Thanks for watching! It's great to be finally getting this video out since it's been in the works for a while now. I'm really happy with how it came out, it's always fun looking into the strange world of these kinds of dinosaur sci-fi stories. Let me know what you guys thought of it down below.

Will you look at sauria??? Since the first eposide is out
Great video appreciate the hard work you put in to it
Great story telling
I dont understand why the main lizard woman wants to kill all the Humans but she likes mating with Human men..?..
I just read this based on this based and I really really enjoyed the first novel
Kerrick just walking into Lizard City like a boss to go in the Yeast Rolls' house, wipe his feet on her couch, and telling her exactly how it is going to be. That's BDE right there.
The "Yeast Roll"? Is there a paleolithic Denny's?
@@Cokehead_Drug_Addict_Zelensky Sizzler, not Denny's. Remember this is back in the day when Sizzler was still around. That's where the lizard people got their name for their female leaders. The Yeast Roll of the city. They'd abbreviate it sometimes just by yelling, "Ah, Yeasty" and did so out of reverence for the food and the position. There was no food more glorious than a Sizzler Yeast Roll and no position more exalted than Yeast Roll, or "Ah, Yeasty," if you were down with the lingo.
Those crazy lizard kids with their Yeasties and their skateboards, always playing those video games down at the arcade and shooting their living weapons they called Incest. The weapons were very strong and capable, but after I heard what they called them I didn't want to ask where they came from. I was afraid to.
I assume it started something like, "Oh big step brother lizard kun, my big lizard head is stuck in the clothes dryer. Can you help me? But don't look because all my clothes are in the dryer too and I'm only wearing the scales god gave me."
@@jeremysmith4620what did I just read…
Yes
Big Mammal Energy.
Eden trilogy could easily be turned into an RTS PC game in the 90s.
Whoa, that's accurate and a kick of nostalgia for something that didn't even happen.
Weird.
Cool.
But weird.
Word!
The question is would they use computer animation for the cutscenes or live actors.
@lordtrout6099
Live Actors and FMV, of course!
They are the future while unleashing the power of the CD-ROM.
The Paramutan sound uncomfortably like bad Inuit stereotypes, complete with the fact that "Eskimo" also means "raw meat eater".
I think they're also mixed with older depictions of neanderthals given their differing proportions and hirstuteness.
I think it's also partly in universe universe unfamilarity.
I don't think Harrison meant to be insultingbut was indeed tone deaf.
I could do homework, or I could watch this.
Watch it while doing homework 👍
Keep your grades up!
Why are you doing homework mid Summer
I think the choice is obvious.
@@vladislavpetkov6120 in the southern hemisphere it is mid winter
I understand you're a dinosaur channel, but I absolutely love how you tackle old, somewhat obscure books. Fictional worlds I had no idea about.
Honestly people discussing old books is niche more people should be filling on RUclips.
The "Well Told Tale" and "HorrorBabble" and two channels that narrate old fiction. The narrators have amazing voices :D
@@BaldingClamydia I sub to HorrorBabble, but had never heard of Well Told Tale, so I'll have to check it out. Thanks for the suggestion. HorrorBabble is the absolute best when I need a soothing voice to read 10 hours worth of the Cthulhu Mythos to me.
@jeremysmith4620 Agreed! Several of their stories I've tried to read in print and couldn't get through it. They have definitely helped me appreciate stuff I otherwise wouldn't 😄
Right! I was 5 seconds in and was shocked I never heard about this book series!!! It's right up alley and definitely something I would have read as a young adult
especially if some of the old obscure books are the kind that movie studios should be looking for to make into movies
I'm definitely going to make some of the creatures from this series into figurines! I must thank you for giving me the knowledge on these beasts, along with the beasts of the Quintaglio trilogy.
If you're ever going to sell them, you should have people like Andy from @andysdinosaurreviews advertise your work
Male Yelane in a nutshell:
I dont wanna be horny, I just wanna be happy
Male Yelane live in an existential post-nut clarity
"Therefore interruption" is HK-47-level snark lmao
Really verbose way of saying it we should speak like this more what do y'all think?
An excellent summary of this wonderful book! Your choice of visuals was very good too.
I have had this trilogy in my possession for many, many years and have read them often.
You are indeed a Son of Gendasi.
The Paramutan could be descendants of Bonobos.
The Tanu could be descendants of Chimpanzees.
Oh my gosh! He actually said bitch! That’s so out of nowhere and yet at the same time hilarious!
"...just greets him with more punches until he runs away like a little bitch..." That made me laugh so hard I had to rewind the video like three times! Awesome video besides, cannot wait to read these books!
Great video and there have been some great comments from others already. I found your channel because I'd got really hooked on iceberg videos, I do follow a small number of paleo channels too. This stuff appeals to me on so many levels, your videos are so easy to listen to and a lot of harmless fun. Some of these older movies or books are fascinating. The love you have for this subject is clear from your storytelling. I also love your use of visuals, not merely the artwork but the shots of beaches, forests and rivers.. they set the scene so well. Relaxing, interesting and fun what more can anyone want from a channel.
Well yea, advanced societies don't need fire as much, but when they're just starting out as a people they need it. You have to be primitive before you can be advanced, and that usually starts with fire. Fire unlocks more calories from food which allows more brain power
I saw your first Eden review two weeks ago, and was sad to see part 2 was not released yet and perhaps wouldn’t be anytime soon.
Glad I was wrong!
Dude!! What a Spectacular Secual!!! Seriously this Series deserves to get for a Tv, Comic or any other visual design adaptation!! Is So good!! I cant wait for the Third and Final Tome!! Thank you so Much!! ❤️🦖
Yes this book series needs the Disney treatment where Kerrick is replaced by a strong black female lesbian character.
@@Cokehead_Drug_Addict_Zelensky Lol, Nope.
It needs to be in Adult Swim, by the direction of Genndy Tartakovsky, with Scientifically Paleontólogy Designs like Mario Lanzas and maybe with Disney Animation Classic Style but in a Bloody Epic Focus 🦕😎👍🦖
@@juanisol8275 I demand Disney, though. This book was written at a time when America wasn't nearly as diverse and therefore demands a reimagining for modern audiences.
@@Cokehead_Drug_Addict_Zelensky 🤔 It sounds reasonably probable, if you don't want to respect the material, focus on the concept that explains the history and develop a coherent contemporary adaptation to the idea that they are in an alternative earth (Maybe a TV Series or Movie)...If they can do that whell for me Is Ok, i just dont want another bad Reboot or get cut in half like Steven Universe
But Will awesome if whe get a adaptation like the direction style of Moon Girl, Amphibia or even Molly Magee! That could be work and trully a interesting Re-interpretation too!
@@juanisol8275 I will NOT be satisfied unless Kerrick is portrayed by transgender Innuit BIPOC female! Ever heard of "representation"? Also the Tanu sammad will not be just "one people" and will look like a meeting of the United Nations with each member hailing from a different ethnic group from around the world. It's perfectly plausible that a clan of paleolithic hunter gatherers could be made up of a Botswanan, a Pakistani, a Mongolian, and a 6 foot tall blonde Swedish man. That's how anthropology and evolution works so if this adaptation wants to cling to an ounce of scientific feasibility in this otherwise fictitious fantasy world they WILL take my advice. I mean, it would have talking dinosaur people in it which is obviously false so why not have the Tanu driving BMW M3 sport sedans?
Ok so quick bit for the folks who are caught up on how a snake can fry itself without realizing that it's hurting itself. So reptiles have a differently structured nervous system so this sort of thing isn't rare, regardless of whether the snake is wild caught or captive bred. The heat attracts them but the heat can also damage the nerves before the transmission of pain would be sent to the brain and when it does the sensation of pain is dulled if not gone because they already cooked the nerve. Don't get heat rocks and be careful about heating pad placement as well as the type of rock you use beneath basking lamps. I really oversimplified this but if you want a better explanation then these topics will pull all the info you need to understand that not all pain is felt the same way.
1.) Chimpanzee muscle strength and structure comparative to human. Why chimps weigh less and are still stronger.
2.) Insect pain receptor. Do ants feel pain?
3.) Reptile lamp burns
4.) Reptile heat rock burns
I would also like to add that even if you get a heating pad, please please *please* also get a thermostat controller as heating pads aren't always 100% reliable and many things can mess them up to overheat or cooldown too much
Finally, part 2 electric boogaloo
Thank you for this vid! I love hearing about this series, please take as long as you need!
Why do I find this so funny. Nice work mate
I imagine for anybody who's going to plan to turn these books into movies, would need to really figure out how to handle all this material/exposition in a way that wouldn't feel too complex and confusing. That way its more digestible to the general audience.
This is probably too "out there" for general audiences for this to be turned into a movie. I'd totally watch it though.
@@haysuesOG Well it could work as a miniseries.
I think a different perspectives will work.
For example, a bit of the book from the Yelane point of view will be shot with attractive reptilian humanoid models, while humans will be shown with cji models of half-ape disgucting things.
When the story is in the pov of humans, yelane will be unnercing and creepy cgi models, while humans will be attractive.
@haysuesOG Fuck yeah! I'd watch this as a show in a heartbeat!
@@TylerRakstis maybe yes. Just like how many times Lost World novel is adapted into series/movies
I read this series years ago. Thanks for the refresher. You can also review the "Serpent Catch " series by Dave Wolverton which I enjoyed quite a bit reading. And also closest to my heart, the "Destroyermen" series by Taylor Anderson which is both is amazing and very immersive.
Ok so my question is simple, are there "Dinosaurs" in those books ?
@@chubibi06 Yes...to some degree. Probably as many as in East of Eden.
Thank you for your videos about these books! They are one of my favorite reads, and I've read through them twice. Your humor in talking about them is great too.
WTF!!! A few seconds in and I'm shocked and disappointed that I've NEVER heard about this book series!!!!!! 😭
It's avatar but if it was good
Super random double d but will you ever do a land before time videos? With like 20 movies you'd have a gold mine for content and memes
Maybe one day. It would be a lot to take down, given how much of it there is. Plus, I have other franchises I want to prioritize first
I actually wasn't crazy about West of Eden, but I felt like the sequel (this one, anyways) was really a solid improvement in a lot of ways.
Alright, you've convinced me, I'll dig out my paper copies for another re-read. It's been about a decade.
Sir I gotta take off work Diego just woke the beast
I cant believe i never heard of this series. Awesome job
Oh hey.
Not dino related, but
Harry Harrison wrote all of the Stainless Steel Rat books.
I didn't know he did this dino stuff too.
He mentioned it in the first video but there are newcomers here and there that may find this useful or not have seen the first video yet
A great video summarizing a great book! Awesome work, as always, Diego! I'm really loving both your coverage of this series, aswell as just your coverage of Dino-scifi series and novels in general! Can't wait to see what's next in the works both for the channel and for the series, and would absolutely LOVE to see you something like pellucidar, or the land that time forgot, and other series like that!! Either way, keep up making the awesome content bro!
Humans evolving from NEW world monkeys ? Is it a mistake in narration or is it an actual thing in the story?
It's a thing in the story. They're not supposed to be Homo sapiens; just incredibly similar in outward appearance.
@@necrogenisis okay thank you a lot
New world Ape
Not really human, they just convergently evolving into one
The Paramutans sure know how to live
I was just rewatching West of Eden so this is amazingly convenient and I’m happy as hell
Damn, you’re gettin gudder
I read these books back in high school/college and I've really been enjoying your retrospective! The trilogy didn't get enough love.
I have not yet watched the video (nor it's predecessor), but I want to say thank you for introducing me to the series! I started West of Eden a few months ago and am currently reading Winter in Eden. I enjoyed the books so far, more than anything else I read in the last five years. It's a shame those books don't get more recognition. Such as a Netflix series. Heck, how is it that this wasn't made into film already?
7:10 they're civilized which could be argued to be self domestication. Them not understanding fire is like a person raised in a city being completely oblivious to nature even though they've studied it in school and been to parks.
Hey: those sf novels sound really good! 🙂👍 I only know Harrison´s Stainless Steel Rat books... Thank you for the introduction! 👍
Cant wait for the next one!
I have been waiting for this video for so long, I loved the first one
PLEASE MORE OF THIS SERIES!!!
also, harry harrisons insistance on them not knowing about fire is stupid because forests burn, and those changes started a lot earlier than that meteorite. And there were other events like that in history. The period of tree growth which created coal was long before all of this so coniferous trees were a thing, but I guess it's fine if they're just from the jungle and never ventured into temperate zones before. Jungles do not burn nearly as often as forests do.
1:09:00 some crabs use sea anomones as box gloves
Started listening to this series via audiobook (while at work) because of this channel. Thanks.
When I was reading this book years ago, I kinda got a feeling that the “daughters of life” religion was sort of similar to or inspired by Buddhism. Some wise one becomes enlightened, teaches principles and wise sayings to dispels and they memorize and recite. I also got the feeling of a focus on philosophy and the right way to live, as opposed to an religion based on a god.
But that is my opinion and my impression. Other people are entitled to have different opinions.
Some of the speculation might be weird but it's still interesting.
Thx Dino guy
Hell yeah!! I was excited for this one!
Because of your last vid I had to skip over it until I read the book. I finished the book and I guess now I have to read the sequel…
Hell yeah! Hope you enjoy it
@@DinoDiego16well I ended up reading it on a plane and it was fantastic! I’m just about to finish Return as well.
Can’t wait for the next one! I love videos like this because I don’t have the attention span to read well written literature like this but I’m always so curious and interested to know. Thank you so much for bringing this into my life; I’m subscribed and invested now! Keep up the great work! I look forward to watching the rest of your content (already on Teri 5 of your paleontology iceberg and loving it)! ✨🫶🏼❤

For some reason, I didn't picture Kerrick having a beard.
Brilliant & engaging xxxx

Oh cool I hadn't heard about this, how does it compare to his Deathworld series? I read the trilogy a while back and...some really cool ideas but super mixed for me, loved the first book but the other two were a little repetitive. Love the Pyrrans and their culture, if these books have anything like that I'll definitely give them a look.
Can’t wait for the third video!
Yeah, well the yilanè (a word which is surprisingly in this tablet's autofinish lexicon for some reason O.o) are fricking hideous.

Hey Dino Diego have you ever heard of the book thunder of time I believe it's about dinasores but I'm not sure
The Terra papers
Will you be doing the third book
I think this story was more experimental than the first one, I enjoyed more the first book, but this is a bit lame, ejoyable, but lame, idk how to describe it- I don´t even hear any dinosaurs here
The reason why dinosaurs are not mentioned is because there's explained in the first one on how the yilane became what they were but because they weren't dinosaurs or animals in a way they had obtained civilization
Well i hope the third and final one meets up to your expectations
I like this story
Also great video
Have you heard the 1st episode of sauria is coming this August and the creatures designs look more interesting than this book

I really don't think he pronounces it right. I feel it is pronounced: Yil-a-nee. I could be pretty sure I'm right. What does everyone else think?
Well, I got the pronunciation from the audio book. And I believe the "e" in Yilane has an accent mark that's supposed to be pronounced as "ey". I'd need to double check that though
A supposedly intelligent race but somehow they don't understand the concept of fire? Such simpleton world building really ruined this series... Even ordinary animals understand what fire is and that it can spread and destroy entire ecosystems...
With how stupid people are these days(with infinite knowledge at their fingertips), it don't surprise me that these tylosaur people may not be on the up and up about everything. Plus, their evolutionary path is a lot different than ours.
Maybe that's concept only works, if the race was aquatic being which have no business roaming in the terestrial world.
Meanwhile, most land animals know fire but not all know how to use it including plenty of non great apes human and elephant despite of the high intelligence. While certain hawks know how to exploited fire despite possibly not as smart as crow or ape
