Choosing Between the Honda WX10 and Honda WX15 Water Pump for Gold Mining.

  • I had a quick opportunity to film these pumps side by side. They are both premium options for moving water around but should you choose the 1" or the 1.5" offering? If you choose the 1" WX10, you will be able to save some weight, and use lighter 1" hoses, but you will be limited in the max output. If you go with the 1.5" WX15, you will still have a fairly light pump, but you will be able to run the same amount of water as the smaller pump at a lower, quieter throttle setting. Also, you can "future proof" yourself if you ever decide to step up to a larger highbanker you will have plenty of flow.
    This was just a quick comparison, so I hope you found this helpful if you are considering purchasing one of these pumps.

    Solid video! When you said to turn off the fuel valve in between uses, I could definitely see how your machinery lasts longer than most. It's amazing that something so small and lightweight can move large quantities of heavy water. Keep up the great work on the videos!

    We use the WX15 and find it to be a very reliable and cheap to run pump. I sometimes have a little trouble priming it but once it is set up it's fine.

    Hi mate. I got the wx 15. Honda is the best and reliable brand ever. You right with the valve and you can run it more silent with less petrol to. With good Maintenance last every engine longer. Also important empty the pump as you say. Good video. Cheers Tom

    I own a Honda WX-10. For any sluice between 6-8 inches it is the best quiet, lightweight and fuel efficient gas pump I have ever used. It puts out more than enough water at half throttle to run my 6 inch highbanker. I also use lightweight braided polymer forestry hose and camlock fittings. So light... I will never use standard PVC lay flat hose again. If using a 1 inch pump, you may have to reduce the feed rate and steepen the sluice angle slightly to compensate for the reduced water flow.

      I'm definitely a Honda fanboy after using these pumps! I can't imagine going back to a 1" princess auto pump that weights 35lbs or a 2" that's over 50 lbs!

      @@UtmostOutdoors Ha! I still have a 1" P. Auto pump still in the box I bought years ago for a backup. I sold my other 1" P. Auto pump a few years ago, as I decided to switch to bilge pumps. The only downside is the the distance from the water. However, a 2,000 GPH will give you some greater distances using a smaller highbanker. All my highbankers are drop riffle units now. They require less water flow compared to riffled units. My age has a lot to do with my changes. Thanks for the videos. Honda gas motors are worth every penny.

    I recently purchased a WX15 and the water hose outlet faces the opposite direction from the exhaust. I noticed on yours it's pointing the same direction as the exhaust outlet. It's easy to swap the outlet flange to the other direction away from the exhaust. Since one is usually working in the direction your hose is pointing. Just a thought. Great videos BTW.

    • @UtmostOutdoors
      @UtmostOutdoors  Месяц назад

      If you're just pumping along level ground and not high enough up to max out the head, the water will travel the 1000ft, but you should just expect not to have a very high flow rate due to line losses. I'd be curious what your flow rate is after that length of hose. Let us know if you test it!

    What's the water pressure like on the WX15?

    • @UtmostOutdoors
      @UtmostOutdoors  3 месяца назад

      The official spec sheet claims 37 meters of head pressure which translates to 52 PSI. In my real world use case as a pump for my highbanker I think it give plenty of pressure! More than enough for any hand mining shovel in operation in my opinion. I use about half throttle on my full size highbanker running 20" wide "pop'n'son" style sluice matting.

    Will these pumps work for a dredge setup?

    • @UtmostOutdoors
      @UtmostOutdoors  Год назад +1

      There are videos online of people running a 2" dredge with a stock honda wx15, but there is also a higher pressure dredge pump that runs off the same engine offered by a few companies including keene engineering that would run better pressure and should run a 2.5" dredge if it's not a long hose...

    Since we are in Alberta, I know that you aren't allowed to use a pump that can move or does move, more than 11 liters/second. However, finding information about a placer mining license is haphazard & pathetically disorganized, when you get one, is there a water use permit attached to it? Or do they ask how much you plan to use?

      Definitely a nice setup. Strangely I enjoy the stock pump because it doesn't need a foot valve, just a screen. So easy to prime. I imagine the keene P90 will put out the same water flow as the wx15 but at even lower rpm. I'd be happy with either. Legendary combos!

    Here in Washington State we can't use gas powered pumps. I was going to start looking at different sump pumps to stay battery/Jackery capable. Have you ever tried running with an electric sump pump with any of your equipment?

    • @UtmostOutdoors
      @UtmostOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Yeah, 12 volt bilge pumps work great when you're closer to the waters edge. I need to do some testing of a bilge pump through a longer hose and see how it does. I bet you can still move a lot of dirt with the right electric unit! Might try that out this summer. Battery electric is definitely the way to go when it comes to peace and quiet...
