The Vulcan's Eye is the Westerner name. The Modocs (my grandmother was a ful l Modoc) call it Se Naj Ja which means roughly south portal because Lassen (Shotami Pokan) is the southern edge of their lands. It was a common belief that a modoc can use Se Naj Ja to transport back to the north by circling it from right to left.
