In Spain they know the tourist season started when the first Brit falls from a balcony.
💀💀💀💀
That sound the tamest thing a British tourist can do. Lol! Still funny, accurate reply.
HELPP
Drugs "and" alcohol. It is this sort of messaging that lets people underestimate the danger of alcohol.
No, it juat show how dangerousAlcohol is, that it has his own "category" since its Legal.
Traveled to Amsterdam from the Hague via train and when I got out of Central Station a British couple who looked like they had quite the life experience asked me if they were in Amsterdam so yeah I get it.
I read something similar concerning Spain who wish to go upmarket, and not wanting boozy Brits spoiling their image.
I lived on the Costa del Sol and found that the British expats were instrumental in keeping their rowdier compatriots in check. My neighbour, a retired prison guard, patrolled with local police. His missed his truncheon, I guess.
I observed the same phenomenon in northern Thailand, where young American trekkers were kept at bay by American retirees who'd settled there. Many of the latter were former teachers, who unsurprisingly were quite adept at it.
As a Portuguese man, It's not uncommon to see tourists from Germany, France, Spain during the summer etc. The British on the other hand, are just unfortunately a bit too much. In my experience, British people (middle aged and elderly) are really good people and usually well behaved and cause little troubles. Unfortunately, their youngsters are the problem here. It's as if all the under 30s, teens and mid 30s adults just come here to get really, really drunk to the point that it's dangerous not only to their health but to others around them. They come here, not all of them, to get "a one night stand"and drunk with their mates. As you know, alcoholism breeds violence hence the issue with them not only in Portugal but in my neighbour, Spain. I think all of this stems from a few observations me and my Portuguese family have seen, they are not a family oriented people. They highly value independence from such a young age. This is both good and bad. On one side of the argument, being independent at a young age makes you grow and be more mature. However, there is a massive danger here. If your kids are taught to be sulf sufficient, independent at a young age with minimal supervision from your parents what do you get? Young adults, teens that think they know it all without the guidance of their parents. Studies have shown that the human mind is only fully developed until their mid twenties. The British parenting style is a problem. It's as if their friends are their family. They don't value family as much as we do. In Portugal, likewise nearby Spain, Italy and Greece we are raised to be not only close with our families but friends with them. For instance, I'm friends with my uncles, aunties, cousins, siblings and parents. We socialise on a week by week basis, we go out with each other, we visit each other's house, we eat out with one another. This is universal within Spanish culture too, Greek and Italian culture as I've lived in their countries for a few years. Family is the root of the British problem. 🤔
replace british with "chinese" or "african" and you would be called a racist. I don't see why applying it to British people is any different? Individuals are the problem, not a nationality.
@@partyp3opl393 first of all it’s not racist because he’s also white (he’s European in case you skipped geography) so maybe xenophobic yes, but racist is not the right term. Second of all, he isn’t wrong. He wouldn’t need to single out Africans or Chinese as you claim because those cultures actually do value family. The importance of individuality is ingrained in British society and yes that doesn’t apply to everybody else, but judging the way that British youth generally act not only in their own country but in others, I think that’s enough evidence to signify their lack of family values. If you’ve grown up without knowing the importance of it, it probably means nothing to you but most Mediterraneans, Europeans in general and people from other parts of the world would clearly see the problem with this indépendant culture
@@maria-212 "Not racist because he is white". Yeah, it wasn't racist for the holocaust because they were white people. Get off your horse, it's embarrassing. If you think I don't value family just because I'm British, then please take your stereotype elsewhere and just think about what you are saying. Sure, there are lots of bad apples in the UK. But there are also lots of really nice people - the same as any country. But to label a nationality based on the actions of a few is WRONG.
@@maria-212 what you are talking about is individualism which is definitely not a uniquely British thing my friend, most Scandinavian countries (most notably Sweden) are the same but I don’t think anyone complains about them abroad. As a Brit I can tell you with almost 100% certainty that it’s our drinking culture and the real “working man’s pub” mentality that causes this. That being said, you can lump us all in the same boat and I have seen people of all nationalities behave awfully abroad. Im going interrailing soon (including Amsterdam) and it’s incredibly unfair to lump me and others into this British stereotype when Britain (specifically London) is known for being very multicultural.
I’m nearly 18, I’m an introverted person but I can confirm drinking is a huge problem here 😅 underage drinking as well. I’ve got drunk before, like very drunk being sick and honestly not enjoyable but it’s a bad drinking culture here. Like everyone gets super drunk and it’s unhealthy, I quit drinking unless it’s on special occasions and in small amounts because I don’t really enjoy it and I only really did it at parties but to answer your question yes it is the norm to get blackout drunk and it’s peer pressure and all of that. Or just wanting to fit in. Uni students are probably the same 😅 I think some teens or young adults my age are responsible but you’re right they party hard here as well so it definitely is an issue, sorry about any awful tourists you experience they are probably alcoholics and I’ve heard at uni if you don’t drink you’re outcasted so yeah drinking is a huge issue here. By the way to clarify none of my parents are alcoholics, I just drank too much at some parties I think it’s too normalised to over-drink or drink whenever you gather with someone in Britain
Stereotypes are usually correct. You can hear the British exceptionalism from the interviewed lads thinking the Brits are the only ones spending money when they are abroad and for that matter they are immune to social barriers, great job Netherlands for dealing with these clowns, Spain, Portugal and France needs to follow.
Can't say I blame them. Some tourists should remember that when abroad, they are guests.
Immigrants
Respect the town, city and country you are visiting. I thought this is basic.
Great to see someone taking a stand against drunken bums and druggies. Good !
Druggies? We’re not the nation with weed cafes up and down the country! Unlike the Dutch
They were more than happy to invite those sorts in the first place and make money though
@@herv7539 I don't know where you live and can only speak from experience of my own small home town in mid Wales! The smell of weed is strong here, day and night. Waste recycling bins often overflowing with Stella cans and areas along secluded paths littered with these and empty bottles. We do have major issues with drink and drugs, sadly no places for parents to turn without getting the police to their loved ones not a wise or nice option! Our local doctor said now more alcoholics with a serious risk to health are only in their twenties! It's been a fashion and has turned to a serious addiction, a shocking shame and waste of youth and drive and money.
@@herv7539 You haven't been to Glasgow then?
If there is illegal behaviour, arrest the suspects, deport them and don’t let them return but why get upset if somebody (most folk) are actually behaving within the bounds of the law ?
bingo why should the stupid few stop the fun for the many.
@@timbrown2809 Because deporting the stupid few begets more stupid people. Every time. The people who live in Amsterdam are sick and tired of it. The Brits are beint targeted because they cause the most incidents by far.
@@timbrown2809 because its their city and they can do whatever they want with it
@Bjj Kickboxing not when its a International city that bases its revanue on tourists for the majority. Yes your going to get the fucktards from the UK and US ban them either individually or as a group, My point ill repeat it again is why should everyone be banned for the pathetic actions of a few.
you dont see sydney or Tokyo banning tourists for something the locals do legally
If only everyone had the same opinion about *non-white* immigrants
where is it being shown? im seeing lots of news sources talking about this campaign but i cant even find it, potentially its mostly non brits seeing it. and of the clips ive seen it doesnt mention brits at all
If youre googling from the uk, try googling stuff like "cheap amsterdam hotels", "amsterdam stag". Those are some of the googled phrases that trigger the ad
Nice, New York should do this next for the way brits treat our servers and waiters
and how do they treat them??? think you should look closer to home re how some treat others....
@@yvonnejohnston9429 Most New Yorkers are great people even though the city has alot of issues, other countries welcome American tourist with open arms. But everyone who works in the service industry knows that brits are insufferable.
Great stradgey. For years they advertised to come. Make up your mind.
It's pretty simple: you're welcome to come here as long as you behave yourself. As an Amsterdam native, I can tell you that young British people and their stag/hen parties are annoying af (even though I know it can be so much fun to be part of the party).
@@Anna133199 Amsterdam has a reputation of cheap drugs and sex all over the World. And you blame the British because they just wanna have some fun? You are being xenophobic or ignorant, or both. I'm sorry.
@@Anna133199 they're too entitled to listen to reason
Everything is 2x more expensive in Amsterdam then the rest of Holland because of the tourists
British tourist in Thailand die. Jay Bridgehouse was rushed to hospital after a crash between his motorbike and a pick up truck in the early hours of February 26... It's just one fresh example.
I think that’s goes for many national tourists
that may be a good thing.. too many brits ruining nice places
same people foam at the mouth when they see hard working east europeans working in their country
exactly! I went to Britain all I saw were drunkards and addicts and they really say Arab countries are worse.
just dig a trench around the place and let it float off
Lol judging by their denial, things aren't going to change soon. Best of luck to the Netherlands, Spain, and any other country that accepts British tourists.
It is discriminatory. Discrimination just means choosing one thing over another.
It's really not. You're out of the EU anyway, plus it's their country, they have the rights to do whatever they want with brits who decide to mess around and find out the consequences.
@@KoniTheChiwa They do, and it is.
I was in amsterdam just 1 month ago.. I was totally fine.. just stoned, very tired and hardly not drinking - I'm English. We are not all out of control drunks.
@@Levis612 Thats how they are they act like that thinking "I'll never see this person again anyway" and now they have this kind of reputation and still deny it 😂cant even begin to tell You the amount of arrogant Britons in Malaga expecting the locals to adjust for them.
Keep them out, they're not the only tourists around.
@@GCS88 yet im british but dont drink alcohol, spend quite a bit of money wherever i go after saving up for a whole year, dont u want people like me to come put money into the economy?? plus none of my family touch alcohol either, and like me they visit and spend a lot in every place they visit.. so u cant class everyone the same.
Problem has been solved. Amsterdam is long ruined. 20 years ago - ok. Now? Not worth it.
All Dutch and Spanish living in UK can F O home as well then
I went to amersdam and I nevér saw this behaviour
i went to Greece, Spain and Holland and saw this exact behavior form brits
Wow, if you think you have it bad in Amsterdam, with people basically having a holiday and leaving. Try living in England, with half of eastern Europe setting up shop for good.
That will really work. Stop selling alcohol and drugs. Then nobody will show up
What about all the Africans selling coke there blatantly
It's the brits who buy the drugs. No demand, no supply.
To whom I wonder, if not to europeans who inhale it like it’s air
As if Anglos don't sell drugs and are angels.
still not as loud or obnoxious
amsterdam is overpopulated city with bad infrastructure specialy amsterdam north 22 milion inhabitans with tourist every year they ferries can not handle this amount of people the goverment do nothing for dutch people you have to suffer under this. Money speculations rich people rule the world amsterdam is kinda dysneyland with bad infrastructure 22 milions people whole year 10000 % overpulated its not nice place to live an work high cost living quality is worsest in europe that is amsterdam nothing special about this city its a pain
that is true 18 mil inhabitants in nl but in amsterdam whole years with tourist 22 mil so 18 mil plus 22 mil :)@@Levis612
What ladies? Dutch ladies? Sex workers? Both? 😅
🙄
Sadly we can target people by gender or citizenship but not race. "Stay away Arabs" or "Stay away Muslims" would also help tho.
if you're a brit and don't see the hypocrisy in this...
Nah the Arab countries I've been in felt much safer and civilised than anything I saw in the UK?
help who? clearly it’s the british they’re saying this to because a minority (or majority) of them can’t behave properly. and then you go and blame others😂joke
They’re the same everywhere no matter where they go. It’s because the U.K. is a repressed nation and they let it rip once they get out
hardly repressed.....
I'd stay away from Holland simply because of the way it's government has treated it's farmers. A country that has strict restrictions on private firearms ownership, saw a Dutch police officer fire on a Dutch farmboy during a protest. Utter hypocrisy and disrespect of it's people.
I love the Dutch government it’s very liberal and open minded.
Firearms ought to be strictly controlled because they are dangerous and should never have even been invented.
@@cultfiction3865 Ok. Firearms are dangerous. Duh. Then take them away from Dutch police, so they cannot fire on unarmed Dutch farmboys, to follow your own logic
OK limmey
@@MayaMaya-tj7kw ???
Netherland has hate speech laws aswell these fags can be arrested for a tweet 💀
Where does it specifically say British people in the campaign advert? It doesn't.
The ad targets british people specifically on google, also it's in english.
@@perpetual_suffering1458 it doesn't say British people and visitors to Amsterdam from across the world speak English so that means nothing.
@@bigboobiessogood do you not know what advertisement targeting is?? These ads ONLY show up for people using the internet in the united kingdom. Nowhere else in the world. Specifically british men between the age of 18-35
@@perpetual_suffering1458 no amercians?
@@timbrown2809 Well, this is just a guess, but Americans on average tend to drink less alcohol than almost every developed country (due to the religious culture here being very anti-alcohol, I speculate) and therefore probably drink less when abroad as well. As a consequence of this, I would assume that they probably don't cause the same types of problems as drunken Brits.
What did they expect? Amsterdam has been known for years for drugs and hookers. And suddenly it's a problem, I agree it's a bad look on the public image for the country. But it feels so out of touch.
Other countries are spreading that image... that's the problem. Just because you legalize drugs and hookers, does not mean you want drunken Britts who attack people on the street.
It's not about the drugs and hookers, it's about the people who lack discipline and have no self control.
@@blt4life112 That's almost everyone with drugs and alcohol in their system. At least with weed they don't get agressive.
Tommy is right though about the fact that the city of Amsterdam has let this get out of control for decades and now they only blame the brits. They themselves are to blame as well. Don’t get me wrong: I’d rather see the drunk madness go but they are not the only guilty ones.
@BLT4LIFE I would add the companys that host the stag do's if they can't provide adequate security, so if these yobbo's do disturb peace the staff should have to resit their licenses before being allowed to host a event and staff fined 20k kroner
the yobbos 2 personal warnings and tagged by biometrics cctv so they can't sneak back in.
if they break the peace \law again while in town banned for a period of no less than four years
