    I grew up being discouraged from water breaks during wrestling practices-- which were three hours. We were miserable but fine, but at some point, your throat gets so dry it won't open after you swallow.
    Drink water. We're made of it.

    • @StevenP727

      If you could go back in time and be allowed to drink water would you? Or keep it the same?

    • @gravypatron
      @gravypatron 17 дней назад +13

      @StevenP727 I'd drink it. I ended up working a very hot job for years as an adult and would watch tough guys fall out for not drinking water while they worked. We lost 3 in one day, usually the young guys. You're body isn't the same after that happens. A wrestling room with 60 guys wearing sweats is no better an environment. Great question. 👍

    • @PsychologyStud
      @PsychologyStud 17 дней назад +5

      Same. In both high school and college we would have “weight cutting” practices where you get yelled at by the other wrestlers if you drink water. I have never had a coach enforce that, but they allowed the athletes to enforce that. Water was for after practice. If you had a competition coming up, water was for after practice IF you are on track to making weight haha. That was so unhealthy!

    • @SergioMendoza760
      @SergioMendoza760 17 дней назад +3

      Agreed. My coaches let us get water about every hour, to an hour and a half every single practice. And our practices were the same about 3 hours long a day. So 2 water breaks were typical on any given day, that were like less than 30 seconds to a full minute. It was honestly a perfect system because I feel like we all had really great endurance and cardio but also weren’t killing ourselves during those hard practices.

  • @chriswrench7496
    @chriswrench7496 17 дней назад +1

    I don't see the problem with it. She isn't banning people from having a drink for the entire length of camp, so if her fighters arrive to training hydrated and rehydrate once the session is over, it isn't likely to harm them. From a psychological point of view, she may have a valid point. It's basically preventing them from programming themselves into anticipating or expecting a break in order to focus fully on the task ahead instead. It's probably less dangerous than a fighter ending up putting themselves into a vulnerable position with a minute left if the final round, because they start looking forward to a few swigs of water.

    Thats crazy, football player actually died? Ive heard of people fainting, that seems to be pretty common I mean we had people fainting when i was in track as a teenager, people sitting on the side cause they felt overheated but death? Not surprised.
    I get what she's trying to do, she's trying to build mental toughness but it can hinder performance which is ultimately what you're trying to improve, cardio and your ability to perform while having the most optimal diet and water is part of that diet. I personally would never recommend someone to train dehydrated, not only will your performance be hindered but so will your motivation to push your bodies limits.
    Training back then was based off broscience, and coaches would often say no pain no gain, would restrict you from breaks, would call you a girl if you gave up too soon, it was military level stuff. Valentina is part of that generation which would explain her method of training.

    In football when I was younger I had a coach that would take our water and pour it at our feet all week long if we lost a game. If we won we got one mouthful halfway threw practice.. but I do think it made us stronger and try harder in those games. Just my opinion tho.

  • @DarthBalsamic
    @DarthBalsamic 18 дней назад

    I personally don't see the big deal. She made it clear that it was ok to get your water intake in before and after. It is what it is. I think she has the right to make that a rule as a coach; and chances are she and her team apply it for themselves. I think she has a bit more credibility because she's won in her career. I'm obviously not a fighter, nor do I train like one, but I work out, and sometimes I do think the water is a distraction.
    Anyways, I figure the guys she's coaching will be alright. She's not trying to hurt them. She appreciates them. She's not standing behind them with a whip or something.

    There are certain things in life that are our inalienable rights of the Constitution(given to us by God). Drinking water and taking a crap. You may be polite and ask a boss if you can excuse yourself for them. But if they say no and you deem it an emergency...you're gonna do what you gotta do. My 3rd day of Marine boot camp I was constipated from the stress and hadn't taken a crap since I left home. So during class I raise my hand and asked to be excused to go to the Head. Several recruits had asked before me and were denied because it wasn't an "emergency". So after being telled no, I dropped my pants and walked to a trash can. The DI bust up laughing and told the class to pay attention to what a real emergency was...and yelled at me to got to the Head. While I'm crapping he bangs on the door and tells me I'm finished. I went psycho and started punching the wall and cussing at him at the top of my lungs. He laughed and walked away and we never spoke about it again. Drinking water when your body really needs it is the same and worth fighting for.

    I KINDA get where she’s coming from. But an entire practice with no water is a little excessive to say the least. My coaches have done like “alright let’s try and do like 30 minutes to an hour no water.” Sure! no problem I feel like most of us who have been in a wrestling room know what that’s like and can do it. More often than not in that time frame you’re not even going to want it or think about it anyways. But a whole practice is like some David goggin’s and Tony Ferguson stuff, it’s just excessive. It’s also not realistic, if you want water when you’re in a fight and you ask for it your corner is going to give it to you because that’s why you brought them there.
