  • Have you ever wanted to envision and illustrate a sewing project before buying the material or pattern? Well, no you can! Use pattern line drawings to make a mockup for sewing! Use pictures of fabric to place on the line drawings to plan the best placement and layout. These work great for custom creations to show clients! Or they are great for home sewing projects too!

Excellent tutorial and very clear. Going to try this on my hoodie pattern and see if I can use Affinity Designer although it still doesn’t have the trace bitmap option so will need to use Inkscape for that. I prefer to work on my iPad and Inkscape isn’t yet available for that. It is a nuisance having to switch between machines but this was super helpful. Thank you so much

Can you make a mock-up using a photo of a person wearing the garment using Inkscape?

That’s a great question! I don’t do much with those kinds of mockups, so I’m not sure I’m much help.
The process I might follow is tracing the image to get the outline of the clothing (vectorize.com might do a better job). Then, I’d try following the same process, but with only the clothing. You’d essentially be creating a “mask” over certain areas of the photo.
Again, can’t give too much advice since I haven’t tried it!
