I really appreciate that you take the time to do these videos. I never would have known about this adapter if had not made these videos. Its nice to see that I have options other than hasselblad lenes
Glad you liked the video. Just remember that you have to use electronic shutter with these lenses, as they don't have leaf shutters like the Hasselblad lenses. I'll come back with a video on the ins and outs of using the electronic shutter and the disadvantages that it has. But I rarely feel restricted in my kind of photography due to this fact.
Thank you for the Videos with Canon Lenses. I have many FD Lenses, so also the 85/1.2 and the 85/1.8. I'm still waiting for the Novoflex FD Adapter to test the FD Lenses on my 907X. The X2D still has to wait for me, but it's my dream😟
I find the Canon EF lenses produce slightly more muted colors, but I haven't done any side by side testing. The older Canon FD lenses are even more muted and also has less contrast.
Interesting review. I had it on the gfx and it worked nicely wide open. Unfortunately a lot of vignette at higher aperture number. Quite unusual behaviour. Did you experience the same?
The adapter has AF, but it doesn't work dependably with all Canons EF lenses. With some, like the 85mm f1.2 it is quite reliable, with others like the 85mm f1.8 in this review, it works sometimes but you can't rely on it. So it is a matter of finding out, which lenses it works with. When I have tested some more EF lenses, I'll do a review of the adapter and state which lenses I have good results with, and which doesn't work - at least when speaking of AF - cause aperture control and EXIF information has solar worked for all the lenses i have tested.
what about the 85 mm f/2 (AI) and the 105 mm f/2.5 (AI) Nikon lenses? Did you ever try them on the X2D 100? On the X1D II they work pretty well. But do they match with the 100mp sensor?
Unfortunately, I don't have any of those lenses, and none of my friends do. If I could my hands on them, I would love to try them out on the X2D and make a review.
@@key2adventure Hello, thank you for the prompt reply. Both lenses are pretty perfect portrait lenses, the 105 even slightly better than the 85. Both are low budget, meanwhile. I bought the 105 x years ago for 160 DM. It is a legend. Quote Ken Rockwell: "This classic manual focus lens, one of Nikon's greatest of all time."
Since the Hasselblad X-Cameras do not have a shutter (since they rely on the leaf shutter in the lens) the electronic shutter must be used. Therefore it would be interesting, if normal photos of people can be takten. Or the rolling shutter effect too pronounced? Did you correct potential vignietting in postprocessing?
Yes, you are perfectly right regarding rolling shutter. I have shot a few images of people, but the results haven't been very good, unless they are standing still. You can see that kind of results in my video on the best images of 2022, as I did a wedding shoot with my Hasselblad X1D mark ii using a Canon EF 135mm L f2.0 lens. Beautiful results, but the bride and groom knew how to perform. Otherwise, I guess it wouldn't come out so nice. I tried shooting some bikers with electronic shutter, the results were weird though also to some extent quite interesting. I think it can be exploited artistically, but don't expect perfect results. Regarding vignetting, I have done no correction, as I want to show the actual performance of the lens.
The flange distance of FE is smaller than XCD therefore it is not possible to make an adapter between these lenses. And I even don't think it would be possible the other way around, as the difference is so small, that no adapter could be made so slim - as far as I know the difference is on around one millimeter.

The FD 85mm f1.2 will be the next review coming up. Unfortunately, at the time beeing I don't have the FD f1.8 version, so I wont be able to make a review of that.

As said in the video, I’ll be doing a review of the 85mm f1.2, but I haven’t got access to the FD 85mm f1.8.
Very nice bokeh shot... can please differentiate if it has color difference between hasselblad and canon lenses

Thanks for your review. May I suggest to silence the music during spoken comments as at 4:02 😉

Yes, exactly the same behaviour. But I find it a pleasing lens to work with anyway, although I prefer the much more expensive 85mm f1.2
The X2D auto-focuses with phase difference, but does the TCX-01 auto-focus?

Can you use Sony fe lens ?
