I was in college when this song came out. I remember dancing with my girlfriend countless times as we listened to it. We were young, in love and everything was possible. Every time I hear this song, I go back to dancing with her with this song framing the moment. It's a perfect memory I hope to keep with me for the rest of my days. Peace.

I actually just watched a cover of this by the lumineers that was really good! It’s a slower stripped down version just piano and vocals but really good
I dedicated this song to my sweet beautiful little sister - she just passed Saturday morning, and I miss her loads, much too young and she was so thoughtful and creative to introduced me to The Cure, when we were youngsters. She didn´t pass 50 years old. - this was one of her favorit songs. Just Like Heaven - I never forget it when she spoke about them! I am confident that you are happy and in a good place wherever you are, hermanita!! TQM!
Agh. Take me back. If there was ever a Time Machine. I’d love my child hood all over again. As hard as it was back then. The music- THE MUSIC! We lived in the best of times yall.
I was, arithmetic tells me, eighteen when this song came out, but sitting as I do in the vestibule of codgerhood, I find it difficult to believe that I was ever that young. The music. It is antic starlight in a dark winter sky, a melancholy slam-dance of love and loss. Wowzers. Where did life go?
I´m over my 37s and can´t believe that I didn’t listen this song before, its true a magnificent work. The sound of every instrument in companion with the voice and letter is as its described just like heaven
No it won't. It's too complex for today's ADHD crowd with the attention span of a goldfish. If it doesn't have the same 3 chords looping over and over while the singer sings the lyrics in a monotone (it's literally one note in most songs these days), then it won't be a hit.
@@NostalgiaforInfinity I think that's a bit unfair to some of the amazing artists that are finding success today. Even thought it's a different genre, someone like Kendrick Lamar has made one of the most instrumentally rich and complex albums of the past 30 years in To Pimp A Butterfly, filled with jazz chords and very technical delivery, and still found a ton of mainstream success. I understand people are always nostalgic for different times, but blinding yourself to all new music because of a preconceived notion that it's repetitive and dumb is just completely unfair
@@maxvermeij1779 Seeming complexity of music doesn't raise its worth. In musical terms Just Like Heaven is a pretty simple song and you can even hear all the instruments and parts they play if you really want to. But Nostalgia for Infinity said something different. He obviously didn't talk about overcomplicated and overproduced music but about mainstream and mummble rap. Check out the recent top songs and most viewed music videos and you will see that he's actually right about that. Now, I believe there are still some talented artists but they do go by unnoticed. One of the most talented songwriters of our time is Ron Sexsmith and no one know about him. So if this song was released today it's hard to say it would have been noticed. And it surely won't be among hits you hear on radio etc.
Growing up as a teen in the 80's, I never really liked the Cure, I was mainly into the pure synth pop music. My roommates in high-school LOVED the cure and played the all the time. Now that I am re-listening to all those songs from back then, I feel as if my heart is going to explode, I simply *LOVE* every single song, I feel so lucky because it's like I'm hearing it for the first time
Similar. I hated them in the 80's, thought they were boring and posturing. Revised my opinion recently and reject my stoopid youthful opinion. I recant! Love this band totally respect Robert Smith.
For some reason, I cry like a little baby when I listen to this song. It triggers so many different emotions in me that are so deep within me that I can't even understand it. It's overwhelming but it's comfortably overwhelming. It makes me feel just like a human being, fragile but with capacity to love someone, it's so great that I even don't know how to express this. Thank you, Robert...
This one song opened my eyes to a whole other world of incredible music I had no idea existed. I will always be grateful for that day in the 80's when I stumbled on this gem!
This is only just one of the many incredible 80's songs. Music which came from an amazing era like no other! I am an 80's baby myself...1981. I was however pretty much just too young for most of that decade to truly enjoy these symphonies of synthesizers and electronic music. I still remember these bands, and others like Def Leppard, Poison, Depeche Mode & Alphaville. The 80's truly had nostalgic hits, never to be witnessed or seen ever again. Music like this shaped the world I grew up in, and formed the person I would eventually become in this life. If only there was a way to travel back to those years again.

As a teenager and young adult, I listened to The Cure on and off. Today, at 53, everything has calmed down. Nevertheless, I always come back to this unique band and their introspective music. Timeless!
Its amazing that me an 18 year old could have possibly discovered such a timeless and truly beautiful song in the same lifetime as someone who was born decades before me, keep rocking man 53 years young I say.
In the 80s I was there, a rebellious teenager. I've never really liked New Wave bands and music. Today at 56 years old, after hearing this song on the radio, found it with Shazam, searched it on RUclips, I find myself remembering my old years. I am here as many others do, looking for something, for a loved one, for love, for memories of the past, for regret, for joy and happiness. I hope you all find what you are looking for.
This song changed my life and I'm not just saying that, it genuinely did and it is a complete masterpiece of a song and I'm eternally grateful for The Cure.
Lyrics: | "Just Like Heaven" - The Cure. | Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream, she said The one that makes me laugh, she said And threw her arms around my neck Show me how you do it And I promise you, I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you Spinning on that dizzy edge I kissed her face, I kissed her head And dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow Why are you so far away, she said Why won't you ever know That I'm in love with you That I'm in love with you? You, soft and only You, lost and lonely You, strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream You're just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must have been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes I find myself alone, alone Alone, above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You, soft and only You, lost and lonely You, just like Heaven. END.
In the 90’s I fell deeply in love with 😍 a guy from another state. He was so strong but so soft. 😢I had to let him go. This song makes me close my eyes and remember every moment I spent with him that slipped away. 😊He was my wonderwall. It ended like this song…😢. Totally worth it 😂! ❤❤❤ Story of the only guy I loved 🥰 who drowned deep inside of me. I was dating a guy playing me and when I realized it I met my Just Like Heaven guy
Anny Skod Me too! It's one of the first songs by them I listened to when I was 10-I'm almost 15 now and I can play it on piano. When I was like, 12-13 I only enjoyed it but now I get a rush of feelings that make me cry with overwhelm. And when someone asks me what's my favorite song, this song is the first one to pop in my mind. It's just a very beautiful song and I'm so happy I know it exists. And the piano solo at 2:10 is just… I'm in love with this song.
I still remember the first time I heard The Cure. I was a teenager in the early 90s and my friend gave me a compilation C-cassette that contained tunes from The Cure, Bauhaus, Love Like Blood, Fields of the Nephilim, Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division and Sisterhood. I was instantly hooked. I realized that now I had found bands and genre that would stay with me to the very end. And it has.
Hey Matti ! The Cure album I prefer is Pornography. I love The Same Deep Water as You too. But I find Lovesong, Friday I'm In Love or Boys Don't Cry too "mainstream". It's the kind of band I listen when I want to relax, with post-rock, ambient (Cigarettes After Sex) and Placebo.
Just saw The Cures performance on Radio 2s live lounge.Absolutely a thing of beauty. In these pretty dire times in 2024. Hope they lay anther 100 years!
My favourite Cure song. I love this band for 35 years now. So many memories from my time at school as a Teenager, falling in love for the very first time. I'm pretty sure, that tears will flow, when they play this one live on october 16th in Hamburg.
@@micahschulenburg9292 It was simply awesome. They are such a good band after all these years. Everything sounds quite perfectly. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Anytime again!
I now know this entire song by heart 😂. The drum fills, the bassline, the guitar chords the synths, the lead guitar and the vocals all of it. This is how much I love this song.
I saw them last night at the Xcel Center, Saint Paul!! The Cure was on my bucket list of bands to see. They are incredible, so talented, and still humble. I love them!! xoxo
The Cure had the ability to take a melody and turn it into the heart-rendering memory of that long lost teen girlfriend that you just can't help going back to to relive the pain the love made you feel.
Such song craft , such interesting way to make music, so haunting... been a fan since the 80's when I was in high school. The way the piano tinkles in an out and the guitar following gives me goosebumps
Fun fact: the woman dancing with the bride dress in the video 2:11 is Mary Poole. In Robert Smith dream, the rest of the band, with white shirts are watching them dancing a bridal dance. A few months later they really got married and they still continue together.
The guitar line, the melody and the voice of Robert Smith are so wonderful and great. It's a british band, you hear it from far away. Don't forget the lyrics of Cure. Great!!
Speaking as a lifelong lover of music, and after 74 years on this planet I’m always thrilled to listen back to music I clearly skipped over in my previous years because of listening to a concentration on jazz from it beginnings but also only as much as my waking hours would allow me.. It’s never too late to catch up and personally… it’s fab. I’m telling all my friends but truthfully, we are now so few.
Robert Smith, a true genius. Great music, lyrics and a real fine guitarist. The Cure has stood the test of time. Check out some of their recent concerts, just as good as 20 plus years ago.
My favorite song by The Cure. It was "our song" with my boyfriend all through my twenties (during the 90s), the one I thought I'd marry... the one who broke my heart. Still love this song so much.
An ex-girlfriend used to sing this song to me when we went out to the movies on weekends, many years ago. Now it's been a long time since we broke up, and every time I listen to 'Just like heaven' I remember her, singing to me. Wherever she is, I hope she's okay.
Was in both high school and college in the 80s. How blessed I was then when it was new and exciting, and now 40 years later to have these gems light up my brain and my smile.
Well seeing as we're all going to have a lot of time on out hands soon coz of quarantines and stuff, listen to their album Disintegration. It's a hour or so long, but it's worth every second, definitely The Cure's masterpiece

I’ve tweeted about it and commented on YT elsewhere, not one person interested in pointing out that the show’s creators have phenomenal taste, should’ve just come right here, a comments section full of people who have the best taste!
When you have someone their songs are sublime.. when you don't, they all have this weird, mournful loneliness in the way the music just drifts in and out. . .
This song still makes me happy all these later. I love you The Cure!!

Over 25 years ago, the wedding party and my wife and I walked back to this song after the ceremony. What a beautiful song! ❤

One of the things that I always appreciated abut The Cure is that their lyrics were legitimately poetry. Lots of imagery and metaphor and symbolism.
This is absolutely one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard. 26 y/o and just discovered it.

Might be one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Wonderful

Amen
I agree with you totally. The Cure is my nr 2 band after Depeche Mode.
This is the level of songwriting I miss in today's music. If this was released today it'd still be a hit. Timeless.
@iamtomjonmoon i wonder...you may be right ,very SADLY,yess indeed ... ( well, impossible to know for sure ) Long Live The cure
I understand people are always nostalgic for different times, but blinding yourself to all new music because of a preconceived notion that it's repetitive and dumb is just completely unfair
correct!
This song never gets old, it’s a classic by one of the best bands of the 80,s.
Thank you Cure, You're just like heaven. 🎶
I have no words to express how beautiful is this song
Pure genius x
I love it

Yeah it''s like it says, just like heaven
Its surely one of the best ever.
Growing up as a teen in the 80's, I never really liked the Cure, I was mainly into the pure synth pop music. My roommates in high-school LOVED the cure and played the all the time. Now that I am re-listening to all those songs from back then, I feel as if my heart is going to explode, I simply *LOVE* every single song, I feel so lucky because it's like I'm hearing it for the first time
I liked it ALL! Goth/ punk & PIL & Thompson twins as well.
Those were the days. Saw PIL in concert in Detroit 30+ years ago. Johnny Rotten mooned the crowd. Good times.
Similar. I hated them in the 80's, thought they were boring and posturing. Revised my opinion recently and reject my stoopid youthful opinion. I recant! Love this band totally respect Robert Smith.
😄 Agreed. I hated The Cure in 1987. Everyone else loved them......Now finally understand.

One of the most beautiful alternative love songs in the last 37 years. It's so timeless it's iconic and an absolute masterpiece.
"Just Like Heaven" - I like to dedicate that gorgeous tune in very loving memory of my heavenly-resplendent wife, Barbra Rose (RIP). "Strangest angel" 😇

Lyrics: | "Just Like Heaven" - The Cure. |
Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream, she said
The one that makes me laugh, she said
And threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you, I promise that
I'll run away with you
I'll run away with you
Spinning on that dizzy edge
I kissed her face, I kissed her head
And dreamed of all the different ways
I had to make her glow
Why are you so far away, she said
Why won't you ever know
That I'm in love with you
That I'm in love with you?
You, soft and only
You, lost and lonely
You, strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You're just like a dream
You're just like a dream
Daylight licked me into shape
I must have been asleep for days
And moving lips to breathe her name
I opened up my eyes
I find myself alone, alone
Alone, above a raging sea
That stole the only girl I loved
And drowned her deep inside of me
You, soft and only
You, lost and lonely
You, just like Heaven. END.
Thank u

In the 90’s I fell deeply in love with 😍 a guy from another state. He was so strong but so soft. 😢I had to let him go.
And the piano solo at 2:10 is just…
I'm in love with this song.

I hope fans are still discovering The Cure. Such a timeless sound.

Speaking as a lifelong lover of music, and after 74 years on this planet I’m always thrilled to listen back to music I clearly skipped over in my previous years because of listening to a concentration on jazz from it beginnings but also only as much as my waking hours would allow me.. No matter how you feel about The Smiths, the 90's, , or music in general... you just can't deny the power of this little song.
