- I've lived in Cleveland (Detroit Shoreway area, I'd highly recommend it) for just over a year now. I like it way more than I thought I would.
There is so much food and beer in this city, it's nuts! So many amazing little restaurants and eateries.. I like that chains are almost nowhere to be found.
I love living near the lake. It makes for breezy weather, beautiful parks, extra activities and easy navigation.
...but I hate the river, and all of the traffic problems it causes. There's a never-ending amount of construction but even worse is the idiotic & unsafe ways in which they approach it.
The worst part about Cleveland is... it's still Ohio. We are abysmally average (or worse) in just about every way. Our local politics suck. Our state politics are worse.
But Cleveland is a pretty good city to live in, way (way!) better than its reputation would lead you to believe.

I'm not a Cleveland native, but I lived there for about 5 years before I move to D.C. But the long and the short of it is that I miss Cleveland and I think about the place everyday even though I have been gone for over a decade.

I am from Cleveland and moved to Charlotte, and I miss Cleveland every day. It's something about it 5 I am not sure why. It's sure Charlotte is lovely, but it doesn't have an authentic feel!

@@zythr9999 …Cleveland was the first city in North America to have a direct line from downtown to Hopkins International Airport via the Rapid Transit System.
The buses cover most of Cuyahoga County and a couple of routes cross into nearby counties.
Cities in Ohio, even the largest one Columbus cannot compare to the system in Cuyahoga County.
We value our transit system because people have to work for a living, and for some, public transit is a necessity.

Didn't the RTA have to (*temporarily) shut down the blue line because a bridge damn-near collapsed, less than a year after a conductor collided w another car in Shaker Square?

As a Detroiter I been to Cleveland once in 8th grade in 98’ for my 8th grade trip.. I loved Rock and Roll museum.. and food was good too.
great video! i live 2.5 hours south of Cleveland. been driving to northern Ohio for the last 25 years for concerts, zoos, museums, aquariums and general culture. and food Cleveland is an awesome city.

Just visited Cleveland this weekend and LOVED it!! I def think it gets a bad rep; the “bad” areas of town didn’t feel inherently unsafe, esp considering compared to other similar sized cities. Barely heard any sirens all weekend either, like I hear more police sirens visiting Indianapolis. Ppl are friendly, traffic wasn’t bad, and the food was amazing! Can’t wait to come back.

Thanks for the very ‘real’ video Marcus. I moved here a couple of years ago to retire because of the affordability, culture, friendly people and other reasons you mention. The cloudiness is my biggest challenge, but I love the city, the variety of weather, and diversity. I am glad that natives like yourself are realizing that Cleveland can provide a really good life. I had to leave and I came back. I’ve lived in Atlanta, NYC, and DC and there is no place like home, especially for the cost of living and all of our great attractions…and the food!

Between 1890 and 1970 Cleveland was in the top 10 largest cities in the US peaking in 1920 as the 5th largest; it had a max population of 914,808 in the 1950. The people of the time were taxed and invested in their communities and accordingly. The housing stock is old and sturdy having the 5th oldest housing stock for a large US city. Suburban sprawl is not that notable and you can get to everyplace you want to be within an hour car ride. RTA (public transit) will move you within Cuyahoga county pretty well; in my opinion it only lags behind NYC and Chicago.
I have passed through and stopped in Cleveland so many times between Chicago and the East Coast.
I like university circle, tremont, Ohio city, and the west side lakefront neighborhoods.
I have found the people to be down to earth and friendly.
Despite our weather being unpredictable, I take solace in knowing we avoid the extreme/disasterous weather for the most part.

That's true. I lived on the East and West Coast and was threatened by earthquakes and hurricanes.
I grew up in Northeast Ohio and have always considered myself a proud Clevelander even though I lived in Portage County. I have a lot of inlaws from the East Coast and New England who love the Cleveland/Akron/Canton area once they experience it and are surprised at all the wonderful things the area has to offer. Cleveland is much more than a river catching fire decades ago! Thanks for your positive commentary on our home.

Old Brooklyn is the place to be in the city . Diversity is everywhere very up in coming neighborhood. Great food great people 👍. Very affordable .
Cleveland is a crime ridden toilet, lived here all my life.
I spent total of 6 months in Cleveland (3 months at a time). It’s an awesome city with very nice, educated people. Good energy. Good economy. I miss it as well. I would take Cleveland any day of the week over the sunbelt!!

Cleveland native here myself. One thing I always tell who are from other parts is: East Cleveland and the east side of Cleveland are 2 different cities. To confuse you more: East Cleveland is a suburb that sits in between cleveland that is located on the east side.

I'm Buffalo born and raised, and moved to Cleveland at thirty nine for a new start and a job opportunity. Now, twenty seven years later, I have to admit I do like it here. I'll most likely live here until I die and that's okay. I will say the crime is pretty bad, although you did mention all large cities have that problem of course, which is true - and that's the only downfall I can bring up. Some parts are VERY dangerous though - but mostly in the East Side and the Heights "suburbs" even though those are all actually separate cities. Up until a few years ago I lived in Maple Heights and that's NOT a nice place to live. I'm in Lyndhurst now and it's much better here. Just be careful in the Eastern cities and certain parts of the city and you should be okay and ALWAYS have your head on a swivel waiting at red lights with your doors locked. The "Kia boys" take your car at gunpoint these days.

Live in western suburbs. I go into town 4 or 5 times a year. Usally never feel real safe even after sporting events. You’re usally confronted by some homeless drug addicts or beggars . I’ve had to run stop lights to avoid confrontation with potential car jackers or sellers. My sons seem to accept this more than me but won’t spend more time down town unless they clean up the drugs and crime.

Born and raised in Cleveland. Lived on both sides of the city - St. Clair/Superior and West Park. I'm in Cincinnati now but considering a move back to C Town in the spring.
I was born and raised in the St Rocco area on the west side. I left in the late 70’s after being laid off from the Ford motor company. I’ve been back for weddings and funerals and always drive through the old neighborhood. It breaks my heart to see how that area has declined. It’s sad to see the empty lots where the houses have burned down. I found a couple of the houses that I lived in where boarded up. I have some great memories of living in Cleveland and sometimes wish that I never left.
Hey, Marcus. I was born in Cleveland and spent the first six years of my life there. West side. Edgewater Hill, just south of Battery Park. Even back in the fifties, there was good and bad. I remember my family talking about the Flats as a place not to be caught dead in, because you just might be.
I spent 4 years in the Navy. It was in an office, in New Jersey. When I got out, some of the locals asked me what I had planned to do. Without a second thought, I said "move back to Cleveland". They looked at me as if I was a necrophiliac! Northerhn Jersey is SO expensive, and in most neighborhoods, it's a dump. Having a yard, or a garage? Out of the question. Summers in Joisey? fuhgettaboudit!

Visited Cleveland in 2012 and Columbus in 2021. I would LOVE to visit Clevelend again (and especially take a trip to Cedar Point) as well as give some more consideration to relocating here since many New Yorkers are migrating from here. Too damned expensive!

Hi again, J.J. 🙂 I don't have any kids so I wouldn't be relocating for that purpose. I don't know the first thing about Sandusky other than the amusement park that we mentioned. I also know very little about Cleveland other than the parts that we visited. We found the downtown area to be much more low-key than the downtown comparative to NYC. That's not a good comparison, I know, but it was a relaxed feeling nonetheless. My family and I were always amused when people (from Cleveland) would ask what made us want to visit Ohio? 😆

Thank you. Im tired of people hating on my city. The revitalized downtown entertainment district is fire! Cleveland added a huge chandelier in the middle of the street, but it's so pretty. The superman super hero was created in Cleveland and there are plans in the works to add a statue as well some historical context.
I was born and raised here. The area south of miles near i480 is really nice. keruish park has tennis courts, covered picnic pavillions, playgrounds, a walking trail, baseball diamonds, an outdoor swimming pool and basketball hoops.
This area is one of the best kept secrets . There is an abundance of wooded areas, so it's really quiet and peaceful. People often mistake the area for the suburbs. Large ranch homes with big yards. Some residents have in ground pools. The home values have risen in recent years. Its nice seeing people walk their dogs or family on evening walks. I heard the city has plans to revitalize the area. We do our part by maintaining our home and keeping the area clean. Unfortunately, it seems like as soon as any area looks like it's on the rise... here come the thugs and criminals. That happens in every major mid size or large city though.

Nice video! I'm from Cleveland. In terms of culture, I'd say the east side is better than the west side. All the museums are either on the east side or downtown. The Opportunity Corridor is nice, and I love the new Fairfax Market.

As a person from DFW who’s been looking for an escape from heat/state politics and now cost of living Cleveland is looking better every time I research or find RUclips videos. Has the infrastructure of a big city but only 350k population. We are the opposite down here, it can’t keep up, traffic is terrible. Trade the 5 months of inferno for 4 months of winter is a even trade I suppose. And a home that costed 150k in 2013 is 400k in 2023 in DFW. And no drought, something that is coming regardless if we believe it or not, water will be the most important resource very soon and the Great Lakes regions have that covered. Now I gotta check out Milwaukee. Those seem to be my top two with Pittsburgh a close third. Keep up the good work !

Youd say Cleveland’s rail transit is superior to DC, Philly, Boston, SF?
RTA rail is not great. It is good in certain suburbs; Shaker Heights, Beachwood, East Cleveland, Brookpark. It does get you downtown for a game and to the airport from the eastside. Buses are abundant and work well.
I saw a lot of Cleveland as a truck driver and when I drove Greyhound! I actually was thinking about moving to Cleveland along time ago but I decided to stay in Detroit

Thank you for your video but let's not associate poverty with the east side of Cleveland. There are poor people on all sides. I grew up in Cleveland, moved away to NYC, came back to Cleveland and still live on the east side. I do not live in the hood. yes I live in the city of Cleveland (Cleveland proper). I live in a middle-class neighborhood where me and my neighbors get up every morning go to work pay our bills take care of our yards. The East side always gets a bad rap and we have to change that narrative especially for people who are thinking about coming here. let's not forget the wealthy suburbs of the EAST side: Shaker heights, Cleveland heights, Pepper Pike, etc. poverty is everywhere not just on one side of town😊

Hi👋🏼. Broadway & Fleet area that is often on the news for gun murders, children shooting themselves accidentally w/weapons in the homes, abandoned houses with dead bodies inside. Robberies in broad daylight. A lot of trash , garbage on the streets. Stores closing down in those districts. I won't/don't go over that way. So please do a lot of investing and stay safe. Oh they do have a beautiful *Boys & Girls Club Organization/Recreation Center over there for children*

me & my wife live in South Broadway.... i wouldn't say it's the nicest neighborhood but it's far from the worst.
I just seen a comment from a person in California saying they want to move here to get more "bang for their buck". That why people complain about certain people moving to their state and ruining the quality of life. Dont move to a place for money, move there for community, peace of mind and a new journey. Some folks move with greed intentions and that brings nothing but fabrication to a beautiful place.

the rust belt is the rust belt for a reason. even detroit has some positives, but the fact of the matter is, most of the cities are just in rapid decline and that is just the way it is. just look at the neighborhoods that are abandoned around those cities and the crime is not going down but only up

I love Cleveland, but don't live there from and live in y-town. It suck it gets a bad rep but I've taken out of town friends and they were impressed with it.
This person is definitely from Cleveland, I’m an eastern suburb and everything is true they have a lot a good jobs it depends with education like if you’re in Chardon or Middlefield school districts that’s when you shouldn’t go to school there and also the weather its basically unknown cause the last 2 winters it hit 60 degrees in February and we get less and less snow, now if you’re in like Chardon for example or my home town Middlefield that’s when you’re in the snowbelt and get huge lake effect snow, now it’s hot in the summer, they have lots of parks, the Guardians for baseball and lots of great museums and the 2nd best hospital in the world, known as Cleveland Clinic yes Cleveland does have bad neighborhoods and lots of crime but I notice it’s getting safer, Also in the winter we have lots of parks to go to for example Alpine Valley, Brandywine, Boston Mills and Punderson, and many good restaurants and lots of homemade. Also if you’re thinking of moving to the eastern suburbs where I am,the farther you get away from like Mayfield Heights and Beachwood you’ll notice like in Geauga county it gets more country and once it’s Huntsburg, Claridon, Burton, and Middlefield that’s where it gets Amish and in most of Geauga County is mainly just country. Idk lots of things about the west side but I’m sure it’s great like the east side.

Thanks for your perspective. I think you're still in the booster phase where you've got a bit of a chip on your shoulder and you feel you need to defend the city. At some point you reach the cynical phase where you realize that all these non profits and public private partnerships (Downtown Cleveland Alliance, Greater Cleveland Sports Commission) are part of the problem and keep pushing that narrative to benefit their interests, and that only perpetuates the economic stagnation and social unrest of the city.
I think you are one of the only people in the comments section to tell the truth
