    Well, I have watch a large amount of Motorcycles reviews. And I do mean many many. But Matt is clearly the best Motorcycles reviewer I have come across. I am in sales myself and he's obviously well trained, learned his lessons well and most of all is applying them well. Great Job Matt. Keep up the very good work!

    Mike and Team, thanks always for your reviews, helped me few years ago with getting my first low rider, and now graduated to a 2016 Road Glide. The 103 is still plenty of power for me and super well cared for! This review of 2017 helped a lot! You all keep taking great care out there! P.S. my 2016 has turn signals on the baggers, so when remove touring, no problem!

    My first Harley was a 2001 RoadGlide. Traded it for a 2015 Ultra Limited. I'm only 5'9" and I'm cramped on the Ultra. I appreciate the heated grips (even in Indio, CA) and extra DayMaker lighting but for me there is much better storage, wind deflection and room on the RoadGlide. The batwing mounted on the forks is too close and awkward how it swings with the handlebars. The ride is more lux and regal with the RoadGlide. It's just my opinion and many will feel the opposite and that's good because Harley makes a model that's perfect for everyone. To each their own.
    Another fantastic review Matt. Thanks again.

    As a guy whose not rode on a two wheeler street bike in over 10 years has me scratching my head as to why I am subscribed to this channel... I guess its Matt Laidlaw's calm assuring voice that has me coming back for more. I would say more but I hate it when I get mocked or hated on over so very little these days. Yes, I'm an old fart.

    I know I'm late to the party on this video but I traded my 2017 Road King in for a 2017 Road Glide Ultra, my second FLTRU, my first was a 2013 model. My wife took a trip with me from Seattle WA to Spokane WA on the Road King and said that I needed to get another Road Glide as she wanted to ride the throne (the passenger couch pillow)!
    I'm actually glad I found this review, I learned a little more about my own bike during this demonstration! I had considered holding out for the 2018 model year but I just loved the Silver and Black two tone and I got a great deal on this bike from my friends over at Northwest Harley-Davidson in Lacey WA (giving them a free plug for WA folks)!
    Over all, it's probably the best motorcycle I've ever owned as far as comfort and handling, all in one bike. It corners amazingly and I'm fine with the 107" motor.
    Thanks for the review, sorry I chimed in so late! Just wanted to thank you for going over the bike so thoroughly! As always, I enjoy your dedication and effort you put into your Vlogs and just know that they are important and valuable to probably everyone that owns a Harley!

      I bought a 2018 Road Glide Ultra. I bought it for touring, as I prefer the look of a street Harley. But comfort is king, so I went with the Road Glide. It is indeed a very comfortable and surprisingly good handling bike. The bike will rocket to and cruise at 90 to 100 effortlessly. Rides like a Cadillac. The one improvement would be to trade the irritating joysticks for smooth buttons (including the cruise control). Good power, but I still wish it had even more. Overall, very happy.

    Thanks Matt. I did a test drive at Harley Davidson Benelux last Sunday. He is exactly the way you describe him. I love this motorcycle! In the Netherlands, this Road Glide Ultra costs 35000 euros. That's very expensive, so unfortunately I'll have to do it with my Electra Glide Standard from 2001

    I bought the 17 RG Ultra and love it, I have 12000 miles so far and no problems. I'm like you though I would like to have the bars a little further forward and I'm six ft. Not so bad that I want to spring a bunch of money to fix but I would love to lean forward sometimes.

    You do a nice job on your reviews. Purchasing a Harley can be quite a confusing task with all the variations in models and within a model as well. Add into that differences between a 2015,16 &17 and it can be downright insane! Anyone looking for clarity should seek your reviews.

    Excellent review, Matt. I was debating between the Ultra and the Road Glide for my new ride and ended up with the Ultra Limited. What did it for me are the heated grips, lower bars and more comfortable ergonomics (for me), and the bat wing with the passing lights. I gave the nod to the Ultra but it was very close and I'm sure I would be just as over the moon with the Glide too. Thanks again for your most expert and excellent review!

    Great review Matt! I myself love the handlebars on this bike I am only 5' 8" and they fit me great. That's the thing about Harleys you always have to make them fit you. I had a 08 Ultra and had to change the bars, shock and, seat just for it to fit me. My present bike is a 13 Road Glide Custom that I changed the bars and seat and it fits me like a glove. My point is it's hard to make them fit everyone. I also wondered why the Ultra Road Glide and the Special Road Glide have different bars? Thanks again and Ride Safe!

    Great review as always. Good tip on the "i" button. Mine's a 17 RGS so really interested on how the Ultra compared (haven't seen one in NZ yet). I've done the stage 1 which I was a bit disappointed in compared to the stage 1 on my previous 15. When you look at the SE brochure and comparison hp/torque for the twin cams before and after vs MW8 before and after it looks like a better bang for buck on the HO twin cams. I definitely noticed the difference after my 15 upgrade, especially at lower revs. Not so much on the MW8. Seems to need a few more revs to make the difference.

    I was just in Laidlaws a couple of days ago. I had the pleasure of speaking with Bob. Very nice man. I've spoken to Bob before on other visits. I have a Goldwing now and was on the fence in 2009 between the Goldwing and the Harley. A different sale manager would've yielded a different outcome. Salesman was great!
    Anyway - I ride with more than a few Harley owners. The one big/huge bitch they have, IS MAINTENANCE COST. A couple have purchased Indians in large part, because of maintenance cost. Darn Harley's have really come out with nice power and dependability. They've always had the look! But when I speak to my buddies about buying one - there's often the mention of cost. Not that the Goldwing is a VW maintenance machine. It's high labor, but rarely needs repairs. I'm still thinking.
    Damn good looking machines! Ever since the 103's, they have plenty of power now too!
    I wonder if they are any cooler at a long stop light on a hot day, LIKE ALL THIS WEEK!!

    A few weeks ago, I went to the local dealer to test ride the RK and the SGS. Afterwards, they asked me to test ride the RGS (even though I said that I wasn't fond of the looks of it) b/c the bike I currently ride has a fixed fairing. My friends have told me that the RG's are very comfortable but they'd never buy one. Well, I came back from the ride and was totally baffled b/c the ride was so nice and I didn't expect to like it that much more than the SGS. The handling was so nimble. If I were to buy a new Harley, I think the RGS or RGU is probably what I would get.

    I appreciate the quality and useful information that you cover in your reviews. I have been on the fence about getting a Harley Davidson again after a bad experience with a used 2007 but I have always loved the Road Glide model line. My biggest gripe is the size of the floor boards and the small rider triangle. I suppose there is a difference seat and floorboards and maybe a longer heel toe shifter to make room for my size 12's. I have a Indian Roadmaster currently and love the bike but engine heat and a few other minor complaints have me looking again at HD. With the new 107, I am thinking it may be the better choice.

    Best reviews going. I have a 15 Limited - agree on the gps being marginal. It will get you there but not without a fair amount of aggravation. And there are no map updates for it, only firmware updates. I'd rather clamp a Garmin to the handlebar. How much stiffer of a ride is it with the low profile RGS tires as opposed to the taller side walls of the touring bikes?

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 лет назад

      hogdriver88 with just changing tires alone and not suspension it won't make a very big difference.

    Matt, great review! I have a 17 RGU and I love it. Had a batwing for 9 years and recently made the switch. Quick question, does Harley have a lot less of theese in inventory? It seems that for every 19 Electra glides I might see one RGU. This is the case, both on the street and at my local HD dealerships

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 лет назад +1

      BigPappaMurf That's just due to demand and customer purchasing patterns. The RGU is less popular at my dealership so I order a lot less of them. I'm guessing that consistent with most dealers.

      @MattLaidlaw  7 лет назад +1

      E. Simons they aren't considered a mini ape hanger. I guess they have a very similar shape. The angle isn't straight up though. There is a pin that keeps the angle static. Some people break the pin and rotate the bars in the raiser though.

    I'd like comments from Matt and any owners regarding passenger wind exposure on the RGU vs. the Limited.

    • @MattLaidlaw
      @MattLaidlaw  7 лет назад

      Wind Deflection is good but this all depends on your height. I prefer to look over the windshield and not through it as well - which is how the stock windshield is for me. I feel that the FLHTK is very comparable to the FLTRU. However I think the FLTRU is better for keeping side wind off you because it does have a wider/bigger molding to it.

    • @davidhunter801
      @davidhunter801 7 лет назад

      Sorry, to be clear - I was asking about wind on the pillion. Wondering if the flow goes around the passenger any differently between the two fairing types. Passenger comfort is a key factor for me deciding between RGU and Ultra Limited.

    That GPS problem is with every type of GPS, I've ever used. I drive for a living and use a GPS everyday. All GPS systems will get confused in certain areas and they haven't been able to fix it. However this is a blessing in disguise because, it's slowing the progress of self-driving cars. I'm sure they'll try to get rid of motorcycles altogether. Once they push self-driving cars on us. Don't doubt me on this. It's coming sooner or later.

    Chevy Volt, Matt?!?!?

      I was wondering if someone would give me crap for that. Yes, I own a chevy volt. So embarrassing. I drive 120 + miles a day. It's a necessary vehicle for me.

      Matt Laidlaw - no crap at all. I knew a bike was your main transport from your videos, and figured you would have a truck or something otherwise. The volt probably gets you HOV access anyway.

      Marty 'Mork' Neilan That's exactly right. I got it for the car pool lane. I'm actually going to buy a new bike soon. I don't have a bike right now.

      That car makes sense when you live in a state where gas cost as much as $4.00 per gallon .

    Although my 1998 Road Glide wasn't originally configured as a "Road Glide Ultra" (wasnt until 2009) the original owner turned my bike turned into one. I personally don't like it with the 60lb added up high weight and only use it for touring purposes in this configuration and remove the King Tour pack afterwards.

    The Rushmore project should have been doing in the late 90s
    Harley is ridiculous for waiting till 2014
    The Goldwing has everything the rushmore project was back like 20 years ago
    I dont know why they wait so long to do smart redesigns
    A rushmore bike is what the metrics did almost 20 years ago

    Those radiators made me look away from purchasing. They look like an aftermarket part. The designers need to be upgraded or Harley Davidson will disappear.

    Why should they redesign for somebody as tall as you? Only those who play for the NBA are that tall. The rest of the world are of normal height 6'2 or lower. You should find a seat or bars for your abnormally tall butt. With that said ,I still like your videos ,so keep making them.

      duane howard I agree with your comment man. I don't expect them to make bikes that fit me. In fact I really hope they don't start making bikes to fit me.

      I have the 2017 SGS ,I wanted the RGS but am 5'8 and found it to be difficult to reach the infotainment system .I do understand where your coming from .I had a 2010 roadking classic ,and notice the street glide was a bit closer to the tank. In my case I've gotten use to it .You being so tall the limited will give you issues . Can't you change the seat to help out?

      Matt Laidlaw Have you ever considered the possibility that women ride and buy motorcycles? They feature prominently in HD advertising.
