I knew the Photoshop app was not as the same as the desktop version, and that some things were missing. But I never imagined that you couldn't use the pen tool on it!!! That is a really bad surprise and an awkward move from Photoshop! I love Photoshop desktop version, but with your Affinity videos I have found out that affinity was so fun and easy to use, that I've been using it non stop, now that I've got an ipad, and since then I never went back to use Photoshop on my laptop to edit photos. Affinity app is definitely a game changer!
I couldn’t agree more with you Angelica! AP really is amazing once you get into it and start using it, so happy my videos have been able to help you :)
I think Adobe has been dropping the ball for a long time. It would be one thing if there weren't any apps out there that could do what the desktop version of Photoshop can do, but there is!! Affinity photo, art pro(I think that's what it's called), Enlight to a certain extent, CSP, even Pixelmator back in the day did more that photoshop on iPad. Adobe is a massive company that clearly doesn't care about it's users. They could make a great app, it's obvious to everyone right now that they're just not putting in the effort in it.
Also a long term Adobe and Ps user and luckily I didn’t buy my iPad for Ps but thought it would be a great addition to have and I agree… totally useless for the most part currently… Illustrator is pretty good on iPad and Fresco is pretty amazing for art…
I just got the iPad 11 pro and the reason is for photoshop but I'm so sad that it wasn't complete but I am interested in trying the affinity. I'm going to binge watch your tutorials today. Thank you!
Your reason for getting an iPad Pro was the same as mine and like you I was sad but because of that I found out about AP iPad and I'm glad I did! Hope you enjoy my channel and learn lots and make awesome stuff! :)
So glad I found your review. I'm very curious since it came out and want to get the ipad pro for Photoshop work. I was holding on it for years cos of Photoshop. But no pen tool which is very useful for many of my photoshop work. This is disappointing. So will still have to stick to Macbook. This would have been awesome if they could put full version of Photoshop in this thing.
Thanks for your comment and yes I know exactly what you mean and this is why I too wanted the iPad Pro… hopefully they will add all the features in at some stage :)
I only have a MacBook Air and was deciding on getting an IPad but now that I’ve seen your video, it seems unnecessary. … I don’t think my MacBook Air will be useful for photoshop.. Should I go ahead and start with an iPad to learn the basics? Or what would you recommend if I wanted to start using Adobe photoshop?
If you wanted to learn Photoshop I'd def stay away from iPad at mo as Photoshop iPad is just not now at the mo, I'd buy a Mac (which one depends on your budget) but I honestly think that's the best way to learn it. If you wanted to do similar work on iPad I'd recommend Affinity Photo 2 iPad as that's what I use and love it :)
Hi! is it difficult to transfer files between photoshop on a PC and maybe sketbook or procreate on the ipad? Some changes are needed on photoshop, but my son loves his ipad..
Thanks Jocelyn and yes you can illustrate ok on PS iPad, but personally I would recommend illustrating in Procreate on the iPad, it really is fantastic! I hope to do a review and some tutorials on Procreate down the line, as it's very impressive. Hope that helps :)
Great video, I’ve been thinking about getting an iPad to see how Photoshop goes with an Apple Pencil but this does look disappointing! When you edit for photoshop, do you prefer to use a drawing tablet, or a mouse? And how does the Apple Pencil compare?
Thanks for your comment Jordana. When using Photoshop on the Mac I used a Wacom tablet (drawing tablet) and loved it. When I got the iPad Pro, I started using Affinity Photo iPad to cut out objects using the pen tool and then I would export it as a PSD and continue working on it on my Mac. Now I am just using AP iPad for this work. I still use Photoshop on Mac, and I use the Apple trackpad when I do. It’s been many, many years since I used a mouse. For compositing work, cutting out stuff, dodge and burning and more, I love the Apple Pencil and think it’s much better than my Wacom tablet, which I haven’t used since I got my iPad 2 years ago. I hope this helps :)
I already put my galaxy tab S8+ on the FB market for sale as i just knew photoshop was supported on iPad. I'm an avid Canva user recently since Photoshop was not supported properly for Android tablets, But the pen is supported there (a bit beta-ish) - but still missing on functions like layer selection, mask + clipping functions like in Photoshop. Are the pen support not supported at all? How do one select layers if pen was not supported? Maybe i missed something from your video, apologies if i did.
Thanks for your comment and question Nik! Apple Pencil is fully supported on PS iPad, sorry maybe I didn't make that clear in the video. So yes you can select layers with it (or your finger) etc. If you have or get an iPad (it's a good upgrade on your S8+) check out Affinity Photo iPad as its much better than PS iPad :)
Anyone else have this problem.....Initial install, touch shortcut button appears. Close PS and reopen, touch shortcut gone. Reinstall, touch shortcut back. Close and reopen, gone again. Frustrating!
Can you please make a video on. How much layers can M1 iPad Pro could handle on Procreate? Some says it can go up to only 18 layers. Please review it. 🤞
I will probably do a review on Procreate within the next month or two possibly… the M1 iPad Pro can have much more than 18 layers tho… I have the 2020 ipad pro 12.9 and it can have much, much more than 18 layers :)
It depends on canvas resolution and ipad ram memory amount. I use ipad air 4 and procreate and if i want to design something in 4k 300 dpi i have 29 layers available. Smaller resolution increases layers amount.
Hi have there been any updates on updating photoshop for iPad? If I use it for drawing would I be better off just staying with pc and getting an XP Pen or similar drawing pad?
Since this video, there have only been small updates to Photoshop iPad. If you do drawing, I would check out Procreate on the iPad, its amazing! I hope to do a video on it at some stage but def check that app out. I would use Procreate instead of PC/Mac & drawing pad etc. Hope this helps :)
