No! The 2 women were SAMOAN demi-gods TAEMA and TILAFAIGA. The popular legend is that they swam from Fiji. The other legend that makes more sense is that they swam from FITI (a village named FITIUTA on the big Manu'a island of Ta'u), and brought the tatau (meant for the women) as a gift from the chiefs of Fitiuta. Anyone know where I can look to see what are all the symbols and meanings of the Polynesian tattoo
Talk to a polynesian tattoo artist and tell them your roots, where you come from , how your ancestors got you where you are today and , your life story and family write your story and send it to a polynesian tattoo artist and he or she will make a good tattoo for me personally I think coming to hawaii and getting a polynesian tattoo is best if you want to plan a trip and see a good artist look him up on instagram " @nativefleshbrandon" hes one of the best polynesian tattoo artist alive
Apo wang od a 100+ year old lady still doing traditional hand poked filipino tattoos on the mountains of kalinga i can relate 🙏
This is awesome 🔥
Wow what an inspiring video🙌many Thanks for sharing it🖤
I have a question. I’m a 16 year old girl from Sweden and I’m wondering if it is okay for me to get a polynesian tattoo. I plan on traveling a lot when I get older and I would like to visit an island with Polynesian culture and learn about it. Would it be okay for me to then get a tattoo or is it something only meant for members of the tribes/culture? I’ve always been interested in foreign cultures but I don’t want to offend someone
Moa Kristenssom You should go for it learn all about the culture!!
Last I heard you have to earn the blessing of getting one, and if you got money to pay for one of these long sessions then almost any "chief" will embrace it, everyone has a price
@@LM-qv7cy I'm Hawaiian and in my honest opinion and a lot of tat artists in Hawaii as long as the person is pono there isn't a problem. I'm from Maui we have lots of full bloodied Filipinos who get Poly art and add Filipino things. It depends on ones motives for getting it are you getting it to look cool?
In truth it's hard to get a Poly art tattoo, the artist builds the tattoo on what you want but the placement of the tattoo is most important!
I personally wouldn't get one. You don't have to possess everything you admire.
I think it's beautiful.
this is beautiful
Where can i watch the reportage ?
To any people that are of Polynesian/Pacific Island descent in the comments would you consider it rude if someone not of this descent got a Polynesian tattoo even if they understand the meaning and tradition behind it?
Not me.
As a polynesian there are contemporary art designs of tattooing that u can receive but as for the ones u see in the video where they are tattooed from the waiste down I wouldn't consider u ask for that tattoo as it is very sacred to the samoan people unless u are married to a samoan and have very very close ties to the family and also fully understand what comes with it then sure u can receive it but it would be the family of the person ur married too that would have to give u the blessing to receive it but for anything else go right ahead as long as u respect it and the meaning it comes with it then u should be allgood to get ur tattoo👍
Malo usos. Keep up the good work.
Where is Season 1 ?
Does the poly tatts is for big guys only? Im prom philippines and i would like to ink it into my sleeve...tnx!
