    Dude people making negative comments can kick rocks! I’m a fairly new viewer and your videos are awesome and extremely educational. In fact you helped me make my decision in buying the 2018 road king special! Thanks dude keep the videos coming!

    I traded a 2012 103 road king with cams, exhaust, tuner and intake for a wicked red road glide. The stock 107 was disappointing to me. I know it was stock but I expected more. Then they come out with the 114's this year! Traded back for a 2019 road king special 114 and I love it. I just prefer a road king anyway. I can feel more power on the 114. Much better.

      You can buy a Challenger RT for that price! HD should really look at their dwindling market and address pricing. Millennials will NEVER spend that much on a scooter....

      Gordy Hattrick I agree that they should drop their prices however...A. Their main target audience are not millenials and B. They sure as hell don't make scooters.

    Hi Matt. I have been riding for about 40 years now. I have never had a bagger or a windshield. I have been looking at a Street Glide and a Road Glide, both very comparable and with my own personal lack of experiences on the glides I found this video very informative and helpful. Thank you for that. I must say it is a cool job you have! Cheers from Canada!

    Love the extended bags and the murdered out look on the 2018. The “non special” bags are short showing the attachment bolts. Paint is sublime. I’ll be installing a Denali 120 decibel horn. Would love to see a 16” 200 tire on the rear.

    Had a 2017 Ultra Classic and wasn't even thinking of trading till I walked in the dealership and saw this bike. This color hit me more than anything I've seen in a long time. I had to have it so I traded my Ultra in on it in May. Lol Never rode on a Road Glide before but I love the way this fairing handles, plus the look is badass.

    I wanted one back in 2015 my local dealer advertised 100% book on trade in then wanted to low ball the number by $2000 and so I just bought better shocks, apes and a fairing. It is nice to see the improvements year after year just wish the price and cost of trading in was a friendly environment too.

    Notification squad here. Making motorcycles great again, society needs to men up a little bit, screw the prius lol you still get terrible millage and zero fun whats the point. Love seeing you try new stuff on the editing and format of the videos, congratulations brother. I just sold my HD and bought a small and light dual purpose, definitely super practical, nice fuel economy , goes anywhere but oh boy, I do miss the rumble and speeding off of the lights lol - thats as much fun as you can get without getting a ticket and harleys are made for that-

    Nice video, you touch on a lot of topics about the bike including seat comfort. I found that after an hour on my ’17 Road Glide Ultra I was so uncomfortable I had to get off and walk around a bit. I cannot express to the agony suffered on the ride from Ohio to Sturgis and back last summer. The seat is scooped out so it places the rider lower to accommodate a shorter rider. While that is commendable it is a crushing experience for me. The seat also places the rider 1.5” to 2” further forward again designed to accommodate a shorter rider. At less than 5’11” and 240 lbs I am not a big guy. After paying $30k for my Road Glide Ultra I am disappointed at having to pay another $350 for a Tall Boy Seat to correct the bad decision HD made with saddle. Visualize the Pointy Haired Marketing Director overriding Dilbert the Seat Designer on this one. I hope the Pointy Haired Marketing Director sees this so he’ll know why I invoiced him for the cost of my replacement saddle!

    • @MrDoyle07
      @MrDoyle07 9 месяцев назад

      The saddle they provide with these bikes should be able to be tailored for the height of the rider out the door and not represent a price increase for the rider. That is something that has always bothered me. Dealers should be able to fit the out the door saddle to the rider.

  • @burnsjames08
    @burnsjames08 6 лет назад

    Pretty accurate with the height comment. I'm 5'6" with at 2017 Road Glide Special and I'm barely flat footed. Love my bike though, wouldn't trade it for the world.

  • @rickharris323

    Nice review Matt! I just picked up a 2018 CVO Street Glide and am concerned that I'll need to upgrade the rear shocks to taller units for 2-up riding in the Spring. What kind of rear shocks did you install on your SGS? Other question ... I love the sound of the bike in your videos ... very minimal wind noise but really capturing the rumble of the bike. Are you just throwing the recorder in your pocket during rides, but recording your voice with an external mic inside your helmet that is connected to your helmet cam?

    I suspect for MY2019 we will see the 114 coming to the Tourings, given the hit they took on 2017 overall sales and the resulting need to repair that. Plus, it’s what we, the consumers would like to see happening 😃

    It’s interesting to me how you have the lane splitting thing out there. When we do that here (it’s illegal in Michigan) it is necessitated in traffic jams because our engines are air cooled but, people in boxes get really twisted over it, they pull over and block us, they cuss us, they have even run us off the road. It always strikes me funny to see you all doing this and no one in cars ever gives you the bizzniss over it.

    Can anyone explain why Harley Davidson still uses the CHAIN PRIMARY. The chain primary accounts for noise in shifting and unnecessary maintenance of the chain and other things. The Milwaukee Eight is a new engine from the ground up except for the left engine side . Gear drive is the standard for just about everyone including Indian, Honda, Yamaha, and the no more Victory line of motorcycles.

  • @thehexter1

    Excellent point of the pros & cons. Most dealers would just say how great each bike is and not go into rider size, style & preferences. As you know, every rider is different as are their needs. I ride the '17 Ultra Limited because of long distance riding with my GF. She needs the storage and the security she feels on that particular bike. My other bike is an ADV bike for more of my solo rides and some off-road. Up here in NorCal there are lots of mountain roads both paved and hardpan that are enjoyable. Thanks for the great videos you put out with no yelling, screaming, swearing and "dude" all the time. :-)

    Another great video, Matt. Always look forward to your videos. I've never said anything negative before, but I was looking forward to "the ride", and I found the spec window distracting, and it seemed like you were repeating yourself from what you said before the ride...sorry....just thought I'd mention it... But, thank you for your informative and enjoyable videos...I have a 2017 Road Glide Special, so I was very interested in this video.

    Great review. Can never make up my mind between the Street and Road Glide. Like the idea of the Street Glide keeping more of the cold wind off my hands because I have problems wearing gloves. Also I hear it's hard to read the info screen on the Road Glide sometimes depending the angle of the sun.
    One thing I'm sure of, damn good idea to take the test ride on those mountain roads. I'll never get tired of that view!

    Hi matt, another great review. I do notice though, just looking at your video, that the brakes are different (at least the front is, you cant see the rear) in that the special has a floating disc, where the normal has a solid. I notice that harley is changing these around alot (the sport glide for instance, despite the 'sport' title has a solid front disc). I wish harley would stick to floating. My fatbot S has floating front And rear.

    Hey Matt, Enjoy your videos. I just traded my 16 Road Glide in for an 18 Road Glide M8. Love the bike, suspension and power are major improvements, but I noticed an oil leak coming from the air intake after longer trips. I just finished a 1100 mile trip down the coast and oil leak is to the point of being a safety hazard as far as spewing onto pipes, side bag and rear wheel. I checked oil level and it was low a quart. I have brought the bike to my dealer for the 1K mile service and they are trying to pass this blow by as normal and said they would check it out but may not be able to do anything. I have heard other riders having this same problem. Have you've seen this issue with any of your customers, and what is your dealership telling them? I have other friends with M8's that don't have this problem at all. I hope Harley addresses this issue with the new bikes...Please give me some advice on this problem...Thanks Tom

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 лет назад

      Is the oil coming out of your intake? Did you change your air filter or is it stock?

    • @tjwa103
      @tjwa103 6 лет назад

      Because the bike is brand new and I needed the 1K service I did not bother taking the air filter off I figured I would just bring it to the dealer. It is the stock air filter. The service manager mentioned there are some filters under the rocker box covers they may be clogged or something. Thanks for getting back to me so soon.

    Thanks for another great video, Matt! Your assessment of the short travel suspension is spot on. IMO a touring bike should have at least 4" travel to be comfortable on long jaunts. I don't remember hearing anything in your videos about you changing the shocks on your SGS. What shocks did you end up with? I love my RGS; it looks bad ass and that baby "sits down" at 90 and wants to be flogged!!!

    Motorcycle.com's review claimed the Street Glide's single DayMaker headlamp was significantly brighter than the Road Glide's dual LED reflector lamps.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 лет назад

      The stock headlamp isn’t even a day maker. The daymaker refers to HD’s LED line. It’s a dual halogen headlamp stock. Now the single Daymarker headlamp out of the P&A book is brighter than the stock Roadglide reflector headlamp. It’s more of a concentrated beam though. The Roadglide headlamp gives off more of a dispersed fog lamp illumination

    Hi Matt. A question occurred to me when you said you sell vivid black 4 to 1 over other colors. Do you think it is because people want black, or do you think they choose it because it is the least expensive option and they are settling for that when they would really like something else? I just wonder if they ever talk about that, either before or after purchase, and if they ever express regret for not springing for the more expensive color options.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 лет назад +1

      Yes, we talk extensively about price and the decision on colors. Most people just prefer black. When your spending this much money most people will pay a little more to get the color they want. Personally I prefer something other than black. Black is boring to me. HD comes out with so many amazing colors.

    Do you notice any major differences in ride comfort between the Road Glide and Street Glide because of how the fairings are attached?

    I ride an older Street Glide and love it. But a Road Glide will be my next bike! There just isn't quite as many of them on the road?

      True. The road Glide is awesome. It’s a close second to the Streetglide for me. Just my personal preference though.

      I like them both a lot the 2 best bikes Harley make in my opinion!
      I like the riding position a little better on the Road Glide. Ride comfort I really cant tell a difference? I agree with you when it comes to looks the bat wing is much better looking!

    When it comes to touring I think I would rather have the 2018 Goldwing. You just get a whole lot more for your $$$. Not kicking HD cause I own one. Love my softails. Good vid Matt as always man, keep up the good work bro.

      I looked at the Gold Wing too. Lots of stuff, very little style. The bike needs curb appeal for me. I tour on a 96" Ultra now.

      I am bit cross with honda for 2018 goldwing, they reduced the size of fuel tank and shaped the bags weird. Earlier it was a no nonsense touring beast, now it's just a bit awkward. And with HD providing blacked out I would prefer this. That's just an honest opinion. What do you think?

      Just the CVO. Not the regular Road Glide.

  • @massivekilla121

    With HD making CVO's a 117Ci in 2018 you think 114ci will be the standard for the 2019 FLTRXS's?

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 лет назад

      There is always the possibility. I really don't know. I'm really 50-50 on my best guess.

    I understand you can get the " standard " with ABS and the upgraded stereo. For an extra charge of course. Not to sure about the blacked out treatment, but everyone's taste is not the same. Enjoy your videos, very informative. Thank you for your efforts.

    The prices are out of control! I'm seriously looking at the new 2018 GoldWing, More features better bike and same price. I have been a loyal HD rider since 1994 but I'm loosing faith in the Motor Company. They are loosing the Vision to sell to Rub riders.

    Hey Matt.
    I have a question off the topic of the video.
    I’m trying to decide on a seat for my bike, and am torn between the lucky Dave’s seat or your Corbin. I’m 6’2 with a 2017 Low Rider s, and mid controls.
    I hear the LD pushes you forward a bit and the Corbin drops you back?
    Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  6 лет назад

      They are both good. I don’t have enough seat time on the lucky Dave’s to really comment. The BMC can be customized to push you back more. Mine has a 2 inch set back.

    I absolutely love the look of the 2018 RG Special versus the RG Ultra. For me the Special in Vivid Black but my wife worries about the ride which is huge for her. I plan to add the quick connect tour pack when she rides and maybe have an extra seat to add more comfort for her. Your thoughts? Would really like your thoughts on the different between the Ultra and the Special.
