I don't care what anyone says this is Smith personifying an addiction, who promises "you" everything while simultaneously taking it all away. Sweet, subtle, violent, comforting, all at the same time.
There's something so haunting but so calming about this song. I literally have never heard anything quite like it.

That's what made Elliot so special.
I see this song as a warning. Its basically about a personified addiction trying to convince someone to indulge in it, and as someone who probably has reason to just break down and get addicted as a way to avoid life, I see this song as a way to remind myself that it isn't that bad, and that I should just keep going.

His delicate voice make the saddest lyrics a delight to the ears, but then you realize the meaning and it hits you hard.
this is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion. he captures this beautiful and comforting sadness so well. his voice is so reassuring but also so tired and heartachingly sad. Elliott smith is a genius. I don't know where I would be without his music.

i still remember our last date and how enamoured i was, thinking “i probably look so dumb staring at him right now”
we were at a bar he liked, i didn’t know the city too well, i remember our kisses and the comforting silence i felt after them, but he probably felt it was awkward.
i wonder if it’ll be gut wrenching if i pass by the bar we had our last date at, still remember his blue dress shirt and his smile. i’ve been on the verge of throwing up cause i miss him so much.

Love that movie.
Somehow, Smith managed to emulate that subtly nagging voice inside the head and heart of every alcoholic. I hear this and feel thankful to be three-and-a-half years sober.

I heard about Elliott Smith a long time ago. He was recommended to me by a friend. I never got around to listening to him. A little while later I read a book called "Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda". Elliott was mentioned many times throughout the book so I decided I should finally give him a listen. But I forgot, until now. The movie version of the book (they changed the name to "Love, Simon") is coming out so I decided to read the book again. This time I didn't forget to look up this song. I am so not disappointed!

As a teenager who has watched Rick and Morty, I can say that this song depressed and makes me wanna cry me like it did Tiny Rick.
