Located just over the Lancashire border, this Arnside Knott walk features sand, sea and the best seat in the house, up on the summit. A popular destination for dog walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.
I believe Arnside is a true hidden gem, with most visitors to the North West heading straight for the Lake District - here, you get to avoid the crowds and enjoy a peaceful coastal walk which offers a little bit of everything.

Thanks for watching! If you're looking to follow the same walk route around the coast of Arnside, follow this link to my website: lancashirelads.life/arnside-knott-cumbria-6-mile-walk
@@LancashireLadWalks cheers for that !
Have you had a walk are Gait Barrow, it's on the back road between Silverdale and Arnside. Nice walk, check it out.
@@johnbarker7129I have, but must confess, not fully explored that area. Ive walked the fairy steps lots on the other side too. Will definitely go and check it out now though, thanks for the recommendation.
Love Arnside, I'm 72 from Manchester and have made quite a few visits, just a nice place to visit.
Ah this is lovely to hear. I hope to visit many times more throughout my adult life as well.
Thanks for the trip down memory lame! Spent most of my childhood in Arnside with many, many happy days sailing small boats on that very beach, great video mate!
Thanks Gareth, wow I would have loved to have spent my childhood playing on the beaches here. Arnside is a now a special place to me & my family, hope to bring little ones here myself someday. Thanks for sharing your story with me 🙏🏻
Always on the lookout for new landscapes to photograph, thanks for this, BTW cute dog.
thanks Malcolm, yes Henry is fab isn't he! Will do my best to share him some more on this channel
My cousin lived in Arnside from many years before her sad death. I and my wife visited her on many occasions. One thing I did learn was the speed of the Arnside bore and how dangerous the sands can be. Take note of the warning notices, they aren’t there for fun. Be safe and enjoy the natural wonders of nature. 4:22
You inspire this old couple to get back out there. I'm glad we found your channel and I feel so uncomfortable too when it comes to photography. I'm very new and no confidence with it but I'm going to keep trying. Beautiful video. You did a fantastic job. Website is also professional and helpful. Thanks again!
Hi, oh this is wonderful to hear, thank you for such kind words. Glad I can be a source of inspiration, even though I'm still learning about photography and film making too. Hoping to get out and film more through 2024. Hopefully you're subscribed as I'd love your feedback throughout! 👏🏼👏🏼
I love Arnside, great views from Arnside Knott. Glad Henry is doing ok.
spectacular views indeed! Thanks, Henry is a lil star, never once sulked after his op bless him.
Watching right now on the telly. Brilliant video. Looks like a lovely place… might have to check out the maps for that chippy 😊
fantastic! Yes you should get there sometime. Chippy by the sea, can't beat it 👌
@@LancashireLadWalks btw as for the photography, you’re doing superb with the bokeh dog pics!!! Landscape photos also quite good but you’re right about the framing, take your time. Everyone has a camera today & nobody is looking at ya ;) (i used to feel the same way!). Crack on and enjoy :)
Just found your channel and subscribed. We haven't visited Arnside before. Looks like we will have to have a weekend in the van there now. Brilliant place for our dogs too. Thanks.
Hi, oh that's superb, Ive done my bit for putting Arnside on the map then :) enjoy!! Thank you for the support. Tom x
Just round the coast from me. Nice sea front and mini 'pier'. Always nice if you catch the train coming across the bridge. Good chippy too. Best wishes.
I must hop on that train sometime. I just love spending time on that coastal front. Walking all the way down towards Silverdale.
You have a new subscriber my friend! As for the composition, yes I think you're probably right.. A few more of those branches would've framed the shot better, but you live and learn as they say. Just keep going and you'll learn more and more as time goes on. I've been doing photography for about six years now, and I literally learnt everything I now know on RUclips!
Henry is a little smasher, by the way! We used to have a Cavelier King Charles. They are wonderful little dogs!
RUclips is awesome for learning, I know I should probably do more study, although Id take even longer on my walks Im guessing haha! Thanks for the feedback Ash, sounds like you are on your own photography journey there. Henry is a star isnt he 🥰 aim to include him a lot more throughout the year. Cavaliers are wonderful indeed! 🐶🙏🏻
Will definitely be visiting ,thanks for sharing !
🙌🙌
Whereas Arnside is no doubt in a beautiful area I must comment as a local about the perception here of it being an unknown and tranquil backwater. At the risk of seeming over negative, in the summer months I can attest from personal experience that Arnside is somewhere to avoid due to it being overcrowded, even Heaving. You will struggle to find a parking space, the award winning chippy has a long and seemingly permanent queue and be prepared to stand if you fancy a pint. Other problems include the local train service being on its knees and totally unreliable, visitors being advised to be very mindful on the shore due to quicksand, and the tidal bore danger requires Arnside to have its own rescue station.
My advice to visitors would be to visit outside the peak tourist season when it can be appreciated to the full.
Brilliant advice & your insight is very much appreciated. The area is certainly well known by many, I think its more aimed at those who head straight for the Lakes, never knowing of little havens such as Arnside.
Great video will visit I hope 👌what's the breed of your dog he's a character! I love Lancashire great video 👌
Cheers Simon! Henry is a King Charles Cavalier. Yes you must get to Arnside sometime ❤️🙏🏻
Loved your video ... we'll done. I will definitely do the walk soon. As a matter of interest what is the distance? Thanks again
thanks!! The route is 6 miles, you can find it via the link in the description :)
Had a static on holgates for 15 years, really love Silverdale and Arnside
would LOVE that!
Used to go camping there in the 1970’s!
wowza, Lakes will have changed a lot since the 70's!
Love Arnside, but maybe keep it a secret?
haha I don't think its much of a secret location to be honest, the thumbnail is only to catch the eye... the location sells itself doesn't it, love Arnside ❤️🙏🏻
A good video, I think most people head for Grange Over Sands, Hope Henry is still doing OK
🙏🏻🙏🏻 Hen is doing well thanks. Yea Grange Over Sands is much closer to the Lakes, so will attract wanderers I suppose, but this side of the Kent Estuary is really nice. Arnside & Silverdale ❤️🙏🏻
First time watching and really enjoyed. Keep plugging away with the photography all of a sudden it'll become second nature. It's a double whammy with a dog and photography, both great ways to meet people. Try a waist belt lead thing for your pooch it'll leave your hands free to shoot 😁
good shout regarding a waist belt! 🙏🏻 Yea, I think I'm getting better with the confidence to do photography whilst others are around. Thanks for the fantastic feedback, means a lot. Regards, Tom
I live nearby , I was once accused of not being local because I wasn’t born there ! I’ve lived in Morecambe and WARTON since 1952 . I bet I’ve been up Arnside Knott more times than some of the locals …….anyway , everything is Ok , it’s lovely to be living round the shores of Morecambe Bay ! cheers 😊
haha that's a funny story! You're certainly local (enough 😉) for me David! What a lovely place to go walking on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing! Tom
Hi ,great video.
Just got back from a few days in the Lakes and I was wondering do you know any spots probably an hour or so from Liverpool (kids get a bit lively after a bit😂)?
Many thanks.
Thanks! I'd say, lots to see in Forest of Bowland, youve got the Peak District not too far from you as well. Or have a look at some of the short walks in Lancashire listed on my website; www.lancashirelads.life
Thank goodness you have not found "the " hidden gem of the Lake District. Its so because thankfully few know about it.
So many "hidden gems" 😝 can't possibly know & visit them all right?! 😉
Not too bad 😜👍
In the Dictionary under Wonderful, There was a link to this...xx
🥹🙏🏻 Thanks!
It heaves with people visiting. Maybe southerners have never heard of it, but midlanders and northerners certainly have.
Used to deliver goods to arnside and local area, phone would go,yes boss, how long u gunna be tone, could be hours boss, road works terrible traffic usual, OK do your best, get back when u can.Back to the wall overlooking the estuary, flask, sarnies what a beautiful area that is,go see it.
🤣🤣 Brilliant! Not a bad spot for a break.
I know what you mean about the photography thing. But most people and their dogs are doing the same. I am a fan of Arnside and Silverdale but shh! We don't want all folk going there!
I think for the most part, we are all taking photos, agreed. I do wish to take mine to a slightly higher standard (eg long exposure shots etc), but it'll test Henry's patience, and mine... 🤪 Haha yes will try to not promote these areas too much 😉
Lancashire truly is God's country ✨
🙏🏻 It certainly is. Hoping to help drive more visitors to our beautiful county.
@@LancashireLadWalks I wish you luck with visitors and unending happiness. I hope to make it over there again soon 🍀👍🏻
Lancashire is….but this is in Cumbria!
@@Baywalker5017 oof. I must have been thinking Lancashire as I was typing this 🤔
Henry is such a gorgeous boy!
🥰🥰
A nice showcase of Arnside and the surrounding area, but your description of it being a "Secret Spot" is way off the mark. In Summer it is "heaving" and there are still may hardy visitors in Winter. Even today (a bit wet) there are plenty of cars parked on the promenade (viewable via the webcam). Arnside Knott is extremely popular and not necessarily the best viewpoint in the immediate area (that is a "Secret Spot"!)
Thanks for the feedback Michael. It's certainly not a secret to most local to the area, but Im more addressing those who shoot straight up to the Lakes yet can't scramble to mountains to fully enjoy it really. Arnside is such a lovely place. Go there often.
❤
I don’t like the Lake District
The area is depressing to me, with the skyline being robbed. Not enough sky.
This looks more like my thing.
I love Yorkshire & Northumberland.
Your photo! I would have tried portrait to include the branches rather than landscape.
ohh good tip suggesting portrait!
The Lakes is rather stunning if you ask me, but its nice to visit alternative locations like Arnside. Thanks for sharing your thoughts 🙏🏻
@@LancashireLadWalks
I prefer open skys, not the claustrophobia of the lake, plus like the Peak District the lakes are way too busy for me.
Each to their own.
Don’t pay attention to other people they’re less interested than you think. As to photography think about composition, ratio of land to sky, contrast so where are the shadow where is the sun and what’s your subject. There are lots of beautiful scenes but when you take the photo it doesn’t look very interesting. So composition what do you want in the picture and where in the frame? Light how does that affect the subject? Sky/sea/land how much of each?
Brilliant feedback! Thanks for this. I think I could also try doing some more portrait shots, vs pure wide landscape. Will keep working on it. Felt it was much easier photographing the Lake District scenes (featured in my most recent video).
