Why ping the hostname to get the IP? Just SSH into hostname.
I used this tutorial before and it worked, I had to reset the device because I was using more than 2 TB for storage. When I reinstalled Casa OS and attempted to install Plex, I got this error:

Instead of a raspberry pi, if you have an old laptop with a broken display or keyboard, use that. Or buy one of those used thin clients
Sure old laptop is great to have.
it's also worth noting that an old laptop consumes much more power than the RPI, which is not a negligible factor for a server that runs 24/7.

My old laptop is better than rpi5, more connectivity and performance with x86 type architecture which has more software support.
Let's not forget the battery. Also two months down the line, rpi 5 will be out of stock and scalped for 2x the price.

RPI 5 is a great device. It handles the Server load without any issues. Mind you that, it can only deliver peak performance with official power supply. and Offcourse OLD Laptop is much faster.
Does your laptop fit into your pocket?
Try putting a laptop on a dc motor on sticking it to the wall for an IoT device.
