    • @christhornycroft3686
      @christhornycroft3686 Год назад +8

      Speaking as a former competitive swimmer, being picked 4th for the National team would have worked great for me. Less pressure to perform and if you do end up doing well, nobody sees you coming and you get far more recognition for your accomplishments. Shane Wright is too dumb and arrogant for his own good. Being drafted 1st just means that chances are, you'll never reach anyone's expectations of you. People expect that a 1st overall pick is going to tear it up the moment they get into the NHL and for the next 10-15 years, and if they don't, they're instantly cast as a bust and I'm sure you would feel that pressure and disappointment as a hockey player. When I went to Olympic Trials in 2000 and finished 4th in the 100 Freestyle in Montreal, it was no fun going back to school because everyone expected that I would medal. Having those kinds of unrealistic expectations can destroy a person.

    Shannon, great work as per usual and I love the consistent effort invested into your channel. That being said I’m curious as to rationale that you / viewers would have for leaving Konecny off the list
    Everyone from Crouse down could arguably be replaced by Konency. Crouse lacks offensive upside, Stromer is finally consistently logging points after disappointing in Arizona, Roslovic is a Swiss Army knife but limited, and Zacha / Roy are honestly both hipster picks who only recently became notable.
    Meanwhile, Konecny has been in the league for 6 seasons. His rookie season was fine but he’s otherwise had 4/6 seasons in which he was a consistent 20G / 30A player who can play anywhere in your top 9. His one truly “down” year came during the covid year when we knew after the fact that he was expecting a child which, planned or not, can weigh on a player. Other than that I get there’s questions to defensive game and compete level but his offensive upside and natural instinct for the net is totally present.

    Nice to see Roy get some love, he in my opinion is the most underrated Defensmen in the NHL, the guy is damn near a unicorn his fancy stats are excellent his regular stats are fantastic and the eye test confirms the stats, he's been called " Steady Eddy" though I think that under sells him and his game I prefer to think of him as "Steady Borderline Elite Eddy" also that rookie class he was a part of was magic for D, 2 elites (Makar & Fox) 2 borderline elites (Roy & Hughes) and 5+ really good d-men (Marino,Bear,Gavrikov,Lindgren, and Fabro) as well as Soucy and Phillip Myers (who still has potential) just a bunch of talent on the back end that rookie class

    • @rickyhazel1030
      @rickyhazel1030 Год назад +1

      @NaPo7 Roy and Hughes are the same player at opposite ends of the spectrum, Hughes is elite offensively underrated defensively, Roy is elite defensively underrated offensively, Roy is a 25-30 point (82 game pace) guy yet for some reason people think he has no offense. He may not be as good offensively as Hughes but Roy will get 200 hits and 150 blocked shots Hughes won't, neither will Marino and Roy has fantastic possession #'s and to be honest the Norris outside of the last 2 seasons hasn't necessarily been a great measure of defensive acumen, irrespective to my opinion that was still a fantastic group of defensmen

    Putting Karill Kaprisov at #2 is a bit weird. I am not saying his point production and overall impact on the team isn't worth it, but we do need to consider how late he entered the league. Is it optimal to draft someone in 2015 and have them start their first season in 2020-21 at 24 years old? I'd have to imagine Marner's or Rantanen's contributions amount to more than that.

    • @jeffreym.8957
      @jeffreym.8957 Год назад +1

      It's not based on contributions so far, or Eichel wouldn't have fallen so much, if at all.
      I think what THG is trying to do is, if you know everything about these guys at this point in time, who would you be drafting right now for the future? I think that is the interpretation.

      Who would you take now? It isn't like either one of those two led their team to a Cup while Kaprizov was still in Russia. Also, Marner and Rantanen play with Matthews and McKinnon, so they aren't even the best player on their line.

    • @Katie-hb8iq

    I still think Columbus would take Werenski if they had it to do over again. The jackets traded with Toronto for the 27th pick planning to take Roslovic and were surprised when Winnipeg took him at #25. So the Jackets selected Gabriel Carlsson instead (big mistake). A few picks later, Carolina took Aho. Jarmo was criticized for that move at the time. His response was "I can't select a guy solely based on what country he's from" as Kekalainen and Aho are both from Finland. That's one of very few mistakes Jarmo has made.
