Come on Chris and Neil. Give Espen a call and take him on the next PSB tour and do a duet with Neil with this track. No one is out there writing love letters to your back catalog like Espen.
25 years too late...excellent. Is good to see that there's more people in love with this music, with this wonderful decade of the humankind. The 80's Thanks for share Aspen.
Great. ;) You got the whole Pet Shop Boys / New Order style spot-on. I also like the obvious irony of you actively searching for the "sounds of 88" in real life, which also leant itself to that "yearning / wistful" style of song. :p
I think you found '88 in abundance a la Pet Shop Boys. You transported me back there for a little while, thanks. '88 was a special year for me too for exactly the same reasons as yourself.
If it's still possible to produce decent compositions like this today then there's no excuse for the music industry today for the crap they've been putting out for the last 15 years. Nicely done.
Love it! 88 was a transition from new wave/synth pop to house/techno/freestyle dance music. I love how you incorporate the transition with the 909 pattern. I can see how Depeche Mode almost made the transition without fully changing their genre.
This is another exceptional tune, Espen! I admire your songwriting and arranging skills tremendously. Wonderful work, and very inspiring for all us retro-fanatic musicians out here. Congrats on another beautiful song!
Thanks Ethan, I got this down after lots and lots of reworks, especially in the lyrics. The words are very important to me, much more so than it would seem at times. I reworked the arrangement many times over the years from I wrote it until last year when it was locked in edit.I'm happy it came out to your liking! :) Cheers
I understand Espen, lyrics are truly the heart of a song, I believe. I can tell you put a lot of care into yours! I'm glad you finally got this arranged as you would like, it certainly is wonderful!!
OMG!! New favorite song!! I've been driving around all morning working. I left my phone next to me in the seat listening to this song. I want to buy all your albums! Have you ever thought about making an LP!? :D
Thanks for saying! I don't want to get into physical releases for this, my 80s project. Simply because I don't want to be tied up in the logistics. If a label or distributor took all the legwork, I'd be happy to let them handle it, but so far no one has offered their services to me and I'm not going shop around for it either. I make music first and foremost :) Cheers
Your music is well constructed and would have seen a place in the charts in 88 and would in my opinion have been up there at around top ten. Let's hope one day we go back to this style one day.
Wow! What an amazing track - why has this not been released. I can totally relate to this and I’m sure many others from the late 80s can as well. Subscribed!
I did not grow up through the 1980's, but I was exposed to a lot of 1980's music. My electronic tracks are formulated around synth-pop and Italo disco, as well as Synthwave. I am still searching for the best sounds, and drums for these styles. I own two 1980's keyboards (Casio CT360, and Casio PT 10). While these are both from the 1980's, the sounds could be tweaked a bit in an envelope. Or by themselves for small riffs and backing play.
Wonderful! You do great songs, and they are very authentic tributes to the wonderful 80s! I also like your voice very much! Please never stop doing what you re doing!
Fantastic Mr. Kraft, thank you so much! Song, in the best traditions of 1980's music, Italo, Synthpop, Discopop, last years of that beautiful decade - Rick Astley, Kylie Minogue. That so romantic cosmic strings in the song, makes me cry. So good, to understand, that you're not alone, in this sincere passion, to romantic 1980's. You're not by case born in the year of Pig, 1959, 1971, Mr. Kraft?
Like this it has a Pet Dhop Boys but definitely Espen Kraft one of the greatest 80's synth pop groups still making great Syth Pop to this day. Keep em coming
Emax still rocks! I'm after the rack since I started watching your sampling videos, I have sampled my Elka Piano 88 and with a sampler it sounds much better than the real thing! The fact that you can edit the attack and create a loop is very cool.
Time travelers wouldn't even notice any discrepancy. Loved the double video effect as you sang. After listening to so much synth, your vocals have the same clean smooth aura. I was always curious how singers like Phil Collins added effects to his voice to make it sound like an electronic echo chamber.
So I see the "magic" of 88' is universal and not just exclusive to Hip Hop...In Hip Hop we hold this year in the highest regard, it's the genesis of "THE GOLDEN ERA" which was 88'-91' a blessed period indeed. This song you've written is pretty dope Im feelin it!!! What a year to be infatuated with a girl and music and just that particular moment in life in general huh? I went through it, I experienced it, I can definitely relate. Im a Hip Hop dude but I produce and love all types of musical genre's.
I hear you brother, thanks for the comments! :) I The period late in the 80s and going over into the 90s was a big part of my life and as a producer, like you, I came to appreciate all what was going on on the music scene and the rise of both hip hop, house and the other sub genres was magical and I know I'll never experience the same thrill again, but through my music, in this case, I hope to relight a little flame withing that can elevate the heart and mind for a brief moment, back to that magical place it was. Peace! :)
PSB sound somewhere between Behaviour (my favourite of their albums) and Very. Nicely wistful contemplative tune and lyrics. Superb musical craftsmanship, as ever.
Another great one Espen , You hit this one right on the head. That is so, so, 80s I like it a lot. Had my head bobbing and everything. Great playing too. Great Job Espen.
Swett !! I was 15 back in 88.Nice years to me. Good music , real music, real people, real times. No screen, no covid-19- fear illness. Maybe naif times but not as sad as now.
So glad I subscribed to your channel. I enjoy the opportunities (no PSB pun here, of course!) of hearing your music and learning from your demos. Wish I could revisit that wonderful synth-pop era of the eighties. With your channel I can come close.
This song is amazing. The harmony, the energy development, the lyrics. A lot to learn from it!!!
Cheers!
Come on Chris and Neil. Give Espen a call and take him on the next PSB tour and do a duet with Neil with this track. No one is out there writing love letters to your back catalog like Espen.
Totally, if someone posted it as a new PSB track, I'd be 100% fooled. Perfect.
I know, right?
Fascinating
Would t in perfectly on Behaviour
This is a Behaviour ❤
This must be the song I waited years to hear
Nice reference there ;-)

Thanks for share Aspen.
My pleasure Evan! :)
Someone once said, the most important thing in writing music is euphoria. If your track induces euphoria, you succeed. Thanks Espen for euphoria!
Thanks for saying! :)
exccelent music !! 👍
Thanks! :)
Searching for the sounds of 88 is my new mantra
Thanks for the inspo ❣🤫
My pleasure! :)
Great. ;)

I also like the obvious irony of you actively searching for the "sounds of 88" in real life, which also leant itself to that "yearning / wistful" style of song. :p
Thanks! I especially appreciate you picking up on the irony. :)
@@EspenKraft
yeah but what about all the good house that was around in '88?
mate, when he went on to Electronic with Johnny Marr, THAT was the real shit!. j/k new order were awesome
I have always felt like ‘88 was about the peak synth pop year.
Come out to Utah and I will shoot a cool video for you at some highly visually stimulating locations :)
Hi it's me again. Want to say that thanks to you I discover unknown Pet Shop Boys songs... ;) great tune and great PSB voice! Cheers! :)
Thanks! Just for the record, in case someone else is reading.. these are not PSB songs. ;-)
Of course they are not! But they are good enough to be :)
You really captured 1988 with this tune and great lyrics, 1988 was half my life ago, but it doesn't seem like so long ago!
I think you found '88 in abundance a la Pet Shop Boys. You transported me back there for a little while, thanks. '88 was a special year for me too for exactly the same reasons as yourself.
You keep the 80's alive! I'm loving it!
Thanks! I'll do what I can! :)
Espen Kraft In these difficult times we need to listen good music to our hopes high!!!
To keep our hopes high. ;-)
Me: great song
My brain: this is pet shop boys
Maybe both are right? ;-)
My heart: and it's a good thing!
Unreleased b-side maybe :-)
This is MUCH better than the rubbish music of today. A well engineered, great sounding, great lyrics...Pure art in audio form.
1988 CONCERT FOR THE MASSES ! PASADENA ROSEBOWL ! 1988! FOREVER IN MY HEART!
THANK YOU ESPEN!
A great year! Thanks :)
The 80s were magical with rich melodic sounds and meaningful lyrics
Wow, great song... PSB influence is there! Great "bridge" for a the change-up... Piano with heavy reverb = heaven

Nice, thanks :)
IMPOSIBLE QUITARTELA DE LA CABEZA UNA VEZ LA HAS OIDO.
ESTUPENDO TEMA ESPEN.
GREAT SONG.
Thank you very much for saying! Gracias! :D
Perfect. It ain't easy to write an original song that sounds as brilliant as PSB. Love everything you do, Espen.
Many thanks Chris, I appreciate it! :-)
Very high quality production, great song and vocal. It does capture that late 80s vibe really well!
Many thanks!

Love your Pet Shop Boys voice style. Very 88's! And it's a great music too.
Thank you very much! :)
Espen and their songs are in the level of Pet Shop Boys! Great!
Thanks for saying! :)
Love it! 88 was a transition from new wave/synth pop to house/techno/freestyle dance music. I love how you incorporate the transition with the 909 pattern. I can see how Depeche Mode almost made the transition without fully changing their genre.
Thanks Paul! The 909 snare isn't something I'd normally use, even back then. Sometimes it's just the right one though ;-)
Great work as ever Espen, you definitely found the sound of 88. I am still trying to rediscover my 1982 musical self..!!
Nice to hear, thanks! Just go for what your heart tells you! :)
This song take me back to 88, indeed. Beautiful song and nice ending section

This is real music. Good choices , piano at middle 8, and that instrument at the end, perfect match.
Sweet, thanks! :)
Well done. Such good productions confirm that there are still musicians who know to write nice songs instead of meaningless stuff.
Many thanks!
I guess we're the 'hippies' of the '80s. Stuck in that era. You've touched me....again...
Awesome Roger! We're definitely hippies of our times.
ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO LISTEN TO YOUR SONGS ... !!!! Regards !!
Thanks Marius! :)
This could have been a track on PSB's Behaviour, Though it was 2 years late from '88. Great job
Thanks Neil! :)
Well done, great song!
Many thanks!
A banger. Not only back in ´88, also here and now in 2018! Great song, great production! I enjoyed it!

Fabulous, bang on - very witty and nailed the genre completely.
I appreciate you saying that Allan, thanks! :)
Nice one Espen!! that 909 snare was so popular in the late 80s and 90s , reminds me of Stock Aitken Waterman productions and later Black Box
Thanks Nik! It was fun to use it again after these years :)

Takk skal du ha! I always appreciate it when someone pick up on the lyrics like that too :)
This is excellent, Espen. Didn't think anything could top 'Americana', but I love this :-)
That's great to hear, thanks! :)
Great stuff. This a love song to the Emax😘
So nice to hear song structure again
