- This video follows the southbound ride along the Tullamarine Freeway & CityLink. all the way to the West Gate Freeway and the Melbourne Central Business District!
Melbourne's freeways look so futuristic! I love the colorful decorations found along the way.
Indeed! It's definitely a nod to Melbourne's international reputation for its arts scene. There's also some neat futuristic architecture along the Western Ring Road (which I'll feature in a later video) and the new EastLink toll freeway.
Is it really futuristic? I leave here in Melbourne and find every other freeway outside Melbourne looks way better!
I think he was implying that by Melbourne, he's referring to the entire region, and not just within the city. Compared to US freeways, there is definitely *a lot* of nice artistic features to Melbourne's freeway network. It's awesome stuff!
+FreewayBrent oh ok. Hey Brent have you done a hook turn yet? What'd you think of it??
Interstate
This channel has become my go-to source when I'm tired of the music I already have.
Hey there Johan. Saw your comment a few days ago; have worked three consecutive 15 hour days, due to unusual circumstances within my company (all good, just things I had to help fix), but now that I finally have down time, wanted to respond and say thank you very much! I'm hoping to have another video out in the next 10 days, before I fly out to Australia for more freeway filming! Next video will feature a melodic, pop song.
FreewayBrent Sounds great! I have to ask though, how do you find the time to make these videos, where you just apparently travel the world and film the roads you do so on? Or how do you afford it? What is your secret? I must know!
lol. You're not the first to ask. Without elaborating too much...
1.) I have an employer that truly respects and accommodates my desire to travel on a fairly regular basis. I work my butt off as a project manager, and in return for remaining 100% on-call while I'm away (via both phone and E-Mail), my employer lets me take a yearly 2-3 week vacation, and a couple of 1+ week vacations per year, plus some Friday's/Monday's off when desired. In other words, even when I'm on vacation, I usually still work anywhere from 30 minutes-6 hours a day (but generally just 30 mins to 3 hours a day) to keep projects moving.
2.) Because of my job requirements and my personal life results in me being so mobile, I now rent a furnished commuter room in a house with someone I really trust, on a reasonable day-to-day rate (about 15-20 days per month on average). This saves me *a lot* of money. I analyzed my financial situation and the amount of days I wasn't home, and decided renting an apartment or even a room full-time was a complete waste of money. I don't have kids...just a g/f who lives in Sydney and I get to see once every 2-3 months. Also, when I'm on vacation, I don't spend *any* money on rent, and in return, get to spend it on lodging...or, if my travels take me to places where I have friends in the immediate area, I'll stay with them to save on lodging.
3.) I don't live lavishly (meaning I don't spend lots of money on material items)...most of what I spend my money on is related to good coffee, food, travel and treating out my friends/family on occasion. I do have a 2015 Kia that I'm making payments on, but it's not a higher-end model...it's reliable and gets me around.
Sounds like a complicated deal. I'm currently in the final year of school, and about to turn 18 which means I'll be able to get my driver's license. Once I turn 21 I'll be able to get a license for trucks and get a job driving trucks and trailers, and then who knows? I might start making videos such as yours, Haljackey's, Freewayjim's and all the others myself!
Keep on being an inspiration! :D
Excellent as usual!
Thank you! Be safe on the rest of your trip around the Pacific Northwest and the ride back out east.
'Sit back and enjoy the ride' - that's exactly what happened! Thanx for the upload!
Glad you enjoyed! Just finished uploading my Monash Freeway video from Melbourne, in case you want to take a look. Happy Sunday!
Amazing! I am a Aussie too! I always work via this highway and I subscribed to you too!
Niiiiiiice. I'm actually based out of Los Angeles. I have my West Gate Bridge video up as well if you want to check that out too, as well as some videos from Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland. Cheers mate!
fantastic ride there,well done!!!
Thanks!!
FreewayBrent :)
Beautiful construction elegant style
Nice! Thanks for the tour.
Thanks! I really enjoyed driving all over Melbourne...still have 3 more videos from the city to release in the coming months ahead.
Pretty awesome stuff right there. Totally loved it. For those that may be curious he passes over 'Bolte Bridge'.

Gum trees along a major freeway, how very Australian!
OMG!! I felt one with vehicle.
Fucking cool dude!!.
That's the whole idea...glad I succeeded, for your own viewing pleasure!
If I was in Australia I'd be at the MCG every week watching the AFL action. Nice video Brent!
lol, me too. My girlfriend and I actually had an opportunity to watch the Australian Open, but we ultimately chose to explore as much of the city as we could. Did not get a chance to see the stadium, though.
+FreewayBrent I'm actually a pretty big fan of Aussie Rules Football (I know, weird for a Canadian), I like watching the Essendon and Richmond games on TV.
Trans Canada Phil afl is a dead game
Only bogans watch it
AFL is sure as hell not a dead game. It has been part of our culture for 100 plus years and it is one of the only places that I can see the majority of my family in the one spot. It is one of the most important things in my life and provides me with something to do.
Absolutely loved the ride to Melbourne, and such a great tune along with it.
Thanks! That's the 2nd time I've used a song from this band...first time was during my US 54/US 400 video in Wichita. They have some really catchy music, if you want to check out the rest of their big breakout album.
Have you listened to "Calling Out"? It's also another great song I think will go well with one of your videos.
Ooooh, I like it. Listening to it now. Not sure I can get this song to work in a video though...I guess it's a feel I have for what will and won't work. But, I'm definitely downloading the soundtrack!
Great work and nice ride Brent!
Thanks! Definitely a nice ride...going to be even nicer, as the current widening project will make this as wide as 13 lanes.
Amazing work! :D
Thank you very much!
Great video, Brent!!!
Thank you! Just finished uploading my newest Aussie video, showcasing the hectic Monash Freeway in Melbourne.
Awesome mate!
Thank you very much!
Cool ride mate !
Thank you very much!
Great Tour
Great vid Brent :)
Means a lot, coming from a RUclips legend and Melbournian like yourself!
Very cool!
Thank you!
Toronto night drive - Gardiner Expressway - April 2017
Are you driving into Chicago? The freeway twists a bit but as you catch glimpses of downtown it looks like Chicago. Melbourne should be sister city.
Yeah...I see where you thought to compare the two. Good comparison!
Just questioning, how much did CityLink cost? I was comparing it to a couple other tollways (Highway 407 in Toronto, PA Turnpike, NY Thruway) and seeing which one was better feasible for through traffic and intercity traffic, while not having to pay an arm and a leg.
Carlos Vera return trip via all of citylink is about $14.00. it sucks. I avoid traveling on half of it.
Just a curious question
How are you all the way in Australia and most of your videos are from North America?
Either airplane or boat. Take your pick
Hey there. I live near San Francisco, but I'm actually in a long-distance relationship, with my girlfriend living in Sydney. Started dating back in August, when she came to visit San Francisco a year ago. I finally went to visit for 3 weeks in January, so I ended up grabbing a bunch of footage from Sydney, Melbourne and vicinity. We plan on driving up to Brisbane next January, so I'll be grabbing more footage around there and the Gold Coast area, and finally Perth, later in 2017.
Oh damn that explains why you posted just now.
It's actually my 4th Australia video now! 1 from Sydney and 2 from Melbourne, with a 4th video showcasing the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. I'll link you to my other Melbourne video, in case you want to watch. ruclips.net/video/1N06_VPb19g/видео.html
When was this video filmed?
Where does the youtuber get the road signs from?
my question exactly
those road are better than those in the Uk or US
1:34 toll point
End of road works
Nice... but billboards as overhead signs on bridges? No, thanks.
Australia - ads on everything.
David Wisbey its not too bad. better then graffiti like the train lines have.
Boring city but has a nice skyline
Vince Abate +Vince Abate I meant boring in terms of the city itself. Like there's nothing unique about it
+Vince Abate I have already been there, twice.....
