A considerate human being of making children happy. I adored this man then for his simple musical repertoire [still do] and now, because of his activism, while still having the comfort many people need [individually speaking]. Thank you, Raffi!

Thank you Raffi for this fantastic talk. It is great to hear someone speak so clearly about the world's greatest challenges, and to bring to light the most important part of any solution - the honouring of our children.

I love that this work of Raffi's brings us to thriving, not just surviving. Placing the infant's wellbeing as a priority is a very practical way to ensure we move to thriving. Thank you, Raffi, for this work.

What Raffi is talking about is also exactly how the aboriginal peoples of the earth have always raised their children - community, extended family & village, natural child honoring. Wonderful! Thanks, Raffi!

Also ppl in his country of Armenia. Same as mine. My parents spoke of the village raising them. If my dad got away with something and the neighbor 5 doors down caught wind. He would discipline as well by telling on the child out of care. People care ! Wow , what a idea

Remember that movie with Kevin Spacey... K-Pax? Children in that society weren't just raised by their parents, but the whole community took responsibility. Seems like Raffi is talking about that same idea. I think if we can get through this time of trial we might just see that play out. It's nice to see an artistic view of our present day challenges. Thanks Raffi!

It takes a village, it takes a village to raise, it takes a village to raise a child. It takes a village, no one can do it alone, it takes a village to raise a child.

Raffi's words resonate with the fundamental values of humankind. Creating a culture of child honouring is within our grasp - today. All it needs is that first step - from each of us. Let's put a message to ourselves on the fridge - "Today I will honour children by . . . . " For me, today, I will speak to participants in our children's environmental health collaborative about how to bring Raffi's message alive in New Brunswick.

I really love Raffi and all of his music, but I disagree with his philosophy on this issue. There is nothing more important than a dedicated mother and father to raise a child. There is no way you could expect a "village" to give the proper care and attention that a child deserves in order to grow to reach its full potential.
Until we reach a point where more children are raised with both their biological parents in their households, we shouldn't idealize this idea of "it takes a village to raise a child". Because it isn't fair to the child to not have that love, affection and nurturing which it can only get from its parents.

I think he's talking about everyone though , because to your point , those children who do not have both parents in the same household need additional love , care , and support . Even the children that do have both parents together need additional care , love , and support because they still interact with other adults even in the early years of life . That's why he emphasizes it takes a village . If you truly love Raffi, you would realize that he would never underestimate the crucial role of loving parents . It's just unfortunate that not all children have that either . As the song says: One light , one sun, one sun lighting everyone . One world , turning , one world turning everyone . No matter what , we could all use a little more Raffi in our world right now!

    • @kruszer

You're not thinking big enough. Two parents raising their biological offspring is a relatively new invention in the scope of human history. There are still tribes around the world where the children are all shared commonly and raised collectively. It's our individualistic way of thinking that leads to children being viewed as an individual home's comodody. Possessions that only matter when they're wanted. Beings should only exist when they're brought into existence under ideal living circumstances. Reality is never so tidy. I think we need to move beyond the idea of the perfect nuclear home and focus on helping kids thrive regardless of their living situation.
