I love how the tattoo artist do some background research on the ethnic and familial backgrounds of the client in customizing the tattoo pattern. I guess for these people (immigrants who grew up abroad) the tradition inspired tattoos really make them feel connected to Filipino culture which they were not or only partially immersed/experienced with unlike for us living here in Pilipinas where you don't often see people with that much tattoos with that pattern/style.
I am from the Cordillera in Northern Luzon, those native Tattoos are sacred in our culture, only few and only those who deserve can have it, not anyone can have, and we have high respect for those who were awarded with that tattoo or batak for their leadership/heroism in protecting our land, people and culture from invaders...

With all due respect to the indigenous ways, many of us in the diaspora, 2nd gen Filipinos are trying to find the true meaning of being a Filipino, Ilocanos or whatever your tribe may be. Considering the culture had always evolved and adapted to the surroundings, I don’t think we should slag off people who have had themselves inked with traditional marks, whether it may be a modernised design or not. Culture evolves, and I don’t think any of them have had these marks placed on them without trying tot figure their identity out. Providing they research and respect the markings, I don’t see the issue. Otherwise, that tattooing tradition would dissapear.

Yes please revive your culture, because it bugs me when I see Filipinos wearing Polynesian tattoos then saying that they're Filipino. Although they look similar there are VERY clear differences. Filipino indigenous tattoos are very lovely and very precious, be proud of them.

Guys were always focused on Cordillera because of the exposure kinda forgetting the "Pintados" in the Visayas region sailing all the way into vast pacific ocean.
This hit hard, my biological father left my mom before I was born, and even now as a 20 yr old, I have no idea what his name is or what happened and I personally don’t care, but I luckily had a uncle who’s helped raise me since I was born. He’s my uncle in name but my father at heart, “Not only say I love you, I’m gonna prove it” he passed away a few years ago, and I wish I could tell him how grateful I am that I had him in my life, his father in the video remind me a lot of him, his broken accented English, his mannerism, Filipino dads aren’t one to put their emotions out on their sleeves but they show their love and care by their actions

Mad respect to you man, I grew up at Northern Mindanao and moved to America at the age of 12. Within this time my dad wasn’t on the picture because he moved to the US to find a better job. I hated him and it was really hard to create a relationship to the point where I physically couldn’t say I love you. Only in the recent years where we had a heart to heart and told me that he left so that me and my sister can have a better life. (We gettin better but don’t think we’re at the going camping together phase haha) I also get my tattoos at Mark of the 4 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I feel that bro. I was born in CDO Mindanao and moved here when I was 5 and my dad didn’t move here till I was 15. Watching this video made me feel lucky. I was born in the Philippines and race here in the US. My mom as a single parent. But I never knew about the true culture of the Philippines. But because Spain and Americans came in the Philippines we forget the true culture of the Philippines. And mostly Philippines are mix bowl. Even the actors are half Filipino and half something. My dad side of the family. Are Spaniards and my mom side is from pampanga. ( hope I spell it right) lol. I didn’t know that we have our own letters too. Beside different dialects. Because now a days parents just forget to teach their kids.

Mad respect to you man, I grew up at Northern Mindanao and moved to America at the age of 12. Within this time my dad wasn’t on the picture because he moved to the US to find a better job. I hated him and it was really hard to create a relationship to the point where I physically couldn’t say I love you. Only in the recent years where we had a heart to heart and told me that he left so that me and my sister can have a better life. (We gettin better but don’t think we’re at the going camping together phase haha) I also get my tattoos at Mark of the 4 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I feel that bro. I was born in CDO Mindanao and moved here when I was 5 and my dad didn’t move here till I was 15. Watching this video made me feel lucky. I think it’s a hard thing for Filipino dads to tell their children they love them, in general, even if they do feel it. I guess it’s just the family dynamics.

My Mother told us we were Kalinga,she never mentioned about it thinking that it was not important,after the exposure of Apo Whang Od ,she talked about my great grand uncle’s who were traditionally dressed when she was younger ,I’m also Ilocano with roots of my family being Hilot’s (shaman medicine men)

Tattoos traditionally is a mark participation and accomplishments or else you can't wear them with pride. I wish you have your mark that give you pride to wear them. In the times tattoos are like military uniforms it brings pride to those who earned it to wear them. They are also like medals In that a few can wear.

I was born in the Philippines and race here in the US. My mom as a single parent. But I never knew about the true culture of the Philippines. But because Spain and Americans came in the Philippines we forget the true culture of the Philippines. And mostly Philippines are mix bowl. Even the actors are half Filipino and half something. My dad side of the family. Are Spaniards and my mom side is from pampanga. ( hope I spell it right) lol. I didn’t know that we have our own letters too. Beside different dialects. Because now a days parents just forget to teach their kids.
I love my baybayin tattoos of my daughter and son's name on both my calves.
