Some things I didn't mention that are being spammed right now, and I'll own up to that. Some things just get forgotten during the scripting: - Yes, I know about the inverted controls of the Gamecube version that can't be remapped. If that is a deal breaker, then please stick to either another version or just the OG Complete Works (but again, those are not in english. I'll do a menu translation video at some point). - I already alluded to the fixing of slow downs and sprite flickering, but I never directly addressed it in Miscellaneous section, which was my bad. So yeah, those issues from the original games are fixed in CW. -There are more aspects about Anniversary Collection that weren't touched on, and that part was deliberate unlike everything above. Like I said, if the video reached 1k likes (which it has surpassed effortlessly lol), Anniversary Collection is getting its own video and the "incomplete information" will be addressed.
the gamecube version has a rom hack that makes the controls normal (through emulation you can just remap it yourself, but it's useful for original hardware)
The input lag issue could just be from playing on a modern flatscreen TV. Most TV's have awful input lag by default, it can be made better by turning on "Game mode", but even then it's not great. When you were testing the Gamecube version on Dolphin, the reason that you may no have encountered major input lag issues would be from playing on a monitor, which generally are way better with response times. I haven't played or tested most of the Mega Man collections you mentioned, but I just had a hunch that TV's are the issue
As a GameCube kid who got into the classic series through the Anniversary Collection, I didn't realize how good I truly got it, lmao. That collection truly was a product of a better time, where the devs wanted to cram as much quality of life into the games themselves as possible.
I had the Anniversary Collection. I wasn’t impressed. Mainly because the music was handled weirdly, with fade outs in some of the tracks, and the title screens were messed with for some reason. The numbers didn’t have the dimensional gradient they initially had.
Ever since I discovered the soundtrack of Rockman 6 Complete Works, I've always meant to look into the Complete Works series, but this video completely filled the void! Good stuff as always, Magnus!
@@sonichacker141 You can think of it as an enhanced port. If you have the Mega Man Anniversary Collection from 2004, the versions of MM 1-6 included in the collection *are*, for the most part, the Complete Works versions.
To be honest, Legacy collection will probably be my preferred version to play these games, mostly for the accessibility, but it’s a crying shame we never got another rerelease of the complete world version of 1-6. The extra features and remixed music and everything helped make them standout really well, and it’s a darn shame they aren’t more well known.
They definitely saturated the colors to a nice balance. I hardly had to adjust the color and brightness of my clips here because of how vibrant CW is by default.
It reminds me of how the x collection for PS2 is the best version of x1-6. It rebuilt them all for the ps2. As far as the xbox version, it didnt have any input lag from what i remember.
X Collection completely removed all the cutscene voice acting for X6. As well as a bunch of other miscellaneous issues. It’s not a bad collection, but it isn’t “the best”, either.
It really does improve game feel to not be stuck in the menus. I kinda wish Zero games had a way to cycle one of the weapon slots so you can tag into Shield Boomerang for example. Side note, I got the X5 run at the end. I’ve already seen it.
I love this series. I remember getting Mega Man 6 for my 6th birthday. Was great! 5 is always my favorite but 6 will always have that special spot for me. Good video!
Hey great video, Magnus. I have a bestie who grew up with X1 and has cited the lack of hotswapping as THE reason she's had trouble getting into the classics (and sticks to the buster when she does play one of them)--just showed her this and she flipped lol. Guess we're playing RCW next time! I don't _think_ this got mentioned but also of note is that there HAS been hotswapping hacked into every NES game by now, I believe? Involves Select instead of triggers, but arguably makes for a quicker jump-in experience for the more technically inclined who can set that up. I'm actually a weirdo who appreciated Cifaldi's preservation mission statement with LC1, but I can't say the consequences haven't also stung over the years. Looking forward to your new stuff! I leave likes where I can, here's hoping this blows up. (I ended up with your X5 MEH review. Which I hadn't watched, so I guess that's my breakfast viewing :D EDIT: Whoop, not a review, it's the NDR. Still watchin it ^^ brain no work before breakfast)
I don't remember the PS2 version of anniversary collection having that much lag, then again it has been a long time since I played it lol. Also, agreed about Capcom should've put complete works on the Legacy Collection, such a missed opportunity. I hope they can put double team on the Battle Network legacy collection, but that's probably asking for too much. Great Video, Magnus!
@@MagnusZero If you get a nice upscaler like a retrotink (so console -> RCA/whatever to retrotink -> HDMI to monitor/tv), I think the input lag would be minimal. I think I tested it before with the PS2 and didn't notice much, but I'll have to try it again at some point.
Thanks for the recommendation. I've been playing 4 on-and-off as a sort of timekiller game all year but I overlooked Complete Works entirely. Being able to play 4 with a slide button and weapon swap is like a dream. Keep up the great content!
I grew up with Complete Works 3, and it just made me love Megaman for all my life. First game I ever beat, I was 9 at the time, or so. I remember how sweaty my hands were.
7:38 for some reason I died laughing when you "old-school big booty TVs" I should definitely try out the complete works, It's surprising how one difference can make the games a whole lot smoother. It looks like the anniversary collection was the only time these released in the west
Great video! This is the first video of yours I've seen, and I'm a fan! I think your comments about the pacing of the classic games makes a lot of sense, I've always found the pause menu a bit of a fun killer in the first 6 games, which has discouraged me from using the special weapons at all a lot of the time, so good hypothetical there. I think preserving the nostalgia of the game by way of keeping those drawbacks from the NES is especially stupid since those weren't even a part of the games themselves, and just a limitation of the hardware. It feels more like pandering than anything.
What I want-somehow-is a series of hacks that backports 11's realtime weapon wheel to every other game in the series. As good as L/R switching was for its day, having _instantaneous_ access to your entire arsenal was transformative for making 11 the fluid, nonstop action thrill ride that it is.
Great vid Magnus. I got the PS2 anniversary collection back in the day to play 1-7 which I never owned back when I was kid. Can't wait for the other vids!
YT suggested your "Mega Man X2: Weapon Master (FULL Run)" video. I'd also go so far as to say that the Anniversary Collection not having 240p output is a dealbreaker for CRTs.
I remember seeing some of the MM complete works on the PSN store years ago like PSP/PS3 era. Also one thing I noticed ever since I started playing retro games heavily again is that ALOT of games seem to lag or just not play 100% perfectly when played on LCD or flatscreens...makes me wish I never got rid of my crt 😭
Bad sound mixing? Nope...not for me! I'm a huge audiophile in a way, and the music and sound effects of these games are 2 thirds of the experience for me. They have such good music.
that can be mitigated by changing to audio to mono in the settings, but since its all in japanese you'll probably have to use your phone's camera translator if it has one.
I'm glad you're bringing more awareness to these ports! I remember playing these a lot as a kid, back when I had a PS2 I don't play them a lot nowadays tho, and that's bc of an issue I'm surprised you didn't bring up. The only console from that gen I have access to now is a GameCube, and the GC version of Anniversary Collection has the controls reversed for some reason (B jumps while A shoots), and there's no way to change this without directly modding the game. I recently got a PS3 tho, so as soon as I get it set up I'll probably check these ports again :P
Great video, man. I'm subscribing and ringing the bell, looking forward to your future content. It's actually great how I'm seeing many RUclipsrs rise who are Mega Man focused. Stay well, my man.
Megaman x5 zero's extremly Meh damage is what popped up for me. also great job on this video i always did feel like speedrunners who play Megaman 2 use zips are breaking fundamental aspects of what makes megaman speedrunning so awesome, im not denying they don't take skill its just I don't think an average viewer will even know whats going on and that can make people shy away from anything megaman related. personally I like playing through the whole game in its entirety, its one of my favorite Megaman games ever
Absolutely plying the gamecube version on the show. I never knew that these versions were any different. Thanks for bringing attention to it. Great video 👍
I'm now coming across your video and I thank you for letting people know why these versions are still awesome to this day despite the releases of Anniversary Collection and Legacy Collection. I have a lot of info on gamefaqs regarding these games. I'm so disappointed and furious that these versions still haven't been translated by Capcom over 2 decades later!!! I'm even more annoyed that they didn't include these versions with the legacy Collection along with the NES/Famicom roms. I worked on a translation hack for all 6 games back then from 2003 to 2011 on and off. I had the translation of all the text completed too. I had worked on the first 4 games and briefly on 5 and 6. Then my hard drive, of only two years died. And so did my motivation to continue the translation hacks. I did have a back up on another drive (which was 5 years older and still works to this day) but it was months older and I had made significant progress since then. If people are interested and would be wiling to support the project I would start it over again. Still annoyed Capcom hasn't or won't do it themselves.
I have the anniversary collection and one thing thats cool is lag I had was minimal and hardly noticeable. When I went from the actual NES games to the Legacy collection I noticed quite a bit of lag. They were still playable but that sense of authenticity was diminished. If I could work them on my PS1 I would totally buy these. Im just figuring out the easiest way to allow me to play them
Great video!! I remember that when I discovered this games just because the artwork of the covers I was thinking that they were a completely remastered games with updated graphics and all that. It was just about time that I saw a real gameplay and my disappointment was indescribable, but that was because I'm a little too stupid lol
I might be one of the only people who prefers cumbersomely menuing... I just can't wrap my brain around quick switching, for some reason it doesn't click with me and I tend to just get lost in the weapon order and not know where the specific weapon I want is. Opening the menu makes it easier for me to visualise what weapon is where because they're literally all there, in a list
It's sad that the Complete Works didn't get fan-translated before the Legacy Collection came out, I would love to see the galleries and all the information translated.
Great video, and interesting look at the original Mega Man series. I never player any of these and most of my official exposure was for the legacy collections. The video it suggested was one of yours; Mega Man X5: Zero’s Xtremley MEH Adventure. Thanks again.
Some widescreen TVs come with a gaming mode, so you might try checking if your TV has that. That will mitigate most, if not all of the input lag. I had to do that to play games directly on my SNES again. (I'm aware emulators exist - and I even have one - but some games don't feel the same without the feel of the actual controller.)
As someone who has the Mega Man Anniversary collection on Game Cube. Yes there is Navi mode to an extent you can get an updated health bar and the optional text. However as for input lag I discovered if you go to your TV settings, and make sure the TV is on Game. It reduces the input lag to the point of not noticing it. At least in my experience
I totally agree on your point of pausing to switch weapons, I remember as a kid my first megaman game was 7, then X one and two. And even then Inever used the shoulder buttons, watching your videos really make me want to play all these games again and try a more faster, stylish play.
I've been paying MM3 on emulator recently with a hack that improves the game a lot. Quick swapping with the select button, rebalanced weapons and tweaked level designs to better utilize stage gimmicks, it's really good. That, plus emulator settings to eliminate sprite flicker and lag almost entirely (in mesen). I think the hack was called MegaMan 3 redux or something like that, it's so good, it even has achievements in RetroArch.
Thanks Magnus, I have now played through the GC collection of 1-6, emulated 7, and played the DX hack of Mega Man World 5 all because I was inspired by your vid :) I have the MM8 undub mod ready to go, the Mega Man and Bass SNES English translation mod, 9 and 10 with their DLC, and 11 ready to go 😀 If I'm feeling up to it after, I'll start the X games.
Thank you! Finally I'm not the only one who thinks that the Complete Works are still the best versions of Mega Man 1-6 and makes me wonder why can't we get this with the Mega Man Legacy Collection. As much as I love these games and want these games preserved for generations, I feel like there are some room for improvements these games could greatly benefit from which the Complete Works accomplished. It's similar to how I felt about the Taxman and Stealth remasters of Sonic 1, 2, and CD being trapped on mobile devices and we were only served just bargain bin quality emulation of the original Genesis releases of those games for many years and begged for Sega to bring them back to modern consoles and PC -up until Sonic Origins happened-. It's a shame that Mega Man 1-6 in the Mega Man Legacy Collection didn't get native ports like the later Legacy Collections did, the potential to give future generations a more definitive version of these games on par with the Complete Works or possibly better was there, but Capcom just didn't take that opportunity. I know that the language barrier isn't too much of an issue to play the PS1 versions and the database stuff was localized in Legacy Collection, but I still hope that one day that the Complete Works would get a proper fan-translation to really give non-Japanese speaking players the full experience of the Complete Works version of Mega Man 1-6 whether they do that through emulation or even original PS1 hardware. And as a side-note: I got a copy of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection on the Xbox 360 and it does a few differences than the GameCube and PS2 versions, one them being four different control schemes you can choose from though the basically swap the placements of the Jump/Attack buttons and the Quick Swap buttons between the Triggers and the White and Black buttons (or LB and RB respectively on an Xbox 360), I think somewhat better picture quality, the ability to adjust the screen size, and supposedly better load times, and this bit has nothing to do with the games in the collection themselves, it does replace the first episode of the Ruby-Spears _Mega Man_ cartoon with the first episode of the _Mega Man NT Warrior_. Unfortunately, the Anniversary Collection wasn't approved for backwards compatibility on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, and while it's playable on Xbox 360, some of the games in the Anniversary Collection are prone to weird graphical glitches (especially Mega Man 7 and 8) that wouldn't happen on OG Xbox. This makes me really wish that the Mega Man Anniversary Collection was backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series since it could have probably fix these emulation issues and then some with the superior hardware than on the Xbox 360...
the graphical issues did actually happen on the original xbox. it just happens with specific visual settings which i presume is the visual settings the xbox 360 defaults to when emulating the original xbox. the music in 7 sounded weird but im not sure if it was an xbox 360 or if it was also and issue with the xbox version. its why i stick to the ps2 version since it has non of these issues.
0:31 I can't believe you were a human this whole time, SMH I was foolish to believe you were synthetic like us. Still, despite that new knowledge, thanks for showing us this amazing video, this will help me out a lot!
To hear a feature i only experienced in MM10 being in the original 6 made me hyped and wanna casual speedrun em again. Only reason i honestly haven't played em much was because of how it felt to use the bumpers to switch weapons. Even if it wont change to utilities, its alright. Just... really made me facepalm that said collection was on gamecube anniversary collection. And i sold that, wayyy back then. When we were getting a PS3.
Playing Anniversary Collection on Gamecube I wasn't aware the lag. I can only attribute MM1-2 just Mega's physics maybe costing a few jumps just me thinking slippery. Def would give Complete Works a go next emulation runs
the worst menu swapping was in megaman 6 when you switched between different armors and for some insane reason they thought you needed to see the transformation every single #*$%ing time. it's like if you switched weapons and every time you saw the transformation sequence when you beat a robot master.
I actually own all six of these (all six Japanese discs). That may be my most beloved possession as a Mega Man fan. Also a fun fact: Despite owning the disc, I could never get Rockman 5 Complete Works to play. I used a Game Shark/Pro Action Replay to get 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 to play, as each of those games had an "enable" code (I also used this to play Rockman X5). However, I never found one that worked for Rockman 5.
@@Ghaleonh41 I guess that it wasn't just me! I wonder what it was about 5 that it was the only one that you couldn't get to play with a Game Shark or PAR.
@@co81385, it’s weird that it’s the only one. I also had something called PSX Change which also allowed you to access JP games, but it also didn’t work with 5.
¿Do you not plans get a Japanese PlayStation directly? That anti-mod protection is too anoying from PS1 Japanese games released 1999 to 2002. (Like Rockman X5, Dance Dance Revolution series and etc) A few weeks ago, I got Rockman Complete Works 1 and 4 because I won them on auction. Good prices and even more cheaper than buy directly on eBay. (With shipping and all) I am missing the Rockman Complete Works 2, 3, 5 and 6, and i hope to get them and reasonable price. (Especially Rockman 3, 5 and 6 they are mi favorites on Famicom) I love this ports on Complete Works on PlayStation.
Thank you for the video, Magnus Zero! Using nostalgia for re-releasing retro games keeping the original bad performance and no bringing new quality-of-life options is a very lazy and corporative excuse. However, in general, well known and no game-breaking glitches used for easing the difficulty or speed running should be kept. Performance wise, the Rockman Complete Works games are excellent! No slowdown and (almost) no sprite flickering. That said, the scrolling between screens is still a common issue. It is possible to see small visual glitches during vertical and horizontal transitions, and sprites for large enemies partially out of the screen seem tore up even before touching the edges. I undestand that it was an issue less prevalent in old televisions, but it really annoys me how across all official re-releases of the original Rockman/Mega Man Famicom/NES games, Capcom did never bother to try and fix that. In emulation, the issue can be hidden by adjusting the overscan and "chopping" the edges of the screen (especially in Rockman 3/Mega Man 3, where there is a black bar at the left side of the screen for some reason...). The sound effects are different in the Rockman Complete Works games because they use the sound fonts from the original European versions, instead of the Japanese ones... for unknown reasons. Old televisions in the PAL region used to run at frequency rates of 50 Hertz. That way, the sound effects possess slightly smaller loops and worse quality when compared to the ones from other regions. Another issue with the Rockman Complete Works is the inconsistency when using both the original 8-bit and remastered soundtracks alongside each other. The ideal option would be able to choose only between the original soundtracks or the new ones. Unfortunately, the sound effects and the music are a deal break to me over the Rockman Complete Works games.
As someone who has played 1-6 for over 100 times each throughout life, i’m just used to that “nostalgic feel” to play it on my top loader with no hotswap. On the other hand, inti should’ve had a hotswap on Megaman 9. I mean, it was literally made on consoles with the trigger capabilities to do it.
I too got the X5 MEH run as the recommendation. In my experience this usually winds up being the channel's most recent video, and if the video I'm watching *is* the most recent video, then it shows the one before that.
I played Mega Man games my whole life and I never knew about hot swapping. I'll have to try that. I guess, I'll buy the XBOX version and hope the lag isn't too bad. Thank for the info.
The complete works versions are (or at least were) available individually on the PSN for the PS3, and I bought this version of Mega Man 2 back in the day and I noticed the input lag on that platform. I wasn't ever sure if it was just a problem with that version in general, or if the PS3's PSX emulation was introducing the lag, but hearing input lag come up in your video made me want to mention the data point. For most of Mega Man 2 it wasn't dramatic, but once you get to quick man... if you want to go past the lasers without using Flash Man's weapon, you actually needed to learn new timing, pre-emptively moving Mega Man where he needs to go. I eventually got used to it, but that level made the lag a pretty egregious flaw in that version of the game for me.
As someone who's played Anniversary Collection on original hardware on all platforms, I can confirm that the game feels great on Xbox, even on an LCD TV, and the PS2 version has noticable input lag even on a CRT. The PS2 version of Sonic Mega Collection Plus seems to have this issue, too.
Dude so I had the Anniversary Collection on PS2 (which I suspect is just these ports combined and ported again) and I was freaking flabbergasted when I got the Legacy Collection and the hotswapping wasn't there. Lol I just got to the part in the video where you mentioned my suspicion. Nice. But, what I'm stuck on is wtf were they trying to pull with releasing each game separately on PS1? That's practically criminal.
I snagged the XBox version of the Anniversary Collection almost ten years ago after I got a sudden itch to binge through all of the NES titles, especially since 6 never popped up on the Wii Virtual Console (RIP). Got it for $20 but it goes much higher nowadays. Thankfully for me, it was also backwards compatible with the XBox 360, but doing that presented some obvious graphics scaling issues, mostly apparent with the updated lifebars having extra pixels. Aside from that, it played great and it was a fun ride. I also got the Legacy Collections just recently since they were on sale for $8 each, and even though they're clearly emulations of the original NES games, I wish they had also included the Complete Works versions or included their extra features somehow.
I grew up (and still have the Xbox version) and afaik, I haven't noticed much input lag on there. Only times I could think of it being a pain was during mm8 wily 1 (though that stage is still @$$ no matter the version). Other times I haven't noticed it at all (currently have it hooked up to an old wide-screen TV we've had for a while (still has component outputs with composite compatibility, though I use one of those av to hdmi converter things) and having semi-recently played through mm4 and 6 on there, haven't noticed any bit of lag on those games afair then again I could be lucky and the TV I use doesn't give this issue. Who knows. Also fun fact instead of an episode of the ruby spears cartoon, the xbox version of AC gives us the first episode of the megaman nt warrior anime. Just wanted to share my experience with the xbox version
Hey Magnus, I don't know much about laws in your country. but in India we get to know about Megaman through Emulators. and it is still gives the classic feeling. Please add the lengthy detailed video about this. Because I think people will listen your words more than mine.
Your most recent video (as to my knowledge, as of my writing this), "I fell back in love with Megaman X 3...". I think the ellipses is actually a part of the title.
I'm a fan of the genesis ports of megaman 1-3 since it also has unique stuff though I actually do wish it wasn't 16 bits though I understand why they would do that.
wily wars doesn’t really improve the games outside of the graphics, and it downgrades the game with it’s different physics it also really suffers from doubling down on the issues with the bosses, especially in mega man 1, where bosses like cut man and fire man take 3 and 2 damage from the buster respectively, they have increased s in wily wars ALONG WITH only taking one damage from the buster, which turns them into a slog
Meanwhile, an absolute psycho like me got introduced to the _entire franchise_ through the Wily Wars. It's still my preferred way of playing the first three games.
If memory serves, the reason I ended up going with Legacy Collection over Anniversary Collection for 1-6 back in the day was because I reasoned I'd have to get Legacy Collection 2 anyway in order to be able to play 9 and 10, and Legacy was cheaper than Anniversary. Weapon swapping in the classic games does sound quite nice, though.
GameCube Anniversary Collection sucked on original hardware as the buster was mapped to A while jumping was mapped to B B is on the bottom left of the face buttons while A is on the center, luckily there is a hack that fixes this
Played a bit of the Gamecube version, everything seemed just fine from what I remember, also I've heard from others that the Gamecube version of the anniversary collection is the most stable version of that particular group of releases.
I was confused for a minute when you said anniversary collection had input lag because I remember when I picked the game up again back in 2021 the first thing I noted was the lack of input lag. Mind you I’ve played on classic NES and emulators
I can vouch that the Xbox version did have some input lag. Playing at home on a regular CRT TV, the game played fine. I brought the disc to a friend's house and played on his HD TV, and the input lag took me by surprise.
My first gateway into the mega man franchise was the anniversary collection on gamecube and i played a lot of mega man 8, i never had a problem with input lag but that could just be me
Never knew the complete works soundtracks was in the anniversary collection since the GameCube version is the only one I ever played but honestly, I find that to be a plus, which is not to say that the complete works soundtracks is bad, because it's not, they are excellent tunes and remixes. The problem I have discovered from listening to the big giant classic Mega man soundtrack that encompasses literally everything including spinoffs (except for MM11 since this soundtrack predates that game) is that the complete works soundtracks assigned remixes of tunes from different stages and such to the wrong stages. The only one I can specifically think of is one that is labelled as Top Man's stage on the soundtrack but it's a remix of the intro stage from MM7. Great track, but yeah, I think I'd rather have the original beepin boopin NES chiptunes if they can't give me a remix of Top Man's music. Side note, I did notice you didn't mention the number one reason people hate specifically the GameCube anniversary collection: the un-remappable swapped placement of the shoot and jump buttons (to maintain what the A and B buttons do but A and B on a GCN controller are reversed from how they are on an NES controller). I think you get used to it after 30 seconds of playing, but it's definitely worth a mention.
in short... about hot swaping: they should include that mode in Legacy, like the save system or easy mode(whatever) that the X and Zero collections had
I always struggled really hard with the 'slide' levels of Mega Man 8 in the Game Cube Anniversary Collection. Like, way more than seemed normal for my skill level (which isn't amazing, but I would get stuck on these sections in ways I didn't get stuck on others). I've heard it mentioned that those parts in particular suffer from input lag. But that's just anecdotal evidence.
The other advantage to playing RCW instead of the anniversary collection is better scaling. RCW runs in 240p, like the games originally did, while anniversary collection forces it to run at 480i, which causes a gross blurry image for these games. It won't bother everyone, but I'm a scaling nerd, so my copy of anniversary collection is pure shelf material lol.
You could've mentioned how MMAC runs in interlaced 480i, while Complete Works runs in 240p. This is a big blow to the former because it makes the visuals look blurry and stretched. You apparently can fix it (the PS2 version at least) via hex editing if you run it on an emulator, but I haven't messed with that. Also, Complete Works had the Navi Mode remixes optional for MM1-3, but on MMAC they're forced on you, which is a big problem for MM3 since Top Man and Gravity Man's themes are entirely replaced with music from MM7. The only way to do this otherwise is to play the Gamecube version...but then you have to deal with the interlacing issue.
Ayoo great video, my man, as always! Although, I have one question, I haven't watched the full video, but, are you planning on doing the same for the X and Zero series? (for X series, the zero project patch for x3, the final weapon patch for X4 PC, the improvements addendum patches for X5-X6 PSX) and for Zero\ZX (remastered music mods for the legacy collection which there are in the MMZZXLC modding steam discussion thread I believe)
each version has there advantages and disadvantages, I will always point people towards LC1&2 for accessibility and such because the Complete works series might not be easy to access and such. I hear Duckstation is best for RMCW and all. But LC1&2 is good if you want easy access to straight megaman action. LC may not have the hot swapping or Saturn version of 8, but it's a good entry point with what it supplies. Also the other issue with Anniversary collection's sound mixing, sometimes it gets too loud. Look at Megaman 8
I've spent hours, days even as a kid learning how to jailbreak my psp just to play these versions of megs4,5&6 just to play navi mode for those sweet remixes and nothing more. And you know what... IT WAS WORTH IT
Well, I have the following -- -All six Mega Man games on the Everdrive N8 -Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 cartridges on the NES -Anniversary Collection on Gamecube -Anniversary Collection on Xbox -Legacy Collection on PS4
Some things I didn't mention that are being spammed right now, and I'll own up to that. Some things just get forgotten during the scripting:
- Yes, I know about the inverted controls of the Gamecube version that can't be remapped.
Fellow GC Anniversary Collection owner here. Yeah, we had it good.
@@whiteraven1992 I have it on Xbox and yeah, the currently Legacy Collection doesn't compare to this or the original Complete Works releases.
I grew up with both MegaMan and MegaMan x GameCube collections, got pissed when they used the SNES ost for MegaMan x3 in newer collections
I had the Anniversary Collection. I wasn’t impressed. Mainly because the music was handled weirdly, with fade outs in some of the tracks, and the title screens were messed with for some reason. The numbers didn’t have the dimensional gradient they initially had.
Atomic planet did the laziest job ever with Anniversary collection. They swapped A and B and couldn't even add an option to change it back.
Ever since I discovered the soundtrack of Rockman 6 Complete Works, I've always meant to look into the Complete Works series, but this video completely filled the void! Good stuff as always, Magnus!
The soundtracks for the Complete Works games are fantastic!
@@co81385 yes they are!
i thought complete works was a port but now i need it
@@sonichacker141 You can think of it as an enhanced port.
If we spread the word wide enough Nintendo and other companies will be forced to add in hot swapping and other features to make money
@@zixvirzjghamn737 What does Nintendo have to do with Capcom’s games?

I love the Complete Works versions of the games! Had them for years, & got all of them signed! Thank you for posting this video!
Something else that I enjoy about the Complete Works releases: I love how much better all of the colors look!
They definitely saturated the colors to a nice balance. I hardly had to adjust the color and brightness of my clips here because of how vibrant CW is by default.
Yeah in all honesty the colours in LC look like shit.
This is one type of video I like: A highlight of something good that, while praised at large, has good qualities that go unspoken.
Nice video!
It reminds me of how the x collection for PS2 is the best version of x1-6. It rebuilt them all for the ps2.
As far as the xbox version, it didnt have any input lag from what i remember.
The X Collection had the PS1 version of X3, which is a negative for me. However, it also doesn't have any input lag!
They have some bugs in x2 AND X3, in the intro of x2, sound isssues AND sprite things
X Collection completely removed all the cutscene voice acting for X6.
As well as a bunch of other miscellaneous issues.
It’s not a bad collection, but it isn’t “the best”, either.
Nah, X Collection has its issues. It broke X2's title screen.
@@ChiefMedicPururuHardly a deal breaker 😅
It really does improve game feel to not be stuck in the menus. I kinda wish Zero games had a way to cycle one of the weapon slots so you can tag into Shield Boomerang for example.
Side note, I got the X5 run at the end. I’ve already seen it.
I didn't know Complete Works had hotswapping AND that those versions are in Anniversary Collection, now I know what I'll play 1-6 on
I love this series. I remember getting Mega Man 6 for my 6th birthday. Was great! 5 is always my favorite but 6 will always have that special spot for me. Good video!
Man I love your content. I wish more people see it. You are my favourite Mega Man RUclipsr.
That was a very informative video, you did a great job Magnus!
Like I mentioned, if you played them on an old CRT TV, there was no lag. The transition to modern day TVs caused problems.
@@MagnusZeroIt's not the tvs, the adapters are the problem
Thanks for the recommendation. I've been playing 4 on-and-off as a sort of timekiller game all year but I overlooked Complete Works entirely. Being able to play 4 with a slide button and weapon swap is like a dream. Keep up the great content!
I grew up with Complete Works 3, and it just made me love Megaman for all my life. First game I ever beat, I was 9 at the time, or so. I remember how sweaty my hands were.
7:38 for some reason I died laughing when you "old-school big booty TVs"
I should definitely try out the complete works, It's surprising how one difference can make the games a whole lot smoother.
It looks like the anniversary collection was the only time these released in the west
Love the Complete Works versions, my absolute favorite in the series.
Nostalgia doesn't begin to describe it. I'll always love the Megaman Anniversary Collection for GameCube, and I'll never sell it.
What I want-somehow-is a series of hacks that backports 11's realtime weapon wheel to every other game in the series. As good as L/R switching was for its day, having _instantaneous_ access to your entire arsenal was transformative for making 11 the fluid, nonstop action thrill ride that it is.
THIS
Weapon wheel is so convenient and makes weapons way more useful. This should be a standard.
I remember playing these a lot as a kid, back when I had a PS2
I don't play them a lot nowadays tho, and that's bc of an issue I'm surprised you didn't bring up.
I got the same suggestion for next video.
I'm glad someone finally made a video on these ports in modern times
My first video of yours I've seen. You get an easy like from me! I would love to see a more thorough video of Anniversary Collection from you!
Absolutely plying the gamecube version on the show. I never knew that these versions were any different. Thanks for bringing attention to it. Great video 👍
Great video. I love mega man content and subscribed after watching. Keep up the great work.
Excellent and very informative video! Greetings from Hellas / Greece!
Something else to like about the Complete Works versions? The galleries!
It's sad that the Complete Works didn't get fan-translated before the Legacy Collection came out, I would love to see the galleries and all the information translated.
Love this vid style. Another banger. Bless brother.
Game Mode varies from TV to TV. It didn't make any difference on the widescreens I had.
I pray one day we get all 10 classic games with weapon wheel hotswapping modded in. Hell, put it in the X games!
I think the hack was called MegaMan 3 redux or something like that, it's so good, it even has achievements in RetroArch.
bro this is such a great video
Thanks Magnus, I have now played through the GC collection of 1-6, emulated 7, and played the DX hack of Mega Man World 5 all because I was inspired by your vid :)
I have the MM8 undub mod ready to go, the Mega Man and Bass SNES English translation mod, 9 and 10 with their DLC, and 11 ready to go 😀
If I'm feeling up to it after, I'll start the X games.
This makes me really wish that the Mega Man Anniversary Collection was backwards compatible on Xbox One and Xbox Series since it could have probably fix these emulation issues and then some with the superior hardware than on the Xbox 360...
the graphical issues did actually happen on the original xbox. it just happens with specific visual settings which i presume is the visual settings the xbox 360 defaults to when emulating the original xbox. the music in 7 sounded weird but im not sure if it was an xbox 360 or if it was also and issue with the xbox version. its why i stick to the ps2 version since it has non of these issues.
very good video, more videos like this could be fun specially for other games (like the AustinSV guy does)
0:31 I can't believe you were a human this whole time, SMH I was foolish to believe you were synthetic like us. Still, despite that new knowledge, thanks for showing us this amazing video, this will help me out a lot!
I’ve actually been curious on getting those versions of the classic games. And these quality of life changes look good.
Reminds me of when I was trying to play 5 as well. Unless your system was had a chip in it, you couldn't play 5.

That anti-mod protection is too anoying from PS1 Japanese games released 1999 to 2002.
(Like Rockman X5, Dance Dance Revolution series and etc)
A few weeks ago, I got Rockman Complete Works 1 and 4 because I won them on auction.

(Especially Rockman 3, 5 and 6 they are mi favorites on Famicom)
I love this ports on Complete Works on PlayStation.
Idk what was there before but the recommendation is now your recent Megaman Anniversary video.
Just wanted to share my experience with the xbox version
i never knew there were versions of the classic games w/o input lag, will try when i can
Thanks for the info!!! It was always annoying, switching weapons in menu..
Kinda odd that there’s still no fan recreation of them that surpasses every official versions
I'm a fan of the genesis ports of megaman 1-3 since it also has unique stuff though I actually do wish it wasn't 16 bits though I understand why they would do that.
wily wars doesn’t really improve the games outside of the graphics, and it downgrades the game with it’s different physics
it also really suffers from doubling down on the issues with the bosses, especially in mega man 1, where bosses like cut man and fire man take 3 and 2 damage from the buster respectively, they have increased s in wily wars ALONG WITH only taking one damage from the buster, which turns them into a slog
@@amso7169 IK, its mainly the extra levels, more megaman is something I won't turn down
Meanwhile, an absolute psycho like me got introduced to the _entire franchise_ through the Wily Wars. It's still my preferred way of playing the first three games.
this feels exactly like the sort of thing thats been taken care of by fan versions for a long time
Love the channel.
Might need an update! this year there have been english hacks to the menus offered to Rockman Complete works for ps for all six titles
Magnus i love ur waves my guy! Yo shit spinnin 🙏🏾🙏🏾
IIRC, the first 4 Complete Works releases are _still_ available to download on PSN.
The camera cut-aways remind me a lot of somecallmejohnny reviews, it’s a good addition
GameCube Anniversary Collection sucked on original hardware as the buster was mapped to A while jumping was mapped to B
B is on the bottom left of the face buttons while A is on the center, luckily there is a hack that fixes this
Played a bit of the Gamecube version, everything seemed just fine from what I remember, also I've heard from others that the Gamecube version of the anniversary collection is the most stable version of that particular group of releases.
Seeing a lot of Megaman type videos lately from lots of RUclipsrs. I gotta get in on that and put some out!
Always wanted these versions
I was confused for a minute when you said anniversary collection had input lag because I remember when I picked the game up again back in 2021 the first thing I noted was the lack of input lag. Mind you I’ve played on classic NES and emulators
I can vouch that the Xbox version did have some input lag. Playing at home on a regular CRT TV, the game played fine. I brought the disc to a friend's house and played on his HD TV, and the input lag took me by surprise.
Put the console on progresive mode
Mega video, man.
It rocks.
Try playing megaman with a gamecube controller though, it's a little painful haha.
in short... about hot swaping: they should include that mode in Legacy, like the save system or easy mode(whatever) that the X and Zero collections had
I remember the GameCube version of Anniversary collection had the Jump and Shoot buttons swapped, I could be wrong about that
You could've mentioned how MMAC runs in interlaced 480i, while Complete Works runs in 240p.
I totally forgot the complete work editions exist, really need tocheck em out.
I've spent hours, days even as a kid learning how to jailbreak my psp just to play these versions of megs4,5&6 just to play navi mode for those sweet remixes and nothing more. And you know what... IT WAS WORTH IT
I’ll never get rid of this game. Got it for the GameCube along with the x collection.
Well, I have the following --
-All six Mega Man games on the Everdrive N8
-Mega Man 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 cartridges on the NES
-Anniversary Collection on Gamecube
-Anniversary Collection on Xbox
-Legacy Collection on PS4
