I bought this monitor and it was awful, returned it to the store the next day. Prior to this I've been using the BenQ Zowie XL2540 gaming monitor for a long time. I set the new monitor up on the desk next to the XL2540, and the XL2540 made it look like shit. The glossy finish on the MSI reflected so much light from the environment around it that it was practically unusable with the lights in the room on. And this was night time, I don't even want to know how bad it would be during the day. With the screens both switched off and the lights on I could see that the reflectivity of the MSI was at least twice as much as the XL2540, and they marketed it as "anti glare"! The colour profile looked bad as well, I couldn't find any combo of RGB colours that allowed it to get the balance right, by contrast the XL2540 looked good the moment I took it out of the box, never had to make a single adjustment. Another thing that was a big problem is that while the black in the centre of the screen looked ok, if I looked at a black area in one of the corners, I couldn't even have reasonably called it black any more, it was more like bright grey. Admittedly, I have my head pretty close to the monitor (30 - 35cm), but the XL2540 gives me no such problems, even when my head is in front of one end of the monitor and I'm looking at the other corner all the way over at the other end. They reckon the MSI has a wide viewing angle, but I reckon that's bullshit. The XL2540 is a TN panel, and for blacks it has better viewing angle than the MSI.
The MSI doesn't have a glossy screen, but of course its coating might be different from what you're used to. Also very surprised to hear about the colours and viewing angles, as the XL2540 is among one of the worst in terms of contrast ratio and raw colour accuracy, due to its TN panel. Think there's a lot of exaggeration here, but hey whatever works for you!
@@TotallydubbedHD To be fair, up until this evening, *after* I made my previous post, I didn't even know that IPS glow was a thing (yay, now I know what it is and how to name it!) because I've never owned anything other than a TN panel (I mean, I had some *nice* CRTs way back in the day, but that's another story). So, yeah, it's certainly true that TN panels technically have worse contrast ratio than IPS and VA panels. But as one user on hardforum put it in a thread about IPS glow compared to TN panels: "I have a TN panel that is from 2007, the blacks are really black compared to IPS or VA panels, though the contrast ratio is a lot lower than VAs or IPS. But to my eyes, the blacks are amazingly deep due to the fact there isn't any glow. Of course you will have less colour reproduction, but it's a trade off I don't mind, hence why I'm still using it to this day." For my $0.02, IPS glow is such awful eye cancer I can't understand how anyone who does any gaming could possibly want to use an IPS panel, and by extension how any of the companies making them can sell them. I can see how IPS monitors like this MSI would be good for word documents and photoshop though. For someone like me, shopping for a higher res monitor for the first time in 6 years, the state of the gaming monitor market all of a sudden looks very distressing, as I come to the realisation that there are in fact very few TN panels available, none as good as the one I've already got, and the other panel types all feature unbearable glow and/or unwelcome curvature
@@spiltichor1192 guess everyone's different. I'd never use a TN panel, despite being a hardcore gamer. TN panels aren't being produced anymore for a reason.
I'm having a MASSIVE issue finding a mon anywhere near as good as the pixio 32" mon I found 5 yrs ago that has died. I paid $300 for it. Now the last 5 monitors I have tried for the same price range and all the same peripherals are complete trash, washed out and ALL have severe backlight bleed. Like wtf?!?! As far as I'm concerned they are ALL either broken or have severe manufacturing problems or are just a rip off. All gotten on amazon. In fact I'm kind of thinking that amazon is just ripping people off because they are all just garbage. So now I'm thinking I'll need to spend over $500 for a flat screen 32" 2560X1440 165Hz which is fine with me but I keep finding them listed at very low prices which makes me think I'm just gonna be getting more of the same.
@Dr.Akakia No, IPS isn't the best. There is no "best", although OLED is probably the closest at the moment. IPS contrast sucks, but its colors are good. VA has good contrast, but they suffer from ghosting and black smear. TN is fast, but colors and off-axis are bad. OLED has longevity/image-retention problems.... they all have their shortcomings. Micro-LED might be good, but we won't know until we have actual product to buy.

@@TotallydubbedHD s I watched it I like the msi but I am getting a bit confused with what I should buy,I would like ur opinion
@@thebadbeast0076 watch the video again, or even easier read the title of the video. Smh.
is it better than samsung odyssey g7 32????????
No, different monitors.
I try to get to 175hz but when I press the overclock it changes to 4k instead. Any ideas how to get higher than 165hz?
How are you connected? Should work.
just pulled the trigger on this for £399
Happy days!
MSI 27" Optix MAG274QRF Rapid IPS Panel Does anyone have an idea about this screen?
But as one user on hardforum put it in a thread about IPS glow compared to TN panels:
"I have a TN panel that is from 2007, the blacks are really black compared to IPS or VA panels, though the contrast ratio is a lot lower than VAs or IPS. But to my eyes, the blacks are amazingly deep due to the fact there isn't any glow. Of course you will have less colour reproduction, but it's a trade off I don't mind, hence why I'm still using it to this day."
For my $0.02, IPS glow is such awful eye cancer I can't understand how anyone who does any gaming could possibly want to use an IPS panel, and by extension how any of the companies making them can sell them.
@@spiltichor1192 TN is total shit you go IPS budget or OLED nothing else in gaming
Is this worth it for 300 pounds?
It's worth watching the review.
@@TotallydubbedHD bro could you just say like yes or no though I’m dumb as shit
Yes 100%
I like IPS screen but cons having that annoying GLOW
True
IPS is the best
@Dr.Akakia No, IPS isn't the best. There is no "best", although OLED is probably the closest at the moment. IPS contrast sucks, but its colors are good. VA has good contrast, but they suffer from ghosting and black smear. TN is fast, but colors and off-axis are bad. OLED has longevity/image-retention problems.... they all have their shortcomings. Micro-LED might be good, but we won't know until we have actual product to buy.
The sony supports 2k now
Is this the same monitor as the MAG321QR?
No idea
Is the firmware user updatable or does it have to be factory updated like the mag series?
Good question, not sure - check the manual.
There's a RUclips video on how to do it. It noticeably makes it better.
Do NOT do it the factory way or it'll brick the monitor.
May I know @3:13 what game is it?
Destiny 2
Imho the Asus ROG Swift PG32UQ is better ...
Why's that?
@@TotallydubbedHD - from my casual gamer perspective, the Asus has better sRGB colour coverage, uniformity, it has speakers, (indeed the KVM switch on the MSI is a very much + ), and it is 20 € cheaper where I am :-)
@@user_23165 fair enough, thanks for sharing!
@@user_23165 LOL it has speakers.
@@user_23165 Supposedly, Asus model you mentioned has a lot worse response times than MSI. Look at the reviews.
You mean 700£ ;)
Eh?
175hz.
Didn't watch the video then?
Hi really want this monitor but I here so many mixed reviews and there saying HDR isn't good would you a agree
HDR is shit on every monitor that not OLED
