Thanks Henry for keeping the move simple and quick. This is exactly what I'm looking for. The application of bjj in mma. Great, minimize the damage from the punches. Please do more, related to mma videos.
Great explanation. Knowing why each component is done makes it easier to understand and remember. Thanks.
Good stuff! I needed this refresher for my purple belt stripe test this weekend. I am glad I found it.
Great details thanks for sharing Henry!!!!!
Sick with it Hen A! Always a boss you are!!!
awesome techniques. super simple. thx
Interesting way to defend punches from the mount. Different than the way Gracie Brothers show. So many questions to ask.
So good
Thank you for this
Great UPA sweep details.
what about if he keeps both arms far forward and just does short elbows?
good stuff - gotta do pressure testing of the techniques with live punches otherwise its a false sense of security
Thanks for showing us a technique! I have a question though... In that position you said you wanna keep your elbows down so you don't allow him to get his knees all the way up to your armpits, then it's almost impossible to escape, but once he tries to punch you with one of his free hands, and you have to block that punch with your hand which means you remove your elbow from the ground, can't he just slide the knee all the way up to your armpit and get a dominant mount? Again, I appreciate your effort to teach us something!
The bridge is key to keep his hands above your head otherwise his base won't be good
+Mau Vau :
Because you have lifted your hips and he is off balance and has to hook his legs to keep the mount, he has to decide to either keep the mount ( and his feet hooked in) or loosen his "hooks" and try to move up and risk having the mount reverse since he no longer has any control of the mount.
In self defence you're not fighting a grappler, they won't know the significance of high knees
p
scarred10, don't underestimate your opponent, assume he knows more than you do.
this is really good personally better than the gracies they take too long
what u mean gracies take to long
great stuff Professor Akins. I just have one question with regards to when we extend our arm as bottom person at 5:02. Is there an issue with getting armbarred or at least having our arm isolated by the top person sliding their knee up behind your left shoulder?
That is certainly a possibility, and I might have seen that set up before in an MMA fight. Mount escapes don't come for free and you will have to take risks to break free.
Yeah Vitor...

The biggest problem with this approach that you are opening both your armpits. Upa works, but both armpits exposed is a problem. Big no no in my opinion. With one hand on the mat, or even the the bicep you're pushing against he can slide himself into high mount. Out of the frying pan, but into the fire.
I guess Weidman didn't see this in time. That was one of the worst beatings I've ever seen someone get from the mount without a stoppage.
He's right I can c that.
