I'm 6'8 and heavy, most chairs do not have high backs, and also a lot of them do not support more than 300 lbs. Thinking about a secret labs titan xl for 35" backrest (good for 6 feet 10 inches) and 395 lb capacity
Ergonomics is an interesting thing because depending on the size of the person the needs are very different. For example, so many people say "avoid gaming chairs" and to get an ergonomic office chair so I did. I have been using an ErgoChair from Autonomous for years and while its a good chair. I recently decided to ignore all comments about anti-gaming chairs because of one thing, I'm rather tall. I am between 6'4" - 6'5" and there is no office chair that I could find designed to fit me. On the other hand, the Secret Labs Titan XL is made for people of taller stature so I decided to give it a shot. I havent had it long enough to review it but so far I do have to say that I like the fact that my head is actually supported by the headrest unlike every office chair I have ever sat in.
@@Clumaex thank you for the suggestion! I looked it up and it seems like this chair is not available for people in the United States or at least I haven't found a vendor that has it available in United States. I'm about 194cm and as a quick update the Titan XL is not really tall enough lol its better than others but still.
I'm just about to buy a gaming chair. But why is it called a gaming chair, I don't know. I like to have it because I think I can sit, rest and even sleep comfortably I believe. Hopefully it's a good choice.
@@sootuckchoong7077 I would really suggest looking into getting a refurbished ergonomic chair for the same or similar price. Your back will thank you. This is coming from someone who has owned a DxRacer for 4-5 years. I had to heavily modify this chair before I could make it somewhat comfortable. Trust me, I would go back to get an ergonomic chair 10 out of 10 times if I could.
@@michael_tunnell That's kind of wild, the Secretlabs Titan XL 2022 is supposed to be tall enough for people up to 6'7". I'm only around 6'1" so I got the Titan XL 2022 and it's working really well for me. The headrest is a big thing for me too, so many ergo office chair headrests also didn't work for me. The new lumbar support I've found comparable to how comfortable the lumbar support on my old used Aeron was until it broke (unfortunately no warranty on a used chair for HM). Haven't had it long enough for myself to speak on the durability of the chair -- I'm a big dude and I work from home so it's hard to find chairs that don't just fall apart on me because of my size + length of daily use. We'll see on that front. I will say that ergo office chairs 100% tend to be built better than 99% of gaming chairs out there though. Hopefully Secretlabs is different for me because I really like the way this thing looks in my space too lol.
I really despise what the term "gaming" has become associated with. It used to be that when you bought a gaming product, you bought something actually designed to be useful for gaming. Gaming mice for example typically have higher DPI or more buttons. Gaming displays have high refresh rates and things like onscreen crosshairs. But then the decline started with gaming headsets, which featured pretty colors; gaming PCs, which featured pretty colors; and of course gaming chairs, which featured pretty colors AND generally worse comfort features.
Gaming mice have evolved back from being edgy and geometric to becoming as ergonomic and efficient as possible; maybe because of the recent rise of FPS games and the decline of the MOBA genre. Anything else with the "gaming" tag these days is a joke.
i mean thats how it works with any term look at what corporations like apple have done to "pro" for example thats just the way it goes u cant escape it or change it
" gaming PCs, which featured pretty colors" I disagree with this point gaming in computing is the main reason why graphic cards improved to what they are today so gaming PC is indeed a right term indeed a PC with not that many numbers cores, mid num of ram, and heavy focus is a gaming PC an ML Eng one will focus more on RAM a Streaming one will focus more on more ram and more importantly more CPU cores a dev one will focus more dependable on what you are developing for example more CPU cores (Game/mobile Dev) a cyber sec one also depends on where you are in the field might focus more on CPU,Ram and doesn't really care much if at all for the graphic card (as if cracking is needed a dedicated cracking machine will be built or now we rely more in the cloud) so yeah a Gaming PC fit perfectly
gaming headsets usually have higher bass for hearing footsteps and gunshots, gaming pc's usually are pc's designed to run games at its best potential, gaming chairs is still quite confusing for me tho.
Tbh buying a chair is a lottery, since most of the choice is online and you can't try them on, and even if you could, a 3 min sit down is not the same as sitting there for more.
Obyvvatel This is so true! I've been visiting malls for days, trying at least 10 office and gaming chars, and they all kinda seem comfortable, but what happens after 20+ hours siting on some specific model? You can't test that until you buy it... It's frustrating and time consuming
If only standard office chairs leaned back as much as the gaming chairs, they'd be perfect. I get in the office environment it's not practical, but for the home office environment for people like myself that spends most of their time there, it is.
@@pjitiwong Sometimes u're on the computer and want to take a nap but at the same time u don't want to walk to the bed either because u are too lazy or because if go to bed you lose your will to sleep. At least that's how I feel
Can't belive I'm actually commenting on something.... Anyhow, I do care more about posture and health and gaming on my old Walmart office chair was killing my back. And sometimes after work come home and game and fall asleep in it. Yeah that was painful. Now I spent a bit shopping for a chair and I can't bring myself to spend hundreds on a chair like this. Now those prices he stated about all of them being under 400 is true. What he failed to mention was him comaoirimg a racer that you can get anywhere from 80 to 110 dollor, comparing that to an office chair costing 300 plus dollor. That's a big difference for someone like me who wouldn't want to spend that much. Now in the end I did buy a racing style chair, not the gt racer or whatever it's called. And I spent a little over 200 and that, for me, is insane lol. But I had to. But I went with the racing style chair cause it was the only one in my price range that offered the lumbar support, the custom leather, the adjustable arm rests, tilt, rocking and all that. In that same price range I found nothing office chair style that offered all of that and seemed of good quality. So I'm calling bullshit on the whole price to features thing where office chairs are better and offer more in way of function. Now I can't speak on durability as far as the chair I purchased goes, but it Seems sturdy and it's very comfortable. I wanted an office style chair, these racing chairs are just cliche and idk, everyone has one and I don't like being part of a mass group lol (and I actually do mostly Sim racing and still wanted an office chair) . But for the money it was the better option from what I found. Keep in mind I'm also including quality of build in this too. So yeah I found office chairs that can do what my racer does but they were cheap and just not seemingly well made. And reviews, their about useless cause everyone either says they're garbage or amazing. Idk. But this video seemed a bit misleading. Price points were exaggerated when comparing 2 chairs to each other. That secret lab, THAT chair is expensive and that was a fair comparison. But comparing the gt racer, those chairs are as base and cheap as they come. And compare that to a 350 dollor office chair? Get out of here. That's not even the same leuge acting like the racer has less features and made without function. No shit, cause it's a cheap chair. Lol.
I’m a gaming chair guy. I bought expensive office chairs and the seats always rip. I bought a cheap gaming chair and it last for three years until I upgraded to a better game chair.
I tend to go with the executive office chairs and wait for a good sale to make up for the higher cost. They tend to be made comfortable enough to sit in them for multiple hours at a time, with lots of padding. The high backs make them easy to lean back on, too.
"And you don't care so much about having 4-way adjustable arms and fancy lumbar support" *Frowns while sitting in his fancy secretlab gaming chair with 4-way adjustable arms and fancy lumbar support*
Yep, they were smart to make their new chair more like an office chair. Definitely one of the best racing chairs available because of those changes. -RB
I bought an Embody this year, and thus far, I have no regrets. I graduated from exclusively buying Secret Labs chairs, and while they're great, they pale in-comparison to the Herman Miller lineup.
There are gaming chairs that offer 4-way adjustable arm rests. I do agree that the flimsy strapped lumbar support is terrible, there are other options that provide an incredible lumbar support. I personally bought the AndaSeat Kaiser 2. Even though I bought an oversized chair, it provides so much comfort and support in all aspects which I use for gaming and my home office career. Having a headrest on your chair is comfort on another level! I do with there was a mix of office chair and gaming chair. But until then, my AndaSeat is killing it!
the video everyone anticipated but no one dared to ask! thx btod. ps: just saw the vera chair with the optional headrest. it'd be nice if you did a review of wether it's worth it or not and the adjustments it offers
Thanks for watching! I wouldn’t recommend the headrest on the Vera unless you’ve sat in the chair and know it’s a good fit. This is because it is fixed height and there isn’t any adjustment to it at all -GK
What gets me interested into a gaming chair is the wide back tilt I can't get from an ergonomic chair I use right now. Plus the mesh gets all the crumbs and cat hair stuck.
@@TinkerTactical he is right tho ,u have to try a good ergonomic against a gaming chair and trust me it is night and day ,I tried the Herman miller aeron and it is the better chair then any gaming chair I have tried and I have tried them a lot ,to the point I sold my gaming chair to get a used aeron chair ,I would recommend you to try it out ,u will never buy any gaming chair anymore .
@@Omar-kl3xp I have had an Aeron for 10 years and recently got a Secret Lab Titan Evo and it is a game changer. I dunno man....my Secretlab Titan 2020 comes with a 5 yr warranty, has a built in lumbar support that isn't just some back pillow, has a support weight limit of 290 lbs, and gives me the freedom to move around in the chair unlike most racing style chairs.
I bought a herman miller mirra 2 chair after all the ergonomic health hype I've read about. It just wasn't comfy no matter what I tried. Decided to buy a secret lab titan for 1/3rd the price and its way more comfortable.
I was having this same thought whenever he brought up features a similarly priced office chair would have over a gaming chair. I'm like 80% sure that the 2020 Titan has 4D armrests, long total mechanical warranty, adjustable lumbar, forward tilt, etc. I'm personally looking at the 2022 model right now, but the old one had almost all the same features except the up and down adjustment on lumber.
@@Fyrium I could see the up and down feature of the lumbar being a nice upgrade. I personally always have a lumbar pillow not matter what chair I use. The secret lab chairs are definitely not some run of the mill gaming chair. The seat cushion is a firm foam which breaks in over time/ you get more accustomed to it. This foam is quality. Its not some cushy foam that feels good initially but bottoms out over time. My 2020 arms go left, right, up, down, forward, backward, and also pivot in or out.
@@zooyorkk Herman Miller is overrated. Fine for office/work setting but not fine for relaxed setting (gaming, watching movies). IMO they're really not meant for recreational home use, there are better options. Works fine for me at work, would never want to use it for gaming.
I have a fairly expensive office chair for my at home setup. And then I sat in my husband's expensive gamer chair and it was so much more comfortable. My back pain went away once I started using my husband's gaming chair. And my work had a professional ergonomic company come in to setup my office setup with my office chair and it still did not help.
@@argotheinformant it's not Rare, it's about the chair quality and design setup, I tried 4 gaming chairs and i found the ASUS ROG gaming chair is the most comfortable chair from all of them.
Yeah, I've had the same experience. Those expensive office chairs just aren't comfortable compared to a good gaming chair. One thing I hate about them is the back leans back independent of the seat and it's especially bad if the back or seat is mesh. Mesh is a really stupid idea!
I think something a lot of people overlook also is that a car seat is supposed to support you as you're driving and accelerating, thus giving you a lot more contact with the cushion vs slouching forward while using the computer. They're completely different applications with different sets of ergonomic requirements. One of the reasons I want something like an Aeron so badly is the forward tilt support, it really follows and supports you even if you're not actively leaning into it, and to me that's invaluable - actual game changer in my view on chairs and ergonomics after trying some Herman Millers in store.
What do you mean "forward tilt support" i have an AKRacing Onyx Deluxe Leather Black and I have the opportunity to send it back by the end of the month, it would be a major task to box it back up but it CAN be done, if and only if this "Forward Tilt Support" is a game changer. Are you saying that it would give me a more upright and forward leaning i might need to do gaming on my computer? I like my chair, it's VERY BIG and comfy and is awesome looking albeit all black but the leather front stitching is next level. I guess it would be nice to have some addition levers and mechanisms,,, it has adjustable armrests and and a couple of chair adjustments but as you know, that's where gaming chair adjustments stop and start...not a ton. thanks so much in advance!!!!
@@harpoon_bakery162 Have a look at the fully kitted-out Aeron and Mirra 2, they have an additional option to have the seat follow you forward by a few degrees with the seat and backrest and it's a game changer for me as someone who sits upright a lot and has shorter than average legs (so, not getting optimal foot-to-floor contact on many chairs).
@@JennyDarukat Ok, so I checked out my AKRacing Onyx Deluxe Leather as far as tilt-forward, it does tilt forward certainly enough as it goes completely forward but I know that not exactly what you are talking about. This additional option that has the few degrees of "follow you forward" sounds as cool as an arctic wind. I do have long legs however 6'3" athletic frame, However, I'm still intrigued by these models you speak of. Also, I just stumbled upon a chair called Noble Chairs EPIC , so I'm interested to know if you've heard of that? So now that Noble Chairs entered into the mix in addition to the SecretLabs Titan Comfort Weave / PU Leather / Napa Leather options. WOW, now even more options into the mix. I really appreciate you bringing these gems into the mix. I just spent 749.00 US dollars on the AKRacing Onxy Deluxe Leather Black and am not even sure if it has COLD- PRESSED Foam, it might not (Noble Chairls made it sound like a game changer and that these days, you MUST have the COLD-PRESSED Foam so that it holds up over time and will not deform and cause problems over time. SO there's that too. Gosh, this is overwhelming. ANd I noticed that Noble Chairs has a white these with MANY different chairs and I'm going with a Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO Snow White Build and my main monitor is a 34" Alienware Ultra-Wide Curved , So I have a few items that are white, but without haveing white laminate wood flooring installed yet, I might hold off on the fully white theme because it gets expensive to get everything to white including desk and gaming chair. Thanks so much.
I dont know if this is viable to you but the 2020 Secret Labs chairs do have forward tilt support. You can lock it in a leaning forward position for people who prefer that style to work, this is one of the reasons I recently bought one of those.
@@michael_tunnell Is it a forward lock or a forward tilt follow? I think a lock wouldn't do very well for me since I vary how I sit a lot - it's the following combined with the way the mesh accommodates the different parts of your back on the Aeron that really makes it so great imo, especially on a tighter tension setting. It's a little like an orthopedic brace without the harshness, if that makes any sense.
I have a gaming chair, and leaning the back .. back, isn't comfortable at all, you end up with the head much lower down that intended. I just lock the back and tilt the seat instead. While I've had my chair for almost 3 years and it still has no noticeable wear and tear, I am swapping it for an office chair for better ergonomics.
This video is an absoulte MVP. My gaming chair just broke on me yesterday and I was looking for a new chair to buy and immediately considered another gaming chair of course. But then I asked my brother and he asked me if I would consider maybe buying an office chair like he has. I then thaught: Well what exactly are all the differences that those two types have. The race car type sticking out of course but I wanted to know all of the differences. After your video I asked him if I could test his a bit to see if it works out too for me. It did and it has all those things I would never have checked for if your video didn't tell me and now I think i will get an office chair thanks for your help.
you know the secretlab chair comes in different sizes right? you're sitting in the omega secretlab chair which is for people up to 5 ft 6 lol they have a titan series which are for bigger people
Exactly what I'm thinking while sitting in my Titan. The office chairs never gave me the support my shoulders and upper back needed. I've tried a lot of them
Yea, Im 6'2'' 280 and the Titan is by far the best chair I have sat in. I hunted for a good office chair that isnt just a lounger. The Titan's ability to be true up right and then lock all the way back is the best.
Really good vid but I would like to point that in MOST gaming chair you can remove the back attachments which makes it quite more comfortable, well at least for me that's why I would prefer a gaming chair over an office 1
That can help some. When you remove the back pad there is almost zero lumbar support on most gaming chairs and that can be even worse if you need support -GK
I have yet to outwear or break down a high quality office chair. I've broken two gaming chairs in four years, twice each. If covered by warranty, it takes 14 days without a chair while it's being sent back to factory. Never again. For me, metal back and metal seat parts bent and broke, and plastic (!!) castor mounts brittled and broke. As well as plastic decorative plates coming loose and breaking due to becoming brittle (but does not hinder functionality). These chairs are designed to break. How anyone dares take sleeping position in them is beyond me. Get a proper recliner. Now I'm going expensive office chair next with decent warranty, and I'll check with store if they have a part replacement system setup.
@@yazdazkafraz3419 Was the more expensive options, felt solid, and looked solid. Unfortunately had plastic parts in the castor inserts. Chinese "quality" (I've had Chinese chargers that exploded when I plugged them in) - all these chairs are built in China. It's not that others may not be built not to last, but they come with a much better warranty. Interesting video with a lot of good points IF we're talking about standard gaming chairs, which are usually trash, let's be honest here... The last model of Secret Lab gaming chairs fortunately don't have those drawbacks talked about here though, so you're pretty much safe in choosing this instead of a standard office chair. Also, standard office chairs typicaly don't have a head rest, which I personnaly find to be a very important option considering my neck pain..
Have to agree i got the latest 2022 Titan from Secret labs, it has two lumbar support knobs to adjust and the back pain i had on the previous chair has now gone. I do get the video though, there are a lot of cheap cgaming chairs that are bad for your back.
100% agree with you. I needed to buy a chair for WFH, and I did a tonne of research before buying my Secretlab Omega softweave, and had never owned a gaming chair before and Im not a gamer. I used the principle logic of: gamers sit in chairs for a lot more hours vs office chairs. The host misses the mark, where gaming chairs can give you upper back, and neck support with the memory foam cushion. Ive had my gaming chair for 7 months and love it to bits!
I disagree that I missed the mark on back and neck support. Especially when the Omega is being used as an example of a good option for those things. The Omega is one of the most uncomfortable chairs we have ever tested. It is horrible for back support. -RB
@@ashleychong1673Gamers sit for longer in gaming chairs than office workers do in office chairs? So an average gamer spends 8+ hours gaming per day? @@StardustLegacyFighter Wow... bit of anger there? Everything ok on the home front? Some of us don't have the budget to pay a lot of money for a Herman Miller or similar. All i know is my gaming chair gives me great back and shoulder support - couldn't be happier.
A SIGNIFICANT flaw I notice with most modern office chairs is that the upper-back of the chair leans away from the user too far, so the user has to recline in order to be sitting against the full back of the chair (even if the back is fully tilted forward), but if the user is trying to sit upright, the upper-back of the chair is too far away from the user's back, meaning that their upper body, particularly the shoulders, are unsupported. In addition, with any chair using this design that has a headrest, the headrest is too far from the head, due to being mounted on the tilted part of the chair. When it comes to lumbar-support, the adjustable lumbar support mechanism is sometimes mounted on plastic, which bends away from the user when pressure is applied by sitting in it. With all this in mind, I cannot imagine that this can be healthy long-term. I have not used gaming chairs, but based on the examples in this video that they at least try to account for head and shoulder support by making the chair large enough for that. Also, they seem to rely on dense (but not solid) material instead of mesh and plastic, which probably reduces pliability and provides more support.
I spend a lot of money on a premium gaming chair only to discover I cannot stand that it pushes against my shoulders. I just cannot handle the bucket racing design. I need a flat back for my shoulders. Now I again have to spend a lot of money on a premium office style chair that has a flat back.
@@SirKolass most gaming chairs are really uncomfortable and less room to adjust. They are mostly made of cheap lever that cracks, worse warranty, less adjustment( expect in how far it leans back),Terrible back support and over priced. And the desgin,It’s just a cheap trend that works because people keep buying them because they think it looks cool and the market doesn’t have to adapt because of this. And they don’t look that bad but that shouldnt be the main reason to buy a chair. Search it up on youtube, “gaming chair vs office chair” and the first video will show u what u mean. Gaming chairs normally look better but there are office chairs that good too, there aright and if u have one then u don’t have to get a office chair but it in general it’s better to have a office chair. Also there aren’t really gaming chairs that don’t have a bucket design. And even if there is the listed problems above still warrants buying an good looking office chair.
i actually prefer gaming chairs over office chairs for confort, mainly because of my height. I am 187cm tall (6foot 2) and i sit behind a computer 6+ hours a day, sometimes even 10 or 12. but there are very few chairs available for someone like me that are specific to my height and not wayyyy too expensive, especially when you need a headrest like me to take some rest in between those long hours of work. most normal office chairs don't have nearly enough lumbar support for me because they are all to low (most of the lumbar supports are at about the top of my hips, nowhere close to where i actually need it) so that strap mechanism from gaming chairs allows me to take any hight I want. the only office chairs that are good for tall people like me are specialty stuff that is really expensive or not available near me, we had one good chair from IKEA but it was the same price as a gaming chair, non-moveble armrests, and lumbar support so shallow that we would have to stuff something behind my back to get any support. i will admit that racing style seat style is a little to narrow for my shoulders but i don't mind that too much. but i got my "gaming" chair for about 150euro/180usd and any good office chair for people like me would at least cost 2 times the price, probably 3 times. the only thing i had to do was move the headrest pillow up all the way to actually support my head (plus my chair got a leg rest so thats nice when you are watching a video or movie, especially when you put your chair flat to get a good stretch).
@Shem Shem: Would like to point out that there is no situation where you would need a "head rest" unless you are sitting wrong, leaning too far back, killing your lower back in the process. If you need a rest, go to your bed or couch lmao. For tall people, if you really care about your health and ergonomics, I would personally suggest checking out a saddle chair with a backrest.
Gaming chairs are evolving though, we now have the Herman miller embody logitech gaming chair, and also Mavix has a lineup of high end ergonomic gaming chairs that are very different from the typical racing style gaming chairs.
Not much evolution there if I am being honest. Herman Miller just changed the color on their chairs and called them "gaming" to take advantage of that market. The Mavix chair is just the X-Chair rebranded into a "gaming" version. The X-chair did terrible in our testing for our best office chairs of 2021 list. It has one of the worst overall scores we have ever given to an office chair. For $900, I was thoroughly unimpressed with X-chair/Mavix. -RB
Was forced to buy a gc because the oc where I live are either too cheap or too expensive and the warranty is the same, the market here has organically decided that gc are the go to for price to performance. I did manage to find a gc with single colour and non outlandish looks.
I have a Steelcase Leap V2, and while I like it, the support isn't great. I got it as a handme down from a family member, because screw the price tag of the Leap V2, it's ridiculous. The lumbar is TERRIBLE, bad upper back shoulder support. Otherwise though the chair is fine. Better than your $150 walmart or even Costco office chair. I have to say, I know people with Secretlab chairs, and they are super nice, but they aren't for everyone. There are some nice Ergo office chairs that you can get for cheaper, but will not have as much adjustability tbh. Depends on your needs, and frame and build. Everyone isn't exactly the same.
The carseats IMO bottom out quicker than a good office chair. But this is from 200-300ish price range experience for the gaming chairs. I got a stealcase V2 Leap as well and just removed the lumbar support and it's great. Already has support with the curved frame, way better than the gaming chair I had which bottomed out after 2 yrs
I’m in a position where I’m buying used, so will probably buy gaming as I have never owned an office gaming chair. But later in life when I buy new, I would get the best office chair at that time. I just wanna try it out rn, and see if it really is as terrible as people say they are.
What I like most about the gaming/racing chairs is they make u feel like you are sat In them. But I bought a leap v2 & i hated it because it felt like it was kicking me out of it. Do you know of any office chair/s that keeps you in it like a racing/gaming chair does?

Regarding the generalization of gaming chairs. My DXRacer UH73 - does not have a bucket seat. It has a large, near flat, 50x50cm cold foam seat that still holds up and allows me to sit cross legged, which I do 90% of the time. - does not have fancy colors. If I wanted fancy I'd get an ergonomic chair like Ergochair Pro or a Herman Miller Embody. - does not have a short lifespan. It's 10 years old and I easily round 12 hours in it each day as I WFH. - does not have less freedom compared to any ergonomic chair I've tried. In fact my experience has been quite the opposite. - is not designed for smaller, slimmer build types. It supports up to 330lbs. Additionally, it has 4D armrest support and it also allows me to remove the lumbar support. I've never tried lumbar support that didn't become painful, but at least I have the option to remove it on my gaming chair. For my last two ergonomic chairs, removing the lumbar support wasn't possible. I've tried several ergonomic chairs in the belief that I'm missing out on a better experience, but none have been able to accommodate my variety of sitting positions. Alas, I always end up going back to my old worn out UH73 gaming chair.
Ive bought a Secretlab chair before, worse decision in my life. The seat is too hard, the lumbar support is in an awful spot, sitting in the chair gets uncomfortable quickly.
Which one did you buy? Let me guess, not the Titan. Idk about u, but according to my orthopaedics specialist, firm chair is good for the back. So i don't get it when people complain abt Secret Lab to have 'hard' chair. Isn't that good for the back?? Some people swear that the chair improved their back. So maybe its just you?
@@yoominbi It could be just me, that is the issue. It means the chair is not for everyone. I got the Titan, the seat is too 'hard', and my butt hurts just 30 minutes in, and I find myself constantly shifting my position to feel better. I am no expert, but somehow sitting in it, my lower back starts to hurt too. The built in lumbar support is also in the 'wrong' position for me. Which is weird because I am at the high recommended for Titan. Ill be more wary the next time I watch 'reviews' from RUclips because the reviews tend to be overly positive, as the RUclipsrs are all looking to get more sponsorships. Read 'reviews' from actual users instead, which you can find on Reddit and other sites. The complaints are similar. Did you buy a Secretlab chair by the way?
As a person who has a gaming chair, this video is pretty great. I've watched about 5 of your videos and they are very well thought out. They do go into the cons of each chair that they sell on their website. They really are as unbias they can be given that they sell office chairs. Everyone that is downvoting this video are just salty they paid too much money on a gimmick.
My family had that Gamming chair to the left. Now they are in so much back pain. They sold that GAmming chair n saying its the st**Piest decision, went with the hype n it was NOT good chair. NOW they are like using IKEA Office steel Chair. That Hattefjall , chair. They cant stop raving over it .
@@Yoga_Tv_buying I got the Soji that they talk about on the channel and my back pain is near 0 (idle) now. My family loves it too. They all want one lol

LOL, I found gaming chairs so much more comfortable. But I guess a channel selling office equipment would say that office chairs are better on comfort.
Things are changing. Have switched to a gaming chair. It has adjustable lumbar support buil in so so pillow. It has no rattles, it has the classic adjustments I have had in my office chairs etc. Also, it has a lifetime warranty and a seven year warranty on the foam. It's not as black and white as you make it seem. Having purchased office chairs for both my home and business for about 22 years now, I can categorically say that there are equally as many poorly designed and low quality office chairs to be found in that so-called mid price segment i.e 400 usd or so. No matter what you choose, it's a question about looking around and finding something that works and is built well. The chair in my office is a 4000 usd "24 hour" style chair. Will a gaming chair be like that? No, but the 600 usd gaming chair I just got, is by comparison a really good chair for what I paid. Don't be a snob about this, look past the horizon.
Reading through some of the negative comments in this video makes one thing very clear to me, a lot of ppl posting irrational hate about Herman Miller chairs have either never used one or don't know enough about them. I have come across comments where some ppl think shitty gaming chairs are rated for heavy use, whilst the best high-end office chairs aren't. Also, to these ppl the best office chairs are overrated, even tho gaming chair companies can't even provide comparable warranties.
When I was younger I messed up my back, so I'm very picky about my posture. I had a gaming chair for two years, I noticed I slouched in the chair which messed up my back. I recently got a steelcase series 1 chair and my seated posture feels great, and the cushion and mesh back is much more comfortable.
5:14 never seen someone actually do that especially since you're be looking at the ceiling for that. The other chair in the picture qualifies just as much for kick-back tv/movie watching
Vertagear PL6000 has been my chair since 2016 and its so comfortable that I can sleep in it. Its design also fully supports my back without the lumbar support pillow. I actually use that same pillow for my neck. BTW, many gaming chairs have 4D armrests. You just have to know where to look
I purchased a secret labs titan 2 years ago which I was forced to sell a year later, I found that the seat was like sitting on a concrete block so uncomfortable my bum ached. I hoped that i would eventually break it in but no luck. Too bad I really liked it except that for me it was so uncomfortble to sit in. Office chair for me from now on.
This video is not a comparison but ranting on how GC are not nice.....you are marketing your product by degrading other similar category product...not nice...
I'm glad I moved away from the gaming chair trend and saved myself from purchasing something that I would have regretted later on. Office chairs are 100% the way to go for office work and also gaming.
I’ve got a Humanscale Freedom and a Sparco chair. There are so many gaming chairs trying to look like race car seats. Sparco make race car seats and sell a pedestal that bolts to them so they can be used as a chair. There’s a big difference between something that looks like a car seat and an actual car seat.
I use a Honda Civic type R drivers seat on my office wheel base, the most robust, comfortable gaming chair I’ve ever owned……drivers seat cost from the breakers….£60.00 roughly $80…..far better built and way more comfortable than any gaming chair…..way cheaper too…
Ironic. I care about comfort, and at Staples, the gaming chairs were THE MOST comfortable of all of them. The lumbar and back adjustability of office chairs didn't hold a candle.
I got this ak racing chair that was 400 bucks but got it on sale for 179. After a year I still dont like it. The lumbar pillow that came with it is way to firm. I ended buying a different lumbar pillow which helped but I will never get a gaming chair again. Definitely hurts my back. Looking for a office chair now that wont kill my wallet but its hard to choose. *edit...reclining way back on a gaming chair with the lumbar pillow they provide feels awful.
After many years of all types of different chairs, I recently purchased an office chair. Much to my surprise I can sit on and use my office chair for more than 8 hours a day without any pain or discomfort
I respect your opinion, however i think gaming chair has a better value for money than an office chair, maybe it's just in my place however i found gaming chair with more features ( i have been looking for a cheap office chair with rich armrest adjustment and a headrest with no luck) as cheaper than office chair with the similar features, therefore i think a good office chair is very comfortable however significantly more expensive vs features compared with gaming chair, I lived in Medan, Indonesia, do you guys feel the same in your countries?
Just save up and buy a ergonomic chair. Mesh is the future and the gaming chair community has literally no innovation to realise they need to shift. Most of them are just rebranded from the same suppliers (no wonder they're cheaper). Get yourself a good investment and your back and posture will thank you for it
I have an office chair right now but I'm thinking of buying a gaming chair. I spend quite a lot of my time in front of the computer, when I'm not at work. And no, I do not sit in front of a computer at work. I gently control a couple hundred different computers to make sure I and my up to 40 ton heavy cargo gets from point A to point B safely and in one piece. To put it straight, I'm tired of office chairs. I've had 4 of them in the last 6 years and while they have been nice to sit on, they aren't nice to relax in. No real head support and since I have quite a concave curve on my spine, they provide the back support too igh up without being able to properly adjust it. Ideal thing would be if someone would make a swivel chair out of a next gen Scania seat or a Volvo FH4/5 seat. That would be amazing. Would probably prefer the Volvo seat because it has better neck and head support.
I had a ergonomic office chair for 2 years then my body got tired of it I bought a clutch gaming chair pewdiepie edition and had it for 3 years and I still love it no tiredness and still a go I’m guessing everyone is just different but that doesn’t mean gaming chair is better just this one is the best for me
Im a big fan of office chairs, they are sturdier and look better (for me) aesthetically, i mean it looks much simpler and doesnt hurt the eyes, well i never tries a gaming chair either so i dont know if its more "comfortable" since i started with a.... mono-block chair.. yeah, i never really tought about spending money for a chair but after buying one, i loved it, its so much comfortable than sitting on a solid hard chair 😂
pretty good review but your bias is notable. "your paying for weird stitching and logo's" This is completely subjective, you could just have easily said "attractive stitching and logo"
What chair would you recomend that has good ergonomics and is mainly focused on working but is also good for relaxing and content consumtion? Max Budget 2000$
I would check out our latest video, the 11 Best Ergonomic Chairs for 2021. That will give you some great options that fall within your healthy budget! -GK
Gaming chairs have anywhere from 1, to 3-5 years of coverage whereas office chairs have a 7 to 10 year warranty and in some cases, limited lifetime warranty. This generally only extends to the owner and if it is purchased through an authorized seller, however.
Weird how this video features the Omega, which has the closed off wing base rather than the Titan which is opened & flat-based. Ain't really a fair comparison Also, the 2022 Secretlab has an in-built system.
Ikr! That's what I realised too. At least compare Apples to Apples. They picked the cheapest Secret Lab Gaming chair and said 'oh its bad if compared to this $1000 ergo chair'
We picked the most popular Secret Lab chair at the time. This video is several months old. Also, the chair used to compare is called the Vera which was sold for about the same price as the Omega at the time I made this. This comparison was apples to apples. We have the new Titan. It’s a decent chair. We have a review on our channel. -RB
Ive switched to ergonomic chair, Looks like gaming chair but the functionality is combination of office chair and gaming chair (can lean back and have lumbar support)
If anyone is interested in top end office chairs but doesn't have the budget just know there are often really decent quality second hand ones available from companies dealing with office clearances. I know there's a bit of worry about the quality buying second hand but as long as you make sure you're buying from a legit company and check their return policy you should be fine. I've got a second hand Humanscale Liberty Task chair for £230, would've been £729 brand new and apart from some scuffed wheels you'd barely know it was previously used.
I'm a digital artist I'm often slouch over to draw on my drawing tablet on my desk. What chair would you suggest for a digital artist that is trying to improve their posture while they draw?
own a herman miller embody and i would have to disagree about the part where he says gaming chairs lack functionality. For 200$ most gaming chairs come with way more functions then the most expensive ergo chairs and that full recline feature is non existent on ergo chairs.
This is not true. Your Embody has far more functionality than a $200 gaming chair. The Harmonic tilt mech on the Embody is miles better than the swivel tilt mechs in most gaming chairs. Tilt limiter is non existent in gaming chairs and the Embody gives you several tilt limiter positions. A race style gaming chair cannot have seat depth adjustment, which the embody has. The Embody arms have massive ranges for width and height which is almost always a miss with gaming chairs. Yes, gaming chairs have the fully recline function. This is going to be their one major advantage when it comes to functionality. -RB
2:56 I thought this was just opposite, I have seen gaming chairs showing people sitting cross legged meanwhile office chair doesn't allow that? 10:07 I guess 2 years ago gaming chairs didn't had 4d armrest.
I had to return my IKEA Markus after 3 weeks, barely used it after the 2nd week with the pain it caused, my seat went flat within the first week :| I’m well within the weight range too, luckily and credit too them, IKEA refunded me and paid fuel costs! But I feel a bit silly for recommending it too other people, my one was maybe faulty but I was really not impressed, warranty checks out in my case though
My gaming chair have this tilt thing I guess some have that. I hoped for great sitting experience, I didn't care about looks. I thought it would be much better to sit for long time, and it's definitely comfortable but I may try office chair one day and see if it's better.
Hoping to get some feedback. I have a gaming chair and wanting to replace it. What id like to know is, what are some recommendation to replace the chair with. This isn't for a home office, its for me to game on and watch Netflix in. So would like to get a good Chair for posture but also be able to snooze in it.
Great video. I know gamer chairs have a fan base, and that’s great. I prefer chairs like Herman Miller and Steelcase though. Question (my hearing isn’t great) what the name of the ergo chair at the 4:30 mark? Thanks!
my pc chair is a single seater couch pulled up to my desk, sitting in my sisters racing style gaming chair made it really hard it keep a good posture and wrecked my back
Yeah just go for office. Most gaming chairs I've tried feel so uncomfortable and hard. I recently bought a gaming chair from staples and it's not that bad to be honest but I should've just gone for an office chair.
This is like the argument between comfy shoes and custom orthotics. If you need the specific support of orthotics it'll be significantly more comfortable. For myself, having lumbar support is extremely painful and makes office chairs horribly uncomfortable.
I feel out of place with my wooden kitchen chair and cushions. Isn't back pain more of a matter of posture anyways? I never had any back problems, even after prolonged sessions :/.
Since Secretlab is specifically targeted in this I'd like to add that my Secretlab titan has built in lumbar, 4 way adjustable arm rests, I can sit cross legged, and has a 5 year warranty which their team is extremely responsive and take care of you. They also have monotone colors like the one I replaced my office chair at work with due to it causing back pain. I have worked in several high end offices with 800 to 1000 dollar office chairs and none of them have been as good to my back as my Secretlab chair. The Titan is a bit more expensive than the Omega in this video which is their cheapest smallest chair so that may have something to do with it.
You've had to file a warranty claim on your chair? What went wrong with it? What were the several high end chairs that you had in your office? We are doing a comparison soon, so any info on this would be helpful. -RB Edit: Brand new account and a copy pasted marketing line to start your comment has me thinking this is just another comment from Secret Lab pretending to be a real customer.
@@btodtv You're quick to point out that something might've been wrong with it, makes me think you either have a bias against gaming chairs or you have an incentive to promote office chairs.
I 100% have a bias against gaming chairs. I have a ton of experience with them, both using and selling them. Office chairs are a much better option in almost every scenario. I am very upfront and honest about this. I am not making fake comments making people think I am a real consumer, like Secret Lab does. -RB
Hello, I actually need help in choosing Herman Miller embody or steelcase gesture. These are the only two chairs available in my country . My back pain after longer period siting - spinal misalignment. Which one is better . Your input would be greatly appreciated. Checked your webpage on that but it never mentions about lumbar support on embody vs gesture . If you can make video on best lumbar support without price point . It would be good.

The problem I have with office chairs is finding one with high enough back support. I'm 6'8 and they are usually pretty small for me
I'm 6'8 and heavy, most chairs do not have high backs, and also a lot of them do not support more than 300 lbs. Thinking about a secret labs titan xl for 35" backrest (good for 6 feet 10 inches) and 395 lb capacity
@@VoltKraken5555 I'll look into that bro, good call

As office chair i can recommend the RH Mereo 220 Neo with the long gas spring (highly configurable); I'm 190cm.
Anything else with the "gaming" tag these days is a joke.
i mean thats how it works with any term look at what corporations like apple have done to "pro" for example thats just the way it goes u cant escape it or change it
" gaming PCs, which featured pretty colors"
I disagree with this point
gaming in computing is the main reason why graphic cards improved to what they are today so gaming PC is indeed a right term
indeed a PC with not that many numbers cores, mid num of ram, and heavy focus is a gaming PC
an ML Eng one will focus more on RAM
a Streaming one will focus more on more ram and more importantly more CPU cores
a dev one will focus more dependable on what you are developing for example more CPU cores (Game/mobile Dev)
a cyber sec one also depends on where you are in the field might focus more on CPU,Ram and doesn't really care much if at all for the graphic card (as if cracking is needed a dedicated cracking machine will be built or now we rely more in the cloud)
so yeah a Gaming PC fit perfectly
gaming headsets usually have higher bass for hearing footsteps and gunshots, gaming pc's usually are pc's designed to run games at its best potential, gaming chairs is still quite confusing for me tho.
Gaming PCs are still kind of a broad term, considering how modular they are
Tbh buying a chair is a lottery, since most of the choice is online and you can't try them on, and even if you could, a 3 min sit down is not the same as sitting there for more.
I mean some chairs like the Herman Miller have rave reviews
Obyvvatel This is so true! I've been visiting malls for days, trying at least 10 office and gaming chars, and they all kinda seem comfortable, but what happens after 20+ hours siting on some specific model? You can't test that until you buy it... It's frustrating and time consuming
@@Coolsomeone234 I heard only praise for that chair... But it's so pricey
If only standard office chairs leaned back as much as the gaming chairs, they'd be perfect. I get in the office environment it's not practical, but for the home office environment for people like myself that spends most of their time there, it is.

Lol.
Which gaming chair do you have? -RB

"And you don't care so much about having 4-way adjustable arms and fancy lumbar support"
*Frowns while sitting in his fancy secretlab gaming chair with 4-way adjustable arms and fancy lumbar support*
Nice! Thanks for sharing -GK
they should be, the difference in price is huge
Secret chair fking suck, my 10 year old office chair does a better job rather than giving me back pain
They are also $1000+ more than a secret labs chair in Canada. So it should be better.
thats like saying your ferari is better than your civic

I'm like 80% sure that the 2020 Titan has 4D armrests, long total mechanical warranty, adjustable lumbar, forward tilt, etc. I'm personally looking at the 2022 model right now, but the old one had almost all the same features except the up and down adjustment on lumber.

I have a fairly expensive office chair for my at home setup. And then I sat in my husband's expensive gamer chair and it was so much more comfortable. My back pain went away once I started using my husband's gaming chair.
And my work had a professional ergonomic company come in to setup my office setup with my office chair and it still did not help.
rare
@@argotheinformant it's not Rare, it's about the chair quality and design setup, I tried 4 gaming chairs and i found the ASUS ROG gaming chair is the most comfortable chair from all of them.
Yeah, I've had the same experience. Those expensive office chairs just aren't comfortable compared to a good gaming chair. One thing I hate about them is the back leans back independent of the seat and it's especially bad if the back or seat is mesh. Mesh is a really stupid idea!
I call BSA. Ur a paid advertiser or something
I still have about a week or two to un-assmeble my chair, box it up (won't be easy) and send it back to Best Buy per their policy (for a full refund and full shipping back to them (although I could run it over to them and save them shipping.

Also talk about Lumbar Support on the Titan. Better than many, many office chairs i tried, and adjustable to the the strength you need.
I’m 6’4” (170lbs) and I still feel the omega chair to be a perfect fit for me
Really good vid but I would like to point that in MOST gaming chair you can remove the back attachments which makes it quite more comfortable, well at least for me that's why I would prefer a gaming chair over an office 1
That can help some. When you remove the back pad there is almost zero lumbar support on most gaming chairs and that can be even worse if you need support -GK
You need the lumbar supportu
@Artifact Ward no
I have yet to outwear or break down a high quality office chair.
Thank you for your feedback - GK
It depends on what chair ur using obviously. You must have tried some crappy chairs bro
@@yazdazkafraz3419 Was the more expensive options, felt solid, and looked solid. Unfortunately had plastic parts in the castor inserts. Plastic in force supporting parts is never a good idea as it gets brittle over time. Chinese "quality" (I've had Chinese chargers that exploded when I plugged them in) - all these chairs are built in China. It's not that others may not be built not to last, but they come with a much better warranty. ElectroBoom had a HM chair metal pin fail on him, and those are pretty expensive and considered high quality built to last office chairs.
Crappy chairs? You haven't wondered why all these look very similar?
@@gottagowork I meam they'll obviously have varyimg build qualities regardless of similarity of looks, the GT099 is a solid gaming chair and while it obviously soesn't beat Herman Miller, has been a reliable option so far

Not sure what kind of dumb research you did, but you clearly didn't cover the benefits of high-end office chairs and how most of them are rated for 24/7 use. Show me just one gaming chair that is rated that highly.
Also, they seem to rely on dense (but not solid) material instead of mesh and plastic, which probably reduces pliability and provides more support.
i bought this gaming chair so i can match with my soulmate
You’re going to look so good together! -GK
I spend a lot of money on a premium gaming chair only to discover I cannot stand that it pushes against my shoulders. I just cannot handle the bucket racing design. I need a flat back for my shoulders. Now I again have to spend a lot of money on a premium office style chair that has a flat back.
lol should have done the research. it's a 200$ lesson maybe
Buy a gaming chair without the bucket design then, there are plenty to go around.
Titan Evo 2022 is the hardest, most uncomfortable $500 chair I bought.

My DXRacer UH73
- does not have a bucket seat.

It's not as black and white as you make it seem. No matter what you choose, it's a question about looking around and finding something that works and is built well.
The chair in my office is a 4000 usd "24 hour" style chair. Will a gaming chair be like that? No, but the 600 usd gaming chair I just got, is by comparison a really good chair for what I paid.

I have an office chair right now but I'm thinking of buying a gaming chair. I spend quite a lot of my time in front of the computer, when I'm not at work.
Super helpful video thank u!!
Can't recommend the Secret Lab Titan enough. Adjustable Lumbar support without a stupid cushion and it's not a bucket seat so you can cross your legs.
I had a ergonomic office chair for 2 years then my body got tired of it I bought a clutch gaming chair pewdiepie edition and had it for 3 years and I still love it no tiredness and still a go I’m guessing everyone is just different but that doesn’t mean gaming chair is better just this one is the best for me
i got a noblechairs hero. one of the few charis that looks less gaming aggresive and have superb comfort features. i dont regret buying it. love it
Im a big fan of office chairs, they are sturdier and look better (for me) aesthetically, i mean it looks much simpler and doesnt hurt the eyes, well i never tries a gaming chair either so i dont know if its more "comfortable" since i started with a.... mono-block chair.. yeah, i never really tought about spending money for a chair but after buying one, i loved it, its so much comfortable than sitting on a solid hard chair 😂
pretty good review but your bias is notable.
-GK
2k for a chair my god couldnt even get that for my car

I’d get a “Herman Miller” ergonomic Chair if I were you with that sort of budget

how does the warranty cover more on the office chair then the gaming chair? i dont understand. is the fact that the year of coverage is longer?
Gaming chairs have anywhere from 1, to 3-5 years of coverage whereas office chairs have a 7 to 10 year warranty and in some cases, limited lifetime warranty. This generally only extends to the owner and if it is purchased through an authorized seller, however.
Weird how this video features the Omega, which has the closed off wing base rather than the Titan which is opened & flat-based. Ain't really a fair comparison
Also, the 2022 Secretlab has an in-built system.
The only advantage that a gaming chair that i see is the further lean back that can be literally be your second bed.
True! -GK
It's only an advantage if you really want to destroy your lower back.
-RB
This is the greatest comparison video i've seen on the toppic, thanks for the help you're putting out!
2:56 I thought this was just opposite, I have seen gaming chairs showing people sitting cross legged meanwhile office chair doesn't allow that?
10:07 I guess 2 years ago gaming chairs didn't had 4d armrest.
stay away from cheap gaming chairs and office ones. get something like the markus with a 10 year warranty
I thought it would be much better to sit for long time, and it's definitely comfortable but I may try office chair one day and see if it's better.
the thing is i want a proper headrest i haven't seen any office chair have that
What is a proper headrest to you? -GK
Thanks!
Thanks! That is the iOO chair from Eurotech -GK
Thank you for the reply! Keep up the great work with these videos. 👍🏽
my pc chair is a single seater couch pulled up to my desk, sitting in my sisters racing style gaming chair made it really hard it keep a good posture and wrecked my back
Gaming chairs are junk and will
Absolutely wreck your back. There’s tons of people who have suffered as a result.
Strong opinion! I like it. Appreciate the comment -GK
i love my gaming chair
I have a pretty nice ergonomic chair. I hate them. I'd trade it for a cheap gaming chair or just an old fashion cushioned office chair any day.
You should just buy the cheap gaming chair then 🤣 -GK
So if I want a better posture and better health I should go with an office chair?
Yeah just go for office. Most gaming chairs I've tried feel so uncomfortable and hard. I recently bought a gaming chair from staples and it's not that bad to be honest but I should've just gone for an office chair.
The blue chair at 2:40, which one is that exactly?
This is like the argument between comfy shoes and custom orthotics. If you need the specific support of orthotics it'll be significantly more comfortable. For myself, having lumbar support is extremely painful and makes office chairs horribly uncomfortable.
Gaming chairs also have lumbar support
I feel out of place with my wooden kitchen chair and cushions. Isn't back pain more of a matter of posture anyways? I never had any back problems, even after prolonged sessions :/.
This is the best and honest review I have ever watched in my entire life. Thank you very much!
-RB
Edit: Brand new account and a copy pasted marketing line to start your comment has me thinking this is just another comment from Secret Lab pretending to be a real customer.
-RB
Yep. Destroyed my wrist trying to sit cross-legged in a gaming chair. Hope it will recover.
Could we know what are those chair you're comparing? thanks
Looks like the Secretlab Chair skipped leg day.
Haha 😂 -GK
gaming chair : comfort gimmicky
office chair : design for long sitter
Hello, I actually need help in choosing Herman Miller embody or steelcase gesture. These are the only two chairs available in my country . My back pain after longer period siting - spinal misalignment. Which one is better . Your input would be greatly appreciated. Checked your webpage on that but it never mentions about lumbar support on embody vs gesture . If you can make video on best lumbar support without price point . It would be good.
The prices of embody and gesture is literally same in my country. So no problem in price
Here in my country. Office chairs cost more than gaming chairs.
