Bit of a horse-lover's tidbit : Most of the major horse rearing cultures ( arabs, europeans, turko-mongols, etc) have different horses in attributes : The European horse is huge, sturdy and has good high speed stamina. The Arab horse on the other hand, is lithe and a very good jumper. Fast in short bursts and very agile. That is where you get the funny bit of 'horse-racism' in the movie. PS: For those who want to know - the Mongol horse is the absolute best horse in the world for endurance. Its not very fast, its not very lithe, its not very strong, it cant jump very high, but man can it keep galloping for 3x the distance any other horse breed's best horse ever can. That is why the Turko-mongols developed hit & run archer cavalry tactics - tactics not readily adopted by Iranians or arabs ( also dry climate people who can afford to make bone-bows and not have them warp in humidity)- their horse is the equivalent of 110m olympic steeplechaser, the euro horse is a bit like the triathlon man but the mongol horse is the marathon champ of all time. You cant catch it if it has enough of a head-start.Ever. Hence hit and run. Iranians ( who had the now extinct Nisaen horse- also a Euro-like big and sturdy horse) & Euros preferred heavy cavalry frontal charges coz their horses are just strong as hell an can bash through men like kid through hay-stack and iranians are the first to develop true heavy cavalry ( as in highly armored lancers) and what is amazing, is they created it before stirrups existed - which is the one essential thing you need in every other culture's history to make heavy cavalry.

Hi Alexa I hope you are happy with this Dr Who story from classic Who, and also I hope other monochrome Dr Who stories are released in colour like for example the Patrick Troughton Cyberstory the Tomb of the Cybermen which is one of the earliest paperback target novels I got and been a classic story that was lost for over 20 years before it turned up in a vault in Hong Kong with other missing television episodes from various programmes. I like Tomb of the Cybermen it is awesome in billions of ways, and also it is my alltime favourite Cyberstory and favourite Patrick Troughton story . Tomb of the Cybermen is such an awesome story in billions of ways, and well made well written and also produced too.

I saw one review where they said this episode was a weak episode, but personally it’s one of my favourites. When Servalan is on the big screen and all you see is her mouth, and you realise it’s all been a trap the whole time, that just makes the federation seem completely indomitable. I also like that they tied it back to episode one, it just sucks that Venn Glynd was played by a different actor because the first time I saw this episode I didn’t realise it was him. But going back and rewatching the pilot and paying attention to the things Glynd says you realise they probably had this planned from the start and it’s great continuity.

Hello again Alexa, The Navy Uniform you sported was marvellous. I'm sure a formal foto shoot would be appreciated. Lesbian and Gay rights, women's rights, and the sadness of early LGBTQ+ lit, films etc. You figured out the ending, I never did. I was suprised til the end but I love a film that dovetails back into itself like Joyce's Ulysses. My two favorite lines. Auntie's "He's got Money and she has land and neither of them have any brains" That one reminded me of my tough Irish relatives. And "I was a soldier when you were still a toss up between a boy's name and a girl's name" I love British Cinema because I think the people lend themselves perfectly to the medium. the Quirky dialogue, restrained but ever present emotion. The underlying good manners mixed with a tocuh of sarcasm and good humour. Not overlooking the talent in all areas of production. I'm also fond of Oscar and his wit. Lady Bracknell "A woman should never be too exact about her age, it makes her look so Calculating" All the Best Jacques (pronounced as in Shakespeare Jay-QUEEZE) I'll be keeping my eye out for you (like the Grey Sisters)

Hello Alexa, I'm a Film buff and just this week saw The Life & Death of Col Blimp. We found it a bit slow to start but there was a huge emotional payoff as it moved towards its end. I always watch a film knowing NOTHING about it first and then read reviews and reactions like yours. You asked for some war movie recomendations. I checked what was already recommended to avoid duplication. First for me is Abel Gance's Napoleon, 1927. Ivan Tarkovsky's Ivan's Childhood, 1962 Akira Kurosawa's Ran 1985. Hope this helps. Jacques Mexico

A few notes. I also love Rooibos Tea. I enjoy food from all over the world. Being Irish-American, 4th generation and Puerto Rican, my mom was born there we have our own particular National Closeted Skeletons. Hearing you speak of the South African Concentration Camps (Boer War) was the second time I've heard of them. The First time was in Hans Jurgen Syberberg's Hitler, A Flim from Germany, 1962. it's a sprawling examination of AH and his Central role in 20th century history. It mentions how the Reich copied concentration camps from the Boer war. (I highly recommend this film as well even though it's classification as a war film is tangential) Thanks Again Alexa. See you in Part 2.

13:30 - The riot on the Tuesday that Thorn was working riot detail was deliberately engineered by the Soylent Corporation.. It wasn't that the Soylent Green had run out, Soylent Corp intentionally scaled back it's delivery to nothing. The clue is the old lady shouting about being given a quarter of a kilo.250 grams is 0.55 pounds of Soylent Green which was meant to carry her and her family until the next Tuesday. This was it would be easier for Gilbert, the assassin of Simonson to take out Thorn in the chaos of a riot. What Gilbert used was likely a Fallout style pipe pistol zip gun which was probably a common weapon among the lower classes of New York. Easy to make, easy to take apart.

Hi Alexa!. Thinking about this movie again :) Maude's purpose was to teach Harold about himself, and just as important, how to love. When Harold received Maude's unconditional and 'complete' love it taught him HOW to love. Once that was done, Maude was no longer needed (from a storyline persective). And at the end, she encouraged him to go, 'love some more', as an indicator their work together is done. And the cherry on top, the final scene Harold plays his banjo, a symbol of his own identity. That's how I interpret all of of this.

Ah yes, decades before "Supernatural" decided that the fourth wall was strictly optional... though this also reminds me of those occasional stories where Sam and Dean are presented with some illusion of another, easier life as a lotus-eater trap or a test of their resolve. Notably, though, in spite of his real life being less than enviable, Straker is never tempted by the illusion. As in "Timelash", he may not be as powerful or knowledgeable as his enemies, but he's unbeatable when it comes to a contest of sheer willpower. It's also nice to see him having come to a place of genuine care and acceptance for his SHADO family, concerned for Nina, bitterly upset at having shot Beaver, shocked at Henderson's (or possibly "Grant Taylor's") indifference to them, and fighting like all hell to get back to them where he now belongs. "Prisoner" vibes indeed - like "The Schizoid Man" crossed with "Living in Harmony". Also, that giant white hand would do Saruman proud... Love the nightmare chase sequence (especially with the payoff of the awful stunt double), Sylvia Anderson cameoing as her eldritch nightmare self, and above all evil Michael Billington in the cinema. The nasty little smirk he gives when Ed departs, when he seems close to cracking, could even hint that the alien rock is a living, and malicious entity. Given Jackson's theory that the humanoid pilots may all be lobotomised slaves / zombies, perhaps even something nearer to their true form? Though if that is the case, small wonder the aliens don't make a habit of this strategy (While Rocky may be powerful by paperweight standards, still...). Curious how well the western theme goes with SF. "Red Dwarf", "The Prisoner", "Star Trek" on multiple occasions, and of course "Star Wars" all played successfully with that genre. Not so much classic "Doctor Who", alas. I wonder if the crew just found that cowboy town set in Pinewood and decided "we just have to find an excuse to use that... and we'll break out the giant white hand while we're at it." On a last note, normally I disapprove of "clip show" filler in episodes, but for such heartbreaking purposes as this I make an exception... "The juvenile? Great little actor." Oh, evil Mike, how could you?

Hi Alexa I do say the control pane in the pursuit ship C-26 which is leading the attack on the liberator and also is later commandeered by arch-enemy Servalan herself and 3 female Mutoids to travel to the planet Exbar in pursuit of her former henchman Travis has the same control panel seen three weeks earlier in Dr Who serial the Armageddon Factor which ended the Key to Time s tory arc and the ship it previously appeared in was the Marshal of Atrios,s ship which he took out to in attempt to destroy the planet Zeos with. I also liked the way Joban told arch-enemy Servalan herself that Blake and Travis impeded progress, and that they must be both dealt with asap and also the Federation wanted Blake,s head . It was nice to see a high ranking Federtaion official giving the principal villain Servalan a grilling and telling her almost Servalan is not quite good enough and the attack of 20 plus Pursuit ships on the Liberator faling was not quite good enough and Blake and his crew needed dealing with.

So pleased that you're watching this!! It's not well known, but is beloved by so many people, me included just for the eeriness. (the fact that Sapphire actress Joanna Lumley was an incredible sex symbol at the time didn't hurt either, check out The New Avengers) To be honest, it's hard to make sense of the ins and outs of everything story-wise, but that doesn't matter, it's the mood, and they got that down perfectly. Will be watching you all the way to the end!!!

I would like to suggest a few different shows for pilot watching. Let me know if you already saw them. 1. Legend (1995) 2. Time Trax (1993) 3. Cleopatra 2525 (2000) 4. Jack of All Trades (2000) 5. Brisco County Junior (1993)

Jack of All Trades is such a lost gem of a show!

When Will says, "No, it's not you I heard" I still get chills.

I haven't read all the comments on your reactions, but I am sure someone has mentioned that the music from the series is on the Clannad CD entitled "Legend."
