I put some of the 3d printed replacement parts up in our Etsy store. Thank you. etsy.me/3nisiHS
3D printing is a godsend for the hobby community.
Yeah it’s pretty amazing what can be done now.
Awesome, man! You restored the hell out of that Mauler. It's so great to bring old toys back to life and you did an incredible job!
Thanks so much!
I remember the Mauler. I wish still had my.😎👍🏿
Yeah, it's such a great toy. Thanks for watching.
Great work, and congratulations!
Great content. Cheers!
I had the mauler, definitively the best joe tank made.
wow, you have lots of skills.
today, I d stick to the 82 - 83 joe line up, except for cobras.
Thanks 👍
Great job sir1 that crazy CONFETTI. Looked like Christmas tree tinsel from the 80s!
You're probably right! Maybe it was a Christmas present.
@@ActionRobotPunch lol
I can do a lot of things in this life but you sir have skills that simply amaze me. I still have all my GI joe and I’ve been thinking about getting them down and setting them up. Your end result on this was amazing.
That's great to hear and thanks for watching the video.
I got heavily invested into the 25th/50th 1:18 scale joes but more recently find myself drawn to O-ring again. Something about the simplicity that makes them more enjoyable
Yeah I love them for that reason. Not overly complicated, easy to pose, stuff isn't falling off them. Just classic.
Looks great 👍. I recently recovered a very dusty but complete mauler from a collection.
That's great.
That "crazy confetti" is actually christmas tinsel. This bad boy was obviously a christmas present, and immediately played with.
You're right! I can picture the kid getting the batteries in the tank and sending it off across the floor. Then it snagging some tinsel and winding it off the tree as the tank drives forward. Then the kid having to get his dad to remove it. LOL good times.
Great job!!!
Thank you.
I was inspired by this, so I finally bought a "broken" MOBAT, opened it up, realized it just had a loose screw that had somehow made its way into the gearbox, took that out, and voila-- I have a working MOBAT. Don't know how to 3D print though, so not sure how to learn. :-)
That's fantastic. What a great find. Thanks for the great story!
Have you ever thought about doing this as a business great idea restoration G.I. Joe vehicles.
No this is my fun time hobby 😀
You're so right the Mauler looks a hell of a lot like the Mekerva but you could argue it's based on the HSTV L an American prototype tank
You're totally right. I made a video looking at the HSTV. The Mauler is almost a perfect copy. ruclips.net/video/u-0AUIyOmdE/видео.html
I don’t have access to a 3d printer but was able to get reproduced pieces on eBay. I’m seriously thinking about converting mine to RC in the future. Like your tank, mine is a “rescue” tank from eBay. Complete tanks are quite expensive.
Great. I love when a toy gets a second lease on life. 👍
I just got inspired by this video to go buy a Mauler for my Cobra troops to hi-jack, only for me to remember that getting one here in the Philippines means i need to shell out one-months worth of electrical bills. XD
The Mauler is one of the best Gi Joe toys around. So well made. Hope you can get your hands on one.
@@ActionRobotPunch I hope so too
The mauler is just beautiful
You should make a bulk mass of these parts, and sell them to people who don't have the 3d printers
That's a good idea. I've thought of doing a Mauler kit - 4 mudguards, antena, grenade launchers - the parts that get lost. Thanks.
Yeah I definitely be interested if you decide to make parts. I’ll subscribe to keep an eye on your account if you decide to do it then
I would like to know if you sold the ring sproket for the turret that would be super you did a geat job.
Thanks so much. No never sold that piece. I'd just have to charge too much to make it worth my time. And I'm always on to the next thing I want to fix and not making pieces. Thank you for your kind words!
Wow. Next level restoration. Nice work! One question… what is the color code for the paint used on the Mauler?
Not sure. I just mix the paint by eye. I have yet to find a perfect match. Let me know if you find one. Thanks for watching.
@@ActionRobotPunch hey thanks anyway. I was wondering if I could just ask a couple more (going down rabbit hole making one) what waterproofing/ putty materials did you use? Thanks!
Ever think about doing the tow cable in 2 halves then using plastic-weld to glue them together?
Good idea, but I have a bigger printer now so I just need to go and make it. But working on an RC Moray right now. Thanks for watching!
This is awesome! Do you sell those printer files you created? I want to do the same!
Thanks. I'm getting a new larger printer and I'm planning to just make a few kits and put them up on etsy or ebay so it'll be easy and way cheaper to fix up a mauler.
@@ActionRobotPunch That would be awesome dude. Your video inspired me to buy a Mauler myself :D
What kind of Grease did you use for the gearbox on the gears
I think I used Tamiya anti-wear grease. Good stuff.
Thank you for telling me what type of Grease you used
I have a Mauler and 2 broken MOBATs I need to fix but I have so many irons in the fire at the moment.
I here you. It's hard not to start new projects before finishing others.
I do this as well I buy the vehicles that are broken then I repair them and then I buy pieces that are needed to complete the vehicle
It's my favorite way to do it! Then the vehicle really feels like it's yours and you know the story of how it was restored. Thanks for sharing that.
@@ActionRobotPunch sorry I had to edit my comment
The mauler was based off a real prototype tank! the HSTVL
Have you seen my Mauler history video? Lots of interesting info for you. ruclips.net/video/u-0AUIyOmdE/видео.htmlsi=e3Mq1t8gMZ2EibCE
Man do you sell any of your 3-D parts I’d love to buy from someone that’s not trying to make a fortune our 3-D printed parts also I’m just like you I would druther have something that has history that was well loved scratch scraped. And wonder about how those scrapes and scratches got there anyways thanks for the videos
I'm not selling parts right now. It's a lot of work to print and clean and ship. But I have an Etsy store and have sold items in the past. I'll post if I sell more in the future. Thanks!
Upgrades? I see replacement parts being made, but what is upgraded? What's better than before?
To me the whole thing is an upgrade from the way it was when I bought it. But specifically the battery contacts are much better quality now. While swapping out the contacts I also replaced the really thin gauge wire. This should help mitigate the corrosion problems that plague many of the Maulers I’ve seen. Also the mudguards and antennae have a bit more detail because of the 3D printing. If you want to see a more extreme upgrade check out my video where I make an RC version of the Mauler. I replace the entire drive train, install dual motors, install a gunners hatch in the turret, and make the whole thing radio controlled. Thanks for watching!
@@ActionRobotPunch I see what you mean! I used to have one but the transmission broke, and I eventually threw it away. Now I wish I still had it, because I know I could fix it, being much more adept at fixing/modifying motorized toys and r/c's. I love what you did to yours. This is how it should have been made in the first place.
Could you 3D print your entire tank?
Probably but it'd have to be modeled first. The entire process would take a long time. I have thought of designing my own stuff from the ground up.
But I got a working 99% complete maulter for $65 two years ago.
Great job, man. Good find. Thanks for watching.
Lol I had that tank.
Cool 👍
I wish I had talent. I can't fix anything lol
Maybe start with a simple vehicle like the RAM bike that I fixed?
That's a good idea. I might give it a shot.
I so want to fix one that I have that doesn't work.
You should go for it. It’s really not that complex once you break things down. So many times it’s just a bad wire connection. Good luck 👍
@@ActionRobotPunch nadda, I'm certainly not the mechanically incline type. I'd do more damage 💔 than good 😆 🤣 😂
@@MCDJACDC Let me know if you need any help. Over the years I fixed a couple and since I've gutted some I have some spare parts laying around. Just drop me an email at The Channel Name [at] Gmail dot com any time.
@@ActionRobotPunch absolutely 💯 on needing help! I wouldn't know where to begin. 😯😃
@@MCDJACDC If you want, send me an email Actionrobotpunch at GMail. I'd totally be up for taking a shot at getting your mauler working. I have extra motors and gear boxes from the ones that I made RC so I think there's a good chance we could make it happen.
