Saw the wonderful Martha Davis at a mid-sized pub here in Perth, probably at the time of this album's release. At some point during the performance, she meandered through the crowd as she sang some smoky ballad. When she passed within two feet of me, I swear I swooned. I was in love with her. I still am.
and i saw martha davis at the civic hotel 2002 for memory .. packed heaps of women but the highlight for me was the last song of the night ONLY THE LONELY without the sax but that guitarist sure filled in that groove wow amazing she was mesmerising
love the Motels - this is a great song by Martha Davis!
Excellent song! Beautiful melody and lyrics that hit home for anybody who's experienced the dull pain and disappointment of unrequited love. Which is to say, all of us, huh ?
I was born in 1972, so I was 16 when this was released, and I had not heard this song until now (7/25/2020). I think the song is outstanding. I loved her work with The Motels, and I absolutely love this track. I wish she had been even bigger than she was. Her music takes me back to the times of my teen years, they were incredibly awkward at times, but overall they were really great years. From listening to the songs that she did with the motels, I always thought that she was a deep alto, but now I think that she is a lyrical soprano with extended lower range.
I was in college and never heard it. It was obviously not a hit in the US. I loved her voice and I loved the Motels' music!
Martha, one word "Enchanting"
So good you keep doing what you do.
In your words "The beginning is near"
God Bless you, Love,
"Cousin Lisa"
God bless you Lisa J Landone!!
This album is so underrated! So many great tracks that were single worthy. I was so glad to see it recently released on cd again.
I love the Motels
Gotta lover her. She was the queen of drama rock. No one did it better!
I saw The Motels last night. AMAZING!
The Motels were HUGE in Australia, that is why Martha spent alot of time here. We appreciated their great music. When the band split, she released this wonderful solo album 'Policy'. The first single off it "Don't tell me the time' did quite well chart wise in Australia. This follow up single, charted poorly, but that is only because it didn't get enough airplay. The whole album is excellent, and was re-released on limited CD (digitally remastered) in early 2013 overseas. You will need to import it via e-Bay if you are in Australia. ENJOY!
Thank you for the information, Great track, back in Mexico it did not get to much air play due to the boom of Mexican rock but yet there were lucky ones like me who listened this song!!!!
I remember this getting a fair bit of airplay on Fox FM in Melbourne, actually. Surprised it wasn't a bigger hit.
We are certainly together and have new music 'Last Few Beautiful Days' on Amazon - Hopefully Marty, the band and I can make it back to Australia very soon! Stay in touch via our web site www.themotels.com and all our Social Media!
Captivating...both when she fronted the Motels, and then also, solo. It is difficult to set aside her stunning, unique beauty, from her musical talent. I read that she didn't like the focus on her appearance...Well. The music is what hit my ears first, then a stunning persona, my eyes. then, learning of your history. Great lady.
Martha is my favorite musician she is the maestro of the motels and an excellent singer.
My favorite song. I love Martha Davis forever
Oh yes! wow, I was looking for this video awhile back. I had this album on vinyl, long ago. I know its hard to get. Seen Martha and the Motels in concert 3 times, they are always great.
share the love!!! have been looking for years
have been looking for this for years, thank you!!!!
Beautiful video.
Absolutely beautiful.
I have it on vinyl...
Wonderful song by a wonderful singer! Too bad her album- Policy- is so difficult to get...
Fantastic lyrics!
Culture Factory just released this album! It's sick, it's like a replica of the original album although it's a CD. I hate that no one in the States knows Martha! Soooo underrated
Was able to find the CD on eBay for about $10. Had been looking for it for years.
I was very lucky to find this cd of Martha's for $15 then I found another one for a friend for $20, sence then I have seen them up around $200 for a cd. Wow
I'll carry this song to my grave, and the girl I couldn't have. Her name was Catherine and she took my breath away.

The Motels have a new album out. Get it.
David Fincher.
Love the album but it could have been a Motels album? Why did she break up the band and break the momentum?

They were always trying to get unique artists to sing Dianne Warren’s schmaltzy songs in the 80s hoping for a smash hit. This one isn’t bad and Martha does what she can with it, but still not nearly as interesting as Martha’s own songwriting.
Still a good pop song, I'm sure Warren herself also thinks highly of it, what happened to music in the 36 years since then hasn't necessarily been good or brought the art of songwriting forward. Rather, it's like the wheel's trying to be invented all over again with the simplistic folky type stuff of today's songwriters, at least in the '80s you'd often hear a guitar solo in a pop song like here, when did that ever happen last...
