Same happened to watergrove village,Wardle
This is a walk I've also put off for far too long. I've had the route mapped for about 4 years, so thanks for posting and reminding me. I did walk part of it about 40 years ago, so I know it's worth doing. I'm also competitive with other walkers. At one time I would try and catch-up walkers. Those days have long passed, and I try not to be caught up nowadays. I'm 6'2'' with long legs, now I am doing more urban walks, I sometimes get overtaken by short women who need two steps for one of mine. I must avoid city centre transport areas and commuters! Can you please post the temperate rain forest video? I'm very interested in that, and I can recommend the northern lower slopes of Bowland. Try the valleys between Ward's Stone and Caton Moor (Littledale and Mallowdale).
Yes Nick, you must get it done sometime. Haha nice to know I'm not the only one with being competitive! Sure, the temperate rainforest film I first saw was this regarding Scotland, really intrigued me. ruclips.net/video/0x-WUKT5hUo/видео.htmlsi=BeNk2UPEmQNhkrIc There are others about the temperate rainforest down south as well. Fascinating! Ive been up to Wards Stone in heavy snowfall once, not the wisest decision at the time! Not done Caton Moor however, thanks.
Another one to add to my local must do walks. Thanks.
fantastic! Thanks for the feedback Peter, this walk does sell itself mind you.
Great Lancashire walk! Lovely time of year!👍🏻
🙌 we didn't have the longest summer this year, but the odd day was pure bliss!
Close the Greater Manchester? It is in Greater Manchester!
Absolutely it is! I was meaning more near the busy towns & cities really.
Aint that the truth.
I live in formby
Absolutely beautiful, wish I was there with you.
Great Film of one of our favourite places to walk. you have captured everything in a great production. well done and look forward to more of your walks.
Thanks a lot John, really appreciate the feedback. Definitely got a few more adventures lined up. Watch this space. Tom
Hi, any walks near Heysham? I live on the outskirts of Blackpool, but, just love the countryside , your channel is brilliant, just getting into walking, again, Thanks for all your guided tours ❤
yes! Arnside & Silverdale are just stunning, not far from you at all. Look at 'Eaves Wood' and 'Arnside Knott' both listed walks on my website www.lancashirelad.com
There's Watergrove village beneath Watergrove Reservoir.Between Whitworth and Wardle, just east of this walk. It's a really nice and interesting area to walk.
thanks, will definitely have to look up that one as well.
Great walk that pal with some stunning scenery. I do believe not ao far from there Scammonden Reservoir was a village called Deanhead valley.
thanks Andrew! Oh ok, will take a look into that one as well.
Great video. Watergrove Reservoir, Wardle, and Haweswater in the Lake District have abandoned villages beneath them.
Thanks Debra! Yes thats it, thought it was Haweswater that id heard about having a village. Is this also the one where during dry times when the waters low, you can see tips of some buildings?
@@LancashireLadWalks Yes, it is indeed, and you can walk down through the ruins.
wow!
Funny you have uploaded today, I was literally checking your channel about where I could go today. How come you have changed it from Lads to Lad by the way?
Haha that's brilliant! What a coincidence! Hope you find something half decent to do. Id actually recommend Roddlesworth Reservoirs at the minute. stunning for autumn. I decided to start a rebrand to Lancashire Lad just to simplify the name. bit like 'Bald Hiker' who offers lots of Uk walks on his blog. Lancashire Lads Life is a bit long, and it was originally two of us doing the films. Time constraints these days has limited filming outings for me other mate. Cheers for asking though! Trying to transition things over (url / google stuff etc) with the website has proved a challenge thus far 😫!
What would you like to know about wind turbines? In terms of solving the energy crisis they can absolutely help, however the major factor behind the energy crisis is how our energy markets work here. They're run on what's called marginal pricing which means that unfortunately all energy is charged at the price of the most expensive commodity no matter how much of it is used, which at the moment is gas as this hit high level of demand with post pandemic recovery and the Ukraine war. There is a consultation called REMA that is looking to reform the electricity markets. But consultations about such things are slow. This decoupling of electricity from gas would be the biggest way to save money as solar and wind are the cheapest forms of electrical generation. It would also make heat pumps more viable, the only downside would be that high energy prices encourage generation to be installed. If you want to compare how much energy costs you can look up the "levelised cost of energy" or LCOE with organisations like the IEA. Or if you want to look at measures that include storage then LCOEssc is the term you're after.
interesting stuff Robin, will certainly do some reading. Personally, on the other hand, I'm not the biggest fan of how these turbines are installed on the land, nor the way that solar farms are being setup covering all the grass. I do think its a bit risky going all in on electricty as well, but thats just me 🤷🏻♂️ happy to be proven wrong over time I guess.
The history of Green Booth is available on t'internet. Cracking film.
Aye read up a bit, not seen much to do with the actual village however
Would be great if you did group walks.
Brilliant, love Henry ❤
he's a little love isnt he ☺️🐶
Excellent,so, please I found you ❤ Lancashire is lovely 🌹
Thanks for the inspiring video. Off to the Lakes next week and will now do this hike.
brilliant! You'll love that walk, offers a bit of everything.
Thanks for the motivation to get out on a cold soggy day. Spent a weekend on the edge of nature, it was tempting to stay indoors and keep warm, but I am so glad I went out. Great walk!
that's fantastic to hear! glad you enjoyed :) x
What a amazing place 😮
agreed! 🙌
Will definitely be visiting ,thanks for sharing !
🙌🙌
❤
Them steps are a killer, but better to go up then than go down for the knees. Love Pendle hill.
agreed! there are other routes around Pendle hill which are worth a try through the summer. Look up 'summit else forest of bowland' for walk routes 🤘🏼
Have you got an Instagram account?
Yes, recently went through a name change. @lancashirelad.walks 🤘🏼
I recognise where you are
It's been speculated that Langdon Castle is the "Dark foreboding place" described in Arthurian legend for the location of the green chapel where Gawain fought the green knight for the holy grail. It's a strange place and those arched Jamme stones in the now cattle shed are completely out of place. Besides this building is on the original track from the Ribble Valley to Lancaster where the Pendle witches will have been taken for trial. I've always though this is one of those places that needs a time team investigation. Nice walk and well worth a look. BTW - this would have been within range of JRR Tolkien when he lived nearby - and what book did he write?
fascinating!! History really does deserve more investigation, must challenge all we know and look further into things. Thanks for sharing :)
National Trust Formby is a very nice place to visit in summer. We were there last weekend: ruclips.net/user/shortsXq7ouyfjhMU?si=OjKwo_FfiAQdjnWn
Not so fun fact. The neolithic grave mound on the summit was trampled into nothingness during lockdown. It was around 4,000 years old.
Pen from ancient Brythonic, in this context meaning hill. Hyll from old English, again meaning hill. And finally hill in modern English, meaning we have a hill, hill ,hill. Somewhere along the line it aquired a D to give us Pendle hill. Apparently it was called Penhul at one point in history.
I'm thinking about doing this hike in October.....wonder if it will be cold ? I haven't lived in the UK for 30 years now so i can't really remember the weather. Nice video, thanks
its hard to say the weather is ever changeable, might be a little windy up top but it'll be worth it!
@@LancashireLadWalks Thank you
Thanks Tom. We were inspired by the video to try this walk. Beautiful summer day and a really enjoyable and varied walk
Hi, this is great to hear! Glad you enjoyed :)
Cromwells bridge.
You should just shoot the side of my terrace - it looks like a waterfall made of blooms, a flowerfall, perhaps?
sounds amazing! 👌

no way?! Class fact that!

🥹🙏🏻 Thanks!
Thanks for giving us such a great video. Loved your drone footage of the viaduct. ❤
Ah cheers Del! It's a wonderful spot is this, perfect for drone filming.
I live nearby , I was once accused of not being local because I wasn’t born there ! I’ve lived in Morecambe and WARTON since 1952 . I bet I’ve been up Arnside Knott more times than some of the locals …….anyway , everything is Ok , it’s lovely to be living round the shores of Morecambe Bay ! cheers 😊
haha that's a funny story! You're certainly local (enough 😉) for me David! What a lovely place to go walking on a regular basis. Thanks for sharing! Tom
All I can say you’ll be glad you’re not here at the moment as it’s cold, windy and rainy and has been for the last two weeks! I was sat on the beach in my hiking jacket and fleece 😂 and gutted I didn’t bring my waterproof walking pants 😵💫… currently sat watching a pea souper over the sea 🌊 ☁️ 😂 I feel for those camping as it’s supposed to be summer!
🤣 oh dear!! Just bonkers weather for July isnt it?! Hearing a lot of 'geo-engineering' chatter at the minute 🤷🏻♂️ surely we can't minipulate the weather?! 🤯 Either way, hoping for some sunshine soon.
I love your walks. Done this one a good few times now. As an extension you can throw in the Jumbles reservoir and even further extend it by taking in Cheetham Close and Affetside for a great ten miler! You got far better weather than me.
Yes, I believe Jumbles makes it an even better walk! Thanks for the feedback too :) I do try and film on dry days when we finally get them haha!
Is there a trig point at the top ??
There is one up at Fairsnape Fell, yes. There's no trig at Parlick, but there is something planted in the ground up there (featured in this video) to mark it's highest point 🤷🏻♂️
Nice one.
Just 8 mile from my home ♥️♥️
