For a scary/comedy movie for Halloween you need to watch the original 1981 Evil Dead. It's a cult classic. As a kid it was scary but as an adult you see how "campy" it is and it's just a lot of fun.
Interestingly that is a film that took me more like 3 viewings to appreciate, as you probably saw from my reaction. A lot of people were upset with me about that, but this is an honest channel - it is me reacting for the first time, and that film takes some time to sit with and ruminate on I think. Now that I have had some time since the video, yes I did like it.
Great reaction! My spooky season suggestions for you (if you haven't seen them yet): Creepshow (1982), Monster Squad (1987), Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988) and Night of the Creeps (1986).
Liked your reaction. You pay attention to details few do (I watch a lot of Reaction Videos). Also watched your Clash Of The Titans. You have an appreciation for myth. For history, etc. Consider this: I was the last student of this film's production designer/art department, John DeCuir. AFI film school 2010. Also a Mason like Brother Dan Aykroyd, the film's real creator. What you see in this movie is all basically true. Not just ectoplastmic residue, but the rituals and physics: Gozer's Temple is the Illuminated Pyramid/All-Seeing Eye, the Two Towers, Solomon's Temple (the dogs/lions, like the library at the beginning) and Crowley's "Scarlet Woman" (Dana) all at once. It's about stargates and higher-consciousness. And, the proton-packs: Same physics as the time-loop at Montauk in 1983 which shut the whole thing down (the real-life "Stranger Things"). Summer of 1983 . . . when Dan Aykroyd was a short distance away at Martha's Vineyard . . . writing this screenplay. I could go on but that's a rabbit-hole lit with a good '80s GB-like sign if you're curious.
And rheyre always from the nerdy unpopular losers that have a dire need to tell their fun facts to force their interests on everyone else cause they have no lives.

There was a BBC TV show from the early 90's called "GhostWatch". This had a "fake" phone number you could call. It also famously caused some level of panic because it was done as a TV outside broadcast at a suburban haunted house (based on the Enfield Poltergeist). What made it convincing to many viewers as a real event, was that ALL the presenters in the show were all REAL, well known BBC TV presenters, playing themselves. It was so controversial that it has never been shown on UK again. If you're interested, it could be worth a watch.
You mentioned how you would've liked to see some of the Ghostbusters cases during the buildup to the arrival of Gozer, when New York city was experiencing an exponential surge of supernatural phenomena. IDW Publishing have published a 4-issue series titled 'Ghostbusters Year One' that explores exactly what you were wanting. Framed by a writer conducting interviews to support her biographical look at the Ghostbusters, 'Year One' fleshes out the events mentioned but not seen throughout the movie and provides closure for elements left unresolved, such as the librarian ghost encountered early in the film.
Egon gave rise to Data, Billy (TMNT), and yes, Tech. Not sure offhand wht Egon's archetype was represented by in previous fiction. Other than Spock. : D
It is definitely an archetype that I appreciate (although Echo is my favorite in Bad Batch). I plan on reacting to the second Ghostbusters at some point, hopefully Egon will return!
Sigourney Weaver, eh? .. have you reacted to Galaxy Quest yet? (A splendid respectful Star Trek theme comedy) + oh! .. Spooky Movie Season? ... How about Evil Dead II (Sam Rami)? .. (It's not a sequel. It's his first successful Hollywood pro movie. it's a remake of his first student film: Evil Dead. )
Your observations are always cool. For a fantastic IMO spooky movie if you haven't seen CURSE OF THE DEMON aka NIGHT OF THE DEMON in Britain (1957), the British version is the best version, the American version cut some scenes unfortunately, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's very eerie, beautifully directed by Jacques Tourneur with a great perform romance by Niall McGinnis who played Zeus in Jason and the Argonauts. 👍
Yep, I remember those cards. I never had to actually use them (I've never been to a library so large that you couldn't just easily search the shelves), but I remember them, all right. For a couple of good, spooky movies, I'm going to recommend two of my favorites: 'House on Haunted Hill' (the original, with Vincent Price), and 'Return to Oz'. The former is just pure, spooky goodness - it's technically a horror film, but in practice, it's more like a filmic incarnation of every classic Halloween sound effect and prop you can imagine, all rolled up into one. It's great. As for 'Return to Oz', it is NOT technically a horror film, but it ought to be. It's creepy as hell, but it's also gorgeous to look at, well-acted, with great special effects that still hold up - and, as an Oz fan, I appreciate what they did with the source material; despite the scares, it is WAY closer to the spirit of the books than the MGM version. Both highly recommended.
I've read the Oz books as well - love them. Unfortunately I saw Return to Oz at the wrong age. I was I think about five years old, I saw it by accident at a friend's house, and it completely and utterly terrified me. All I remember are some talking heads now. I am sure it is a film I would like, but that experience was so scarring that I haven't seen it since! It's on my list for potential re-reactions to movies I haven't seen in 30+ years.
@@alexachipman Well, it's a good candidate for rewatching. I also first saw it when I was much younger (not as young as you did; I think I was in the second grade or something, but still, pretty young), and it frightened the hell out of me, too - but I still remember thinking it was good, even if I didn't want to see it again, 'cause I was a little chicken. Now, though, it's legitimately one of my favorite movies, and I honestly think that more kid/family movies SHOULD be a little scary - it's been my experience that the movies which freak you out as a kid, if they're any good at all, are often some of the most rewarding ones later in life, probably at least in part because they've already got that little hook into your psyche.
I would heartily suggest checking out the animated series! It really fleshes out all the characters, and many of those episodes were written by J. Michael Straczynski (Mr. Babylon 5). There's even an episode where the Ghostbusters fight Cthulu.
I enjoy your comments very much. We are such different people (age, gender, height, weight, politics, nationality and everything else) but I really feel a connection. I think it's your education and intelligence over most other reactors that makes the difference. Plus you happen to have chosen a whole bunch of my favourite movies. TV not so much Looking forward to much more.
In style and knowing humor, this movie feels like an encapsulation of a mid-seventies to mid-eighties Marvel comic translated to screen, despite not being based on an actual comic. (Think something along the lines of the Steve Gerber and David Anthony Kraft era of the Defenders or Gerber's Howard the Duck, but slightly more grounded in the real world and just a tad askew.)
Ghostbusters 2 is a step down from the first amazing film, but still worth watching. I think there were some issues behind the scenes, I can't recall what. A third movie never materialized despite decades of trying. A videogame did come out though that featured voice acting from the main stars of the film, and that's about as close to a third movie as you'll get, not counting the godawful reboot a few years ago with Kristen Wig.
I'm cautiously optimistic for the upcoming film. Keeping expectations to almost nothing, but willing to give it a chance. Hopefully we'll have a decent fourth entry. (The game being the third movie essentially)

3:49 regarding the phone number. Back then, a number starting with 555 was a fake number. You'll see a lot of movies of the time that had phone numbers would have a 555 exchange. After 1994 though the phone companies started assigning 555 numbers to regular people and businesses, so it's no longer exclusively a 'fake Hollywood number' anymore.

Yes, I do remember card catalogs. I only remember using my elementary card catalog as part of a class assignment where we were taught how to use them. I think the funky effects really suit the feeling of the film and that grimy era of New York. If they were slicker they would have felt out of place for the feel of the film.
The only effect that could have been better was the compositing of the Terror Dog in Lewis' apartment/hallway. It's the one weakness effects-wise, probably due to light balancing. They looked great (if a bit jerky) in the last act though.

I haven’t seen that in years, but remember it was a lot of fun!
Harold Ramis, Egon, is a great director too. He did a movie you'd like with Bill Murray called Groundhogs Day.
0:43 Yep. Up to around 1994, more or less, where I lived.
Liked your reaction. You pay attention to details few do (I watch a lot of Reaction Videos). Also watched your Clash Of The Titans. You have an appreciation for myth. For history, etc. Consider this:
I was the last student of this film's production designer/art department, John DeCuir.
That is fantastic, I appreciate you taking the time to send over these notes!
Fun fact: no, I'm just kidding; we all roll our eyes at "fun fact" comments on reactions.
Fun fact: fun facts usually aren’t fun and sometimes aren’t even facts.
And rheyre always from the nerdy unpopular losers that have a dire need to tell their fun facts to force their interests on everyone else cause they have no lives.
@@oaf-77 Fun fact: I'm one of those guys that does that. I try to make them all factual and fun... Like how one of the outtakes is Daina denying that she had sex with Lewis!
@@WheresWaldo05 Nonono, they're from people who love the movie or show and want to engage further. I don't belittle them for their enthusiasm. I'm just poking fun at the apparent lack of self-awareness with which it's done.
@@SuStel How the fuck is there an "apparent lack of self-awareness?" People who like sharing fun facts know exactly what they're doing and why. Seems to me like you really ARE belittling them for doing something you don't like.
This movie is a classic
I remember the card catalog in the 80s when I was a teenager...
This movie WRECKED the life of the actor who played Mr. Peck. EVERYONE kept shouting "HEY, DICKLESS!" ALL THE TIME. o.O
Love this movie!
I remember card catalogs - Did you notice the shocks were helping the young man get better?
If you haven't already ( I try to check first) please consider DRAGONSLAYER ( 1981)
Sigourney Weaver, eh? .. have you reacted to Galaxy Quest yet? (A splendid respectful Star Trek theme comedy)
+ oh! .. Spooky Movie Season? ... How about Evil Dead II (Sam Rami)? .. (It's not a sequel. It's his first successful Hollywood pro movie. it's a remake of his first student film: Evil Dead. )
Alas I have seen both of those, but great suggestions!
If you want to see more comedy horror , watch Young Frankenstein and High Anxiety.
The special effects in this are far superior to the 2016 'remake'. it's basically the one and only good entry in the series.
I love yu for the surprise Beebo!
Sounds intriguing, thank you!
Night of the demons 1988 horror classic also recommend the 80s film sorority babies in slimeball bowl o Rama 🍕

Slimmer - cute name for the ghost! He's great!
Slimer because he slimes you when he passes through you, link "Dr." Vinkman.
14:30 thought the effects looked just fine.
TV not so much
Looking forward to much more.
Thank you! Most of the videos are suggestions from viewer comments, so they are the ones with excellent taste!
Great movie 🍿
In style and knowing humor, this movie feels like an encapsulation of a mid-seventies to mid-eighties Marvel comic translated to screen, despite not being based on an actual comic. (Think something along the lines of the Steve Gerber and David Anthony Kraft era of the Defenders or Gerber's Howard the Duck, but slightly more grounded in the real world and just a tad askew.)
So true!
Literally my favorite movie. It's the greatest. Being in the same age group, I have no idea how you escaped the 80s and 90s having not seen this film.
I would recommend Ghostbusters 2. It's a good sequel.

11:15 this reminded me of getting back to our hotel room in New York…the weekend of the July 2019 blackout🥵😨😅
Yikes! That sounds like a lot of stairs to climb! I think the biggest shock I ever had at a hotel getting to my room was in the elevator. The next floor opened and about ten pirates ambled in, all talking with "Arrr" type language. It turns out there was a pirate convention at the hotel that I didn't know about!
"Innerspace".. as in the space inside someone, as opposed to "Outer-space". You may have focused too much on the word "space" in the title 🤣 to be fair Joe Dante didnt like the title either
For horror-comedies, *American Werewolf in London* , *Shaun of the Dead* , and *Return of the Living Dead* are all very good.

Good to know!

I think the funky effects really suit the feeling of the film and that grimy era of New York. If they were slicker they would have felt out of place for the feel of the film.
Excellent point, I agree!
The only effect that could have been better was the compositing of the Terror Dog in Lewis' apartment/hallway. It's the one weakness effects-wise, probably due to light balancing. They looked great (if a bit jerky) in the last act though.
@@StCerberusEngel If I remember the effects team basically had no time to make the effects. I think alot of stuff was first or second takes, not much if any time for fine tuning of compositing. It's really a testament to their skill it looks as good as it does.
