I watched this for my Chicanx studies course. It really brought all my reading together. What a great group of actors to have had to go through all that fear-mongering. Thank you for posting this!
Thanks Pizza Flix for the Excellent movie, I find it so sad that this actually happened, and that people were treated like this. Terrible just terrible
Alverthorpe labor rights and class struggle is essential to Chicano history Lucy Parsons, Flores Magon all organizers because the class struggle is organized by the working class Chicanos
A lesson for the feminists here. Since when has the unrelenting dumbing down of man's worth, been able to forge equality between male and female? What happened here is an illustration of God creating man and woman to support one another equally, with the natural strengths and wisdom that He gives to us. Wonderful and thankyou so much for posting this for us.x
This film is a reminder of how big business and government oppress humanity for their own gains and promote race and sex discrimination. Lets not forget the lesson this film has shown us! Gracias a todos los actores por un buen trabajo. Walt in Miami
@@billwilliamson9842 Victim card? Humans are basic, simple. We go to school and a group of people decide what to teach children. In this country Anglo history is taught. My family was one of the families that founded Santa Fe in the 1600s. BEFORE THE U.S. EXISTED. Nothing is taught about Mexican history in the Southwest, which WAS MEXICO. Our contributions are not taught. Your dumb ass is saying this is a coincidence? Native American history and culture not taught. Coincidence right? Acted and produced with feeling and sincerity. I hope more stories of union struggle are portrayed the dreadful press unions got in the UK in the 1970s has still not been overcome.
A bit slow but worth the watch. Based on real events, what makes it stand out is the harsh lesson that the wives of the striking miners were as much oppressed by their husbands as the men were oppressed by the mine managers. And yet, it was the wives who continued the battle after their husbands were banned from the picket line - and they won.
In 2019, unions are almost dead. In another 10 yrs, they'll all be gone. You can't keep demanding raises while it costs over $50,000 to buy a pickup truck. What will that truck cost with raises in another 10 yrs? $90k? This is all going to come to a huge fall within a few years. The economy is headed for a huge depression again. Who can afford to buy a new vehicle? Whether it be a zinc mind, motor company or manufacturing, unions are going to die off because the average working man and woman just can't pay $50k for a pickup truck. That's absurd.
@@George-gk5bu Nor does he understand the importance of unions, unions aren't just about demanding fairer wages, although that's important, but also about demanding better working conditions, and ensuring that the rights of workers in general aren't trampled on, in the pursuit of company profits. This is simply an idealized version of actual events. Since it's being told from the viewpoint of the striking miners, why wouldn't it be? That's the basic formula of most Hollywood pictures. The truth, however, is rarely so black and white. As for the actual importance of the strike itself... It was one small story, in the long history of the American Labor Movement. Were communists involved in the making of this film? Absolutely! One of the more famous was Will Geer, who played the Sheriff, and was a long time member of the communist party. Strangely, though, I never heard of Geer donating his salaries to the masses, or working for scale in solidarity with the international worker. The problem for most American communists, no matter their backgrounds, and despite the capitalist system they claim to hate, is that they simply Live TOO Well! It's a paradox they've never been able to overcome, and the main reason communism has failed to make much progress in The United States. That's why the bulk of the American Communist Party is made up of aging rabble rousers, and dumb college students. Only during The Great Depression did they make any headway with common citizens, and only then because of the desperate times. As soon as the economy picked up, communism became irrelevant again-- And has basically remained that way ever since.
William Anthony yea concessions the working class gets in us suppresses the revolt but it’s always these party based communists that end up getting caught up in themselves the directly democratic sides was actually able to make gains and the extensive growth and impact the IWW had the problem is that these party communists only want power never the liberation of the working class
You describe that commie Will Geer in a light that so perfectly captures his greed and ambition to rule the world...So grateful that he was kept out of Hollywood for so long and so sad that he was able to work on the TV series "the Waltons" which in itself glorified the communist philosophy of sharing with your neighbors and joining with them to resist oppresion by the wealthy corporate overlords.
The best movie I watched till date... Better than all science fiction, romance, action, fantasy, history or adventure.... I have loved it....

So much we Chicanos don't know about our history. This is not by chance, this is by design.
no its by pure laziness, stop tryin to play the victim card. smh

This is much too depressing for me.
Anyone suffering 'prejudice' is free to leave.
If that's what you do every time you have a problem then you must be a nomad.
Great movie. I guess Juan Chacón & Rosaura Revueltas didn't get first listing in the credits because of the inequality that the movie was about.
I'm not sure what you're talking about, they got first listing in the opening credits.

The crappy intro music and basically the whole rotten score took away from the important lessons from this worthwhile film.
