"Welcome Capetown". Now that's a perfect choice of music! The Arundel Castle looked so much better after the renovation with the more raked bow and two new funnels replacing the original four.---I would have enjoyed being aboard when items from the ship were being given away just before scrapping!---I don't know the details but I read that there was a possibility that the Arundel Castle would have been used as the S.S. Claridon in "The Last Voyage". Reading in the description about when and were the ship was retired and scrapped, that scenario of using her in the movie sounds like a real possibility.---Interesting to see the advertising from those days, the posters give context and are works of commercial art that by themselves are noteworthy and a part of history.
Seems like a real transitional ship. Meaning that her hull design seems so to straddle the prewar schooner and post war cruiser styles. Neat to see a four funnel vessel with a cruiser stern.
This is a great video! Thank you for sharing! My great grandfather Norman Imray, was chief engineer for the Chepstow Castle cargo ship back in the 1920’s through the 1940’s in Capetown for Union Castle shipping company. Any chance you may have a video of that ship or photos you could share?
Ocean Liner designs has an awsome Documentary On four stackers. Just wish Arundel and Windsor Castle were included. I guess its becuz they later had two funnels removed Forever changing their appearance for the worst😢

Wow an astonishing 43 years of service (including construction) she should have been saved

The 1959 Look At Life film "Ticket to Tokyo" shows the Arundel Castle passing through Hong Kong en route to scrapping. Towards the end of the video.
