What sets this apart from the movie scene is the sudden change in color palette, from blue/green to red/black. It makes everything feel wrong without having to say so.
I thoroughly enjoy the color scheme of the “hellscape” (I don’t know it’s name only just watched the anime/movies) in the anime compared to the movies. The dark purple of the movies is “newer” technology and cool looking, but idk that red in the anime really invoked something in me, it highlighted those tortured horrific faces and that hellscape, whereas the darker purple, while also giving a cold feeling (which isn’t bad), makes you really have to peer to see just what kind of a hell agony world you’re in (I get it though, they are beings and bringers of “darkness” why should their be light?).... I’m glad they have both these versions, really different vibes from both portrayals, all awful
For those mistaken, the dream scene of Griffith and Casca together isn’t a dream of an alternate future, it’s how Griffith sees how the rest of his life plays out. He’s unable to continue his real dream, chair-ridden with a blanket to keep his useless legs warm, being taken care of by a devout, caring Casca who refused to leave him, all whilst knowing she will always pine for Guts, which is why their child is named so. Being made to be content with a regular, quiet, peaceful life, a far cry from his dream of his own Kingdom. The Egg of the King appearing from the spoon is meant to represent how it’s the only way out for him, and escape from the mundane.
Interesting take. I always thought it was what would have happened had he decided to set aside his dream and settle down instead. His great victories behind and his riches made and spent, he owns a humble amount of farm land and a hamlet and makes a decent income. He's now a petty lord or landed knight, a family man and has duties to his king/lord and to Casca his now wife and mother of his son. While now somewhat happy with peace the dream of what could have been will forever haunt him and smolder in his mind, like what he describes to Princess Charlotte by the fountain. The fact also that Guts is perhaps still out there in this scenario also probably weighs on his mind: While Griffith had now long abandoned his dream, Guts by contrast is still searching( or perhaps has even found) his dream and is living it for himself and no one else. While moderately successful and possibly a member of the Gentry and now as far as we can tell a decent man, he has become what he fears and often resents: A mediocre man who has forsaken his desires and lives a life now more so for his family. In his worldview better men(Guts) still strive to achieve their dreams while he now sits and will ponder till the end of his days of what could have been.
@@user-wg8nb2uj8y I don't know why people upvoted your comment because it's wrong. Griffith had no knowledge of the impending Eclipse. The reason he didn't want Guts to touch him again is quite complex. Griffith had come to depend on Guts as an emotional crutch. It almost destroyed him the first time Guts left, but Griffith forgave him inside the dungeon. When he overheard Casca telling Guts to leave *again* his mind snapped. When this chapter was first published, Griffith's actual quote was "If you touch me now, I will never forgive you again..." but Miura changed it to something more ambiguous. However, the sentiment remains.
@@renesandoval7876 Wait a second--- So the figure who did that to Casca wasn't actually Griffith himself but instead some other entity taking hold of his now transformed body?
That eclipse scene with the Behelit roaring and the dimension unfolding is so damn visceral, surreal, and insanity inducingly scary. Berserk went from Game of Thrones to Lovecraft/Dark Souls in one scene.
I was honestly thinking that the final season of game of thrones would be like the eclipse, but I was very wrong on that, but honestly would have chosen a berserk kind of ending than the one we got.
@John Smith I predict Femto will play the Godhand the way he plays everyone else. I have a theory based on something Slan says at the eclipse that would seem to imply a way for Griffith to gain even more power than he was initially supposed to receive, and also explains why he let Guts and Casca escape. When Slan sees Guts killing Apostles she says that the more the sacrifice struggles and fights against their fate, the more they become precious bread to feed the life of the new Godhand. Makes me think maybe Griffith knew Guts and Casca wouldnt give up and they would struggle and keep surviving the way they always had which in turn would by Slans words make them more valuable to Griffiths power.
It's kinda terrifying to think that Guts touching Griffith was the final straw for him. It's like that one last bit of control was taken from him, even though Guts is just worried about him. The idea that Guts was above him was what broke Griffith.
license_to_meme same here. I knew that berserk had a violent ending but I legit did not see that coming. If you read the manga you would know about Griffith before the eclipse even happened but I WATCHED THE ANIME LIKE A FOOL AND I CANNOT UNSEE WHAT I HAVE SEEN
@@itsred5253 Berserk is my favorite story of all time. But I really wish they didn't show Griffith as Femto in the Black Swordsman arc. The impact would have been a lot more viscous. Although it does have a unique effect on the story. You get to watch the Golden Age arc unfold and try to look for the hints and signs of what's to come.
Not gonna lie but I felt really bad for Griffith during this scene especially during the dream sequence considering how broken he is after that year of being brutally tortured just makes this sad
Yknow, the way Casca acts and sounds in Griffith’s dream kind of embodies the problem with how he views people as a whole. Like they lose their agency if they support him, which dwindles his respect. He doesn’t know what true actual love is, only worship. I think that’s why Guts mentally broke him when he left. He felt an ounce of sincere love and had it taken away before he could come to understand it.
When you overhear your parents saying that they won't take you to Disney land, you steal the car to try to get there yourself, crash it, and then activate a Behelit to sacrifice your family and friends to become a demon god.
Pretty sure Casca would be devoted enough to live the rest of her live taking care of Griffith, that dream sequence made Griffith realize that all his dreams have gone, the rest is to live up a simple normal life, and he finds sorrow in that.
Sucks they had to tarnish it with a shitty art style and had to go generic with guts working with a bunch of rag tag teenagers. Why dose every 90s anime have to look 3D? I don’t hate on 3d anime cause initial d is the best but why did they think that was the best they could do.
While we may hate Griffith for what he did, I think it’s pretty clear that this proves Griffith is a morally ambiguous character with a lot of dimensions. He’s villain alright, but he’s a complex, layered villain and not a cartoony bad guy. Miura wrote a very, very compelling antagonist in Griffith.
Reminder that it took a year of torture and becoming a disfigured, quadriplegic mute to even consider the sacrifice. Who among us can say we wouldn't do what he did in that situation.
@@Ray_D_Tuttoit's really hard to say since none of us experienced his circumstances, but it's safe to say that any person would do the most fucked up thing if they're driven to that
I've never noticed how huge the faces that appeared are. Just imagine thousands and thousands of them all over the sky, and you're like a speck of dust on them. Terrifying!
Griffith's choice always seemed obvious to me. He had been physically and mentally broken beyond what any normal person would ever experience. His ambition crumbled and he was left to live a life as a vegetable unable to move, speak, reproduce or even feed himself. He'd rather die...but when presented the choice to become a god and have everything he ever desired at the cost of sacrificing everyone i don't think many people would would say no.
“I don’t think many people would say no.” Really? Any decent person would 100% say no and not sacrifice their loved ones to become some kind of demon/god.
@@averyunfunnyhumanbeing1137 Even if I was mentally broken and a vegetable, I would not sacrifice people I love to become a demon god. I find it crazy that I even need to clarify that to you.

Yeah , It's all Guts fault. Guts made Griffith Stick his weiner into the King's daughter. I find it honestly hilarious how in Berserk's world personal accountability seems to be a completely foreign concept, what ever the fuck happens it's always Guts that end up being blamed. bunch of irresponsible wankers...
@OocSNKZ The Eclipse would’ve happened no matter what, that’s kinda the point. Also Griffith is kind of a sociopath and probably would’ve just said what he thought Guts wanted to hear.
It's a snowball effect. If Guts hadn't "betrayed" him, he would have never felt like he needed to see the Princess that night. His ego is so big he can't take any accountability.
*"Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams."* *"I've rested for too long. It's not over yet...not until i reach the end of that cobblestone path."* Whenever things get hard to the point where I'm about to give up, Griffith's lines always get me on my feet again.
Sesshomaru I just noticed the scene with Griffith laughing in the lake mirrors the scene where Joker sees his disfigured face for the first time in The Killing Joke.
I think the godhand is obligated to show Griffith what his life would be like if he refuses the sacrifice. The vision can’t be Griffith’s imagination since he did not know Casca was pregnant.
Nah, it was his imagination, after the torture Griffith wasn't able to do basically anything, I mean, articulations and joints were cutted, also if I remember correctly his face was severely damaged and even his vocal chords couldn't work
It was just a day dream not even the godhand knew she was pregnant..her being pregnant is the biggest turning point u could say could possibly save the world and such
Griffith's dream hits me hard. I deal with depression and I often come to this scene to talk myself into doing things. "What are you doing trembling and afraid?" I interpret that as we are all going to die one day, so we should all follow our dreams no matter what. There is nothing in this life to be afraid of.
@@Blinkengene12 Griffith helped Casca survive a rape by giving her a sword to defend herself, ironic considering the events of the eclipse, afterwirds she joined the Band of the Hawks because she was in love with him. After she fell in love with guts, while Griffith was being tortured for a year, when they rescued him Griffith developed feelings for Casca because he wanted something Guts had.
@@JWeb66 I wouldn't say Griffith developed feelings for Casca. Griffith never viewed Casca as anything other than a soldier who was in love with him. Once he realized Casca didn't admire him like before, he tried to force himself on her.
@@irvinmorales1409 Your right, "feelings" are reserved for actually caring about a person, Griffith saw Casca as an object he could own because Guts had her so desire would be more appropriate.
@@JWeb66 Hence his actions during the Eclipse. It was just to establish dominance over Guts and sadly, Casca was just a means to an end in that horrific situation. Ironically though, that may end up being Femto's downfall.
I remember how I randomly watched this sequence here 1.5 years ago knowing practically nothing about Berserk and was so shuttered as if I got retraumatization of a trauma I cannot even remember. I was not even leaving home for a few days. Especially first two minutes. Then I got really invested and wanted to check what kind of plot can produce such powerful episodes. Finally watched Berserk with friends and, in expectance of mighty psychoanalytical surrealism, we were all quite surprised how boring and long the beginning actually was.) Only after that I figured out that Griffith is considered to be a villain. Maybe because I started from this episode but I still see Berserk not as a story of Guts and aspiring evil in disguise, but as a metaphorical tale about traumas, guilt, atrachment and psychological defenses such as masks, "armors", "swords" - but ultimately about the fragility of a human soul. I have chosen Berserk (narcissistic disorder and means of last line psychological defenses = sacrifice&Femto) as a thesis of my psychoanalytical studies. Will be really happy to explore more this summer. For everybody in this work of art, my huge compassion. But I don't find anybody guilty and still think about Berserk as a set of unique and poweful metaphors about the catastrophe of the soul. For a few days after watching Berserk I had quite a paranoia looking at other people feeling how shallow our perception of ourselves and others usually is. That we have actually zero idea about what happens in the deepest recesses of the mind. That is why Miura was a genius - he could find the symbols to show the deepest layers of emotions of a stripped human soul. My eternal admiration and gratitude for that. Was scary af. Work of a master surgeon. 👍
I really don't understand how anyone can say all Griffith saw in the Band of the Hawk was a means to fulfill his ambitions. Yes, he did say this when his ego was at its highest but his dream with Casca, to me, shows what Griffith truly wanted but was never willing to give up on his goals for. He never told Guts, Casca, Pippin or the others that he loved them. It simply wouldn't do as the leader of their band. But that doesn't mean he felt nothing for them either.
I think anyone thinking Griffith just sucks only needs to look at the scene of him self harming in the river, sleeping with Charlotte after Guts Leaves, and the scene in this video with him looking at life with Casca.
guy literally sent them all straight to hell what are you talking about love. the dream sequence of him and casca was supposed to be depressing like look where he was headed vs where he ended up. it wasnt at all what he wanted
@@User-xw6kd Agreed. Most animes are really cut and dry and over-explain things but Berserk leaves a lot open for interpretation. I saw another comment on here that says this scene is meant to show Griffith's mundane future if he did not choose to use the behelit where he is a cripple and Casca takes care of him as a dutiful wife. All the while she is still in love with Guts (as evidenced by her naming their son after him) and is possibly having an affair with him behind Griffith's back. I actually think I like that interpretation more than my own.
@@AG-vj1ho A dream is more symbolic than that. Coming from Griffith, knowing that their son is called Guts and he's Casca's husband says much about him. And if he didn't love those 2 the sacrifice wouldn't have been effective, and many other things wouldn't have happened. Griffith just chose his dream over them, to show how much he is devoted to it
As someone who has suffered from narcissism (have both been a narcisist, and the victim of a toxic friendship with one) Griffith is one of the best portrayals of the emotions of a narcisist I have seen. You are led to almost believe he does love Guts and Casca until they finally find their own self worth that doesn't involve chasing after his approval, he then becomes emotionally weak, blames others, and convinces himself he has no responsibility for the others choosing to die for him. I hate to admit that I empathise with him
i empathize with him only because of how brutal his year of torture rendering him to barley being able to crawl and not even being able to bend his fingers. he would have suffered for the rest of his miserable existence. and i can garauntee that 99% of people would have taken the offer if they had suffered even a fraction of that year that griffith suffered.
Griffith suffered a lot. And even though he was goated to do what he did, he was still the one who committed those choices and actions out of his own free will
Berserk breakdown: Griffith was laughing like hell in this scene 3:49 because he subconsciously told his arm too hang in there and he thought of two identical behelits
Because he knew about the behelit and the guy who give him from Griffith will command a chosen and Griffith don't want him to save him or he will go in the dangerous way
Not quite. Out of all of the soldiers he had working under him guts was the one to make him forget what he wanted in the first place. If he were to come for him now that would be the 12 drag him into that bed that house that peaceful life. Because at this moment he's scared Too scared to hesitate like he did with his fight. Because the last time he hesitated he was tortured for a year and his best friend had left him. But now he won't allow himself to hesitate
Griffith didn't want Guts to touch him because it activated the eclipse for all the hawks right then and there, and then it altered guts path completely (read the manga)
Wait, what? Didn't Griffith just tought: "if you touch me I will never forgive you" and then all the shit went down?, Or Miura explained the last part on another arc?
what are you talking about , he already traded his cripple body to become femto , dont you remember what the old lady said ? there is no Griffith anymore only femto
@@user-py2gs9oc5u when apostles die, they revert back to the physical state. I know Griffith is on higher level of evil, but I bet that this would apply to him were he to lose to Guts.
There is something about this version the movie one doesnt accomplish. I find this a 1000 times more confusing, disturbing, completely out of place. Its much much better!
B A P T I S M if you appreciate Griffith your borderline psychotic, it’s literally like worshipping the devil except he has blue eyes white hair and goes by the name Femto
I thought Griffith was afraid he’d have to sacrifice Guts. That’s what I thought when he said “we’ll never be” then I thought he’d say ‘together’… idk tho
The original line was "I'll never be able to forgive you again." but it was changed to be more ambiguous. Somebody wrote an interesting analysis of Griffith and what he meant in that moment. I have pasted it below if you're interested in reading. Wall of text incoming Griffith cared about Guts but not in a romantic way. In the beginning, he clearly recognized Guts' strength and skill and valued him as a soldier. But Guts was different on a personal level too. He didn't immediately admire Griffith the same way the others seemed to, he just sort of did what he was told. It almost seems like Griffith needed to work harder to earn Guts' trust and respect, and in the process they started to become more friend than comrade (even if Griffith didn't acknowledge this at the time). As time went on, he considered Guts irreplaceable to the point where he was willing to risk his own life to keep Guts alive (evidence during the Zodd encounter). Toward the end of their time together, he trusted Guts more than anyone else. Guts was the only one he could have asked to assassinate Julius and be kept in the loop during his feigned death and assassination of the queen of Midland. When Guts left, Griffith was furious for a number of reasons. For so many years, his soldiers had practically worshiped the ground he walked on. He had even gained favor with the king. Everything was going exactly how he planned it to and all of his life's work was paying off. Then Guts -- his most trusted and valuable asset -- decides to leave him. At this point, Griffith had become somewhat arrogant. His speech to Charlotte about how he can't consider his underlings equals or friends, was more hot air than he realized. He believed what he was saying because of how far he had been lifted up by his own success, but he didn't realize how valuable someone like Guts really was. As far as Griffith was concerned, Guts' life belonged to him. He considered himself more important than Guts, on a higher level. Griffith was willing to take his life from him instead of allowing him to leave, simply to prove the point that you absolutely will not get away with defying him. Then Guts beats him in a duel and embarrasses him in front of his own men. The great Griffith, who could achieve anything he wanted, couldn't keep his own man under his control. Griffith's pride was shattered and he quickly became depressed. Griffith didn't fully understand it himself, but he had just lost not only his best soldier, but also the only person he had formed a bond of friendship with. He slept with Charlotte that night as a means of reclaiming that power that he felt he had just lost. He thought of losing Guts the entire time they had sex not because he wanted to have sex with Guts, but because he simply couldn't let go of the fact that he had actually been beaten by someone "lesser" than him. But that was the biggest mistake Griffith ever made. If he was thinking clearly, he never would have tried to take Charlotte that way. He knew he wanted to marry Charlotte and he knew the right way to make it happen. But with his ego all but completely destroyed, he came to her out of desperation. He needed to feel on top again, and taking the virginity of a princess who idolized him seemed like the only way to do that at the time. When he was surrounded outside of the castle, he reached for his sword to defend himself, and realized that he had left in such a hurry that he even forgot to bring that. The great Griffith had slipped very far from his former self. Later during the year he spent being tortured, he resented Guts. He blamed Guts for what happened. After all, it was his fault right? Griffith was so upset that Guts left that it ripped him apart and ruined his life and everything he had worked for. In his fit of emotion, he had actually forgotten to pursue his own dream. And as a result, he lost everything. Then Guts shows up and rescues him. And what's the first thing Griffith does when seeing him? He grabs at Guts' throat and tries to choke him, but he doesn't have the physical strength to do it. Now, he has not only been belittled and destroyed by this man, but he's going to be rescued too? Has Griffith really become some damsel in distress, completely unable of defending himself? Does he really need to be rescued by a subordinate? Even worse yet, a subordinate that abandoned him? It became more unbearable after Wyald was killed though. Being exposed to what was left of his band as a naked, broken, hollow shell of his former self had reduced him to little more than nothing. As Casca changed his bandages, he tried to force himself on her so that he could feel strong again. It was a pride thing. He didn't love Casca, he had never looked at her as anything more than a loyal subordinate. But she clearly loved him and he wanted something to go his way again. He quite literally throws himself at her, trying to get back at least something that he had lost. And then she rejects him and pushes him away. His visions of his life with Casca taking care of him are not some idealized fantasy of what he wishes he could have with her. It's a vision of what his life would be like going forward. A vegetable, unable to feed himself. Being taken care of like some weak child. Griffith can't live that life. Griffith was destined for so much more than that. He was on his way to the top and everything was going great. Then it all came crashing down because of Guts. He reached his breaking point when he overheard Guts and Casca talking. He realized that the two of them had become closer. Guts was going to leave again and he wanted to take Casca with him. Had he even lost Casca to Guts? How much can Guts take from him before there's nothing left to take? It gets worse though. Casca tells Guts she won't leave because she has to take care of Griffith. He can't lead anyone anymore. He'll never achieve his dreams. And now the only reason why Guts wasn't taking his last loyal woman was because she pitied him. He couldn't handle this. He took the carriage and attempted to kill himself. But he couldn't even do that on his own, which lead to his fit of laughter. He had become so pathetic now, incapable of even taking his own life. What a joke. Then it happened. Guts rushed to his side to rescue him once again. And that was the absolute last straw. He couldn't bear the thought of Guts rescuing him again. He couldn't be pitied by him and he couldn't let Guts stand tall above him. He was supposed to be better than Guts. He was supposed to be lord of his own kingdom and Guts one of his loyal followers. But it had become abundantly clear that that wasn't happening and Griffith blamed Guts for all of it. The line "never again with you" seems to be translated a bit awkwardly. But essentially what he's saying is "I can't be rescued by you again, pitied by you, belittled by you. I can't have anything to do with you, ever again. Stay away!" and that was his breaking point. Taking all of this into account, it should be clear why Griffith singled out Guts and Casca during the Eclipse. He wanted to show them who was boss. He was establishing his dominance once again after truly rising to a higher level. He took Casca not because he wanted her, but because he needed Guts to feel torment the way he had felt this past year. It was time to make Guts suffer, and Casca was nothing more than a means to this end. There are even more layers to Griffith's actions than this wall of text can explain. He's one of the most deep and well thought out characters in all of fiction, as far as I'm concerned. It can be easy to assume that Griffith's feelings for Guts are romantic due to the way some of this plays out, but that's not the case. What it ultimately boils down to is that Griffith had been living a life where he was getting everything he wanted. And just like a child, he lashed out when something was taken away from him. his own actions unraveled everything else in his life and even still, he didn't take responsibility for it.
What I find most insulting is not Griffith seeing himself as a cripple or Baby Guts possibly being a product of Wife Casca's still romantic feelings towards another man. It's the fact that, in this mundane but peaceful happy future that Griffith dreams of, Pippin's the DOG! Yes, he's got that DAWG in him but still..!

I want to make things clear, this comment isn't to bash the anime. The voice acting and music is still 10/10 perfect. BUT, I really want to praise the manga. The scene of Griffith dreaming and waking up to his arm broken is one of the most profound depressing scene I've ever felt towards the main Villain of Berserk. It's basically the dead end of this man's life, and he chose hell to the world over acceptance.
I think Griffith before accepting and after are two different people. The latter a hollow puppet that looks like the former. When Griffith accepts the deal i believe his soul dies and the Demon Femto is his corpse
That dream...with casca...will be the only thing I find redeemable about him. Everything else. no..he had everything plan, until he messed up. And with a little push and temptation form those..screw it..im calling them demons. He choose what he wanted, he could of said no. However, that does not matter....
I don't think that's true. The Godhand basically introduced themselves to Griffith during the Eclipse and laid everything out for him for the first time. He had no idea he would be presented an ultimatum anything like that outside of a battlefield.
@@gyr0zeppeliii507great perspective most likely so seeing that he would have to have given up his dream and Guts would be out there in search for his dream or maybe even found it. That must have been what broke him which is why Griffith manically started laughing like the Joker; seeing others being superior than him was his worst nightmare especially for that person to have been Guts, especially after Guts left him now twice and Griffith blaming him for everything that went wrong with him, that’s why Griffith went overboard after everything Guts did to him he then comes to his rescue of all people he had to be the one that went for his aid and being completely superior to Griffith in every possible way as duelist, as a person, and a man whom achieved his dream something he would of given up the Behelit was his only way out of he didn’t move his Pride aside(I don’t believe Griffiths fall was Guts in fact it was himself that caused his downfall, again I don’t agree with Griffith he’s a weak femboy not a man) but in no way was this still justified for the horrors the Band of the Hawk, Guts, and Casca went through, such a Masterpiece Berserk is what a story, RIP Miura you’re forever missed.
The gold age arc version made him look like he just finally broke down which was sad to watch. This version isn't bad and I do like the original versions in animation.
People hate griffith, me too but i say he did the most obvious thing, imagine being unable to eat, walk, talk, living like a vegetable, it’s horrible, he found a way out of his suffer, and taked and sacrificied his friends, in my opinion any people don’t would say no
Literally all Griffith had to do was not overreact to Guts being better than him at swordplay and leaving the Band of the Hawks. His complete inability to accept responsibility for killing his own dream, and his selfishness, is what makes him such a despicable villain.
The funny thing about that to me was how Griffith even thought for a second that he could beat Guts in a duel to make him stay. In every battle the band of hawk had Guts was always given the most difficult of tasks allowing him to grow so much stronger than when Guts and Griffith first dueled. When Guts broke through Griffith sword with ease I wasn’t even shocked, but to see Griffiths face like that made me laugh out loud. That just goes to show how arrogant he is.

Can someone answer me on this When Griffith had that dream about caska being his wife (while he so called recovered) and guts was his son and pippin was a dog? I never truly understood that (Btw in the manga they showed it)
@John Smith and why would you think griffith will help casca recover or he will ever be defeated , its not like every modern anime ever when the good defeats the evil its berserk we are talking about here , besides he traded his our flesh and blood to become femto there is no turning back to old griffith infact even old griffith didn't really care about his crew until guts arrive and was the only exception
My interpretation of this scene is that Griffith's subconscious is coming to accept that a peaceful life would have been his fate if his ambition hadn't been so gregarious. His love for guts was that of a father who loves his son and everyone else was merely a pet. A means to an end. This is a humbled Griffith who is coming to terms that his dream is dead and is seeking a new one but it is flawed as it's "a peaceful one" that he could have had but, chose to ignore.
Nah. It'll be a lot worse than this. People need to read Revelation. There's still hope through the Son of God, but people want nothing to do with Christ... ...so... ...this real world will have somebody whose way more powerful than all the God Hand combined coming for them really soon. And it's going to be a freak'n tragedy. Adolff, Nimrod, Alexander, Genghis, Julius, Napoleon--no mortal human will hold a tiny candle to him. Smh.
When I see this scene of the Berserk series, I can't help but think that it tells of what Griffith would have wanted if he was just a simple man. He would want to marry and be with Caska since he's really in love with her, or so I believe, and start a family her and her son with guts that was also in the scene verbally, since guts left the band of hawks while Caska chose to stay and never came back. The rest of the band of hawks went on to have great lives and fulfill their dreams and the eclipse never would have happened. Everything would have been fine and peaceful
Stocking Anarchy I read this from another comment, that the meaning behind the dream was the humiliation of Casca deciding to stay with him out of pity even though she loves Guts. It shows this in the scene how even though they're a couple, the son is named after Guts.

The Egg of the King appearing from the spoon is meant to represent how it’s the only way out for him, and escape from the mundane.
damn you right
i wouldn’t want to be liek taht too
Pretty good interpretation!

Dark Souls was inspired by Berserk so
@John Smith I predict Femto will play the Godhand the way he plays everyone else.

Finally watched Berserk with friends and, in expectance of mighty psychoanalytical surrealism, we were all quite surprised how boring and long the beginning actually was.)
Only after that I figured out that Griffith is considered to be a villain.

It's all quite ambiguous. It can be interpreted in multiple ways which is what makes Berserk so damn epic, compelling & emotional.

The original line was "I'll never be able to forgive you again." but it was changed to be more ambiguous.
Somebody wrote an interesting analysis of Griffith and what he meant in that moment. I have pasted it below if you're interested in reading.
Wall of text incoming
Griffith cared about Guts but not in a romantic way.
@@sagovana nice analysis, wow
The bloopers of this scene are hilarious
Ash Ketchum as kid Griffith had me weak lol
Huh?
@redloiyu654jay He would never do that. You're just making that up.
This moment , this scene , can change your views towards Anime(s) as well as change you along the way and how you perceive this world................... A man-made script bringing the Hell of the CREATOR in an Anime ( image form ) !!!
-
Only a true admirer will know this isn't normal ......Japanese writers are truly out of this world. No normal human can ever produce something like this .......ever !!!
I agreed, japanese people can created a lots of masterpieces.
So Japanese people aren’t normal people eh?
Dear God
Na berserk is an exception
I wouldn't generalize it on Japanese people as a whole, but just Miura.
Very few Japanese writers can compare to him, same way very few Western writers can compare to him.
This is so obvious and I have no idea how majority of people dont understand this
All that remains is his memories and mind, yet his soul is forever changed
If only Guts touched him, why the whole band of the hawk got murdered?
El Cuentista Joseán
Touching Griffith would remind him that Guts is a friend rather than a tool for his desire
Embodiment of Imperfection touching griffith??
The god hand required a sacrifice for griffiths ascension
They were all in the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately. Everyone got sucked into the astral world with the exception of Rickert.
Young Griffith wanted to be a Pokemon trainer when he grows up
How it's Made: Demon Gods.
The dream is not redeemable, that dream was meant to be a nightmare for Griffith, it was something he didn’t want
One little push: One year long torture. I see
The gold age arc version made him look like he just finally broke down which was sad to watch. This version isn't bad and I do like the original versions in animation.
Maaaaan murasawa really push his self to make this score really good
This is like Zamasu taking control of his Universe. You know multiple faces of him
Despite what Griffith has done he is a intresting character.
People hate griffith, me too but i say he did the most obvious thing, imagine being unable to eat, walk, talk, living like a vegetable, it’s horrible, he found a way out of his suffer, and taked and sacrificied his friends, in my opinion any people don’t would say no
He could have just ended his self like he was going too. Not sure if I would sacrifice my friends for it.
pure boi :(
I was never the same after watching this...
I still have ptsd from these episodes
Literally all Griffith had to do was not overreact to Guts being better than him at swordplay and leaving the Band of the Hawks. His complete inability to accept responsibility for killing his own dream, and his selfishness, is what makes him such a despicable villain.
His dream îs his drug, and I know very well how impossible st times îs to get rid of it, especially when more tragedies occurs
@@dave.j2896 it's like when the boss have one competent employee that does all the work and when the employee decides to choose a different path the company crumbles.
What is interesting is that Griffith knew something bad was going to happen and didn't want them to touch him because nothing good will come from it.
You think if they all stayed away nobody would have been killed or marked?
I think he didn’t want guts to touch him because he hated guts, while he still had a deep love for guts he still viewed him as the man who stole his dream and took everything away from him
Something fell in my house as the eclipse started on the clip. Scary xD

Can someone answer me on this
When Griffith had that dream about caska being his wife (while he so called recovered) and guts was his son and pippin was a dog? I never truly understood that
(Btw in the manga they showed it)
@John Smith But his face was normal.
@@xgetxsickx beautiful description
@@xgetxsickx Thank you!!!!! I keep rereading that part and what you said it described it perfectly!
Damn rip Kentaro Miura
Im very glas i was able to read the whole golden age arc without any spoilers.
I couldnt put it down.
The end of all times will be like this.
Stocking Anarchy i dont think griffith ever loved anyone
Stocking Anarchy I read this from another comment, that the meaning behind the dream was the humiliation of Casca deciding to stay with him out of pity even though she loves Guts. It shows this in the scene how even though they're a couple, the son is named after Guts.
This scene encapsulates the curse of ambition.
