Yep! Same here! I have ZERO tattoos. But I do love the artwork and even though I'm way too much of a commitment-phobe to put anything permanent on my skin, I have so much respect for the art form and its something that is obviously very difficult and takes a LOT of talent to pull off. And I also don't watch actual full episodes because in a 1 hour episode you got 22 minutes of commercials, and another 22 minutes of filler sh*t - like reviewing the last 5 damn minutes of what JUST HAPPENED before a commercial break. Watching on YT is the perfect solution- all I see is thr actual tattooing.

I agree, if you look at tribal tattoos most of the images face the armpit because thats the way the body flows. They are trying to judge based on traditional tattoo rules and not the ways that tribal tattoos are done

Agreed. I let a tattooer.. not a real artist, talk me into facing my tattoo the wrong way because of this theory. It was my very first tattoo. I was at a shop, but the tattoo was less than good. I started doing tattoos myself soon after. I was already an artist though. It's not like the tribal lion knows it's facing an armpit... 🤦♂️. In my opinion it flows good. I mean was he supposed to incorporate the tribal into its mouth or face lol..

These guys are all insane. That lion facing the armpit looked awesome and didn't need to be facing the center. There are no rules to creating art. I would have been happy with that tattoo.
unfortunately there are rules to creating a tattoo though, some styles just have a lot of rules if you want a proper tattoo to that style, but if I remember right for Tribal the facing outwards is actually right, the inwards is better for other styles for sure.
I love Chris’s Phoenix and it’s something I wouldn’t mind wearing, but it looks more like a peacock. And even though Angel’s flag on the ship is backwards I absolutely love that tattoo as well.
that tiger tattoo is absolutely *chefs kiss* beautiful. it is an aesthetically pleasing tattoo and is easy on the eye, not over whelming. i do not care if it is backwards (even though i don’t really think it is, many people get tattoos on their inner forearm) i would wear the hell out of that if it was on me
My Polish eagle half sleeve is facing backwards because I wanted it that way. It mimics the coat of arms and as it's in memory of my Opa, it feels like he's watching out for me; he has my back while I myself can look forward.
The whole "it's backwards" and "it's eyes are the wrong way" is bs to me, its art and art is subjective and everyone likes something different. The tattoos themselves are gorgeous.
Ye, I think it's because rules do exist and when you are in a competition you should probably be following those rules. Eyes forward can be a rule, and make tats with faces a lot more striking and easier to show off especially when you don't have to go around other tats and have all this free space to use. Plus, some styles just have more rules you got to follow if you want a true tattoo to the style, like Japanese.

Watch some more of the tattooed people. This rule is pretty good for most of the tattooers, because rarely there is such a unique design, that this particular rule could be thrown under the bus. Look on overall composition of the body, and "flow" of the tattoo.

@@Daydream_N the rules aren't made in the competition though, they are part of the tattoo industry, for example a Japanese tattoo is not a true Japanese style tattoo if it does not follow the rules made for that set style, and in reality the rules have been there every season. If you are aware enough to sign up for a tattooing competition, you're aware enough to follow the rules of tattooing.

I don’t know why mistakes that were seen *before* the tattooing started couldn’t be pointed out, considering that these things are permanent. The artist’s talent should still be enough to help them win. (The drawing, lines, saturation, etc. etc.) I remember the episode when the deity’s thumbs were backwards. I feel like the competitors who saw that and let it be inked onto the “canvas” any way, should’ve lost points.

The guest judges and past winners kept it fresh, and the technical knowledge and detail ed critiques really brings the suspense of how close or surprising an elimination or tattoo of the day is. (unless someone complete botched or dominated the challenge) The new judges/ host don't do for me. Luckily we have 10+ seasons I can re watch. To bad about Peck. We will never get that magic again...

In my 30+ years of tattooing I think I've only done three or four Actual tribal tattoos. Did plenty of random black designs though and I'm really not a fan of both doing the work and how it ultimately comes across afterwards
I feel like "faces pointing in" is an old way of looking at tattoos. If it's a lion or something like that, doesn't pointing out mean it's ready for danger? Like it can see it coming? It's a defensive or even offensive posture.
I think it depends on the rules you follow, typical tribal seems to face out or in this case the armpit, but more modern rules or other styles would have it be facing forward, like the coloured tiger in the intro it looks wonky if you try to show someone especially when they weren't having to work around other tattoos.
I'm not gonna lie i was pissed when shane o'neil became ink master, dude literally did the same thing over and over with little different things in between the other 2 in that finale deserved ink master they pushed themselves out their comfort zones except that one dude at the end

Chris made what was supposed to be a PHOENIX ... a Peacock! There is nothing about that that says Phoenix! The very meaning of the Pheonix is so important. Why, when you are on the chopping block and getting your last chance...would you completely change the meaning, representation and actually, EVERYTHING by making your weird Peacock? No one is even saying anything about the fact that it isn't even a Phoenix.

That is actually Japanese Phoenix. Just do a quick google search and that's how they look in that style. He says he was going to do a traditional Japanese Phoenix

The boat flag is going the correct way they are wrong about that. any image of a yacht / sailboat with a flag is the same as hers. Sails forward, flag back.
It does kind of defy the laws of physics though. If the sails are billowing forward, that means the wind is coming from *behind* them, i.e FROM *back* TO *front.* Which would mean the flag would also have to be following the direction of the wind, i.e FROM *back* TO *front.*

When travelling at speed for instance your hair will go towards the rear of the boat not the way the wind is blowing in the sails.
