That is by far the best mod you’ve done.
Agreed
This looks awesome. I use my truck bed for camping and a few cupholders would be super nice. I'll probably install them in my factory tailgate.
Love the tailgate upgrade! I'll have to do that to my tacoma tailgate and also get the steel panel as well.
Hey! That looks great! I think the texture is a great idea. I enjoy your videos!
Very cool idea. Definitely interested in this.
Hell yeah bro. Looks freaking amazing. Job well done... Thanks for the vid and vids...
I just bought a 55 x17 inch sheet of 16th steel and traced around the old plastic cover and cut it out with a jig saw it cost me 30 bucks. I also took it to a local body shop and had it sprayed with bed liner when they sprayed the next truck that came in for one. That saved me a lot of money. But I'm now going to have to drill some holes in it after seeing your video cause I want some cup holders.🤣
Thanks for the video keep up the good content!!
If I didn't already have the tailgate panel I would have done the same thing as you.
@@Tacomaholic it definitely saves some cash! Thanks for the cup holder idea!!
Looks great my taco brother !
Looks great and a really great idea
Wow looks super good!
Looks great, good job.
Wow! Awesome Finish!!🤠👍 Thats bad ass! Very nice job!!
Looks fantastic! I think I might have to do this exact mod to my Tacoma.
Well done, turned out great!
Wow Brian I’m impressed!!!! That came out really good 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks buddy!
Hey man. Installed this today with the help of my daughter and this is one of the best mods yet. I did cut it a bit larger to tuck but since it’s so thick I had to use duck tape on the back to keep the edges from rolling. My dog’s nails were starting to scratch the powder coat so this works great. . Thanks for posting this!
Awesome glad to hear you are enjoying it!
God that looks just like a Trailgate. Nice work. Whole reason I watched this vid is because I thought I had found the one yt video that wasnt the other brand of tailgate insert lol great job diy-ing it tho
That looks awesome! I"m going to redo my tailgate with a piece of 1/4" ply with cup holders. Either 2 or 4, I haven't decided. I've spilled enough Banquet beers on the grooved panel!
That is awesome 👍🏻you are the Mod Master !
great idea I've been wanting to do this now I have the one to go with awesome job
Wow! Better than factory!
Very nice job…Like it! 👍
Looks awesome!
Great job!
Very good mod! Can't wait to use on my Tacoma
Looks really great.
I like it. Strong work.
Cool mod :-) especially for people that hate seeing scratches on their tailgate.
Thanks! Not only is that textured material really durable, but it should do a great job of hiding any scratches that do happen.
Great Job!!
Such a great idea bud!! My next mod!! Lol Should have called this video "Mountain Hatch hack! But better! 😆
love this mod!!
Oh that looks great....idea of getting some aluminum for the panel is a solid suggestion. The only thing I would say is after you laid the vinyl down you might want to use a laminate scissor roller to press it down and after trimming the edges, reroll them. But it looks great
It does look good!! I’d be down for some cup holders but I have to cut through my bed rug :( might give it a try anyway
Yes, fantastic!
Another awesome mod!
Exceptional!!
Looks awesome! I was thinking about the metal bed rail caps too, theres a guy on TW making them
nice work 👍👍
GREAT DIY mod!
Good job
Love it. Time to spend more money!
Gr8 job 👍👍
best mod so far for the price
Looks great! I like the cup holder mod. Isn't it about time for some mini mods?
I was going to say that it will look stupid but it looks good bro.
1:58 wow there’s lots of room in there. You could incorporate a stove or something 1/2 bulky in there.
Ha ha yeah tons of open space for whatever you want to put in there really.
Looks amazing!
Thank you! Love this mod.
@@Tacomaholic my wife’s a little rough on things, good to know of this mod, thanks!
@@davekana8388 Mine is still holding up great too.
@@Tacomaholic excellent, I’ve never seen that texture film you put on top, interesting!
@@davekana8388 Love it
Amazing mod! Love it! Definitely gonna be doing this mod! Question tho how thick is the metal panel? I’m gonna be making mine completely from scratch
Thanks man! This panel is 1/8" steel.
Hey bud that looks awesome nice job oh yeah your new off-road bumper love it. Any plans on installing a lower bumper light bar? Do you have a video for when you install the Hella horns?
Thanks Rick! Are you asking about a lower bumper light bar for the rear bumper? No video for the Hellas yet but I'm doing one for combining 2 sets of Hellas.
That does look nice. I may try to duplicate that plate from aluminum and add cup holders and storage hatch.
Aluminum would be nice to save some weight.
Love the new look of the tailgate. Cup holders - who would have thought?!
AL Offroad Thought of it first with the "Trailgate" lineup. expanding to multiple trucks
To keep those cup holders insert things secure just use a square or circle of velcro in the bottom to hold it secure. This way you can also pull them out if necessary to clean them.
Two Thumbs Up.
I did the same on my 06 Trd Sport, but I used a 1/4" plywood and covered it with a black speaker carpet,
Are you running a cap on your bed?
@@Tacomaholic A "cap" meaning a camper ? Yes
@@billocampo1365 Gotcha, lol otherwise the carpet probably wouldn't last long.
@@Tacomaholic im in Vegas so it hardly rain out here
I have the same MobTown tailgate thanks to you. 😄 Do you recommend doing the vinyl wrap now while it’s still new or wait till it gets banged up so more? BTW awesome mod and looks sharp.
Thanks man! Doing that textured wrap early will probably prevent the powercoating from starting to peel if you wrap it around the perimeter.
The companies name that originated this idea is ( AL Offroad Products )
Nice mod! How about the rubber mat in the bed? Do you have a link to that?
Nice mod with the textured skin. I always thought the aftermarket panels were slippery otherwise.
If water gets goes beyond the cup holder, it will drain out once you lift the tailgate back up. Water always seems to get in there when I wash the bed.
Mine was never slippery, especially when compared to the factory composite tailgate panel.
3:44 - That’s what she said!
🤣
Great video and mod. I will definitely be doing this to my 2009! I was wondering if you know where I can get seat covers to protect my seats.
Thanks Chris! Clazzio and Wet Okole seam to be the popular choice for quality seat covers.
@@Tacomaholic Thanks for the tip!
I have Carhartt seat covers. Made out of the same material as the pants. And they are machine washable!
Nice job! Why did you go with the self-adhesive rather than a spray on bed liner?
The quality bed liners get pretty expensive and can be tricky to apply with an even coating. The "indestructible" vinyl I used is very affordable and easy to install and would easy to reapply down the road if needed.
What brand bed stiffeners are those?
Hmm. My tailgate panel is ribbed. I wonder if I could manage to put that sheet on. Definitely going to look into the cup holders tho
Do you have the ribbed one from Mobtown? The textured wrap sort of defeats the purpose of the ribbing ... but you could always just flip the panel so the ribs are facing down and put the wrap on the flat underside. (if it is in fact flat)
@@Tacomaholic i do have the mobtown plate. Well just more things to look into lol I do definitely want to do the cupholder mod.
@@CorenelBrake Awesome, I bet the underside of the Mobtown panel is flat so you could flip it and use the textured wrap. The cup holders would still work with the ribs though.
I've now watched almost all of your videos since getting my 2nd Gen last June. Question: Are you current or former military? You seem to have that military bearing common especially with officers.
Thanks Brian! No I never served but my dad was in the military so I've been around it my whole life.
Nice work, I have the Relentless tailgate plate 1 piece and painted it myself, got some magnetic adult beverage holders. How thick is that wrap? Do you think a magnet holder will still work? Thanks in advance, great work there.
About as thick as a credit card.
@@nicholask7347 so would a magnet still hold? Thanks
@@rodz7910 all depends upon the size and strength of the magnet. Wrapped a buddy's car with a stuff, while doing other mechanical work those little trays with the magnets attached would not stick onto the vehicle body anymore. However those magnets that are used to hold firearms still work.
Now that I'm thinking about that, we had swapped out some parts with aluminum so we might have been placing the magnets on an aluminum piece. For cup holders it should still work.
The wrap is pretty thick but I bet a stronger magnet would still work fine through it.
👍👍👍👍👍
Did you cut the steel for the panel of was it bought cut today size for the tailgate?
The panel from Mobtown Offroad is cut to fit the tailgate.
I'm impressed. There's a single down vote on this video after more than 5,800 views. I'm not sure why I notice such things, but it is what it is. I still wonder why that person down voted it.
looks pretty sweet. == how did it hold up?
Still doing great. That vinyl really is stout.
@@Tacomaholic nice!
@@TygerBlueEyes One of my favorite mods for sure
Nice...love the wa it came out. Per chance is that waterproof?
Thanks! Which part are you asking about being waterproof?
@@Tacomaholic The textured cover over the panel. I'm too cheap to buy the panel, and I really like the food grade tailgate inset, but, honestly, dug what you did with the cup/adult beverage holder. I NEED one for my 9 y/o son. The kiddo is a walking Spill factory. 🤪 His name is Logan, but his nickname is Deepwater Horizon
@@garyaaron8425 Oh the textured part is definitely water proof unless it's torn.
@@Tacomaholic Thanks again. If okay, I'm gonna steal the cup holder idea from you. Be safe out there and thank you!
@@garyaaron8425 Absolutely, go for it.
What spray paint did you use
The Rustoleum rust reformer, then flat black enamel. Same stuff I used on my bumpers.
I guess I'm just not getting the cupholder thing. Wouldn't just setting a drink on the tailgate suffice? That's what I've done all this time on my '03.
The cup holders double as places to put smaller things like nuts/bolts/etc that could roll around when working on the truck.
@@Tacomaholic Ok, gotcha!
The one bolt tie down points...
I've been looking for weeks Which are these? THANKS!
Hey buddy! Here's a link to those tie down points: amzn.to/2NrZ6yC
@@Tacomaholic thank you! I ordered a similar set, but they were teeny. I think the Jeep version. Thanks again.
@@aimlessimages831 Sure thing. Those bolt just attach to plastic though so I wouldn't put a ton of strain on them when using as an anchor point.
@@Tacomaholic I just need them to hold down a surfboard or two. 🙌🏽
@@aimlessimages831 Perfect then!
So the mobtown metal sheet is no longer available. Any other companies that have that peice?
Ahh damn. I'm not sure of any other companies who just make the sheet without including other stuff that jacks the price up.
Talk with a metal fabricator. Should not cost too much since it is a basic design.
When I jam on your rock song I picture 3 Brian's all rocking out on instruments! 😂🎸
What's your MPG at btw?
😂 I'm around 14-15 mpg unless it's pure highway then a bit lower actually since the regear.
@@Tacomaholic cheers to not insane gas prices next couple years! 🍺😎👍🇺🇸
Just wondering. How long does it usually take for the “taco sauce only” sticker to ship?
I ship every day. When did you place your order?
@@Tacomaholic I ordered it on the 13th so last Wednesday
@@raginggamer5764 That shipped on Friday the 14th then so should be there very soon. I know the post office seems to be running slower than usual because of covid.
Do you have a tailgate assist?
Not yet.
How much does it weigh?
The steel tailgate panel is pretty heavy compared to the factory one. I'd guess around 15-20 lbs.
Too bad you cant buy it anymore?!?!?!?! Thanks for the video
Should be back in stock soon.
Any reason you did not add heat to this?
Heating is more beneficial to help the vinyl stretch when dealing with curves or bends in whatever you are wrapping.
@@Tacomaholic thanks. I was wondering if I should heat the edges once I wrap under. I want to be able to tuck it like you wanted to do. The warp arrives next week so I’m psyched.
@@USMC_RECON Yeah if you are going to tuck it around the flat panel (like I was going to do) then heating the bend will help ... just be careful not to heat too much.
I would just Dino line it
Looks factory installed, too bad it doesn't come that way
That would be a great factory option.
Should get on rumble and bitchute
second you even used a pic of my truck for one of your videos lol
the Mobtown link is unsafe.
That's because they sold ownership of the company.
Looks great!
