I have been going around and around and around on science for next year (4th grade)! I am 99.9% sure I now have a plan 👍. My son wants a physics and engineering focus and I always want a nature study/ecology component as well. So, my plan is to use Nomad Press books, the Usborne Science Encyclopedia, the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer magazine’s Young Naturalist articles along with their educator’s guides (all free online) and a science notebook. The Nomad Press books we plan to use are Backyard Biologist, Simple Machines, Makerspace and Crazy Contraptions. There are a lot of things that I love about the Nomad Press books. I was looking through Simple Machines this morning and I love how it is constantly connecting the science to history (with actual dates written as BCE/CE) and I love that the experiments and activities use easy to source supplies and seem to be (mostly) things that will actually show the science they are explaining (vs. just feeling like art projects or busywork).

I love the idea of adding in science history with science lessons! I just recently heard about Nomad Press books myself. Sounds like you have a solid plan. Wishing you all the stars aligning, fairy dust, and magic for everything to go according to plan! Thanks for sharing!

I’m planning to use Campfire along with BYL and Easy Peasy to create a Zoology unit for my Pre-K through 8th graders! We will probably add in the Sassafras Zoology ❤ I wish I could find one program that fits all my kids, all their levels and is affordable but probably looking for a unicorn 🦄

We loved RSO....but I found we never got to it. The implementation just never happened. My son is doing Science Mom Biology this year and LOVES IT! he does it totally independently and it has work pages and we supplement with the super simple Biology book from DK.

I could not be more in love with these bookshelves! They are the Hemnes Bookcases from Ikea. We have had them for around 8 years and they are still holding up great! In fact when we moved them from one room to another, we added a new case to make it a little bigger and it is really hard to tell which one is the new one. 10/10 highly recommend!
