Still, 2020, and for me, after driving many many cars...probably one of the best cars ever...no modern turbo car gets closer to the instant response this engine is capable to deliver
Great video . I love the Mercedes SL series . I've owned many Mercedes. And now own three SL's. I've been thinking for some time of getting a Ferrari. I believe I'm going to stay with the Mercedes and buy the Mercedes SLS.
Really like your reviews. Great presentation and driving: I'm just sad about the misogynistic comments you have to endure. I'd rather watch this than Mr Clarkson.
Cars have become similar in design, such as Ferrari Lamborghini McLaren, while Mercedes sls is different And the second thing is that without problems I own it since 2012 and I will not get bored of it and the strange thing is that its price is constantly rising
@Idoloish I don't know what planet you live on but Jaguar did the major part in designing a modern "Ford V8", and the all-Jaguar V8 ended up in the Lincolln LS and the Ford Thunderbird. Chrysler used Mercedes engines, the Chrysler Crossfire for instance. As for GM, a lot of their lower end cars were designed by Opel in Germany and just given a Cadillac/Pontiac/whatever tag. The original Corvette ZR-1 used a V8 (LT-5) designed entirely by Lotus, which at the time was owned by GM.
@wilf81 Its a closed test track with many miles of A and B road style width track/lanes, think its called Millbrook cant remeber where it is but many many car companys use it and top gear have a few times too!
@7GolfAlpha Americans don't use engines from Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, or any other European engine in their cars. They do, however, use Japanese and Japanese derived engines. Europe on the other hand has cars that use Japanese and American motors, or motors derived from Jap and American motors. In other words, Japan makes better motors than America, while America makes better engines than Europe. Or were you commenting on exhaust notes?
£4.46/mile in just fuel & depreciation. I wonder what it would cost if maintenance, tags, taxes, & insurance were added. With what this car cost in 6 months you could own & operate a relatively luxurious late model vehicle.
@CYKBC Its actually a 6,8 and has very little in common with the C63, E63 etc. as for the sound of it its all about taste, sure ill prefer a long legged V12 from a ferrari or aston martin but there is something absolutely guttwrenchingly awesome with the sound and power in a big V8. when in in the mood ill take the brutality of the 6,8 over boring refined V12´s.
@CYKBC Those "unrefined American muscle cars" actually have better engines than European cars. As for the Merc's exhaust note, kudos to Mercedes-Benz. They're one of the few European automakers (if not the only one) that makes a car that sounds like a car; not a car that sounds like a leaf blower or a vacuum.
19.8 miles to the gallon? Some how I really really doubt that any mercedes v8, let alone an AMG v8, can do that. But otherwise, nice car to have for 6 months.
Some people should really think about what they are posting in the comments... Being anonymous on the Internet doesn't mean that you absolutely have to say every ridiculously rude thing that springs to your mind. I honestly don't know what your problem is with her. She drifts the car and has some good and emotional points to say about it. Go back to looking at naked women lying on cars. Perhaps that's the kind of car journalism more suited for you...
@robvlob well in a realistic world, if you can afford a 180k car like the SLS, you won't exactly be sweating over money. Only stupid people buy cars which they can't afford (eg. struggle to pay insurance and taxes, struggle to maintain and pay off the car). They are just living above their means.
I agree with you that people on the internet are more interested in making shocking statements that garner interests rather that trying to make their point intelligently. However, you must admit compared to some very good and personable automotive journalists (steve sutcliff,chris harris, wouter of autoblog.nl, some of the guys at autoexpress and etc.) she's just fairly terrible.
@thedawg666 thedawg666: "I don't know anything about American cars." And it shows. How about naming specific American cars that use European engines? HINT: Cars like the Ford Focus are not American.
Question: Is she sliding the car, or some other driver ? Why not show it from inside... but like her, she can drive i think.... And her hands "over" wheel - she only cruises, while talking and then comes to video-cuts of fast driven car ) NP.
@aethrus I haven't been that decent in my comments in the past myself when I comes to this particular presenter. It's not a sexist issue, I like 5th Gear's Vicky Henderson-Butler, but this comes across as if Autocar insists on having a female host. What's wrong with this host? She has an unpleasant sounding, monotone voice. And for that reason alone, I'm more focussed on how she says things than what she actually says. Maybe she's an excellent magazine reporter, but it doesn't work on screen.
@Idoloish Lol americans make better engines than america, good joke . America does use european engines , some of the dodges come with FIAT twin air engines

That's one hell of a piece of art in sheet metal form.
Perfect shape,engine,stand out over any other car from its age and over.
A car that can make the driver laugh when flooring it,even after driving it for 6 months will always get an A+ in my book.
Thanks so much, we're considering buying this car, and now you've made us lean on the SLS more, I think this is the car we're going to pick up.
Really like your reviews. Great presentation and driving: I'm just sad about the misogynistic comments you have to endure. I'd rather watch this than Mr Clarkson.
I'm in love with that car. Each day more.
I love the people that are jealous a woman is able to test, drive and drift with a dreamcar they will never get in their lives ^^
6.2 v8 sounds fantastic

This video proves that the sls amg is the best all round car. It has the performance and it is relatively practical. :D
Don't be afraid of that wheel, it won't bite, just grab it properly.
I wish I had the money to buy one !
Sweet ride, I'll will take mine in black...........and a manual if available.
Great car and review, thanks
@Idoloish

Where is this test road that Autocar seem to use all the time and is always in Fifth Gear?
she doesn't even no how to hold the steering wheel. besides that the sound is absolutely intoxicating and i fucking love it

@jonathanstensberg 6208 cc actually ;)
@DualofChaos UK, not US gallons
@jeyendeoso it's part of the music
What this video sadly omits is how much this beast actually drinks. Any figures? I wuold really like to know
how did she get out of the kitchen?
@CYKBC

I want her job sooooooooooo badly!!!
@mainlymusicman We do, she's let the side down badly though.
@LilProveInn That's like comparing a toilet to a loaf of bread. They're completely different cars.
@jeyendeoso I also hear that annoying high pitch noise at 2:30 don't you?
theyve got her on a `long-term test ride`!!!!!! she goes back soon! maybe they`ll report the long term `ownership propersition` on her !!!
@LilProveInn Never said you couldn't, I was just saying it's a bit of an unfair comparison.

does this mean i should buy it for my car of the month? lol

Matt brown really?
Please please please learn to hold the steering wheel properly!
242 miles a tank.
"Ownership proposition". Any need to really say that three times?!
@ellomirza I know. I picture a fish.
it is a way bigger car than the m3 ^^
@dailyforman Sounds like someone's butthurt about not having the very competent reviewer's job. She beats Clarkson and his mates' schtick.
@thedawg666
thedawg666: "I don't know anything about American cars."

Question: Is she sliding the car, or some other driver ? Why not show it from inside... but like her, she can drive i think.... And her hands "over" wheel - she only cruises, while talking and then comes to video-cuts of fast driven car ) NP.
I know I'm late, but 2:52 should be her drifting it.
If you gotta ask that, you can't afford it!
@StuRaz sorry i dont follow..?
Can she drive going on wrong side of road all the time ahhhhhh
@aethrus I haven't been that decent in my comments in the past myself when I comes to this particular presenter. The woman ruins it so bad !
Sorry, but car + women review will never work. I feel like I am watching microwave review..
there's only 1 chic that can do car review. Vicki Butler Henderson. She is not her and she's irritating.
@Idoloish Lol americans make better engines than america, good joke . America does use european engines , some of the dodges come with FIAT twin air engines
