WHY would you spoil the Golden Age Arc for people who stumble upon your short vids and haven't seen Berserk?! This question of do Griffith's ends justify his means doesn't have any weight or significance to anyone who hasn't gotten invested in Berserk. So all you did was spoil the heck out of an amazing story for new viewers. Good job.
He didn't bring peace to all mankind, in fact he monopolized peace, when he created falconia, made it the only place with peace in the world dooming everyone who is not in his Kingdom
Yes, but there would still be alot less peace if he and his kingdom was not around, many kingdoms and species would still be fighting even in midland and the 100 year war would also be ongoing everywhere, falconia is only a peaceful place because of him, even if he's only using the peace for his own gains there's very less chance that there would be peace anywhere in midland

He literraly CREATED enemies and destroyed them later 💀
Precisely mirrors how he created friendships and then destroyed them later. The great writing of Griffith is that hes just steeped in irony. He creates the band of the hawk to become king - he then destroys the band of the hawk to become king. He claims to only respect friends that also follow their own dreams, yet him saying this is precisely what causes Guts to pursue his own dream, breaking griffith and ultimately causing him to destroy his own dream. He saves Casca from getting r*****, leaving her eternally loyal to him and later that loyalty to him is repayed with him r***ing her. He is made of evil irony right down to every last scene. His unwillingness to chan ge for his loves ones is a common theme - he beats guts in a duel and then years later looses to guts in a duel because he doesnt change his tactics from the first one. (Man really thought he could stop Guts' heap of raw iron with a tooth pick one handed)
Griffith is evil, but only in a secondary sort of way. He is evil as a product of his miserably ironic sense of entitlement to what he wants over the wellbeing of the people he loves - who should really be his true dream, but narrow Falconlike vision for the nothingness shit dream he cobbled together as a little kid is precisely what left those cobblestones bare in the first place. Oh Griffith...

Let's say Griffith had a USA phase
Didn't Griffith cause the outbreak of demons on the land and is now taking advantage of that to seem like a hero
I think the demons only show up around guts because of the brand, and looks like it's the whole world because we follow guts around
@@RainOn2SunnyDay that's true that we see more demons around guts but post Griffiths rebirth it is explained the veil between the worlds are weakened causing the troll crisis and such we see. Also him creating falconia literally destroys the remaining barrior between worlds with falconia being the only safe place left, so halfway through conviction and post conviction all the supernatural problems people have (not including guts and his party) are directly caused by Griffiths
@@RainOn2SunnyDay no, after the resurrection of Griffith everyone started facing the demons, even normal people and apostles became a common occurrence.
Not only that, Griffith sems the only one to able to command the demons and apostles AND seen as hero.
Griffith didn’t cause it, Skull Knight did. Guts lives in the interstice, the place where the spiritual world and the human world combine. Some people, usually people in rural areas like villages, can see things, such as elves, from the spiritual world because they have a looser belief of what does and does not exist. Skull Knight, attempting to kill Femto/Griffith, used his Sword of Behelits and created an astral fissure colliding the two worlds into one. Ironically, allowing Guts’ sword to slay actual dragons if he wanted to. Griffith does take advantage of the situation, but he didn’t outright cause it.
Griffith is the only villain that actually made me angry. Brilliant

What's worse is Griffith doesn't feel evil, he doesn't see himself as the evil, he never thought about what he did, he just keeps looking up and striving towards his dream.
That’s how most evil people are in real life. They don’t think their actions bring harm and pain
Nah thats just good.
I feel like the only time griffith truly cared about something was when he met guts, he cared about guts but the moment guts left, he lost every bit of humanity ini him
That’s because he literally isn’t
@@CSWdenji69rape is pretty evil if you ask me, stop sucking griffith D
He's am amazing villain. He's understandable and sympathetic, but also irredeemably evil.
He's not really sympathetic lol
@@eclypse5081 depends on the perspective, I personally find him sympathetic as well
Throughout the Band of the Hawks' Undefeated Streak, Griffith was trying super hard to stay strong and not let guilt eat away at him because of the casualties. At this point, he's still sane, like Casca said, even though Griffith's a different breed from the rest of them, in the end he's still human
Guts' Presence can be said to be what's keeping Griffith from going mad out of guilt, unbeknownst to even Griffith himself, Guts became an irreplaceable person in his life, to the point where Guts' presence alone is enough for him and he later on realized that Guts' importance to him was equivalent to his Dream
After being left by Guts and tortured for a year, to the point where he's a lifeless corpse, Griffith's mind was only filled with Guts, keeping him sane actually. He tried hard to hate him, but when he sees Guts again, he realized he can't actually bring himself to hate him, to the point where he's willing to just live a Normal Life with Casca
Well, in the end, he was presented with a choice, his Dream or the Band of Hawks, and he unfortunately chose the former, because for him to not be consumed by Guilt brought by his Actions in the past, he HAD to convince himself that 'the end justified the means', if he stopped chasing his dream, the dead won't forgive him and he'll live his life regretting not chasing it when the power to accomplish it is right before his eyes
At the very least, that's my take on Griffith's Character
@@kylenunez2820 he’s not sympathetic. Stop retelling the story again and again when anyone wants to say something good about him, even he sheds a tear in regret for his actions. There’s nothing sympathetic about greed and selfishness.
@@zzodysseuszz ever heard about an opinion? I have the same opinion as the Main Commenter here, "understandable and sympathetic, yet irredeemably evil", and I just stated why I find him like that. If my reply didn't convince you to find him of the same opinion, then that's your opinion, no need to admonish mine
If you misunderstand my comment in anyway, what I meant is that Griffith was trying hard to be Perfect as well when he's at his highest, the only person who knew his Cruelty and Dark Side was Guts. Is that not sympathetic?
Guts is also his only Friend and he didn't realize it till he lost him, he tried to keep him for his own because deep inside he's the only Person he relies on and would actually die for. This is what caused his dream to momentarily falter
And no, I never meant to justify his actions and choices on the Eclipse, its just my personal take on his Thoughts at that time. At that time, my anger didn't seep through till that bastard literally raped Casca in front of Guts just to spite him and prove to himself that he didn't need Guts. This is what sealed the deal for me, his Past Self IS the sympathetic one, not his Post-Eclipse self, forgot to put distinction there honestly

Facts guts you was already equal if not above Griffith not social status or power but as a MAN

@@hyouka4567 Admittedly I was a tad happy when I finally figured out/realized that the baby is indeed Guts and Casca's, and perhaps expelling the influence of Griffith and returning Casca to normal could at least heal the unjustice done to Guts during the eclipse.
I don't think Guts even needed to be mentioned he graped the woman who believed so strongly him and trusted him completely.
Casca wasn't just his 'best friend's girl'. She was the woman who followed this asshat for years, served him, and put her life on the lines many times for him LONG before Guts ever showed up. Not a fan of seeing Casca being boiled down to 'Guts girl' over and over when its comes to this convo. She was basically asshat's right hand person until Guts came along. That was one of the reasons she despised him in the beginning.
Griffith isn’t an example of a morally ambiguous antagonist. He’s an example what makes someone become irredeemably evil.
Absolutely fucking not. He doesn’t care for evil he’s just extremely ambitious. Guts shouldn’t be bitching about Morals when he chose to be a mercenary.

Gonna be so real. Dumbing down Griffith’s character to “evil for no reason” or “just a bad guy” is such a slap in the face to miura. The man spent years constructing a deeply complex character just for people to perpetually ignore and hate on.
Yeah, he just trying to fullfil his goal, just like a homeless man killed his whole family, harvesting their organs and selling them to the black market and he became millionaire in no time
Ok but it’s true, and you would know that if you’ve read Berserk🤨 he’s a deeply complex character who is innately evil. The fact that he was destined to become a god hand member is evidence enough but that’s only 1 aspect of his evil nature. Did we read the same series?
@@jbstarkiller4626 Listen I did read berserk, and I acknowledge that my position on griffith’s character can pretty much only be obtained if you’ve ever been abused or tortured. As I have, And have gone to therapy and physiatrists I know how horrifying and painful it is. How the perception of my world changed, that the person I was before my trauma was effectively dead. Very VERY few people understand that feeling of being robbed of everything like that. So when I see griffith just before he becomes femto, I see myself in him, what I could have become if I hadn’t received help. Griffith, unlike me, didn’t have therapy, lived in a ruthless world where you don’t get pity, you don’t get a chance to talk about your feelings ((especially with him and no one else being able to properly communicate with him)). Griffith, is so realistically written to what happens to victims is a fault. Never, have I ever thought a series would write a character like this- not only that but he was literally manipulated into saying “I wish” like- seriously imagine being severely mentally ill, you’re hallucinating, you can’t place ur real emotions anywhere, you literally want to kill yourself. Then god like beings tell you that ur friends want you to sacrifice them? Like- this isn’t your typical “friendship can save everything guys! You just gotta believe!!!” Kind of anime- it’s painfully realistic. And yeah I don’t like what femto did, or how griffith turned out, but that wont stop me from seeing the reasoning behind his actions, the actual steps it took him to get there. I’ll love the characters that Miura spent years of his life creating, yeah! And I’ll like griffith I’ll appreciate femto as a villain cause- you know at the end of the day he isn’t real.
Griffith IS evil for no reason though, he has ambitions and some of it can be justified but doing what he did to casca was out of nothing but pure evil for no reason.
“Do ends justify the means?”
Let’s see. The means were sacrificing the people who trusted him the most, raping the girl who figuratively worshipped him, releasing demons into the world, among other things.

He admired Guts because he's the only one he could see as his equal hence his friend. The friend that turned his back on him when he needed him most. He became to reliant on Guts that he lost his composure when Guts left him.
Griffith released the demons so that he could beat the demons so that he could fulfill his dream of becoming a king.
"Yes it still is" literally exactly what I said right after you asked the question
"Do ends justify the means" bro it gave me code geass vibes
Didn't one of the godhand members say that he was chosen because he had the qualities of a demon?
Cause he can throw it all away that easily.
There’s also a good chance falcona brings humanity together for a massive sacrifice
Thats what think too there will be a great bloodbath maybe Griffith want to be some omnipotent God or whatever
@@meti326 Although it’s a bit of a stretch I think it has something to do with guts holding the behelit and possibly him or casca using it
@@charlieehrbar6915that would be awsome but what would they Sacrifice? for me it looks like Griffith needs to sacrificing the greatest trust in destroying all of Falconia and the People who belive in him
it is disheartening that he sacrifice his band to gain power.
Finally someone who’s actually human
The issue is that griffith isn't Griffith anymore, or so at least it seems that way. Hes been kept at an arms length for so long after his reincarnation through guts and cascas child that it's hard to tell if he's satisfied.
Even Miura thinks you're wrong.
Evil comes from weakness

"Is it justified to kill him?"
Me: *laughs like the question was a joke* ... *Doom guy music plays*
It’s a shame we will never get to see Guts decision on dealing with him
Isidropkicks him, skull knight exorcises the moonlight child, and then everyone beats Griffith to death.
Happy ending
yeah I don't think rape is justifiable either way
Griffith was NEVER chill.
Remember that griffith sell his body tô protect the band ,and get me sword
Didn't he mention something about a coble stones and achieving his dreams.
He did it to advance it wasn't all that selfless, but nice try.
I'm not a Griffith hater but he did that for his dream, not to protect the band
Griffith is such a kid, lashing out at everyone around him just because guts left him
Griffith is honestly the perfect Targeryen, and I’m not even talking about looks either. Everything about him is the perfect character.
"He's evil?"
Always has been 🧑🚀🔫🧑🚀
Do the ends justify the means? I would argue that sometimes, yes... because the ends in of themselves limit what means you can use to reach it. Gaining power is a very different end than keeping power, and thus require very different actions to arrive to the desired end.
The problem with Griffith is not the means he uses to reach his desired end, but rather that the end he wants to achieve is unethical and problematic.
You had me in the first half but stumbled at the end, creating a Kingdom of Peace and Prosperity isn't unethical, but having your godlike homies bring demons into reality to force mankind into your "cage of peace" is.
@@melancholyman369 I admit, I have not kept up with Berserk, but as I understand the character of Griffith, his main driving force is to be superior to others, that is why his dream was to be the emperor of a kingdom. That is the reason he thought of Guts and the band of hawk as subordinates, that is why he forces himself on to castca when he is rescued. He became femto becausr it was the shortest path to feeling superior to others.
His desire to rule didn't come from a place of concern for his subjects, but for his need to feel superior. Those 2 motivations have different possible means to achieve them.
@@melancholyman369 or you know killing you’re allies and even fucking a princess is a bit stupid and selfish
@@melancholyman369 plus he never cared for his allies as they were tools for his goals and ambitions
@@Channel-23s he DID care for guts which caused his downfall
What I personally believe happened was once bested by Guts, Griffith realized how not so untouchable he really was and how badly he needed Guts. Guts’ departure sent him spiraling into depression and an existential crisis. Griffith then foolishly enacted his plans too soon with sleeping with the princess, thus getting himself caught and tortured.
Evil is still evil even when theres sprinkles on top
He's willing to do anything to accomplish his goals. But the r*ping of Casca will always stick out.
He was willing to do that to one of his oldest companions just to get revenge on Guts for leaving him.
Of course he is straight up evil. Everything he’s done in his life has only been for his own gain.
Hasnt that been the case for all of us

Answer to the title: yes.
There’s only one word that describes him. Despicable.
He purposefully did not kill Ganishka and made him feel “small”/“insecure” to churn his ego and made Ganishka loath him enough to transform into that big chunk of tree or whatever. Griffith KNEW what he was doung. Everything he did was so calculated but dam. Did that slap from Rickert felt so satisfying
The 6 sets of wings on Falconia's entrace gate definetly gives the symbolic message that the author thinks this is still all evil
Miura last words for berserk finale:
Guts use the behelith to be equal to Griffith so now he can attack him. Griffith to not lose sacrifices all Falconia to become God. In that moment. Schnoz shows up, beats Griffith and achieve world dominance.
a good bad guy is when the bad guy looked as the good guy by the other character who doesnt know the bad guy backgrounds
No and he loves Feral.
Nothing can justify what he did to Casca
But Casca enjoyed it...

I got into berserk not too long ago, and honestly, it's an incredible story. Showing the exact contrast of Griffith, being ambitious and driven, where Guts has no purpose and only does what he is told.
It shows the true horror humanity can inflict on ones self and how there really isnt much of a true form of retribution, and how an act of paracausal, otherwordly action can truly change a person.
Its a shame the writer died. And how we wont get a true ending because it would've been amazing to see Guts and Griffith fight one more time and reset the world
