In todays walk film from the fells, we climb Pendle Hill, completing the popular pendle hill circular walk. Known for it's connection to the Pendle Witches, this historic route will have you spellbound with all it's stunning views from up high and down the backside of the valley.
Superb for landscape photographers and hikers alike.
Find the walk route on my website at www.lancashirelad.com

We did this circuit a few years ago it was so nice and only bumped into two people on the way round once away from trigg . We went across the field from woods but had a bit of road walking at the end but was still very good . Thanks for this 👍
That was my experience too, very peaceful on the back end. Seems daft considering the number of people seen up at the trig. Can't complain though, quiet is quite nice!
Around 1990 I climbed Pendle, together with my then partner and two daughters, via the steep path. Fortunately it was a quiet day and I was able to park close to Pendleside Farm without obstructing others. I was in my late 30's, and carried my nine year old stepdaughter on my shoulders for about half of the ascent. It was a bright sunny day and the views were spectacular in all directions. Unfortunately I've never had an opportunity to do it again.
🙏🏻 Appreciate you sharing your story Phil. Pendle holds a special place to a lot of folk I've realised after sharing this film from the fells.
Thanks for your support. Tom
Great video matey with great photography, I love it up there. My circuit starts at Worston heading to nick on Pendle which I find the valley stunning then up to the summit and head down towards the lovely village of Downham. Yep, never used that well but found it. Take care fella
ohh dont mind the pub at Worston, Calfs head 🍺 Sounds a cracking ramble, yet to do that route from there. on the list 👍 cheers for the feedback!
The first time I climbed Pendle was in the early 1950s it was Midsummers Day and I walked in a blizzard at the summit!
The last time was just pre Covid. On that occasion it was February with a light covering of snow. I was amazed to see the differences, the very deep heather tussocks which covered the entire top had virtually all disappeared leaving a very different appearance. Back in the ‘50s there were no paths from the Nick leading to the summit.
Keith this is just wonderful to hear. Thank you for sharing. I can only imagine just how much this place has changed over the years. Those trails over the very tops must have looked completely different vs the 50's.
The Forest of Bowland have spent a lot trying to fix issues with the peat up there it seems.
Ps. hiking Pendle in a blizzard would be a no go for a fair weather hiker with cameras like myself haha!
Good to walk up from Nick O Pendle too. Usually quieter from that side
Yes its certainly quieter. Nice ramble from that end.
It's a great hike, we did it last year (watch the video 😊) but the weather turned so we couldn't complete the circular. We are going to do it again in the coming months. Great channel, just subscribed.
Hi, yes you'll have to have another go :) Great walk! Thank you for the support, Tom
I walked Pendle Hill from Barley. By the reservoir stunning hill. Lovely video
its one of the best in the North West for sure. Thanks for the lovely feedback Jennifer x
WOW.. just found this, 20 years ago i used to pop up there after my tea.. walked it many many times.. now living in Canada this was a treat to watch ATB man, thanks for the upload.. I subscribed to watch more.. hope you have taken to walking the Lakes too.. thanks again TC 👍🙏
Hi Kenny, thanks for sharing, loved hearing your story & connection with Pendle Hill. Wish I could just pop up there after my tea!
Thank you for your support, yes definitely more walk films to come, including one or two in the Lakes :)
In fact I do have a few Lakes walks already on my channel. You can find the first in my mini series from last March here 🎥 ruclips.net/video/dvxpvhyiwy4/видео.html
Enjoy! Cheers, Tom
Hiya Tom, great to see you and and lovely to see Henry in his skimpy Summer outfit
Hi Keith, haha thanks, Henry is doing well. Full of beans, ready for another run at proper spring & summer walks. We did a few over autumn / winter as well. Films to follow soon.
Watching this makes me want to go! Not been for so long. Great video!
Yes, you should get there sometime! Remember, lots of ways to climb it as well :)
Thanks for the video. It brings back some fond memories the fun time at Lancaster University. Cheers :)
Thanks for sharing! Pendle will forever hold a special place for me too.
There is little to no mobile reception in areas of Barley 😅 Not a bad thing some might say but something for visitors to be aware of😊
That's true. Saying that, lots of folk around even though fairly remote, never too far from civilisation.
Pendle hill is so stunning I am so lucky to see it every day.
Very lucky :) I can see it from higher ground locally, but would love to have it out my back window.
Thanks for posting this. Pendle Hill has been on my list for a couple of years now. I normally study a few posts to work out a route I like the look of. I normally prefer the steeper paths on the way back down. I managed Pen-y-Ghent easily last June. But I haven't yet studied the routes on Pendle Hill. Sometimes I prefer coming down the same route as I went up. I'm 75 five years old and so not going to set any records, I like to take in the views along the way. Seven or eight miles is okay for me and pubs at the end of the walk... whats not to like. Thanks for posting
Hello, oh you're most welcome :) I too prefer to study routes before heading there. Even then best to be catious and not take too many risks like you say. Protect those knees!
Pen-Y-Ghent is really good going though! Love that walk. You'll manage Pendle well, just got the steps to content with, and a short scramble down into the valley at the back end into ogden clough. not too much trouble Id think if you've navigated Pen-Y-Ghent.
Thanks for the support. Tom
What a gorgeous dog.
🙏🏻 thanks! He's a little stunner I know. Deserves more airtime 🥰
It's a bloody steep pull that up onto Pendle Hill.😮makes your heart beat ten to the dozen! Great vlog 👍 🎉
thanks David, I found it rather easy to be honest... 😜🥵 was shocked when that kid ran past me, but these youngsters need to learn to pace themselves haha
@@LancashireLadWalks yeah, they run past me to, like I'm not moving 😀
Look at Pendle from my kitchen window. I normally do the Nick route just to avoid that steep climb. Last time I went from Barley it was an honesty box for parking with a well deserved brew and a cake in the cafe afterwards.
haha times have changed I guess! Ah its such a cracking walk over from Nick of Pendle. Totally different experience of the hill. Thanks for sharing Peter :)
Love this route. I usually do it in reverse😀
good idea! 👌 Not keen on those steps on the knees mind you.
@LancashireLadWalks Yes, sometimes going down can be harder than going up on the knees. Pendle is great, though, such a variety of terrain and scenery across the whole area.
Enjoyed that, thank you.
Appreciate the feedback Jonathan! Pendle is a cracker of a walk.
I climbed pendle on the Witch Walk and another time up the challenging steps wearing a black velvet ballgown with a tight boned bodice! I was totally breathless but elated by the time I reached the summit. Pendle hill is just 51 metres short of being a mountain. An achievement for anyone who climbs it
it certainly feels like a mountain on that initial climb. Wow sounds like quite the experience you had there!!
No black fishnet stockings then.. 😅
❤Love Our Pendle Hill ❤ I've Walked it numerous times, all over xXx
sounds like you're a regular. If only it was right on my doorstep, I'd be up there a lot more :)
I prefer the Ogden reservors and the follow Ogden clough route not as busy as the big end...but dont tell everbody🤫
oops, may have just done that with this film! Its stunning down that way.
great video♥ How long did it take you to do the full 7 mile ? I want to do this walk in April this year. Thanks
Hi, oh to be honest it took me a while because of the filming that day, but in all honesty, a few hours should be about right.
@@LancashireLadWalks Thanks for the reply♥
Did this in 50mph winds and snow last year. Gnarly
Woah haha!! Madness. Does get the weather does Pendle.
@LancashireLadWalks bit silly really but we had a laugh 😃
Has anyone ever jogged this route?
absolutely, yes! maybe the last bit would be left off, just follow the road back to Barley past the reservoirs.
@ 👍
Yes, I'm sure there's a fell runners club too xXx
