The story was believable until the final update. That is the difference between good fiction and bad fiction. A good fiction writer knows when to stop the story. Writing that last update proves this fiction writer thinks that you can just wrap up a story, with a “happy” ending, in a few sentences. They should have just written and we all lived happily ever after to punctuate that they are a terrible writer.

For anyone watching, let’s compare this with when a bully tells “just a joke”. OP did literally tell just a joke. Olivia was hurt by this joke. It happens. And how does OP handle that? He stops joking, owns that his joke crossed a line, apologizes for any hurt he’s caused, and does what he can to undo any damage he’s caused. At no point does he double down on it being “just a joke”. Not one instance of telling her she’s too sensitive. And he doesn’t keep doing it to her.
I haven’t even listened to the rest of the video, so I don’t know how that one joke ruined his life or whatever. But this is how not-bullies handle when their jokes hit a nerve. They own it, they fix any harm done (or at least stop doing further harm), they acknowledge that jokes can hurt, and that the hurt people are fully entitled to BE hurt, and that the jokester was in the wrong, then they don’t make that joke ever again. OP’s dad is also a jokester just before this. He read the room, knew these were all people who’d be okay with his joke, and OP even agrees his joke was fine, but that other people might take the joke wrong, but he and his dad had already built up enough friendship to know where each others’ lines are, so dad felt comfortable telling the joke. And obviously, he could have judged that line wrong, like OP did. Nobody’s perfect. But when the jokester is wrong, it’s the jokester’s job to fix things. It’s not the hurt person’s job to stop being hurt.
