    It just amazes me that you have done these reviews every week since 2014 and after six years you STILL Haven't done All the Joes and vehicles....shows you how much they made in that 12 year run.

    When I was 9 and found out Storm Shadow was no longer in Cobra but was in GI Joe, everyone at school wanted Storm Shadow but no one's parents could find him anywhere. I think I was one of the first to have the new Storm Shadow. Version 2 is really Storm Shadow to me.

  • @tonyjackson4078
    @tonyjackson4078 3 года назад +17

    It's crazy that Snake Eyes is so cemented as a ninja that we forget Storm Shadow was basically the reason Snake Eyes was turned into a ninja in story. Snake Eyes first figure was the Commando...sure he knew martial arts, but Hama's story Silent Interlude, Storm Shadows first appearance set the stage for Snake Eyes, the Ninja.

    • @gishmoe3088
      @gishmoe3088 3 года назад +1

      Actually, issue #10 first revealed Snake-Eyes' ninja past. A full year before Storm Shadow. Although it is possible Larry Hama was privy to the 1984 plans at this time.

    • @tonyjackson4078
      @tonyjackson4078 3 года назад

      @@gishmoe3088 you are correct. I forgot about those panels. Storm Shadow may have indeed been looming though as the Hardmasters heartbeat technique is directly referenced. I still feel Storm Shadow is why they went with Snake Eyes being a ninja. It seemed rather abrupt as he was essentially just "mystery man" beforehand.

    • @gishmoe3088
      @gishmoe3088 3 года назад

      @@tonyjackson4078 Yes. I do agree that Snake Eyes was retconned as a ninja *because* of Storm Shadow. It only makes sense that Hama received character designs early from Hasbro in order to write up the files cards. (There is other evidence to support this, such as the early appearance of the Dreadnoks.) This worked out for the better, I think. Issue 10 made his connection to Storm Shadow feel a lot less convenient.

    • @tonyjackson4078
      @tonyjackson4078 3 года назад

      @@gishmoe3088 it was at the time a good direction as while Snake Eyes was a cool looking character, beyond never speaking he needed some meat to his story. Hasbro and even Hama went a little "Ninja Crazy" tho. I was much more ok with Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, Billy the apprentice, and Jinx the next generation.
      Then hey...Zartan is a ninja, Firefly is a ninja....the red Ninjas are rogue Arishikage....calm down lol.

    I always assumed that Storm Shadow joined Cobra as a viper and proved himself to rise to CC's bodyguard. I think there was a later GI Joe comic that explained this.

    While the 1984 Storm Shadow is iconic, my favorite is the V.2 one. I always used Storm Shadow as a double agent for the Joes when he was with Cobra. Having him switch sides was a bonus.

  • @MuscleDad420
    @MuscleDad420 3 года назад +5

    As a kid in the early 90's you nailed it. My friend had the '88 version and I had a good amount of the early comics (Including "Silent Interlude," which blew my mind as a 6 year old comic book reader) so I was familiar with Storm Shadow as he was first depicted in '84. But I was given the '92 Storm Shadow new off the peg as a Christmas gift. I had the whole collection of the 12" Hall of Fame figures too! This was Storm Shadow to me.

  • @glennrobbins2372
    @glennrobbins2372 3 года назад +1

    I bought the 12" H.o.F Storm Shadow, Duke and 3 other 12" GI Joe figures and put them away for my son. Later when he was old enough I bought him a few more of what was the anniversary of the classic line. The articulation was not the same. You can bend them at the elbow and knee but it takes some effort and makes a loud sound of plastic racheting against itself. V3 was also part of the box of Joes I bought for him at a yard sale. Both became snow ninjas when he played with them.

      @AnthonySforza 3 года назад +1

      It's rather intriguing to me, that despite Tommy being a "Cobra" ninja, Snake Eyes (The "good guy") is the aggressor in that rivalry. Where Storm Shadow doesn't hold anything against him... he's just kind of in the way, a lot. However, Snake Eyes has a hell of a grudge to exact upon Storm Shadow.
      Which, let's be honest... Is rather good writing, on Hama's part. A but of subversion of expectation, on his part.

    I was a fan of earlier GI Joe and the original Storm Shadow was one of my first figures. By the time Ninja Force debuted, I had pretty much given up on GI Joe, with my final hurrah coming from getting the GI Joe General Mobile Headquarters two Christmases prior, and losing all interest shortly thereafter. Then, one day in late 1992 or early 1993 (I was around 12 by then,) I went into a Toy Works toy store in Torrington, CT. I remember going down the "Reduced for Quick Sale" aisle was stopped dead in my tracks by several Rolling Thunders marked down to $22!!! Even though I hadn't cared about GI Joe for a good 2 years, the collector inside me couldn't resist grabbing one at that price, since by then, I usually had my own money (I think I had about $80 on me that day.) That particular store often had somewhat outdated toys from numerous franchises (86-87 Lego sets in 1990, 89 WWF Hasbro figures in 1992, etc.) which was one of the reasons I would ask my parents to bring me there even though it was a good 45 minute drive from ur house and there were other closer toy stores, but I digress... Anyhow, since I was getting a Rolling Thunder, I checked out the regular GI Joe aisle, since I now was somewhat inspired to drag all my old Joes out of the attic. I came across this version of Storm Shadow and grabbed him as well, as I was genuinely taken back by the level of detail on him. So... I went home with my Version 3 Storm Shadow and deeply discounted Rolling Thunder and proceeded to be back into GI Joe for several months before losing interest again. So.... this Storm Shadow was my last vintage GI Joe figure I purchased as a child. Even though I had the original, I can honestly say I think this Storm Shadow was actually my favorite of the three (actually, back then, I don't think I even realized the second version existed, but still...) Sorry for the rambling narrative of my last GI Joe purchases... Just though of it when I saw this figure.

    Version 2 of Stormshadow is my favorite but I also had this one as a kid and I like it as well. This version is my second favorite look for Stormshadow. I like the white to black to white transition and design of this version and whe I was a kid I saw it as a yin and yang design for the character; he was a bad guy with Cobra then found out that he was lied to and that Zantan had really killed Hardmaster and sought redemption and left Cobra joined the Joes and forgave Snakeeyes. The color scheme also works for cold weather missions as well but I always saw it as a yin/yang since he went from bad guy to good guy and I think that theme fits his character

    Although this particular version is by no means better than versions 1 or 2, I have to say that the overall sculpt and the color scheme of this figure is pretty decent. The sword could have been better designed and sculpted, even the 12 inch version somehow got that right. The Classified Series re-interpretation of this version of Storm Shadow turned out to be a pretty cool figure, but still I wish they had chosen v1 or v2 instead.

  • @Psychof1st

    For the figures, I like version 2 the best. The 80's cartoon version (sleeveless) is an awesome-er* interpretation of the version 1 figure than the v1 figure. IMO
    *I don't care if it's not a real word. It gets my point across.
    And Amazon keeps hosing me. By delaying my G i Joe classified Arctic Storm Shadow order by a month to a month and a half. Meanwhile, new scalpers showed up since I placed my order on Aug. 26th. A couple sellers are even fulfilled by Amazon. WTH!

    In the comic there is evidence of Snake Eyes being a ninja before issue 21, Silent Interlude. In an earlier issue he drops his heartbeat to simulate being dead to escape the brain wave scanner, and there is a panel that shows a masked individual in meditation. I don't know if the date of that issue predates the Storm Shadow figure.

      Came here to say that. Also, I will add that those joints are exactly like the Barbie ones. In that the joint mechanism (if you can call it that) was concealed as the entire leg is covered/coated by a layer of rubber or very soft plastic. To make it look/feel more real.
      Note:
      I wonder if that layer eventually cracks from a lot of uses, or even just from enough time passing. At last the ones with pants and sleeves will cover those cracks.
      I have a few of them and a couple of the Street Fighter ones stored away somewhere.

    Resolute must be that oddity in canon that everyone chooses to forget... it was presented as a sequel to the original cartoon but ignored the movie & Dic series completely. Storm Shadow was back to being a Cobra ninja and had even less honor than in the Sunbow episodes. Overall I think the fans have taken to regarding Resolute as unrelated to the cartoon canon despite writer intentions because of all the continuity snarls, and at best only acknowledge it had a few interesting toys.

    When the V1 storm shadow comes out in the classified line it’s selling out immediately

    This isn't the worst Storm Shadow; but it certainly isn't the best either. I don't think any self respecting ninja would ever wear gold. But it least it isn't as garish as some of the other day-glow ninjas of the 90's.

    I did modify three modern Storm Shadow figurines into Cobra snow troopers.

    The hood is comically big on that classified series storm shadow. Totally ridiculous

    I didnt know they cut the articulation on the hall of fame figures. I was never into them , but how disappointing
