Good thing Itsuno's too busy working on Dragon's Dogma currently to even think of starting on DMC 6. This also means there's a chance for them to draw elements from Hi Fi Rush at the very start of the development.
Hi-fi actually reminded me about a game that came out, like, half a year ago, called "Soulstice" It was basically DMC-like in the style of Berserk/Demon's Souls. It wasn't as good as Hi-Fi because of some camera problems and wierd default controls, but i realized that nobody really talked about it, even though it was a descent game imo. I agree about the platinum part. I dig that how they like to add different gameplay parts in their games but they always end up being too long or too frequent. They should make them much shorter and less frequent or just make them separate mini games accessible outside of the main game. With these kinds of games people just wanna fight. At least most of the time
52:18 The people who made this possible are using black magic. I'd be content on making a game that looks like Megaman Legends, but if people have found ways to take it up several notches... That is just amazing to know.
there is an option for low latency monitors it's under gameplay, but there's nothing for higher latency. It's just a straight on off for low latency mode. Could still do with a proper latency adjuster but there's not nothing
Wow, didn't expect Woolie to go for FF9 as his next FF. That would've been my recommendation after 6 as a good followup, but I wasn't expecting that trajectory. Was expecting 7 next because popular.
Streamer mode is definitely very good, that's a lot more effort than those usually get (with muting the music or public domain stuff) If you listen to game OST and licensed versions back to back though you notice that they are kinda the same songs with different lyrics (if there are any) and tiny change-ups in instrumentation and vocals, even with same intermissions and shit, right to the point where original music feels like alien covers of licensed songs from parallel dimension, which kinda makes me a bit less into it. At the same time I don't think there was any other way to solve that in a game like this, where everything is synchronized to licensed music. If they do a sequel at some point I hope they just invite vocalists to sing to their original music, like Hellsinger did.
Side note: The 3rd Rock Tipping System is horribly dehumanizing and if anyone ever did that to me, not only would it NOT be funny but I would spit and tell them to keep the money to buy a real game, cuz I'm not playing. Super fucked up.
I beat it just barely on normal mode and only by ignoring all fancy combos and investing all my gears into health upgrades and abuse of the energy drink heal super move. Fucking loved playing it but by god i suck hot dogshit at it. Never once cracked the 60% accuracy rating across an entire level.
Really surprised Woolie went with the "3rd Rock Tipping System" and didn't just say "boxing round scoring" which is essentially the same thing. At the start of each round both boxers start with 10 out of 10 points and by the end of the round, points get deducted based on performance and other factors.
Takes me back to what triple A game of the mid 2000s〜early 2010s would be before the open-world takeover? Although I think I would really like it, the fun corniness just doesn't vibe with me. An ADVENTURE TIME version of this would be right on the money for me though 👌😆
More like early 2000s - mid 2000s. Early 2010s was the open world takeover/“we can’t realistically make an hd game that runs at 30fps, so here’s a game at 576p running at sub 20fps with basically no action based gameplay to compensate. It’s cinematic like this so you’ll be ok with it.”
You unlock Level Select once you finish the game. You can go back and get the stuff you missed, try the level on a different difficulty, or find secrets that weren't accessible before. There's a post-game story that involves returning to the previous levels.
Its kind of funny how not too long ago people were harping on Forspoken for the Whedonism dialogue, but this game is praised for it despite it being everywhere. Just goes to show what a flashy art style and leaning more into the cartoony nature can do for audience perception and enjoyment!
The game is also entirely sincere with its plot and characters. It's cheesy and over the top, but the characters treat the situation like it affects their lives, because it does. They save most of the jokey dialogue for side stuff, like the gears=money mechanic and the hidden doors in the levels.
I don't agree with that categorization. Whedon dialogue is not the same as cheesy/goofy dialogue. The former is always superficial and exudes an aura of cynicism, whilst the latter - if done well - can be very charming and still emotionally resonate with the audience.
The best part is that this feels like a game that everyone had in their head but never happened yet now we’re here, it’s free for many people, dropped instantly and absolutely met the expectations of many people’s imaginations

I agree about the platinum part. I dig that how they like to add different gameplay parts in their games but they always end up being too long or too frequent. They should make them much shorter and less frequent or just make them separate mini games accessible outside of the main game. With these kinds of games people just wanna fight. At least most of the time
Its Godhand May Cry with Phoenix Wright characters and I'm all here for it.
"Rhythm Nero?" You mean, _"Devil May Dance?"_
52:18 The people who made this possible are using black magic. I'd be content on making a game that looks like Megaman Legends, but if people have found ways to take it up several notches... That is just amazing to know.
*woolie plays game for an hour*
"This is the best game ever!"
there is an option for low latency monitors it's under gameplay, but there's nothing for higher latency. It's just a straight on off for low latency mode. Could still do with a proper latency adjuster but there's not nothing
No Straight Roads walked so Hi-Fi Rush could run.
Hi Fi Rush is so good... it reminds me of the games of eld and gives me the good feels.
Pat is correct. Play with streamer mode until the last 2 levels then switch it off. That is the best experience.
*3 levels.
Invaders Must Die is MANDATORY
When it rains it pours.
I was on the fence about getting this game. I had to buy it during this video.
Wow, didn't expect Woolie to go for FF9 as his next FF. That would've been my recommendation after 6 as a good followup, but I wasn't expecting that trajectory. Was expecting 7 next because popular.
808 in Japanese is pronounced Ya-Oh-Ya, like lyrics in a rock song. That's a triple pun.
Streamer mode is definitely very good, that's a lot more effort than those usually get (with muting the music or public domain stuff)
If you listen to game OST and licensed versions back to back though you notice that they are kinda the same songs with different lyrics (if there are any) and tiny change-ups in instrumentation and vocals, even with same intermissions and shit, right to the point where original music feels like alien covers of licensed songs from parallel dimension, which kinda makes me a bit less into it.
At the same time I don't think there was any other way to solve that in a game like this, where everything is synchronized to licensed music. If they do a sequel at some point I hope they just invite vocalists to sing to their original music, like Hellsinger did.
Just by the style I'm getting serious Storm Hawks vibe.
I think Chai should be a red-head to match the orange enemies.
bro I've never gotten more hype about the GDC talk (that's hopefully coming) than the one for Guilty Gear Xrd.
Side note: The 3rd Rock Tipping System is horribly dehumanizing and if anyone ever did that to me, not only would it NOT be funny but I would spit and tell them to keep the money to buy a real game, cuz I'm not playing.
Super fucked up.
I knew what you were referencing Pat, don't worry, you were playing to at least an audience of 1.
A great contender for game of year, i suppose
AAAAAI SUPPOSE 👏👏🐒
having NUMBER GIRL on the soundtrack alone got my eyes on the game
Jumping jack flash is a great song, that is all .
CSB clips? AN HOUR LONG CLIP? nice.
Hi Fi rush is one of those games I'm sure I would love if I didn't have the rhythm sense of a sloth and the parry skills too match
Still waiting Woolie's reaction to the SF6 footage, feels like everybody and their mom have reacted to it before him
Did i hear FF9? As in final fantasy 9?
Just had the thought:
No More Heroes -> Ho More Neros
This is the only time I've ever wanted an xbox
It's been awhile since a Real good game that everyone can agree on.
Good game , will definitely recommend to others !
At the start of each round both boxers start with 10 out of 10 points and by the end of the round, points get deducted based on performance and other factors.
what if No Straight Roads was made by arksys
Wait I have been playing on double hard mode on xbox?
Nah
So is Hi Fi Rush basically No Straight Roads but more focus on the gameplay rather than the music?
if so then fuck yeah.
No level selection is terrible, especially when some missable collectibles are combat moves.
You unlock Level Select once you finish the game. You can go back and get the stuff you missed, try the level on a different difficulty, or find secrets that weren't accessible before. There's a post-game story that involves returning to the previous levels.
There is, but you gotta beat the game to unlock it
And yet with all the aids to help, DSP cannot play this for his life lol
