The same thing happened when Avatar 1 released. Named after the colour of the Na'vi, James Cameron has famously called this tally a blue harvest.
Well, at least he doesn't have to waste too much time tallying anything in China! If Cameron had any testosterone, he'd have some sort of manly regard towards it.
My favourite thing about Top Gun Maverick was seeing a trailer of it in the cinema (I was watching Doc Strange) and at the end of the trailer the person in front of me says to their friend "I think that's military propaganda". It was the funniest thing ever.

I was 10 years old when the first Despicable Me was released and I genuinely believe Minion: The Rise of Gru is the best movie in the franchise by a significant margin. It's almost difficult to believe that it was made by the same people that made Despicable Me 2, Despicable Me 3, and the first Minions movie.
The problem with the hits is always that its - that movie that was good that expectedly did good - that franchise movie that isn't particularly good but did amazing because franchise - a decent horror movie that wasn't particularly better than other horror movies but somehow got lucky and made the list because of its relatively low production cost
Bro. NOBODY could’ve predicted how well top gun 2 did. I used to make fun of that movie and trailer when it was first announced. Like who in the fuck thought making a top gun sequel was a good idea. But it was amazing 🤷🏼♂️

I'll be honest, I've read some comics, mostly the ones in the newspaper, and I would never have expected a The Batman movie to do well. I can't believe unknown indie director Matt Reeves was able to make a moderately successful The Batman movie. At this point, anything is possible.

A little surprised that The Batman was narrowly beaten out domestically by Minions, had no idea the latter was that popular! BPWF ($433.1m domestic) if it hadn't lost over 1100 screens/theaters this past weekend to 4 new movies according to BoxOfficeMojo had a small chance of passing Avengers: Age of Ultron's $459m domestic number by the end of its run as the MCU's 6th highest grossing domestic movie (behind Avengers 1, 3, 4, NHW & BP) and narrowly missing out on the #20 position on the all-time domestic list. It's been a little disappointing that its current foreign $375.3m number couldn't match or better Love & Thunder's $417.7m number :(
The Batman was a 15 or 18 so it lost the opportunity for a lot of that, kid audience and thus family ticket prices. It arguably therefore did better because it made almost as much with a smaller potential audience.

Not having China is really hurting Marvel. Doctor Strange 2 would easily pass 1.1B with China. Thor L&T would make 900M with China and Wakanda Forever would make 950M with China.

I was very confused. But - once I got over that... yes, I felt a lot of emotions throughout this film. I left that movie feeling amazing, unlike the horrible nightmare that was NO TIME TO DIE where I left depressed and hopeless. Doesn't it feel good to just feel good when you leave a film?
