That #5 - spot on! I lived in the Bahamas for 3 years and the ONLY people that asked about my work were visiting Americans. Can't stand 'work talk' - boring 😂!
There's definitely a difference in the food. My skin cleared up so well the week I was in Mexico. Soon as I came home my skin was back looking dull and bumpy. And Yes I ate the same thing I would normally eat. Fruit for breakfast and tacos for dinner lol
Facts💯 I’ve lived in Jamaica for fifteen years and the culture shock was unbelievable. I went there with my New York aggressive behavior blowing the car horn without patience, they don’t blow horns there unless it’s extremely necessary, then their lay back way of life was hard to get use to, I was always telling them I was in hurry if they could speed it up they would look at me like I was crazy. Eventually I had to learn to calm down bcaz everyone was so chilled, on coming back to the states to visit I couldn’t wait to leave it was erratic fast pace and noisy, gives me panic attacks.
I’m in Mexico. I’m not in a tourist area, so I get stares but a lot of friendly stares. There are people here who have never seen a black person in real life, so I’m used to that for those who have never met me. I left Sally yesterday with items in my hands because I didn’t purchase a shopper bag. There were no issues with anyone suspecting if I stole. If I could get my parents to move here, I’d never go back to the US. Omg about storage facilities; that is soooo true! And the conversations, omg so true. I heard a loud American in a spa discussing only work. It made me realize what life outside of the US is all about. You make me want to vlog again.
This is so true we don’t have black people in many areas of Mexico and the stares are definitely out of curiosity we are a very curious people in general. I’ve never felt like people stared at me in stores. I don’t know how I’d react if someone assumed I was stealing. 😳
I was in Europe for a week and enjoyed not being rushed during dinner. When I Got back my friend and I sat in a restaurant. We had not seen each other for three months. She also had got back from Europe. When we went to a restaurant in New York the waiter kept checking in on us and would not leave us in peace. At one point he took the meal away but we cannot even finished. It was quite a culture shock.
Lol! “As little as possible.” Love it! My response to total strangers who ask me what I do is, “ I live my best life!” It’s really annoying when people are trying to size you up!
Stephanie: you speak truth!!! I decluttered about 10 or so years ago and it did feel good. I mean it felt SO GOOD! I just did it again as I've sold my house and living with my sister before I start my around the world travels. I know your main target is for black women but, as a black male, I find your information valuable, truthful, and trustworthy! I remember some years ago my car broke down and my parents offered me their car to get me through the day or two that I'd be without (to get to/from work etc.), but I declined. I had figured out the local bus and I could get to/from work AND to/from my mechanics place (with a little bit of a walk down the street). Funny, but it was as if my mother was slightly offended. But yes, it was empowering and I love to walk. Currently I cannot drive due to shoulder surgery and I'm back walking/taking the bus to/from physical therapy :) I love how you're living life and sharing your thoughts and ideas! Thank you so much. ps - Oh wow, just saw the comment from BelindaJo Whitmore... "Most of the people I get along well with, are from overseas"... Wow - that's kinda how I feel as well!
Sooo true! I've lived abroad for 11 years now, and I'm usually culture shocked just getting to the airport in the States! Thanks, love your content Stephanie!
"How valuable a person are you?" Facts!!! Also, Americans do talk loud in general. I'm happy and humbled that you found my video helpful! Keep doing your thing Sis! I love when people take advantage of the opportunity to travel and experience new things abroad. "Boycotting winter..." sign me up!!! 😂😂😂 Peace!
Wow Stephanie...so true. Life in the States especially now is not a kind or loving place to be many times. I wish you a peaceful as possible time here, and hope you will be on your way to a more lovely place very soon. I’m looking for a place to stay for a 2-month stay in Mexico...perhaps Baja. After your video I feel even happier that I have chosen Mexico to visit for some peace and quiet. I’ll be working remotely, but at least I’ll a break from here for a bit. Safe travels , Stephanie!💜💜
i felt all of these after living in Germany for some years. I had to really do a change of thought process in the US. The whole response to COVID in the US of "I'm not comfortable so I'm going to do what I want" showed the lack of community and caring for us in the US. Ugh. The US is so ghetto.
Yes please do a video on MA from those other countries, I love such educated conversations. I love that "how are you, what do you do conversations". I can't stand that conversation because right away you're being judge by your title and purse. My strongest pet peeve.
Everything that you stated I have found to be true when I 've traveled abroad. Also, for me that feeling of being treated differently always starts when I'm in the airport among other Americans heading for the states. Have a safe flight.
I returned from overseas after one year away. As an Aftican American US citizen, it was a difficult transition. I had to get used to the microaggressions that you mentioned. Truthfully, I would compare returning to the states to someone having to put on an ill fitting, oversized heavy coat that you didn't realize you were constantly wearing until you had the opportunity to take it off when living elsewhere. It's an oppressive feeling to have to mentally prepare to function in a society that is not particularly welcoming and in the case of police, downright hostile. Family situations preclude my departure, but I wish I could leave.
I just completed a return and then a ( woohoo ) depart of the US. One thing that stood out to me was the annoying small talk and fake "how are you's" that come at you when you're trying to check out with your items in a store or what have you. The dining experiences were def a huge shock as well, between the poor quality, XL price AND 20% tipping expectations, and like you mentioned the lack of peace from the server. Also, how we ignore one another when passing by. In Mexico, a casual greeting would typically be offered.
I will be thinking of you while you are in the US. I am wishing you are able to shield yourself from all the worst aspects of surviving in the US in order to return safely to Mexico.
Awesome observations, Stephanie! I notice many of these same differences when returning to the US from the Caribbean- I’ve been to MX only twice. You definitely underscore why leaving the US permanently isn’t such a bad idea. Thanks for sharing!
The U.S. also has cheap gas to encourage car culture including buying massive vehicles even when a small car would do. I've always lived close to downtown and love being able to walk to most things.
14:45 oooh, that explains a lot. I dated an african american man once, and whenever we would go out, as soon as I put down my cutlery, he would ask me, do you want anything else? If I said no, he would call the waiter for the bill immediately ... I was like.. ehm, are you on the run? 😆To me it felt very rushed. Because usually we would sit and talk after finishing our meals over here in Germany and the waiters would come and ask you would you like something else.. of course you wouldn’t just sit there for 2 more hours without ordering anymore, but don’t rush me 😄
This is cool. Another guy here who finds it interesting black travelers around the world. I will be starting my travels in the future and Mexico is sounding really interesting for sure. Can't wait to travel the world. I love that most of these places are walkable. I love to walk.
Hi Stephanie! I had to laugh when you spoke about McDonald's food abroad. I lived in Berlin, Germany for 3 years and loved McD's because they would bake the buns right there. You could smell freshly-baked bread while sitting at the drive-thru, lol. Also, you could go to a German restaurant and sit all night. My girlfriends and I would make a night of it. Love your channel.
The McDonald’s in Germany fried the apple pie and it was awesome. I never understood why it was changed in the USA years ago!! The mcd’s in Germany also served good beer!
Thank you so much for talking about Mexico, I always wonder why a lot of blacks are gravitate towards Mexico, and I must say I was busy looking at the part that is violent, knowing that not every part of Mexico is like that, even though here is America they always show the negative part of any other foreign place because of the racism that we experience our self here, but I knew it was something good about it because I hear a lot of blacks saying how much they like Mexico mainly black women, now I have an interest in going to Mexico but what I like to know from you is what part of Mexico is the best place for black women and black men because one day I would like to vacation there, and I rather get my information from you because you were straight into the point, and you I know it would not give me any pet advice, that’s how much confidence I have in your word, I’m new to your channel but you are a straight shooter, so you will listen too, so thank you for all of the information that you have been giving I’m still trying to catch up with a lot of this information that you were giving, I find it very intriguing even though right now I can’t be moving around abroad like that, married husband is not interested in moving around going abroad, but if anything ever happened in our life and he leaves before I do and I’m not too senior citizen to do anything I’m very intrigued.Laugh out loud God for bid anything to happen, but you still need to plan so I find the things that you Saying very intriguing call mom so I put that on my bucket list, so thank you so much for your information and have a wonderful weekend and once again thank you for your unapologetic honesty. Years ago before ever had any children, my desires were to live abroad call mom but life has a way of changing things get married and having children going to school working raising your family including your husband in life changed and I was never able to go abroad, and I removed it from my mind you really didn’t think about it, Until you popped up on my phone one day without me even looking for your videos, and now I’m stuck in a marvelous way, I respect and admire your beautiful powerful women and I thank you for your honesty and sharing your journey with us so as of now I’m living by curiously do you beautiful sisters of mine.😍👩🏾🦲😍
Happy travels and BON VOYAGE!!! I havnt been since ‘90, but... if you like ruins or temples seeing TULUM is a must. Most check out Chitzinitza, but it’s hours on a tour bus, in JUNE little AC, and your directors are BORED/boring! TULUM tours better. If you swim; cenotes’ are a dream. If you dance or party or club hop it starts really late, 1am lol. Have the best time ever!!! Imma retired bartender, and the alcohol content of most all their liquors is WAY less than ours ie. ours 80%, theirs 40%! So if you drink....❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻
I'm definitely interested to know about your life in South Africa was. I'm interested in going sometime next year so your expertise would be appreciated.
Hi! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I think it's great. what was your experience when you visited South Africa? Please share, that's if you have not done so already.
Mexico sounds like my kind of town! I hate how we Americans size up one another by their titles and education. Can you image the looks here if your response to work? As little as possible... I love that response.
It Was a Culture Shock For Me When I First Went To The USA With My Family, As a Child, Because Our Hotels (Four Seasons/RitzCarlton) Insisted On Driving Us EVERYWHERE When We Went Out. “NOT ADVISABLE”, They Told My Family. We’re English. We Lived In Central London & Walked Everywhere Or Took Buses. Thankfully As An Adult In SoCal I Started Taking Buses Along PCH. In Pasadena (As An Adult) I Walk Everywhere. I Love It. So Freeing. But I Totally Empathise About The Culture Shock. Very Sad. :(
I used to live in the USA but now im. In Mexico. But I do speak spanish. I would def recommend learning Spanish. All the places youve mentioned are where predominantly english speakers are. So you dont really get the feel of the heart of Mexico. Plus you also get to see so many cool things that you wouldn't be able to see with only knowing english. Plus you get to connect with cool ppl and get inside info on anything you need. Where as the info you get from mainly english speakers can be a little outdated at times.
I really love your videos. It's been my dream to live aboard for the last 5 + years. The dream has gained steam since my divorce 2 years ago but I would really love some information on healthcare for things like dental service female issues how do you go about finding a doctor and paying for these services. And is the healthcare as good as what you would receive at home in the states
Great I love your vids and you are right! Lived abroad for decades fell in love with it and our family experienced the back to the USA culture shock. Btw Where is the link for the declutter vid before traveling abroad you spoke of?
I once visited LA and my brothe who I was visiting at the time needed the car, so I just went for a stroll down the street (residential). No more than 5 minutes in, police car stops and 2 policemen come up to me and say someone called police because they saw suspicious activity (me walking on public sidewalk). I had to explain I am from Europe and just went for a walk. They looked at each other not understanding, they asked me where is my dog (if you walk, it must be walking dog situation only) LOL It was super weird.
I'd say if you want to live in Mexico, you need to learn Spanish when you get down there. But for visits / not conducting business, English is spoken in the areas popular with Americans and Canadians. I speak Spanish on the level of a 2 year old, and that's been enough for me to do what I need to do.
@@StephaniePerry You’re awesome! Thank you! Lol! I took Spanish in high school and college. If you don’t us it…you definitely lose it. I picked it back up last year. I can read it better than I can speak or understand it. I’ll get there. 😀
Question: Where in America do you have problems walking out of the store without a receipt?? I’ve been in America my whole life and I’ve never experienced anything like that. But I have not lived all over America so help a sister out, LOL
I'm from Jersey and now reside in Florida and I've mostly experienced this is beauty supply stores and some Wal-Marts. I especially experience this when I visit California and certain parts of the south.
I can confirm as well that Walmarts in northern California (SF Bay Area) will ask to check my receipt before I exit. I have seen staff run to the door to make sure I don't exit without my receipt checked. Other stores will sometimes pester me if the receipt is not prominently displayed in my hand ("Can I see your bag?") so now I just keep it in my hand displayed outward until I exit. Walgreen's drug store is good for this harassment and also calling staff with overhead codes to follow me from the point I enter the store until I exit. I mostly shop online now because I am tired of the tomfoolery.
@@belindawilliams4915 they do that to everyone as they are leaving. We all have to show our receipts before leaving Walmart. The only time I avoid it is if what I buy is in my purse. Then I walk passed the line at the door where absolutely everyone is being checked. Not many black people live here. Thx for responding sis.I have not seen it happen in a Walgreens. Following I is insane..🙄
@@bronzedrage I used to live in Covington Ga. they never allowed buses there. It’s a small town of mostly white people... the most harassment I have ever had was from black people... about my dark skin 🙄 I try to tell folks that if it wasn’t for television and movies, I would not know anything about racism...I honestly don’t know how I escaped it. When I walk into the store they smiled at me and if I’m in a clothing store of course like everyone else they come over and asked do you need help. But if I say I’m just looking they tell me their name and they said “if you need any assistance I’ll be over here “ and then they go back over to the cash register and they will either be on the phone or fixing a display or something like that.
I've been pepper sprayed by a security guard while walking OUT of a hospital. I don't think this comment section will give me enough space to write out WHERE in America this happens to Black people.

Can you make a video about your experience in Europe? Portugal specifically.
Always great information! May the angels of the Lord be encamped around about you.
Thank you Eartha. And you too. 💗
I’m going to Cancun in June for my boyfriend’s birthday. I can’t wait.
Enjoy!! I really think Mexico is the total package. And I agree with Linda, I hope you have time to explore a little. 💗
Safe travels!
I'm definitely interested to know about your life in South Africa was. I'm interested in going sometime next year so your expertise would be appreciated.
Greetings, Hola Stephanie from the Bay Area! Great topic!
My new line from Ms. Shida, when asked what do I do? Uh live a life of leisure!!!!! What do you do? 😂🤣🤣🤣
Love this video. Thank you, Stephanie!!!
You're very welcome Jacqueline! Thanks for watching. 💗
Great information. I hate you have to return to the constant anxiety we live under; but I'm sure you won't have to be here for very long.
Not long at all. And there's comfort in knowing that I can leave when I'm ready. I hope more of us get to exercise our options. 💗
Hi! I'm a new subscriber to your channel and I think it's great. what was your experience when you visited South Africa? Please share, that's if you have not done so already.
I would like to hear about SA too.
thanks for sharing Stephanie!
So true observations ! The U.S.A. needs a good dosis of community lifestyle : kibbutz, cooperatives, brotherhood and sisterhood .
Please share your experiences about your year in Asia. Thank you.
Will do! Thanks Theodore. 💗
Very Sad. :(
Travel safely Stephanie - and share those great habits of Mexico here in the US I’m sure they’ll be receptive people- stay positive
Wow my sister husband is from Yemen and people are very nice to there she wants to go back …. I going to visit
cool video.
Please do videos on other culture shocks 🌍
Will do Cyn Cin! 💗
Stephanie: “Once I enter the US, McDonalds is dead to me…”
That’s really funny.
The video on decluttering is not there. Please post it.
Thank you.
Hi Kim, Where are you thinking about going? Healthcare really varies country to country,?
I was thinking of the Mayan Riviera or Portugal
I’d like to hear your culture shock story about South Africa.
Will do Andrea! 💗
Great I love your vids and you are right! Lived abroad for decades fell in love with it and our family experienced the back to the USA culture shock.
Btw Where is the link for the declutter vid before traveling abroad you spoke of?
It's here: Decluttering to Move Abroad ruclips.net/video/l8ygyRthxC8/видео.html
Praying for you 🙏🏾
First time watching this video. (2-3-2024) Enjoy yourself going back to the US. Enjoyable.🤣
I would like to hear about culture shock from South Africa. Thank you.
I'm surprised that its not loud in the restaurants. What happens if someone else needs the table?
They get told there isn't a table or they can wait 🤷🏽♀️
Hello dear, nice information love all ur your video ,please how can I do to visit Mexico , I am working in UAE .
Imagine if this was true 3 years ago this increases by the day. I traveled and lived Europe and us and Mexico is special and home of good people
Hope you enjoy Florida 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
I once visited LA and my brothe who I was visiting at the time needed the car, so I just went for a stroll down the street (residential). No more than 5 minutes in, police car stops and 2 policemen come up to me and say someone called police because they saw suspicious activity (me walking on public sidewalk). I had to explain I am from Europe and just went for a walk. They looked at each other not understanding, they asked me where is my dog (if you walk, it must be walking dog situation only) LOL It was super weird.
I’m from L.A. and that’s just the culture and the culture of a lot of cities in the states. Great place to visit tho 🤭
Welcome back. Safe travels home. You may have to invest in some earplugs. Lol.
Hi! Great channel. Thanks for all you do. Do you need to know/speak a lot of Spanish to live in Mexico?
I'd say if you want to live in Mexico, you need to learn Spanish when you get down there. But for visits / not conducting business, English is spoken in the areas popular with Americans and Canadians. I speak Spanish on the level of a 2 year old, and that's been enough for me to do what I need to do.
@@StephaniePerry You’re awesome! Thank you! Lol! I took Spanish in high school and college. If you don’t us it…you definitely lose it. I picked it back up last year. I can read it better than I can speak or understand it. I’ll get there. 😀
What about switching from speaking Spanish to English?
She doesn't speak Spanish more than a bit I think she said.
I will be going to Mexico in three months looking forward most blacks says they r treated nicely and respect Ed bib up Mexico big up
Question: Where in America do you have problems walking out of the store without a receipt??
