I just ordered the 4 pin tester. I put this exact wiring kit in our rav4 and hooked up to a trailer to see, tail lights work, left turn signal works, right signal and right brake doesnt light up. Hopefully its on the trailer end. Otherwise a great product.
If you put the tester on and it is not working on the vehicle side, check the ground to be sure that it is a clean, solid ground. Typically, that is the issue if you are having partial lighting function.
NOT A DIY PROJECT unless you have a LIFT. I've installed light kits before for my Honda Element and it was a snap. Not so with the RAV4. You have to remove a lot of panels and then run a power line from the rear of the car to the front. Unless you have a lift this is very difficult to do correctly. Just pay someone to install the lights. Taking off all the panels and putting them back was a PITA.
We have heard of people completing this installation with the vehicle being on the ground or ramps. It is a little tighter to get it installed but it is possible. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Tekonsha/118578.html
That’s a lousy answer since you have a lift. Why don’t you try it without a lift. Mostly helpful video but you should warn DIYers that they need to run this line first and that they will likely need a lift
Thanks a lot! After watching this video, I was able to do all the work in 2 hours, saving over $100. You're awesome!
Good stuff
We're glad you liked it, thanks for watching!
