- DIY Painting New Construction Exterior Siding: Dad and I painted all the wood board and batten siding on the outside of the house. We used the Graco Magnum X7 Airless Paint Sprayer with a 515 tip. The siding is made from lumber that we cut down off the property. Before putting the siding up, I primed all sides of it with Kilz 3 Primer. For the final coat, we used Sherwin Williams Resilience Exterior Paint in the color Web Grey. We applied one coat, and a few days later I went back and applied the second coat.
We are not professional painters, or experts, but we managed to get good results from this project.

You and your father did an excellent job and I wish you would come over and finish my house now!! I am painting with a brush and I am ready to cry!!!!
I love the shade of grey with the wood stain that you used. Love how you and your sweet daddy are working together…making special memories of time together❤❤
I love your dad❤ and how thoroughly he’s explaining the setup because I’m about to purchase a graco and setup looks a little intimidating on various videos. ❤wisdom is priceless.
Lil' tip...when you prime the sprayer with paint, the smaller drain tube needs to be on the outside of your paint bucket (and in the waste pail) so that water in the sprayer from when you primed with water doesn't drain and mix into your paint, which is what happened. Nice work though and great video overall! 👍
Good to know...
Thank you for that TIP
Great video and I appreciate the tips, just started spraying yesterday and feel like I unlocked a new hack. Been a contractor forever but painting the exterior of a house, this is a must have. More important than the machine is a mask and eye protection. I was glad to see your dad wearing it, please wear them next time so we can enjoy more vids from you and you can enjoy that in which you work on. All the best.
You can go down to a .12 and a .10 so a 310 / 312. Depending on how rough the surface is, even way down to a 308 / 408 with acrylic / latex paint straight out of the tin. Also the tip to use is a FFLP tip so cuts way down on overspray, sprays about half the pressure doesn't go through near enough materials. The tail is a block in your gun filter. After you've finished take the handle apart and run water through it with the gun handle off using the machine. And stick a new filter in the gun for next use. So you've prob cleaned your filter after using it I find they are a throw away item after use. Old guys spraying alright though make those few changes and you won't be able to tell, his technique is spot on almost. Actually both you going alright on that I'd have you labour for me for sure.
You make this look easy. I love that board & batten siding. This color works great.
Dad has great tips. Thank you
Fantastic job!! Make time to give a BIG hug to your dad. Thank you for creating the video so all of us can learn. That's what RUclips is all about.Thanks.......Bill.
Thank you, Thank you! You are the first person that showed how to clean-out the sprayer. Although I didn’t understand what you did when you unattached the hose from the sprayer, and your dad was holding the other end.
I'm going to have to get me a few more buckets
you all did good,. I would add safety glasses and a mask. and maybe some gloves.
be careful laying on that ladder, I use to do that, I got a sore on my shin, it took over a year to heal, I am a diabetic.,
i wound use a tip extinction. like 12 inches.. oil the pump before you start and use hot soapy water.
when you get through, use RV anti freeze before putting it up, don't want it to frezze. maybe ware gloves.
I enjoyed watching, my daughter use to work like you all do. we had fun. do spray laytex when the temp i below 50 F.
get a longer piece of cardboard. keep having fun.
John.
Is what you're calling Tip Extensions... they also call Wand Extension?
Where can you buy that? Like Harbor Freight?
Outstanding
Congratulations, you did a great job .. blessings 🙏
Awesome teamwork guys, from start to finish
Great job 👏 👍
AWESOME GAL ! 😍
Excellent job
Nice work. I always like working with my Dad on projects. Cherish it while u can! I just acquired a new Graco Magnum x5 which is I think one model under yours and I used it to spray all the trim and casings in a 4 bedroom house recently and I absolutely loved it! I took a chance on it at my local Lowe's on sale for $329 and it's been well worth the money. Keep up the good work 👍👍
Your house looks awesome. Great job you two.
Great video! Thanks
Omg I just randomly found your channel by you tube suggestion and I just want to say thank you to you and your dad! I just bought one of these sprayers and your tutorial on set up use and clean up was super helpful! Thank you so much! Also your home looks great! Love the color and the wood!
Thank you for the video
Nice job
Excellent work. Thanks for the start up instructions. I was given one but no idea if it works. Now I can test it. Btw, beautiful country home.
Thank you
that's a million dollar house. when can I move in? lol great job.
Olá tenho duas vantagens em assistir o vídeo além de praticar a pintar ainda aprender inglês
If you want your expensive sprayer to last, put sprayer guard liquid (Graco makes it) into the machine if you don't plan to use it for more than 48 hours.
EXCELLENT VIDEO
Thank You for sharing this video
Question:
Since it has be 1 year... Do you still like this Graco Sprayer?
I need to buy one to Spray my Stucco House... because I usually Roll my paint on, but this Stucco is SOOOOO THICK it is tearing up my expensive Rollers.
I wish my wife was like you
Crazy comment 😂😂
There is always little fingers with these tips. Just minimize it as much as possible and overlap. You will not see them when paint is dry. Even on dry wall. The low pressure tips don't have the fingers and are more feathered out. Good job.
Great job in painting your house with your Dad! You're so lucky to have your Dad with you! Cherish those moments! One question on your cleaning.did you put in Pump Armor into the pump before you stored it away? It keeps your pump lubricated and ready to go for the next job. Anyways great video!!
Thanks, I know, I am so lucky to have my Dad around and him still have the health to do stuff like this. We didn't put the pump armor in it this time because we were going to use it again in a few days. But yes, that is always a good idea. Thanks!
what's the maintenance you've had to give the spraygun? during all the time you've owned?
How much paint you all go through with the spayer?
Did you put on the primer with the sprayer as well? Also did the rough surface require working the primer and/or paint in the surface with a brush? Thx!
TIP #1 NEVER move the prime/spray valve with pressure in the line and the rig turned on. First turn the spray rig OFF.....Then pull the trigger on the gun to relief the pressure then turn it to prime. IF you dont do this you WILL be buying a new prime/spray valve a LOT and they are not cheap.
How long did it take to paint the house ?
it looks good, but the bottom of the board and batten strips (that horizontal piece) makes me nervous.
what paint colors?
That house would've definitely sucked doing it by hand
Great job. Can you give me what shade of Gray this paint if from Sherwin Williams. Please. I was looking for this shade.
Webb Gray - Sherwin Williams
When you prime a sprayer you supposed to have 2 buckets. One for paint. 1 for waste.
Yeah - 1 qt of custom match paint was $40 yesterday at 40% off. Yikes!!!
olive juice
Hola como estas cariño me gusta mucho como mujer trabajadora eres muy especial,yo también hago ese tipo de trabajo,mi nombre es Víctor de Dominican Republic
Cutie wear a mask and hairnet. Question , did you get a quote for your job from a licensed contractor, if so , what did he quote your job for $? I like your father and daughter diy projects.
i think ill stick with the old fashioned tried and true brush and roller. seems like the same amount of energy saved with spraying is wasted in preparation and clean up is even worse.
Take the guard and tip off when you prime the gun. Very time consuming and messy the way you’re doing it
How long and how many buckets of paint did it take to do the house? Looks really nice!
Nice job
Thank you!
