite part "viola 1...spawny boi zero..Owhx3 .nyeenyeenyeenyeenyee...Ohh! ,,,,"😂
Aside from Michael Jai White and John Leguizamo playing as Spawn and Violator, it's awesome that the creator Todd McFarlane himself had a cameo role in the movie.
Anyone here after his trailer dropped for mk11?
Me I watched the trailer like 13 times lol
We need a new spawn movie.
The one with violator’s head on the spear 🤘🏼
Mr. Gamer, I am because I’ve always been the biggest fan of anything Spawn related growing up.
No was just amazed a directors HD cut came out. They'll spin anythin for money nowadays, too bad this film didn't get the love it deserved 10, 20 years ago.
This movie does NOT need a remake. What we need is the continuation of the HBO series of Spawn.
Agreed
The same way they continued Watchmen? Hell fucking no!
Yeah. Yeah. You could be his split star
@@alexduta7469 HBO had an animated series back in the 90's. It was pretty good.
i disagree a remake is a must
Violator: *kicks dog*
Spawn: *absolutely unloads gun*
Spawn has such potential. At his highest he's a reality warper.
Whos excited for him in Mk11 as Dlc
Dice me
Me too!!
I’m also hoping soul calibur 2 HD edition will get ported to switch so he and link can fight!
Not me, i never liked MK fighting system.
@@arx3516 why its awesome
@@ant600 it's all light pokes, with really short combos, it's 2D, and it doesn't have the "heavy" feeling that Tekken has.
If anything needs a remake. It's this.
Well your in luck theres one being made
That mad because he black. And spawn is the best superhero and this movie and series is deep Todd McFarlane knows some stuff
I'ma big fan .🤩
“Twinkle twinkle little Spawn! *god you look like crap*. So fertilize my lawn!”
I don't give a shit what people say this is one of my favorite superhero films of all time. If not one of my favorite films of all time period!
This movie is amazing. It's better than most comic movies and its actually pretty scary. This movie rocks. It needs more attention.
None of that is true...lol. I think your nostalgia hat is on too tight.
Scary ? Really ?
This was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid. This, The Mask with Jim Carrey and Friday were on repeat when I was younger haha
Spawn Is Not A Horror Movie Spawn Is A Superhero Movie
I wish they would remake this. I’ve just finished watching this. I LOVED it as a kid. 1997, that was probably the best CG I’ve ever seen when it comes to his cape 😂.
"You've been violated gurly man" love how the violator taunts Spawn in every scene in this movie. 🤡
Probably one of the most accurate to source material type of film. John Leguizamo as Clown was fantastic. And Spawn's design was dope asf.
4:08 "You've been violated, girly man!" lmao
the spawn looks awesome for a movie from its time, i know the graphic effects aren't as good as they are now but it is still cool
Spawn costume so damn hard in a 1997 film. Bring back Michael Jai White and make another classic!💯💯💯👌🏾👌🏾
These scene when the clown turns to the violator it's not bad, its not the best but it's not bad.
Best scene 💪
Hard to believe it has been over 25 years. Still, one of my favorite 90's films.❤❤❤
Never realized how good the cinematography was in this movie
This is by far one of the one of the best hero costumes they made back in the 90s
Come on guys. The dog bit him on his "achilles" tendon!
Any role played by John Leguizamo is a guaranteed good time.
In Mortal Kombat 11, Spawn's interaction with The Joker is.
Spawn: No more jokes, no more laughs!
Joker: Sounds like someone has a bad case of the grumps.
Spawn: I freaking hate clowns.
This movie deserves a reboot!
I loved this movie as a kid. Sure the cgi isnt the best, and its not completely faithful to the comics. But, compared to movies today, the practical effects really hold up.
hey look its cho gath from league of legends
(a little context uhm cho gath was one of the first ever characters in the game and he was very rushed so they ended up just ripping off the violator)
Nocturne vs Cho'Gath do be hella lit in live action🤯🤯🤯🔥🔥🔥
Why people talk shit about the cgi is crazy. This. Was. A. Masterpiece! Still love it to this day. Amazing film. And soundtrack.
Still better than justice league CGI
Another B-movie i could watch over and over again! ♥️
"You've been violated, girly-man!!!"
Directors cut is SUPERIOR! They need to take another crack at this movie !
Man the practical effects are great and actors also doing their best! Violater and spawn both amazing in ther roles
The effects for this movie had actually aged quite well.
No, they haven't...lol. Have you seen the rest of the movie recently? This scene still looks pretty good. But everything else? The Hell scenes look especially atrocious.
It looks good, I agree. I see that in some scenes Violator is a giant animatronic. That helps.
Spawn was the reason why I learned to draw, and this movie was and will always be my absolute favorite. I wish they bring back, not only the movie, but the tv series too. Damn me, why nobody make things like this anymore. Now we only get woke crap.
4:19 my favorite part😂😂😂😂😂
How is the quality so great on this? 😍
Curious points: 1. I watched this film about 100 times when I was a kid and I had never noticed that Todd appeared crazy hahah. 2. The Violator is very good, this characterization and interpretation by John Leguizano is simply sensational. 3. Todd please make us a new movie!!!!!!
Never realized til today, out of the false names he disclaimed, 2 of them are his brothers. Vindicator and Vaporizer
All four are his brothers.
@@MrPumpkinsss the vibrator? Lol
@@demonkazi lol!!!
@@demonkazi honestly I couldn't understand what he said. I just figured he named his four brothers Vindicator, Vandalizer, Vaporizer and Vacillator.
Edit: I just looked it up. On IMDb it says that he named two of them wrong. For unkown reasons.
m.imdb.com/title/tt0120177/trivia
@@MrPumpkinsss Honestly think he just forgot the names but the director was like "you're the best part of this movie. We'll let it go"
Honestly for cg from 1997, it holds up pretty well, I feel like they knew what they wanted from the violator and that helps speak the character into its visuals, regardless of the tech available at the time...
@@phillipwalling7470 Especially at that time!!...
I have to admit, the cg looked rough at the beginning of the transformation but overall, the cg on Violator is great, fight me.
Whatever you say about this, i watched This movie at the perfect time, couldnt have been older than 14 and had read at least 150 issues of spawn by then, this is so so so much frickin fun fron start to finish, i literally laugh the whole time with Leguizamo, he steals the show, and the effects are dated but Sooo dope, they got a lot of personality, i need to rewatch this a gazillion times
(3:59)-Flop movie or not, he brought his A game at having fun with the role🤣
Wow, I just thought of something n researched. If spawn is a superhero, then this is the first black superhero movie plus it rated r I believe. If not then this is the first black anti hero movie.
Blade is the first black superhero... with a rated r movie and a rated r marvel movie before deadpool.
Black panther from this generation is from wakanda n its fiction n his named is T'challa.
But our last generation black panther(s) is from Oakland, California n its non-fiction n their names is Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton.
Yeah.

Everybody else: ..." cause knowledge its power".
When did DC's Steel come out? If you guys don't count it, it's understandable, but still...
@@Hulkzilla0 damn I forgot about steel with shaq. Damn wow I forgot about that. Wow thk u for remind me of that seriously. Great job. Damn that really blew me away like wow... shit... n wtf? Lol
@@Hulkzilla0 steel came out on 1997. By the way, if we gonna say wat was the first black superhero movie which besides marvel n dc plus spawn is not on none it is on image comics with todd mcfarlane of course. We might as well bring the real actually first black superhero (s), meteor man n blank man Lol but seriously yea. Its true.
@@introvertindividual I think we can go further back than that, possibly. But if we only include comic book movie adaptations, then maybe Spawn was the first? I think it also came out on 1997.
@Jimbo Jones but they changed a black character to white in this movie.....
Can't wait for MK11 for spawn gameplay
